Turn ye unto him from whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted.
Return to the One against whom you have so
blatantly rebelled, O
children of Israel.
And they said unto him, Thus saith
Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of
rebuke, and of
blasphemy: for the
children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.
to tell him, “This is what
Hezekiah says:
Today is a day of distress,
rebuke, and disgrace; for
children have come to the point of birth, but there is no strength to deliver them.
Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed, as Gozan, and
Haran, and Rezeph, and the
children of
Eden which were in Telassar?
Did the gods of the nations destroyed by my fathers
rescue those nations—the gods of Gozan,
Haran, and Rezeph, and of the people of
Eden in Telassar?
The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth.
The living, only the living, can
thank You, as I do
today; fathers will tell their
children about Your faithfulness.
Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest
carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of
children:
So now hear this, O lover of
luxury who sits securely, who says to herself, ‘I am, and there is none besides me. I will never be a widow or know the loss of
children.’
But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of
children, and
widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy
sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments.
These two things will overtake you in a moment, in a single day: loss of
children, and
widowhood. They will come upon you in full measure, in spite of your many
sorceries and the
potency of your spells.
Thy
children shall make
haste; thy destroyers and they that made thee waste shall go forth of thee.
Your builders
hasten back; your destroyers and wreckers depart from you.
The children which thou shalt have, after thou hast lost the other, shall say again in thine ears, The place is too strait for me: give place to me that I may dwell.
Yet the
children of your
bereavement will say in your hearing, ‘This place is too small for us; make room for us to live here.’
Then shalt thou say in thine heart, Who hath
begotten me these, seeing I have lost my
children, and am
desolate, a
captive, and removing to and
fro? and who hath brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; these, where had they been?
Then you will say in your heart, ‘Who has
begotten these for me? I was
bereaved and barren; I was exiled and rejected. So who has reared them? Look, I was left all alone, so where did they come from?’”
But thus saith the LORD, Even the
captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will
contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy
children.
Sing, O barren, thou that
didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry
aloud, thou that
didst not
travail with
child: for more are the
children of the
desolate than the
children of the married wife, saith the LORD.
“
Shout for joy, O barren woman, who bears no
children; break forth in song and cry
aloud, you who have never
travailed; because more are the
children of the
desolate woman than of her who has a husband,” says the LORD.
And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.
Then all your sons will be taught by the LORD, and great will be their prosperity.
Enflaming
yourselves with idols under every green tree,
slaying the
children in the valleys under the clifts of the rocks?
who burn with
lust among the oaks, under every
luxuriant tree, who slaughter your
children in the valleys, under the clefts of the rocks?
As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.
“As for Me, this is My covenant with them,” says the LORD. “My Spirit will not depart from you, and My words that I have put in your mouth will not depart from your mouth or from the mouths of your children and grandchildren, from now on and forevermore,” says the LORD.
Surely the isles shall wait for me, and the ships of
Tarshish first, to bring thy sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, unto the name of the LORD thy God, and to the Holy One of Israel, because he hath
glorified thee.
Surely the islands will wait for Me, with the ships of
Tarshish in the lead, to bring your
children from
afar, with their silver and gold, to the honor of the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, for He has
glorified you.
For he said, Surely they are my people, children that will not lie: so he was their Saviour.
For He said, “They are surely My people, sons who will not be
disloyal.” So He became their
Savior.
There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the
child shall die an hundred years old; but the
sinner being an hundred years old shall be
accursed.
No longer will a
nursing infant live but a few days, or an old man fail to live out his years. For the youth will die at a hundred years, and he who fails to reach a hundred will be considered
accursed.
They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them.
They will not labor in vain or bear
children doomed to
disaster; for they will be a people blessed by the LORD— they and their descendants with them.
Before she
travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a man
child.
“Before she was in labor, she gave birth; before she was in pain, she delivered a boy.
Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as
Zion travailed, she brought forth her
children.
Who has heard of such as this? Who has seen such things? Can a country be born in a day or a nation be delivered in an instant? Yet as soon as
Zion was in labor, she gave birth to her
children.
And they shall bring all your brethren for an offering unto the LORD out of all nations upon horses, and in
chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, saith the LORD, as the
children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the LORD.
And they will bring all your brothers from all the nations as a gift to the LORD on horses and
chariots and wagons, on mules and camels, to My holy mountain Jerusalem,” says the LORD, “just as the Israelites bring an offering in a clean vessel to the house of the LORD.”
Then said I,
Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a
child.
“
Ah, Lord GOD,” I said, “I surely do not know how to speak, for I am only a
child!”
But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a
child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and
whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.
But the LORD told me: “Do not say, ‘I am only a
child.’ For to
everyone I send you, you must go, and all that I command you, you must speak.
Wherefore I will yet
plead with you, saith the LORD, and with your
children’s
children will I
plead.
Therefore, I will
contend with you again, declares the LORD, and I will bring a case against your
children’s
children.
Also the
children of
Noph and Tahapanes have broken the crown of thy head.
The men of
Memphis and Tahpanhes have
shaved the crown of your head.
In vain have I
smitten your
children; they received no correction: your own sword hath
devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.
“I have struck your sons in vain; they accepted no discipline. Your own sword has
devoured your prophets like a
voracious lion.”
Turn, O
backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to
Zion:
“Return, O faithless
children,” declares the LORD, “for I am your master, and I will take you—one from a city and two from a family—and bring you to
Zion.
But I said, How shall I put thee among the
children, and give thee a pleasant land, a goodly
heritage of the hosts of nations? and I said, Thou shalt call me, My father; and shalt not turn away from me.
Then I said, ‘How I long to make you My sons and give you a desirable land, the most beautiful inheritance of all the nations!’ I thought you would call Me ‘Father’ and never turn away from following Me.
A voice was heard upon the high places,
weeping and supplications of the
children of Israel: for they have
perverted their way, and they have forgotten the LORD their God.
A voice is heard on the barren heights, the
children of Israel
weeping and
begging for mercy, because they have
perverted their ways and forgotten the LORD their God.
Return, ye
backsliding children, and I will
heal your backslidings. Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the LORD our God.
“Return, O faithless
children, and I will
heal your
faithlessness.” “Here we are. We come to You, for You are the LORD our God.
For my people is
foolish, they have not known me; they are
sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.
“For My people are fools; they have not known Me. They are
foolish children, without understanding. They are skilled in doing evil, but they know not how to do good.”
For I have heard a voice as of a woman in
travail, and the
anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first
child, the voice of the daughter of
Zion, that bewaileth herself, that spreadeth her hands, saying,
Woe is me now! for my soul is
wearied because of murderers.
For I hear a cry like a woman in labor, a cry of
anguish like one bearing her first
child— the cry of the Daughter of
Zion gasping for breath, stretching out her hands to say, “
Woe is me, for my soul
faints before the murderers!”
How shall I
pardon thee for this? thy
children have
forsaken me, and
sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed
adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots’ houses.
“Why should I
forgive you? Your
children have
forsaken Me and
sworn by gods that are not gods. I satisfied their needs, yet they committed
adultery and assembled at the houses of prostitutes.
O ye
children of Benjamin, gather
yourselves to
flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the
trumpet in Tekoa, and set up a sign of fire in Beth-haccerem: for evil appeareth out of the north, and great destruction.
“Run for cover, O sons of Benjamin;
flee from Jerusalem! Sound the ram’s horn in Tekoa; send up a signal over Beth-haccherem, for
disaster looms from the north, even great destruction.
Therefore I am full of the
fury of the LORD; I am
weary with holding in: I will pour it out upon the
children abroad, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days.
But I am full of the LORD’s wrath; I am
tired of holding it back. “Pour it out on the
children in the street, and on the young men gathered together. For both husband and wife will be captured, the old and the very old alike.
The
children gather wood, and the fathers
kindle the fire, and the women
knead their
dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may
provoke me to anger.
The sons gather wood, the fathers light the fire, and the women
knead the
dough to make cakes for the Queen of Heaven; they pour out drink offerings to other gods to
provoke Me to anger.
For the
children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the LORD: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to
pollute it.
For the people of Judah have done evil in My sight, declares the LORD. They have set up their abominations in the house that bears My Name, and so have
defiled it.
For death is come up into our windows, and is entered into our palaces, to cut off the children from without, and the young men from the streets.
For death has
climbed in through our windows; it has entered our fortresses to cut off the
children from the streets, the young men from the town squares.
Egypt, and Judah, and
Edom, and the
children of
Ammon, and Moab, and all that are in the utmost corners, that dwell in the wilderness: for all these nations are
uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are
uncircumcised in the heart.
Egypt, Judah,
Edom,
Ammon, Moab, and all the inhabitants of the desert who
clip the hair of their temples. For all these nations are
uncircumcised, and the whole house of Israel is
uncircumcised in heart.”
My tabernacle is
spoiled, and all my cords are broken: my
children are gone forth of me, and they are not: there is none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.
My tent is destroyed, and all its ropes are
snapped. My sons have departed from me and are no more. I have no one left to pitch my tent or set up my curtains.
And I will
fan them with a
fan in the gates of the land; I will
bereave them of
children, I will destroy my people, since they return not from their ways.
I will
scatter them with a
winnowing fork at the gates of the land. I will
bereave and destroy My people who have not turned from their ways.
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be said, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
Yet behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when they will no longer say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of Egypt.’
But, The LORD liveth, that brought up the
children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands
whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.
Instead they will say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of the north and all the other lands to which He had banished them.’ For I will return them to their land that I gave to their forefathers.
Whilst their children remember their altars and their groves by the green trees upon the high hills.
Even their children remember their altars and Asherah poles by the green trees and on the high hills.
Thus said the LORD unto me; Go and stand in the gate of the children of the people, whereby the kings of Judah come in, and by the which they go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem;
This is what the LORD said to me: “Go and stand at the gate of the people, through which the kings of Judah go in and out; and stand at all the other gates of Jerusalem.
Therefore deliver up their
children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword; and let their wives be
bereaved of their
children, and be widows; and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in battle.
Therefore, hand their children over to famine; pour out the power of the sword upon them. Let their wives become childless and widowed; let their husbands be slain by disease, their young men struck down by the sword in battle.
They have built also the high places of
Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto
Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind:
They have built high places to
Baal on which to burn their
children in the fire as offerings to
Baal—something I never commanded or mentioned, nor did it even enter My mind.
Cursed be the man who brought
tidings to my father, saying, A man
child is born unto thee; making him very
glad.
Cursed be the man who brought my father the news, saying, “A son is born to you,” bringing him great joy.
Thus saith the LORD, Write ye this man
childless, a man that shall not
prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall
prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.
This is what the LORD says: “
Enroll this man as
childless, a man who will not
prosper in his lifetime. None of his descendants will
prosper to sit on the throne of David or to rule again in Judah.”
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that they shall no more say, The LORD liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
So behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when they will no longer say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of Egypt.’
Ask ye now, and see whether a man
doth travail with
child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in
travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?
Ask now, and see: Can a male give birth? Why then do I see every man with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labor and every face turned pale?
Their
children also shall be as
aforetime, and their congregation shall be established before me, and I will
punish all that
oppress them.
Their
children will be as in days of old, and their congregation will be established before Me; and I will
punish all their oppressors.
Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the coasts of the earth, and with them the blind and the
lame, the woman with
child and her that travaileth with
child together: a great company shall return thither.
Behold, I will bring them from the land of the north and gather them from the
farthest parts of the earth, including the blind and the
lame,
expectant mothers and women in labor. They will return as a great assembly!
Thus saith the LORD; A voice was heard in
Ramah,
lamentation, and bitter
weeping;
Rahel weeping for her
children refused to be comforted for her
children, because they were not.
This is what the LORD says: “A voice is heard in
Ramah,
mourning and great
weeping,
Rachel weeping for her
children, and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.”
Thus saith the LORD;
Refrain thy voice from
weeping, and thine eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the LORD; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy.
This is what the LORD says: “Keep your voice from
weeping and your eyes from tears, for the reward for your work will come, declares the LORD. Then your
children will return from the land of the enemy.
And there is hope in thine end, saith the LORD, that thy children shall come again to their own border.
So there is hope for your future, declares the LORD, and your children will return to their own land.
Is Ephraim my
dear son? is he a pleasant
child? for since I spake against him, I do earnestly remember him still: therefore my
bowels are troubled for him; I will surely have mercy upon him, saith the LORD.
Is not Ephraim a precious son to Me, a delightful
child? Though I often speak against him, I still remember him. Therefore My heart yearns for him; I have great
compassion for him,” declares the LORD.
In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a
sour grape, and the
children’s teeth are set on edge.
“In those days, it will no longer be said: ‘The fathers have eaten
sour grapes, and the teeth of the
children are set on edge.’
Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the
bosom of their
children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts, is his name,
You show loving devotion to thousands but lay the iniquity of the fathers into the laps of their children after them, O great and mighty God whose name is the LORD of Hosts,
For the
children of Israel and the
children of Judah have only done evil before me from their youth: for the
children of Israel have only
provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, saith the LORD.
For the
children of Israel and of Judah have done nothing but evil in My sight from their youth; indeed, they have done nothing but
provoke Me to anger by the work of their hands, declares the LORD.
Because of all the evil of the
children of Israel and of the
children of Judah, which they have done to
provoke me to anger, they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
because of all the evil the
children of Israel and of Judah have done to
provoke Me to anger—they, their kings, their officials, their priests and prophets, the men of Judah, and the residents of Jerusalem.
And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them:
I will give them one heart and one way, so that they will always fear Me for their own good and for the good of their children after them.
So they shall bring out all thy wives and thy children to the Chaldeans: and thou shalt not escape out of their hand, but shalt be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon: and thou shalt cause this city to be burned with fire.
All your wives and
children will be brought out to the Chaldeans. And you
yourself will not escape their
grasp, for you will be seized by the king of Babylon, and this city will be burned down.”
Now when all the captains of the forces which were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed unto him men, and women, and
children, and of the poor of the land, of them that were not carried away
captive to Babylon;
When all the commanders and men of the armies in the field heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah son of
Ahikam over the land and that he had put him in charge of the men, women, and
children who were the poorest of the land and had not been exiled to Babylon,
Then took Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, all the
remnant of the people whom he had recovered from
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from
Mizpah, after that he had slain Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam, even mighty men of war, and the women, and the
children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought again from
Gibeon:
Then Johanan son of Kareah and all the commanders of the armies with him took the whole
remnant of the people from
Mizpah whom he had recovered from
Ishmael son of Nethaniah after
Ishmael had killed Gedaliah son of
Ahikam: the soldiers, women,
children, and court officials he had brought back from
Gibeon.
Even men, and women, and
children, and the king’s daughters, and every person that Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the prophet, and
Baruch the son of Neriah.
the men, the women, the
children, the king’s daughters, and
everyone whom Nebuzaradan captain of the guard had allowed to remain with Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, as well as Jeremiah the prophet and
Baruch son of Neriah.
Therefore now thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; Wherefore commit ye this great evil against your souls, to cut off from you man and woman,
child and
suckling, out of Judah, to leave you none to remain;
So now, this is what the LORD God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Why are you doing such great
harm to
yourselves by cutting off from Judah man and woman,
child and infant, leaving
yourselves without a
remnant?
At the noise of the stamping of the
hoofs of his strong horses, at the
rushing of his
chariots, and at the
rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to their
children for feebleness of hands;
And afterward I will bring again the captivity of the
children of
Ammon, saith the LORD.
Yet afterward I will restore the
Ammonites from captivity,” declares the LORD.
Leave thy fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let thy widows trust in me.
Abandon your orphans; I will preserve their lives. Let your widows trust in Me.”
In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the
children of Israel shall come, they and the
children of Judah together, going and
weeping: they shall go, and seek the LORD their God.
“In those days and at that time, declares the LORD, the
children of Israel and the
children of Judah will come together,
weeping as they come, and will seek the LORD their God.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The
children of Israel and the
children of Judah were
oppressed together: and all that took them
captives held them fast; they refused to let them go.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “The sons of Israel are
oppressed, and the sons of Judah as well. All their captors hold them fast, refusing to release them.
Her
adversaries are the chief, her enemies
prosper; for the LORD hath
afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions: her
children are gone into captivity before the enemy.
Her foes have become her masters; her enemies are at ease. For the LORD has brought her grief because of her many transgressions. Her
children have gone away as
captives before the enemy.
For these things I
weep; mine eye, mine eye runneth down with water, because the comforter that should
relieve my soul is far from me: my
children are
desolate, because the enemy prevailed.
For these things I
weep; my eyes flow with tears. For there is no one nearby to comfort me, no one to revive my soul. My
children are destitute because the enemy has prevailed.
Mine eyes do fail with tears, my
bowels are troubled, my liver is poured upon the earth, for the destruction of the daughter of my people; because the
children and the sucklings
swoon in the streets of the city.
My eyes fail from
weeping; I am
churning within. My heart is poured out in grief over the destruction of the daughter of my people, because
children and infants
faint in the streets of the city.
Arise, cry out in the night: in the beginning of the watches pour out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young
children, that
faint for hunger in the top of every street.
Arise, cry out in the night from the first watch of the night. Pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to Him for the lives of your
children who are
fainting from hunger on the corner of every street.
Behold, O LORD, and consider to whom thou hast done this. Shall the women eat their fruit, and children of a span long? shall the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord?
Look, O LORD, and consider: Whom have You ever treated like this? Should women eat their offspring, the infants they have
nurtured? Should priests and prophets be killed in the sanctuary of the Lord?
The tongue of the
sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for
thirst: the young
children ask bread, and no man breaketh it unto them.
The
nursing infant’s tongue clings in
thirst to the roof of his mouth. Little
children beg for bread, but no one gives them any.
The hands of the
pitiful women have
sodden their own
children: they were their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my people.
The hands of
compassionate women have
cooked their own
children, who became their food in the destruction of the daughter of my people.
They took the young men to
grind, and the
children fell under the wood.
Young men
toil at millstones; boys
stagger under loads of wood.
And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the
children of Israel, to a
rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have
transgressed against me, even unto this very day.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “I am sending you to the Israelites, to a
rebellious nation that has rebelled against Me. To this very day they and their fathers have rebelled against Me.
For they are
impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD.
They are
obstinate and
stubborn children. I am sending you to them, and you are to say to them, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says.’
And go, get thee to them of the captivity, unto the
children of thy people, and speak unto them, and tell them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; whether they will hear, or whether they will
forbear.
Go to your people, the exiles; speak to them and tell them, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says,’ whether they
listen or refuse to
listen.”
And the LORD said, Even thus shall the
children of Israel eat their
defiled bread among the Gentiles,
whither I will drive them.
Then the LORD said, “This is how the Israelites will eat their
defiled bread among the nations to which I will
banish them.”
So will I send upon you famine and evil beasts, and they shall
bereave thee; and
pestilence and blood shall pass through thee; and I will bring the sword upon thee. I the LORD have spoken it.
I will send famine and wild beasts against you, and they will leave you
childless. Plague and
bloodshed will
sweep through you, and I will bring a sword against you. I, the LORD, have spoken.”
And I will lay the dead carcases of the
children of Israel before their idols; and I will
scatter your bones round about your altars.
I will lay the corpses of the Israelites before their idols and
scatter your bones around your altars.
Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little
children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house.
Slaughter the old men, the young men and maidens, the women and
children; but do not go near
anyone who has the mark. Now begin at My sanctuary.” So they began with the elders who were before the temple.
If I cause
noisome beasts to pass through the land, and they
spoil it, so that it be
desolate, that no man may pass through because of the beasts:
Or if I send wild beasts through the land to leave it
childless and
desolate, with no man passing through it for fear of the beasts,
That thou hast slain my children, and delivered them to cause them to pass through the fire for them?
You slaughtered My children and delivered them up through the fire to idols.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thy
filthiness was poured out, and thy nakedness discovered through thy whoredoms with thy lovers, and with all the idols of thy abominations, and by the blood of thy
children, which thou
didst give unto them;
This is what the Lord GOD says: Because you poured out your wealth and exposed your nakedness in your
promiscuity with your lovers and with all your
detestable idols, and because of the blood of your
children which you gave to them,
Thou art thy mother’s daughter, that lotheth her husband and her
children; and thou art the sister of thy sisters, which
lothed their husbands and their
children: your mother was an Hittite, and your father an Amorite.
You are the daughter of your mother, who
despised her husband and
children. You are the sister of your sisters, who
despised their husbands and
children. Your mother was a Hittite and your father an Amorite.
What mean ye, that ye use this
proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten
sour grapes, and the
children’s teeth are set on edge?
“What do you people mean by
quoting this
proverb about the land of Israel: ‘The fathers have eaten
sour grapes, and the teeth of the
children are set on edge’?
But I said unto their
children in the wilderness, Walk ye not in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their judgments, nor
defile yourselves with their idols:
In the wilderness I said to their
children: ‘Do not walk in the statutes of your fathers or keep their ordinances or
defile yourselves with their idols.
Notwithstanding the
children rebelled against me: they walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; they
polluted my sabbaths: then I said, I would pour out my
fury upon them, to
accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness.
But the
children rebelled against Me. They did not walk in My statutes or carefully observe My ordinances—though the man who does these things will live by them—and they
profaned My Sabbaths. So I resolved to pour out My wrath upon them and
vent My anger against them in the wilderness.
That they have committed
adultery, and blood is in their hands, and with their idols have they committed
adultery, and have also caused their sons, whom they bare unto me, to pass for them through the fire, to
devour them.
For they have committed
adultery, and blood is on their hands. They have committed
adultery with their idols. They have even sacrificed their
children, whom they bore to Me, in the fire as food for their idols.
For when they had slain their
children to their idols, then they came the same day into my sanctuary to
profane it; and, lo, thus have they done in the midst of mine house.
On the very day they slaughtered their
children for their idols, they entered My sanctuary to
profane it.
Yes, they did this inside My house.
