While the earth remaineth,
seedtime and harvest, and
cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
As long as the earth endures,
seedtime and harvest,
cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night shall never cease.”
I will pass through all thy flock to day, removing from thence all the
speckled and
spotted cattle, and all the brown cattle among the sheep, and the
spotted and
speckled among the goats: and of such shall be my
hire.
Let me go through all your flocks
today and remove from them every
speckled or
spotted sheep, every dark-
colored lamb, and every
spotted or
speckled goat. These will be my wages.
So shall my righteousness answer for me in time to come, when it shall come for my
hire before thy face: every one that is not
speckled and
spotted among the goats, and brown among the sheep, that shall be counted
stolen with me.
So my
honesty will
testify for me when you come to check on my wages in the future. If I have any goats that are not
speckled or
spotted, or any lambs that are not dark-
colored, they will be considered
stolen.”
And he removed that day the he goats that were
ringstraked and
spotted, and all the she goats that were
speckled and
spotted, and every one that had some white in it, and all the brown among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons.
That very day
Laban removed all the
streaked or
spotted male goats and every
speckled or
spotted female goat—every one that had any white on it—and every dark-
colored lamb, and he placed them under the care of his sons.
And Jacob did separate the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the
ringstraked, and all the brown in the flock of
Laban; and he put his own flocks by themselves, and put them not unto
Laban’s cattle.
Jacob set apart the young, but made the rest face the
streaked dark-
colored sheep in
Laban’s flocks. Then he set his own stock apart and did not put them with
Laban’s animals.
Thirty
milch camels with their
colts, forty
kine, and ten bulls, twenty she
asses, and ten foals.
30 milk camels with their young, 40 cows, 10 bulls, 20 female
donkeys, and 10 male
donkeys.
Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours.
Now Israel loved Joseph more than his other sons, because Joseph had been born to him in his old age; so he made him a
robe of many
colors.
And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colours that was on him;
So when Joseph came to his brothers, they
stripped him of his
robe—the
robe of many
colors he was wearing—
And they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father; and said, This have we found: know now whether it be thy son’s coat or no.
They sent the
robe of many
colors to their father and said, “We found this. Examine it to see whether it is your son’s
robe or not.”
And Judah sent the
kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his
pledge from the woman’s hand: but he found her not.
Now when Judah sent his friend Hirah the Adullamite with the young goat to collect the items he had left with the woman, he could not find her.
And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.
Under the authority of Pharaoh, let them collect all the excess food from these good years, that they may come and lay up the grain to be preserved as food in the cities.
And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same.
During those seven years, Joseph collected all the excess food in the land of Egypt and stored it in the cities. In every city he laid up the food from the fields around it.
And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of
Canaan, for the corn which they bought: and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh’s house.
Joseph
collected all the money to be found in the land of Egypt and the land of
Canaan in exchange for the grain they were
buying, and he brought it into Pharaoh’s palace.
Binding his
foal unto the vine, and his
ass’s
colt unto the choice vine; he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes:
He
ties his
donkey to the vine, his
colt to the choicest branch. He washes his garments in wine, his robes in the blood of grapes.
If thou at all take thy neighbour’s
raiment to
pledge, thou shalt deliver it unto him by that the sun goeth down:
And there shall be an hole in the top of it, in the midst thereof: it shall have a binding of
woven work round about the hole of it, as it were the hole of an
habergeon, that it be not rent.
with an opening at its top in the center. Around the opening shall be a
woven collar with an opening like that of a garment, so that it will not
tear.
And there was an hole in the midst of the
robe, as the hole of an
habergeon, with a band round about the hole, that it should not
rend.
with an opening in the center of the
robe like that of a garment, with a
collar around the opening so that it would not
tear.
And the priest shall look on the plague, after that it is washed: and, behold, if the plague have not changed his
colour, and the plague be not spread; it is unclean; thou shalt burn it in the fire; it is
fret inward, whether it be bare within or without.
After it has been washed, the priest is to reexamine it, and if the
mildewed article has not changed in appearance, it is unclean. Even though the
mildew has not spread, you must burn it, whether the
rot is on the front or back.
Thou shalt even take five shekels
apiece by the
poll, after the
shekel of the sanctuary shalt thou take them: (the
shekel is twenty gerahs:)
you are to
collect five shekels for each one, according to the sanctuary
shekel of twenty gerahs.
And Moses took the
redemption money of them that were over and above them that were redeemed by the Levites:
So Moses
collected the
redemption money from those in excess of the number redeemed by the Levites.
Of the
firstborn of the children of Israel took he the money; a thousand three hundred and
threescore and five shekels, after the
shekel of the sanctuary:
He
collected the money from the
firstborn of the Israelites: 1,365 shekels, according to the sanctuary
shekel.
Now the
manna resembled
coriander seed, and its appearance was like that of gum resin.
And this is the manner of the release: Every
creditor that lendeth ought unto his neighbour shall release it; he shall not exact it of his neighbour, or of his brother; because it is called the LORD’S release.
This is the manner of remission: Every
creditor shall
cancel what he has
loaned to his
neighbor. He is not to
collect anything from his
neighbor or brother, because the LORD’s time of release has been proclaimed.
Of a foreigner thou mayest exact it again: but that which is thine with thy brother thine hand shall release;
You may
collect something from a foreigner, but you must
forgive whatever your brother owes you.
When thou
dost lend thy brother any thing, thou shalt not go into his house to
fetch his
pledge.
When you
lend anything to your
neighbor, do not enter his house to
collect security.
And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when ye hear the sound of the
trumpet, all the people shall
shout with a great
shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall
ascend up every man straight before him.
And when there is a long blast of the ram’s horn and you hear its sound, have all the people give a mighty
shout. Then the wall of the city will
collapse and all your people will charge straight into the city.”
So the people
shouted when the priests
blew with the
trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the
trumpet, and the people
shouted with a great
shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.
So when the rams’ horns sounded, the people
shouted. When they heard the blast of the horn, the people gave a great
shout, and the wall
collapsed. Then all the people charged straight into the city and captured it.
At her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay down: at her feet he bowed, he fell: where he bowed, there he fell down dead.
And when
Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a
cake of barley bread
tumbled into the host of
Midian, and came unto a tent, and
smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along.
And as
Gideon arrived, a man was telling his friend about a dream. “Behold, I had a dream,” he said, “and I saw a
loaf of barley bread come
tumbling into the Midianite camp. It struck the tent so hard that the tent overturned and
collapsed.”
And the weight of the golden earrings that he requested was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold; beside ornaments, and
collars, and purple
raiment that was on the kings of
Midian, and beside the chains that were about their camels’ necks.
The weight of the gold earrings he had requested was 1,700 shekels, in addition to the
crescent ornaments, the pendants, the purple garments of the kings of
Midian, and the chains from the necks of their camels.
And he had thirty sons that
rode on thirty
ass colts, and they had thirty cities, which are called Havoth-
jair unto this day, which are in the land of
Gilead.
He had thirty sons who
rode on thirty
donkeys. And they had thirty towns in the land of
Gilead, which to this day are called Havvoth-
jair.
And he had forty sons and thirty nephews, that
rode on
threescore and ten
ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.
He had forty sons and thirty grandsons, who
rode on seventy
donkeys. And he judged Israel eight years.
Then came the woman in the
dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man’s house where her lord was, till it was light.
Early that morning, the woman went back to the house where her master was staying,
collapsed at the
doorway, and lay there until it was light.
And her lord rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go his way: and, behold, the woman his
concubine was fallen down at the door of the house, and her hands were upon the
threshold.
In the morning, when her master got up and opened the doors of the house to go out on his journey, there was his
concubine,
collapsed in the
doorway of the house, with her hands on the
threshold.
But when the flame began to arise up out of the city with a
pillar of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them, and, behold, the flame of the city ascended up to heaven.
But when the column of smoke began to go up from the city, the Benjamites looked behind them and saw the whole city going up in smoke.
And his daughter in law,
Phinehas’ wife, was with child, near to be delivered: and when she heard the
tidings that the ark of God was taken, and that her father in law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and
travailed; for her pains came upon her.
Now
Eli’s daughter-in-law, the wife of
Phinehas, was
pregnant and about to give birth. When she heard the news of the capture of God’s ark and the deaths of her father-in-law and her husband, she
collapsed and gave birth, for her labor pains overtook her.
And he stript off his clothes also, and
prophesied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, Is Saul also among the prophets?
Then Saul
stripped off his robes and also
prophesied before Samuel. And he
collapsed and lay naked all that day and night. That is why it is said, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”
And she had a garment of
divers colours upon her: for with such robes were the king’s daughters that were virgins
apparelled. Then his servant brought her out, and
bolted the door after her.
So Amnon’s
attendant threw her out and
bolted the door behind her. Now Tamar was wearing a
robe of many
colors, because this is what the king’s virgin daughters
wore.
And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent her garment of
divers colours that was on her, and laid her hand on her head, and went on crying.
And Tamar put ashes on her head and
tore her
robe. And putting her hand on her head, she went away crying bitterly.
And he made a
porch of pillars; the length thereof was fifty cubits, and the breadth thereof thirty cubits: and the
porch was before them: and the other pillars and the thick beam were before them.
Solomon made his
colonnade fifty cubits long and thirty cubits wide, with a
portico in front of it and a
canopy with pillars in front of the
portico.
And Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the dedicated things that is brought into the house of the LORD, even the money of every one that passeth the account, the money that every man is set at, and all the money that cometh into any man’s heart to bring into the house of the LORD,
Then
Joash said to the priests, “
Collect all the money brought as sacred gifts into the house of the LORD—the census money, the money from vows, and the money brought
voluntarily into the house of the LORD.
Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the silver which is brought into the house of the LORD, which the keepers of the door have gathered of the people:
“Go up to Hilkiah the high priest and have him count the money that has been brought into the house of the LORD, which the doorkeepers have collected from the people.
So Hilkiah the priest, and
Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went unto Huldah the
prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the
wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the
college;) and they communed with her.
So Hilkiah the priest,
Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went and spoke to Huldah the
prophetess, the wife of Shallum son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, the keeper of the
wardrobe. She lived in Jerusalem, in the Second District.
Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for things to be made of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and the brass for things of brass, the iron for things of iron, and wood for things of wood;
onyx stones, and stones to be set,
glistering stones, and of
divers colours, and all manner of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance.
Now with all my ability I have made provision for the house of my God—gold for the gold articles, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron, and wood for the wood, as well as
onyx for the settings,
turquoise, stones of various
colors, all kinds of precious stones, and slabs of marble—all in abundance.
And he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, Go out unto the cities of Judah, and gather of all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and see that ye
hasten the matter.
Howbeit the Levites
hastened it not.
So he gathered the priests and Levites and said, “Go out to the cities of Judah and
collect the money due annually from all Israel, to repair the house of your God. Do it quickly.” The Levites, however, did not make
haste.
And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him, Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness?
So the king called Jehoiada the high priest and said, “Why have you not required the Levites to bring from Judah and Jerusalem the tax imposed by Moses the servant of the LORD and by the assembly of Israel for the Tent of the Testimony?”
And they made a
proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in to the LORD the
collection that Moses the servant of God laid upon Israel in the wilderness.
And a
proclamation was issued in Judah and Jerusalem that they were to bring to the LORD the tax imposed by Moses the servant of God on Israel in the wilderness.
And when they came to Hilkiah the high priest, they delivered the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites that kept the doors had gathered of the hand of
Manasseh and Ephraim, and of all the
remnant of Israel, and of all Judah and Benjamin; and they returned to Jerusalem.
So they went to Hilkiah the high priest and gave him the money that had been brought into the house of God, which the Levites at the doors had
collected from the people of
Manasseh and Ephraim, from all the
remnant of Israel, Judah, and Benjamin, and from the people of Jerusalem.
And Hilkiah, and they that the king had appointed, went to Huldah the
prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the
wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the
college:) and they spake to her to that effect.
So Hilkiah and those the king had designated went and spoke to Huldah the
prophetess, the wife of Shallum son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, the keeper of the
wardrobe. She lived in Jerusalem, in the Second District.
But the gate of the fountain repaired Shallun the son of
Col-hozeh, the ruler of part of
Mizpah; he built it, and covered it, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof, and the wall of the
pool of
Siloah by the king’s garden, and unto the stairs that go down from the city of David.
The Fountain Gate was repaired by Shallun son of
Col-hozeh, ruler of the district of
Mizpah. He rebuilt it, roofed it, and
installed its doors, bolts, and bars. He also repaired the wall of the
Pool of Shelah near the king’s garden, as far as the stairs that descend from the City of David.
And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take
tithes: and the Levites shall bring up the
tithe of the
tithes unto the house of our God, to the chambers, into the
treasure house.
A priest of Aaron’s line is to
accompany the Levites when they
collect the tenth, and the Levites are to bring a tenth of these
tithes to the storerooms of the treasury in the house of our God.
And Maaseiah the son of
Baruch, the son of
Col-hozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of
Zechariah, the son of Shiloni.
and Maaseiah son of
Baruch, the son of
Col-hozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of
Zechariah, a
descendant of Shelah.
And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and
smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It
collapsed on the young people and they are dead, and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
For vain man would be wise, though man be born like a wild
ass’s
colt.
But a witless man can no more become wise than the
colt of a wild
donkey can be born a man!
Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh collops of fat on his flanks.
Though his face is covered with fat and his waistline bulges with flesh,
They cause the naked to
lodge without clothing, that they have no covering in the
cold.
Without clothing, they
spend the night naked; they have no covering against the
cold.
By the great force of my disease is my garment changed: it bindeth me about as the
collar of my coat.
With great force He grasps my garment; He seizes me by the
collar of my
tunic.
Out of the south cometh the
whirlwind: and
cold out of the north.
The
tempest comes from its chamber, and the
cold from the driving north winds.
They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.
They
collapse and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.
She shall be brought unto the king in
raiment of
needlework: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee.
In colorful garments she is led to the king; her virgin companions are brought before you.
It is like the precious
ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the
beard, even Aaron’s
beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;
It is like fine oil on the head, running down on the
beard, running down Aaron’s
beard over the
collar of his robes.
He casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold?
I have decked my bed with coverings of
tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.
I have decked my bed with coverings, with colored linen from Egypt.
The
sluggard will not
plow by reason of the
cold; therefore shall he
beg in harvest, and have nothing.
The slacker does not
plow in season; at harvest time he looks, but nothing is there.
Take his garment that is
surety for a stranger: and take a
pledge of him for a strange woman.
Take the garment of the one who posts security for a stranger; get
collateral if it is for a foreigner.
Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his
colour in the cup, when it moveth itself
aright.
Do not
gaze at wine while it is red, when it sparkles in the cup and goes down smoothly.
As the
cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful
messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
Like the
cold of snow in the time of harvest is a
trustworthy messenger to those who send him; he refreshes the soul of his masters.
As he that taketh away a garment in
cold weather, and as
vinegar upon
nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.
Like one who removes a garment on a
cold day or
vinegar poured on a wound is one who sings songs to a heavy heart.
As
cold waters to a
thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
Like
cold water to a
weary soul is good news from a distant land.
Take his garment that is
surety for a stranger, and take a
pledge of him for a strange woman.
Take the garment of him who posts security for a stranger; get
collateral if it is for a foreigner.
Who is this that cometh out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke,
perfumed with
myrrh and
frankincense, with all powders of the merchant?
Who is this coming up from the wilderness like a
column of smoke,
scented with
myrrh and
frankincense from all the spices of the merchant?
And he shall set up an
ensign for the nations, and shall
assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the
dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.
He will raise a
banner for the nations and gather the exiles of Israel; He will
collect the scattered of Judah from the four corners of the earth.
Ye have seen also the breaches of the city of David, that they are many: and ye gathered together the waters of the lower
pool.
You saw that there were many breaches in the walls of the City of David. You
collected water from the lower
pool.
Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant.
this iniquity of yours is like a breach about to fail, a
bulge in a high wall, whose
collapse will come suddenly— in an instant!
O thou
afflicted,
tossed with
tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair
colors, and lay thy foundations with sapphires.
Were they
ashamed when they had committed
abomination?
nay, they were not at all
ashamed, neither could they
blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.
Are they
ashamed of the
abomination they have committed? No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to
blush. So they will fall among the fallen; when I
punish them, they will
collapse,” says the LORD.
Were they
ashamed when they had committed
abomination?
nay, they were not at all
ashamed, neither could they
blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their
visitation they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.
Are they
ashamed of the
abomination they have committed? No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to
blush. So they will fall among the fallen; when I
punish them, they will
collapse, says the LORD.
Will a man leave the snow of
Lebanon which cometh from the rock of the field? or shall the
cold flowing waters that come from another place be
forsaken?
Does the snow of
Lebanon ever leave its rocky slopes? Or do its cool waters flowing from a distance ever run dry?
And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the
penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the
hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the
hearth.
And as soon as Jehudi had read three or four
columns,
Jehoiakim would cut them off with a
scribe’s knife and throw them into the
firepot, until the entire
scroll had been consumed by the fire.
And I looked, and, behold, a
whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the
colour of
amber, out of the midst of the fire.
I looked and saw a
whirlwind coming from the north, a great cloud with fire
flashing back and forth and brilliant light all around it. In the center of the fire was a
gleam like
amber,
And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a
calf’s foot: and they
sparkled like the
colour of
burnished brass.
Their legs were straight, and the soles of their feet were like the
hooves of a
calf,
gleaming like polished bronze.
The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto the
colour of a
beryl: and they four had one likeness: and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheel.
And the likeness of the
firmament upon the heads of the living creature was as the
colour of the terrible crystal, stretched forth over their heads above.
Spread out above the heads of the living creatures was the likeness of an
awesome expanse,
gleaming like crystal.
And I saw as the
colour of
amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even
downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about.
From what seemed to be His
waist up, I saw a
gleam like
amber, with what looked like fire within it all around. And from what seemed to be His
waist down, I saw what looked like fire; and brilliant light surrounded Him.
Then I
beheld, and lo a likeness as the appearance of fire: from the appearance of his loins even
downward, fire; and from his loins even upward, as the appearance of brightness, as the
colour of
amber.
Then I looked and saw a figure like that of a man. From His
waist down His appearance was like fire, and from His
waist up He was as bright as the
gleam of
amber.
And when I looked, behold the four wheels by the cherubims, one wheel by one
cherub, and another wheel by another
cherub: and the appearance of the wheels was as the
colour of a
beryl stone.
And of thy garments thou
didst take, and deckedst thy high places with
divers colours, and playedst the
harlot thereupon: the like things shall not come, neither shall it be so.
You took some of your garments and made
colorful high places for
yourself, and on them you
prostituted yourself. Such things should not have happened; never should they have occurred!
And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; A great eagle with great wings, longwinged, full of feathers, which had
divers colours, came unto
Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the
cedar:
and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘A great eagle with great wings and long pinions, full of feathers of many
colors, came to
Lebanon and took away the top of the
cedar.
Thus saith the LORD; They also that
uphold Egypt shall fall; and the pride of her power shall come down: from the tower of
Syene shall they fall in it by the sword, saith the Lord GOD.
For this is what the LORD says: The allies of Egypt will fall, and her proud strength will
collapse. From
Migdol to
Syene they will fall by the sword within her, declares the Lord GOD.
So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all
creeping things that
creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall
shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.
The fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the beasts of the field, every creature that crawls upon the ground, and all mankind on the face of the earth will
tremble at My presence. The mountains will be thrown down, the cliffs will
collapse, and every wall will fall to the ground.
The length of the
porch was twenty cubits, and the breadth eleven cubits; and he brought me by the steps whereby they went up to it: and there were pillars by the posts, one on this side, and another on that side.
The
portico was twenty cubits wide and twelve cubits deep, and ten steps led up to it. There were
columns by the side pillars, one on each side.
His body also was like the
beryl, and his face as the appearance of
lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in
colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude.
His body was like
beryl, his face like the brilliance of
lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the
gleam of polished bronze, and his voice like the sound of a multitude.
Then shall stand up in his estate a raiser of taxes in the glory of the kingdom: but within few days he shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle.
In his place one will arise who will send out a tax
collector for the glory of the kingdom; but within a few days he will be destroyed, though not in anger or in battle.
And I will
shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.
I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and columns of smoke.
And all the
graven images thereof shall be beaten to pieces, and all the
hires thereof shall be burned with the fire, and all the idols thereof will I lay
desolate: for she gathered it of the
hire of an
harlot, and they shall return to the
hire of an
harlot.
All her carved images will be
smashed to pieces; all her wages will be burned in the fire, and I will destroy all her idols. Since she
collected the wages of a
prostitute, they will be used again on a
prostitute.
I will surely
assemble, O Jacob, all of thee; I will surely gather the
remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of
Bozrah, as the flock in the midst of their fold: they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men.
I will surely gather all of you, O Jacob; I will
collect the
remnant of Israel. I will bring them together like sheep in a pen, like a flock in the midst of its pasture— a
noisy throng.
The gates of the rivers shall be opened, and the palace shall be dissolved.
The river gates are thrown open and the palace collapses.
Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the
cold day, but when the sun ariseth they
flee away, and their place is not known where they are.
Your guards are like the
swarming locust, and your
scribes like clouds of locusts that settle on the walls on a
cold day. When the sun rises, they fly away, and no one knows where.
Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine, he is a proud man, neither keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as
hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all people:
and wealth indeed betrays him. He is an
arrogant man never at rest. He enlarges his
appetite like
Sheol, and like Death, he is never satisfied. He gathers all the nations to himself and
collects all the peoples as his own.
