fornication and lived
deliciously with her, shall
bewail her, and
lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,
Then the kings of the earth who committed sexual immorality and lived in
luxury with her will
weep and
wail at the sight of the smoke rising from the fire that
consumes her.
And
cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!

consumed them.

He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is
filthy, let him be
filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
Let the unrighteous
continue to be unrighteous, and the
vile continue to be
vile; let the righteous
continue to practice righteousness, and the holy
continue to be holy.”

vestments wherein they minister;

And if it be found that the building of the house of the Lord at Jerusalem hath been done with the
consent of king Cyrus, and if our lord the king be so minded, let him
signify unto us thereof.
In the first year of the reign of Cyrus king Cyrus commanded that the house of the Lord at Jerusalem should be built again, where they do sacrifice with continual fire:
And also corn, salt, wine, and oil, and that
continually every year without further question, according as the priests that be in Jerusalem shall

confounded and
ashamed before thy face;

confession,
weeping, and lying flat upon the ground before the temple, there gathered unto him from Jerusalem a very great multitude of men and women and children: for there was great
weeping among the multitude.
And now by
confessing give glory unto the Lord God of our fathers,
That thou bring them to
confusion, and their mother to a
spoil, that there may be no offspring of them.

mortal clothing, and put on the
immortal, and have
confessed the name of God: now are they crowned, and receive palms.

Consider with
thyself; as the rain is more than the drops, and as the fire is greater than the smoke; but the drops and the smoke remain behind: so the quantity which is past did more exceed.
There shall be a
confusion also in many places, and the fire shall be
oft sent out again, and the wild beasts shall change their places, and
menstruous women shall bring forth monsters:
Consider thou therefore also, how that ye are less of
stature than those that were before you.
Then did I consider these things, and they all were made through me alone, and through none other: by me also they shall be ended, and by none other.
Why hast thou not considered in thy mind this thing that is to come, rather than that which is present?

inherit therein.
And being judge, if he should not
forgive them that are cured with his word, and put out the multitude of
contentions,
Whose service is
conversant in wind and fire; whose word is true, and sayings
constant; whose commandment is strong, and
ordinance fearful;
For in this, O Lord, thy righteousness and thy goodness shall be declared, if thou be
merciful unto them which have not the
confidence of good works.
And therefore ask thou no more questions concerning the multitude of them that perish.

considered the world, and, behold, there was

lamentation for
Sion.
And I
beheld, and out of her feathers there grew other
contrary feathers; and they became little feathers and small.
And I numbered her contrary feathers, and, behold, there were eight of them.
Then saw I also that two little feathers divided themselves from the six, and remained under the head that was upon the right side: for the four continued in their place.
Then I head a voice, which said unto me, Look before thee, and consider the thing that thou seest.
For as I
conceive in mine understanding,
woe unto them that shall be left in those days and much more
woe unto them that are not left behind!
I will hold my tongue no more as touching their wickedness, which they
profanely commit, neither will I suffer them in those things, in which they wickedly exercise themselves: behold, the innocent and righteous blood crieth unto me, and the souls of the just
complain continually.

mourn: for their seeds shall fail through the blasting and

consumed the foundations of the earth, and the sinners, like the straw that is
kindled.

kindled, and shall not be put out, till it

victuals shall be so good

habitation of the most High was
consecrated and built for all ages.
Let not the wages of any man, which hath wrought for thee,
tarry with thee, but give him it out of hand: for if thou serve God, he will also repay thee: be
circumspect my son, in all things thou doest, and be wise in all thy
conversation.
Then
Anna ran forth, and fell upon the neck of her son, and said unto him, Seeing I have seen thee, my son, from henceforth I am

confessed the great and wonderful works of God, and how the angel of the Lord had appeared unto them.
Confess him before the Gentiles, ye children of Israel: for he hath scattered us among them.
If ye turn to him with your whole heart, and with your whole mind, and deal uprightly before him, then will he turn unto you, and will not hide his face from you. Therefore see what he will do with you, and
confess him with your whole mouth, and praise the Lord of might, and
extol the
everlasting King. In the land of my captivity do I praise him, and declare his might and majesty to a sinful nation. O ye sinners, turn and do justice before him: who can tell if he will accept you, and have mercy on you?
So shall all nations praise the Lord, and his people shall
confess God, and the Lord shall
exalt his people; and all those which love the Lord God in truth and justice shall
rejoice,
shewing mercy to our brethren.
Wherefore now, my son,
consider what
alms doeth, and how righteousness
doth deliver. When he had said these things, he gave up the ghost in the bed, being an hundred and eight and fifty years old; and he buried him honourably.
So he called unto him all his officers, and all his nobles, and communicated with them his secret counsel, and
concluded the
afflicting of the whole earth out of his own mouth.

rebel, let not thine eye
spare them; but put them to the slaughter, and
spoil them

And
cried to the God of Israel all with one
consent earnestly, that he would not give their children for a prey, and their wives for a
spoil, and the cities of their inheritance to destruction, and the sanctuary to
profanation and reproach, and for the nations to
rejoice at.
Then said Achior, the captain of all the sons of
Ammon, Let my lord now hear a word from the mouth of thy servant, and I will declare unto thee the truth
concerning this people, which dwelleth near thee, and inhabiteth the hill countries: and there shall no lie come out of the mouth of thy servant.
Now therefore, my lord and governor, if there be any error against this people, and they sin against their God, let us consider that this shall be their ruin, and let us go up, and we shall overcome them.
So they and their wives and their children shall be consumed with fire, and before the sword come against them, they shall be overthrown in the streets where they dwell.

And took her, and asked her, Of what people art thou? and whence comest thou? and
whither goest thou? And she said, I am a woman of the Hebrews, and am fled from them: for they shall be given you to be
consumed:
Thou hast saved thy life, in that thou hast hasted to come down to the presence of our lord: now therefore come to his tent, and some of us shall conduct thee, until they have delivered thee to his hands.

Galilee,
chased them with a great slaughter, until they were past Damascus and the borders thereof.

After that I became lord over many nations and had dominion over the whole world, not lifted up with
presumption of my authority, but carrying myself always with
equity and mildness, I purposed to settle my subjects
continually in a quiet life, and making my kingdom peaceable, and open for passage to the utmost coasts, to renew peace, which is desired of all men.
Now when I asked my counsellors how this might be brought to pass, Aman, that
excelled in wisdom among us, and was approved for his
constant good will and
steadfast fidelity, and had the honour of the second place in the kingdom,
Declared unto us, that in all nations throughout the world there was scattered a certain
malicious people, that had laws
contrary to all nations, and
continually despised the commandments of kings, so as the uniting of our kingdoms, honourably intended by us cannot go forward.
Seeing then we understand that this people alone is continually in opposition unto all men, differing in the strange manner of their laws, and evil affected to our state, working all the mischief they can that our kingdom may not be firmly established:
Thou knowest all things, and thou knowest, Lord, that it was neither in contempt nor pride, nor for any desire of glory, that I did not bow down to proud Aman.

content with good will for the salvation of Israel to
kiss the soles of his feet.

shew toward every nation, as that he was called our father, and was

Having by
manifold and
cunning deceits sought of us the destruction, as well of Mardocheus, who saved our life, and
continually procured our good, as also of
blameless Esther,
partaker of our kingdom, with their whole nation.
