For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his
disciples, Make them sit down by
fifties in a company.
(There were about five thousand men.) He told His disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.”
Then he took the five
loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and
brake, and gave to the
disciples to set before the multitude.
Taking the five
loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, Jesus spoke a blessing and broke them. Then He gave them to the
disciples to set before the people.
And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets.
They all
ate and were satisfied, and the
disciples picked up twelve
basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.
And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am?
One day as Jesus was praying in private and the disciples were with Him, He questioned them: “Who do the crowds say I am?”
And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.
After the voice had spoken, only Jesus was present with them. The
disciples kept this to themselves, and in those days they did not tell
anyone what they had seen.
And I
besought thy
disciples to cast him out; and they could not.
I
begged Your
disciples to drive it out, but they were unable.”
And they were all
amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his
disciples,
And they were all
astonished at the greatness of God. While
everyone was
marveling at all that Jesus was doing, He said to His
disciples,
Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest.
Then an argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest.
And when his
disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord,
wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and
consume them, even as Elias did?
When the
disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do You want us to call down fire from heaven to
consume them?”
For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.
And He and His disciples went on to another village.
And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see:
Then Jesus turned to the disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.
But
Martha was
cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord,
dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone?
bid her therefore that she help me.
But
Martha was
distracted by all the preparations to be made. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her to help me!”
And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
One day in a place where Jesus had just finished praying, one of His disciples requested, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”
And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye
Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the
platter; but your inward part is full of
ravening and wickedness.
“Now then,” said the Lord, “you
Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and
dish, but inside you are full of
greed and wickedness.
But
woe unto you,
Pharisees! for ye
tithe mint and
rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
Woe to you
Pharisees! You pay
tithes of
mint,
rue, and every
herb, but you
disregard justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without neglecting the former.
In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people,
insomuch that they
trode one upon another, he began to say unto his
disciples first of all,
Beware ye of the
leaven of the
Pharisees, which is
hypocrisy.
In the meantime, a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were
trampling one another. Jesus began to speak first to His
disciples: “
Beware of the
leaven of the
Pharisees, which is
hypocrisy.
For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither
hid, that shall not be known.
There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, and nothing hidden that will not be made known.
And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
Then Jesus said to His
disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not
worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear.
But I have a baptism to be
baptized with; and how am I
straitened till it be accomplished!
But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished!
Ye hypocrites, ye can
discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not
discern this time?
You hypocrites! You know how to
interpret the appearance of the earth and sky. Why don’t you know how to
interpret the present time?
And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of
infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.
and a woman there had been
disabled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was
hunched over and could not stand up straight.
And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine
infirmity.
When Jesus saw her, He called her over and said, “Woman, you are set free from your disability.”
When thou art
bidden of any man to a
wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be
bidden of him;
“When you are invited to a
wedding banquet, do not sit in the place of honor, in case someone more
distinguished than you has been invited.
If any man come to me, and
hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters,
yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my
disciple.
“If
anyone comes to Me and does not
hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters—
yes, even his own life—he cannot be My
disciple.
And
whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my
disciple.
And
whoever does not carry his cross and follow Me cannot be My
disciple.
So likewise,
whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my
disciple.
In the same way, any one of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be My disciple.
And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with
riotous living.
After a few days, the younger son got everything together and journeyed to a
distant country, where he
squandered his wealth in wild living.
And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had
compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and
kissed him.
So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still in the
distance, his father saw him and was filled with
compassion. He ran to his son, embraced him, and
kissed him.
And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither
transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a
kid, that I might make
merry with my friends:
But he answered his father, ‘Look, all these years I have served you and never
disobeyed a commandment of yours. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could
celebrate with my friends.
And he said also unto his
disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a
steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods.
Jesus also said to His
disciples, “There was a rich man whose
manager was accused of wasting his possessions.
And the lord
commended the unjust
steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.
He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.
Then said he unto the
disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but
woe unto him, through whom they come!
Jesus said to His
disciples, “It is inevitable that
stumbling blocks will come, but
woe to the one through whom they come!
And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood
afar off:
As He entered one of the villages, He was met by ten lepers. They stood at a distance
And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not seeit.
Then He said to the disciples, “The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it.
But the tax
collector stood at a
distance, unwilling even to lift up his eyes to heaven. Instead, he beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a
sinner!’
And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his
disciples saw it, they
rebuked them.
Now people were even bringing their
babies to Jesus for Him to place His hands on them. And when the
disciples saw this, they
rebuked those who brought them.
Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and
distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have
treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
On hearing this, Jesus told him, “You still lack one thing: Sell everything you own and give to the poor, and you will have
treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”
And they understood none of these things: and this saying was
hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.
But the
disciples did not understand any of these things. The meaning was hidden from them, and they did not
comprehend what He was saying.
He said therefore, A certain
nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
So He said, “A man of noble birth went to a
distant country to lay claim to his
kingship and then return.
And it came to pass, when he was come
nigh to
Bethphage and
Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his
disciples,
As He approached
Bethphage and
Bethany at the Mount of Olives, He sent out two of His
disciples,
And when he was come
nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the
disciples began to
rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;
And as He approached the descent from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of
disciples began to praise God
joyfully in a loud voice for all the miracles they had seen:
And some of the
Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master,
rebuke thy
disciples.
But some of the
Pharisees in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher,
rebuke Your
disciples!”
But when the
husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
But when the tenants saw the son, they discussed it among themselves and said, ‘This is the heir. Let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’
Then in the
audience of all the people he said unto his
disciples,
In the hearing of all the people, Jesus said to His disciples,
And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said,
As some of the disciples were remarking how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and consecrated gifts, Jesus said,
But
woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give
suck, in those days! for there shall be great
distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.
How
miserable those days will be for
pregnant and
nursing mothers! For there will be great
distress upon the land and wrath against this people.
And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth
distress of nations, with
perplexity; the sea and the waves
roaring;
There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars, and on the earth
dismay among the nations,
bewildered by the
roaring of the sea and the
surging of the waves.
And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might
betray him unto them.
And
Judas went to
discuss with the chief priests and temple officers how he might
betray Jesus to them.
And ye shall say unto the
goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the
passover with my
disciples?
and say to the owner of that house, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is the
guest room, where I may eat the
Passover with My
disciples?’
And there was also a
strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.
A dispute also arose among the disciples as to which of them would be considered the greatest.
And he came out, and went, as he was
wont, to the mount of Olives; and his
disciples also followed him.
Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed Him.
And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,
When Jesus rose from prayer and returned to the
disciples, He found them
asleep, exhausted from sorrow.
Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest’s house. And Peter followed
afar off.
Then they seized Jesus, led Him away, and took Him into the house of the high priest. And Peter followed at a distance.
And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed him from
Galilee, stood
afar off, beholding these things.
But all those who knew Jesus, including the women who had followed Him from
Galilee, stood at a
distance watching these things.
And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are
sad?
He asked them, “What are you
discussing so intently as you walk along?” They stood still, with
sadness on their faces.
And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he
vanished out of their sight.
Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Jesus—and He disappeared from their sight.
And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?
While they were still in
disbelief because of their joy and
amazement, He asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?”
Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;
The next day John was there again with two of his disciples.
And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
And when the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.
And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.
and Jesus and His
disciples had also been invited to the
wedding.
This beginning of miracles did Jesus in
Cana of
Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his
disciples believed on him.
Jesus performed this, the first of His signs, at
Cana in
Galilee. He thus revealed His glory, and His
disciples believed in Him.
After this he went down to
Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his
disciples: and they continued there not many days.
After this, He went down to
Capernaum with His mother and brothers and His
disciples, and they stayed there a few days.
And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
His
disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for Your house will
consume Me.”
When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
After He was raised from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this. Then they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.
After these things came Jesus and his
disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he
tarried with them, and
baptized.
Then there arose a question between some of John’s
disciples and the Jews about
purifying.
Then a
dispute arose between John’s
disciples and a certain
Jew over the issue of
ceremonial washing.
And they came unto John, and said unto him,
Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.
So John’s
disciples came to him and said, “Look,
Rabbi, the One who was with you beyond the Jordan, the One you
testified about—He is
baptizing, and
everyone is going to Him.”
When therefore the Lord knew how the
Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and
baptized more
disciples than John,
When Jesus realized that the
Pharisees were aware He was gaining and
baptizing more
disciples than John
(Though Jesus himself
baptized not, but his
disciples,)
(although it was not Jesus who
baptized, but His
disciples),
(For his
disciples were gone away unto the city to
buy meat.)
(His
disciples had gone into the town to
buy food.)
And upon this came his
disciples, and
marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?
Just then His disciples returned and were surprised that He was speaking with a woman. But no one asked Him, “What do You want from her?” or “Why are You talking with her?”
In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.
Meanwhile the
disciples urged Him, “
Rabbi, eat something.”
Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?
So the disciples asked one another, “Could someone have brought Him food?”
For an angel went down at a certain season into the
pool, and troubled the water:
whosoever then first after the troubling of the water
stepped in was made whole of
whatsoever disease he had.
And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased.
A large crowd followed Him because they saw the signs He was performing on the sick.
And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples.
Then Jesus went up on the mountain and sat down with His disciples.
One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him,
One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him,
And Jesus took the
loaves; and when he had given
thanks, he
distributed to the
disciples, and the
disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.
Then Jesus took the
loaves and the fish, gave
thanks, and
distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted.
When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.
And when
everyone was full, He said to His
disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over, so that nothing will be wasted.”
And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea,
When evening came, His disciples went down to the sea,
The day following, when the people which stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was none other boat there, save that one
whereinto his
disciples were entered, and that Jesus went not with his
disciples into the boat, but that his
disciples were gone away alone;
The next day, the crowd that had remained on the other side of the sea realized that only one boat had been there, and that Jesus had not boarded it with His disciples, but they had gone away alone.
When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his
disciples, they also took shipping, and came to
Capernaum, seeking for Jesus.
So when the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor His
disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to
Capernaum to look for Him.
Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?
On hearing it, many of His disciples said, “This is a difficult teaching. Who can accept it?”
When Jesus knew in himself that his
disciples murmured at it, he said unto them,
Doth this
offend you?
Aware that His
disciples were
grumbling about this teaching, Jesus asked them, “Does this
offend you?
From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
From that time on many of His disciples turned back and no longer walked with Him.
His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.
So Jesus’ brothers said to Him, “Leave here and go to
Judea, so that Your
disciples there may see the works You are doing.
Then said the Jews among themselves,
Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the
dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
At this, the Jews said to one another, “Where does He intend to go that we will not find Him? Will He go where the Jews are
dispersed among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
So He said to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, you are truly My disciples.
Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.
“I do not have a
demon,” Jesus replied, “but I honor My Father, and you
dishonor Me.
And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
and His
disciples asked Him, “
Rabbi, who
sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
Jesus answered, Neither hath this man
sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents
sinned, but this happened so that the works of God would be
displayed in him.
He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?
He replied, “I already told you, and you did not
listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become His
disciples?”
Then they
reviled him, and said, Thou art his
disciple; but we are Moses’
disciples.
Then they
heaped insults on him and said, “You are His
disciple; we are
disciples of Moses.
Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.
and then He said to the
disciples, “Let us go back to
Judea.”
His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?
“
Rabbi,” they replied, “the Jews just tried to stone You, and You are going back there?”
Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.
His disciples replied, “Lord, if he is sleeping, he will get better.”
Then said Thomas, which is called
Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.
Then Thomas called
Didymus said to his fellow
disciples, “Let us also go, so that we may die with Him.”
Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.
As a result, Jesus no longer went about publicly among the Jews, but He withdrew to a town called Ephraim in an area near the wilderness. And He stayed there with the disciples.
