And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought
forth plentifully:
Then He told them a parable: “The ground of a certain rich man produced an abundance.
And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up
for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be
merry.
Then I will say to myself, “You have
plenty of good things laid up
for many years. Take it easy. Eat, drink, and be
merry!”’
So is he that layeth up
treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
This is how it will be
for anyone who stores up
treasure for himself but is not rich toward God.”
And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not
worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear.
The life is more than meat, and the body is more than
raiment.
For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.
Consider the ravens:
for they neither
sow nor
reap; which neither have
storehouse nor
barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?
Consider the ravens: They do not
sow or
reap, they have no
storehouse or
barn; yet God feeds them. How much more valuable you are than the birds!
If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?
So if you cannot do such a small thing, why do you
worry about the rest?
For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.
For the Gentiles of the world
strive after all these things, and your Father knows that you need them.
Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the kingdom.
For where your
treasure is, there will your heart be also.
For where your
treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Let your loins be
girded about, and your lights burning;
Be dressed for service and keep your lamps burning.
And ye
yourselves like unto men that wait
for their lord, when he will return from the
wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.
Then you will be like servants waiting
for their master to return from the
wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks, they can open the door
for him at once.
Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching:
verily I say unto you, that he shall
gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come
forth and serve them.
Blessed are those servants whom the master finds on watch when he returns. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve and will have them
recline at the table, and he himself will come and wait on them.
Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.
You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour you do not expect.”
The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not
for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in
sunder, and will
appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.
The master of that servant will come on a day he does not expect and at an hour he does not
anticipate. Then he will cut him to pieces and
assign him a place with the unbelievers.
But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes.
For unto
whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
But the one who unknowingly does things worthy of punishment will be beaten with few blows. From
everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and from him who has been entrusted with much, even more will be demanded.
For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
From now on, five in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three.
And why don’t you judge
for yourselves what is right?
He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his
vineyard; and he came and sought fruit
thereon, and found none.
Then Jesus told this parable: “A man had a fig tree that was planted in his
vineyard. He went to look
for fruit on it, but did not find any.
Then said he unto the dresser of his
vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?
So he said to the keeper of the
vineyard, ‘Look,
for the past three years I have come to search
for fruit on this fig tree and
haven’t found any. Therefore cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’
And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of
infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.
and a woman there had been disabled by a spirit
for eighteen years. She was
hunched over and could not stand up straight.
And the ruler of the
synagogue answered with
indignation, because that Jesus had
healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be
healed, and not on the sabbath day.
But the
synagogue leader was
indignant that Jesus had
healed on the Sabbath. “There are six days
for work,” he told the crowd. “So come and be
healed on those days and not on the Sabbath.”
And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom
Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?
Then should not this daughter of Abraham, whom
Satan has kept bound
for eighteen long years, be released from her
bondage on the Sabbath day?”
And when he had said these things, all his
adversaries were
ashamed: and all the people
rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.
Strive to enter in at the strait gate:
for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
“Make every effort to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able.
When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to
knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:
After the master of the house gets up and shuts the door, you will stand outside
knocking and saying, ‘Lord, open the door
for us.’ But he will reply, ‘I do not know where you are from.’
The same day there came certain of the
Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence:
for Herod will kill thee.
At that very hour, some
Pharisees came to Jesus and told Him, “Leave this place and get away, because Herod wants to kill You.”
Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to
morrow, and the day following:
for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.
Nevertheless, I must keep going
today and
tomorrow and the next day,
for it is not
admissible for a prophet to perish outside of Jerusalem.
And he put
forth a parable to those which were
bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them,
When Jesus noticed how the guests chose the places of honor, He told them a parable:
For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be
exalted.”
And thou shalt be blessed;
for they cannot
recompense thee:
for thou shalt be
recompensed at the resurrection of the just.
and you will be blessed. Since they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”
And sent his servant at
supper time to say to them that were
bidden, Come;
for all things are now ready.
When it was time
for the
banquet, he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come,
for everything is now ready.’
For I say unto you, That none of those men which were
bidden shall taste of my
supper.
For I tell you, not one of those men who were invited will taste my
banquet.’”
For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
Which of you, wishing to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost to see if he has the resources to complete it?
Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an
ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.
And if he is unable, he will send a
delegation while the other king is still far off, to ask
for terms of peace.
So likewise,
whosoever he be of you that
forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
In the same way, any one of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be My disciple.
It is neither fit
for the land, nor yet
for the
dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile, and it is thrown out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.
Now all the tax collectors and sinners were gathering around to
listen to Jesus.
And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them,
Rejoice with me;
for I have found my sheep which was lost.
comes home, and calls together his friends and neighbors to tell them, ‘
Rejoice with me,
for I have found my lost sheep!’
And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying,
Rejoice with me;
for I have found the piece which I had lost.
And when she finds it, she calls together her friends and neighbors to say, ‘
Rejoice with me,
for I have found my lost coin.’
But the father said to his servants, Bring
forth the best
robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and
shoes on his feet:
But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best
robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and
sandals on his feet.
For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be
merry.
For this son of mine was dead and is alive again! He was lost and is found!’ So they began to
celebrate.
But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath
devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed
for him the
fatted calf.
But when this son of yours returns from
squandering your wealth with prostitutes, you kill the
fattened calf for him!’
It was meet that we should make
merry, and be
glad:
for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
But it was fitting to
celebrate and be
glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”
And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy
stewardship;
for thou mayest be no longer
steward.
So he called him in to ask, ‘What is this I hear about you? Turn in an account of your management,
for you cannot be
manager any longer.’
The
manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do, now that my master is taking away my position? I am too weak to
dig and too
ashamed to
beg.
And the lord
commended the unjust
steward, because he had done wisely:
for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.
And I say unto you, Make to
yourselves friends of the
mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into
everlasting habitations.
I tell you, use worldly wealth to make friends
for yourselves, so that when it is gone, they will
welcome you into eternal dwellings.
No servant can serve two masters:
for either he will
hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and
despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and
mammon.
No servant can serve two masters. Either he will
hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and
despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
And he said unto them, Ye are they which
justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts:
for that which is highly esteemed among men is
abomination in the sight of God.
So He said to them, “You are the ones who
justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts.
For what is prized among men is
detestable before God.
The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.
The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John. Since that time, the gospel of the kingdom of God is being preached, and
everyone is
forcing his way into it.
And it is easier
for heaven and earth to pass, than one
tittle of the law to fail.
But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for a single stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law.
And he
cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send
Lazarus, that he may dip the
tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue;
for I am
tormented in this flame.
So he
cried out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send
Lazarus to dip the
tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue.
For I am in
agony in this fire.’
For I have five brethren; that he may
testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of
torment.
for I have five brothers. Let him
warn them, so that they will not also end up in this place of
torment.’
It were better
for him that a
millstone were
hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should
offend one of these little ones.
It would be better
for him to have a
millstone hung around his neck and to be thrown into the sea than to cause one of these little ones to
stumble.
And if he
trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I
repent; thou shalt
forgive him.
Even if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times returns to say, ‘I
repent,’ you must
forgive him.”
There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.
Was no one found except this foreigner to return and give glory to God?”
Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
Nor will people say, ‘Look, here it is,’ or ‘There it is.’ For you see, the kingdom of God is in your midst.”
For as the
lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.
For just as the
lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other, so will be the Son of Man in His day.
In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.
On that day, let no one on the housetop come down to
retrieve his possessions. Likewise, let no one in the field return
for anything he has left behind.
And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
For a while he refused, but later he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect men,
And shall not God
avenge his own
elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
Will not God bring about justice
for His
elect who cry out to Him day and night? Will He continue to
defer their help?
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other:
for every one that exalteth himself shall be
abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be
exalted.
I tell you, this man, rather than the
Pharisee, went home justified.
For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be
exalted.”
And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they
rebuked them.
Now people were even bringing their
babies to Jesus
for Him to place His hands on them. And when the disciples saw this, they
rebuked those who brought them.
But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and
forbid them not:
for of such is the kingdom of God.
But Jesus called the children to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them! For the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
But when the ruler heard this, he became very
sad, because he was extremely wealthy.
And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
Seeing the man’s
sadness, Jesus said, “How hard it is
for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!
For it is easier
for a
camel to go through a needle’s eye, than
for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
Indeed, it is easier
for a
camel to pass through the eye of a needle than
for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
And he said unto them,
Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children,
for the kingdom of God’s sake,
“Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God
Saying, What
wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.
“What do you want Me to do for you?” “Lord,” he said, “let me see again.”
And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not
for the press, because he was little of
stature.
He was trying to see who Jesus was, but could not see over the crowd because he was small in
stature.
And he ran before, and
climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him:
for he was to pass that way.
And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make
haste, and come down;
for to day I must
abide at thy house.
When Jesus came to that place, He looked up and said, “Zacchaeus,
hurry down,
for I must stay at your house
today.”
And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.
Jesus said to him, “
Today salvation has come to this house, because this man too is a son of Abraham.
For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
He said therefore, A certain
nobleman went into a far country to receive
for himself a kingdom, and to return.
So He said, “A man of noble birth went to a distant country to lay claim to his
kingship and then return.
Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.
The first servant came
forward and said, ‘Master, your
mina has produced ten more
minas.’
For I feared thee, because thou art an
austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou
didst not
sow.
For I was afraid of you, because you are a harsh man. You withdraw what you did not deposit and
reap what you did not
sow.’
For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.
He replied, ‘I tell you that
everyone who has will be given more; but the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.
But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring
hither, and
slay them before me.
And these enemies of mine who were unwilling
for me to rule over them, bring them here and
slay them in front of me.’”
And when he was come
nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to
rejoice and praise God with a loud voice
for all the mighty works that they had seen;
And as He approached the descent from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of disciples began to praise God
joyfully in a loud voice
for all the miracles they had seen:
For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a
trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,
For the days will come upon you when your enemies will
barricade you and
surround you and
hem you in on every side.
And could not find what they might do:
for all the people were very
attentive to hear him.
Yet they could not find a way to do so, because all the people hung on His words.
But and if we say, Of men; all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a prophet.
But if we say, ‘From men,’ all the people will stone us,
for they are
convinced that John was a prophet.”
Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a
vineyard, and let it
forth to
husbandmen, and went into a far country
for a long time.
Then He proceeded to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a
vineyard, rented it out to some tenants, and went away
for a long time.
He shall come and destroy these
husbandmen, and shall give the
vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God
forbid.
He will come and kill those tenants, and will give the
vineyard to others.” And when the people heard this, they said, “May such a thing never happen!”
And the chief priests and the
scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people:
for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.
When the
scribes and chief priests realized that Jesus had spoken this parable against them, they sought to arrest Him that very hour. But they were afraid of the people.
And they watched him, and sent
forth spies, which should
feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.
So they watched Him closely and sent
spies who pretended to be
sincere. They were hoping to catch Him in His words in order to hand Him over to the rule and authority of the governor.
Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or no?
Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man’s brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
“Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man is to marry his brother’s widow and raise up offspring for him.
Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.
So then, in the resurrection, whose wife will she be? For all seven were married to her.”
Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
In fact, they can no longer die, because they are like the angels. And since they are sons of the resurrection, they are sons of God.
Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the
bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
Even Moses demonstrates that the dead are raised, in the passage about the burning
bush.
For he calls the Lord ‘the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’
For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.
He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to Him all are alive.”
And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
For David himself says in the book of Psalms: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand
until I make Your enemies a
footstool for Your feet.”’
Which
devour widows’ houses, and
for a
shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater
damnation.
For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her
penury hath cast in all the living that she had.
For they all contributed out of their
surplus, but she out of her poverty has put in all she had to live on.”
