And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests
blew with the
trumpets, Joshua said unto the people,
Shout; for the LORD hath
given you the city.
After the seventh time around, the priests
blew the horns, and Joshua commanded the people, “
Shout! For the LORD has
given you the city!
And Joshua said unto
Achan, My son,
give, I pray thee, glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me.
So Joshua said to
Achan, “My son,
give glory to the LORD, the God of Israel, and make a confession to Him. I
urge you to tell me what you have done; do not hide it from me.”
And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear not, neither be thou dismayed: take all the people of war with thee, and arise, go up to
Ai: see, I have
given into thy hand the king of
Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land:
Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid or discouraged. Take the whole army with you, and go up and attack
Ai. See, I have delivered into your hand the king of
Ai, his people, his city, and his land.
And it shall be, when ye have taken the city, that ye shall set the city on fire: according to the commandment of the LORD shall ye do. See, I have commanded you.
And when you have taken the city, set it on fire. Do as the LORD has commanded! See, I have given you orders.”
And the LORD said unto Joshua, Stretch out the
spear that is in thy hand toward
Ai; for I will
give it into thine hand. And Joshua stretched out the
spear that he had in his hand toward the city.
Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Hold out your battle
lance toward
Ai, for into your hand I will deliver the city.” So Joshua held out his battle
lance toward
Ai,
And they answered Joshua, and said, Because it was certainly told thy servants, how that the LORD thy God commanded his servant Moses to
give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you, therefore we were
sore afraid of our lives because of you, and have done this thing.
The Gibeonites answered, “Your servants were told clearly that the LORD your God had commanded His servant Moses to
give you all the land and
wipe out all its inhabitants before you. So we greatly feared for our lives because of you, and that is why we have done this.
Them did Moses the servant of the LORD and the children of Israel
smite: and Moses the servant of the LORD gave it for a possession unto the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of
Manasseh.
Moses, the servant of the LORD, and the Israelites had struck them down and
given their land as an inheritance to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of
Manasseh.
With whom the Reubenites and the Gadites have received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond Jordan eastward, even as Moses the servant of the LORD gave them;
The other half of
Manasseh, along with the Reubenites and Gadites, had received the inheritance Moses had
given them beyond the Jordan to the east, just as Moses the servant of the LORD had assigned to them:
Only unto the tribe of Levi he gave none inheritance; the sacrifices of the LORD God of Israel made by fire are their inheritance, as he said unto them.
To the tribe of Levi, however, Moses had given no inheritance. The offerings made by fire to the LORD, the God of Israel, are their inheritance, just as He had promised them.
And Moses gave unto the tribe of the children of
Reuben inheritance according to their families.
This is what Moses had
given to the clans of the tribe of
Reuben:
And Moses gave inheritance unto the tribe of
Gad, even unto the children of
Gad according to their families.
This is what Moses had
given to the clans of the tribe of
Gad:
And Moses gave inheritance unto the half tribe of
Manasseh: and this was the possession of the half tribe of the children of
Manasseh by their families.
This is what Moses had
given to the clans of the half-tribe of
Manasseh, that is, to half the tribe of the descendants of
Manasseh:
These are the countries which Moses did distribute for inheritance in the plains of Moab, on the other side Jordan, by
Jericho, eastward.
These were the portions Moses had
given them on the plains of Moab beyond the Jordan, east of
Jericho.
But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the LORD God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them.
To the tribe of Levi, however, Moses had given no inheritance. The LORD, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, just as He had promised them.
For Moses had given the inheritance of two tribes and an half tribe on the other side Jordan: but unto the Levites he gave none inheritance among them.
For Moses had given the inheritance east of the Jordan to the other two and a half tribes. But he granted no inheritance among them to the Levites.
For the children of Joseph were two tribes,
Manasseh and Ephraim: therefore they gave no part unto the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with their suburbs for their cattle and for their substance.
The descendants of Joseph became two tribes,
Manasseh and Ephraim. And no portion of the land was
given to the Levites, except for cities in which to live, along with pasturelands for their flocks and herds.
Now therefore
give me this mountain,
whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and
fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.
Now therefore
give me this hill country that the LORD promised me on that day, for you
yourself heard then that the
Anakim were there, with great and fortified cities. Perhaps with the LORD’s help I will drive them out, as the LORD has spoken.”
And
Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I
give Achsah my daughter to wife.
And
Caleb said, “To the man who strikes down Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will
give my daughter Acsah in marriage.”
Who answered,
Give me a blessing; for thou hast
given me a south land;
give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs, and the
nether springs.
“
Give me a blessing,” she answered. “Since you have
given me land in the Negev,
give me springs of water as well.” So
Caleb gave her both the upper and lower springs.
And they came near before
Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of
Nun, and before the princes, saying, The LORD commanded Moses to
give us an inheritance among our brethren. Therefore according to the commandment of the LORD he gave them an inheritance among the brethren of their father.
They approached
Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of
Nun, and the leaders, and said, “The LORD commanded Moses to
give us an inheritance among our brothers.” So Joshua gave them an inheritance among their father’s brothers, in keeping with the command of the LORD.
And the children of Joseph spake unto Joshua, saying, Why hast thou
given me but one lot and one portion to
inherit, seeing I am a great people,
forasmuch as the LORD hath blessed me hitherto?
Then the sons of Joseph said to Joshua, “Why have you given us only one portion as an inheritance? We have many people, because the LORD has blessed us abundantly.”
And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye
slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath
given you?
So Joshua said to the Israelites, “How long will you put off entering and possessing the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you?
Give out from among you three men for each tribe: and I will send them, and they shall rise, and go through the land, and describe it according to the inheritance of them; and they shall come again to me.
Appoint three men from each tribe, and I will send them out to survey the land and map it out, according to the inheritance of each. Then they will return to me
And when he that
doth flee unto one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city unto them, and
give him a place, that he may dwell among them.
When someone flees to one of these cities, stands at the entrance of the city gate, and states his case before its elders, they are to bring him into the city and give him a place to live among them.
And they spake unto them at
Shiloh in the land of
Canaan, saying, The LORD commanded by the hand of Moses to
give us cities to dwell in, with the suburbs thereof for our cattle.
at
Shiloh in the land of
Canaan and said to them, “The LORD commanded through Moses that we be
given cities in which to live, together with pasturelands for our
livestock.”
But the fields of the city, and the villages thereof, gave they to
Caleb the son of Jephunneh for his possession.
But they had
given the fields and villages around the city to
Caleb son of Jephunneh as his possession.
All the cities of the children of Aaron, the priests, were thirteen cities with their suburbs.
In all, thirteen cities, together with their pasturelands, were given to the priests, the descendants of Aaron.
For they gave them
Shechem with her suburbs in mount Ephraim, to be a city of refuge for the
slayer; and
Gezer with her suburbs,
From the tribe of Ephraim they were
given Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim (a city of refuge for the
manslayer),
Gezer,
And out of the tribe of
Dan, Eltekeh with her suburbs, Gibbethon with her suburbs,
From the tribe of
Dan they were
given Elteke, Gibbethon,
And out of the half tribe of
Manasseh, Tanach with her suburbs, and
Gath-
rimmon with her suburbs; two cities.
And from the half-tribe of
Manasseh they were
given Taanach and
Gath-
rimmon—two cities, together with their pasturelands.
All the cities were ten with their suburbs for the families of the children of
Kohath that remained.
In all, ten cities, together with their pasturelands, were given to the rest of the Kohathite clans.
And unto the children of Gershon, of the families of the Levites, out of the other half tribe of
Manasseh they gave Golan in
Bashan with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the
slayer; and Beesh-terah with her suburbs; two cities.
This is what the
Levite clans of the Gershonites were
given: From the half-tribe of
Manasseh they were
given Golan in
Bashan, a city of refuge for the
manslayer, and Beeshterah—two cities, together with their pasturelands.
And out of the tribe of
Issachar,
Kishon with her suburbs, Dabareh with her suburbs,
From the tribe of
Issachar they were
given Kishion, Daberath,
And out of the tribe of Asher, Mishal with her suburbs, Abdon with her suburbs,
From the tribe of Asher they were given Mishal, Abdon,
And out of the tribe of
Naphtali, Kedesh in
Galilee with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the
slayer; and Hammoth-
dor with her suburbs, and Kartan with her suburbs; three cities.
And from the tribe of
Naphtali they were
given Kedesh in
Galilee (a city of refuge for the
manslayer), Hammoth-
dor, and Kartan—three cities, together with their pasturelands.
All the cities of the Gershonites according to their families were thirteen cities with their suburbs.
In all, thirteen cities, together with their pasturelands, were given to the Gershonite clans.
And unto the families of the children of Merari, the rest of the Levites, out of the tribe of
Zebulun, Jokneam with her suburbs, and Kartah with her suburbs,
This is what the Merarite clan (the rest of the Levites) were given:
Dimnah with her suburbs, Nahalal with her suburbs; four cities.
From the tribe of
Zebulun they were
given Jokneam, Kartah, Dimnah, and Nahalal—four cities, together with their pasturelands.
And out of the tribe of
Reuben,
Bezer with her suburbs, and Jahazah with her suburbs,
And the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he
sware to
give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein.
Thus the LORD gave Israel all the land He had
sworn to
give their fathers, and they took possession of it and settled in it.
Ye have not left your brethren these many days unto this day, but have kept the charge of the commandment of the LORD your God.
All this time you have not deserted your brothers, up to this very day, but have kept the charge given you by the LORD your God.
And now the LORD your God hath given rest unto your brethren, as he promised them: therefore now return ye, and get you unto your tents, and unto the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the other side Jordan.
And now that the LORD your God has given your brothers rest as He promised them, you may return to your homes in the land that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you across the Jordan.
Now to the one half of the tribe of
Manasseh Moses had
given possession in
Bashan: but unto the other half thereof gave Joshua among their brethren on this side Jordan westward. And when Joshua sent them away also unto their tents, then he blessed them,
(To the half-tribe of
Manasseh Moses had
given land in
Bashan, and to the other half Joshua gave land on the west side of the Jordan among their brothers.) When Joshua sent them to their homes he blessed them,
And it came to pass a long time after that the LORD had
given rest unto Israel from all their enemies round about, that Joshua waxed old and
stricken in age.
A long time after the LORD had given Israel rest from all the enemies around them, when Joshua was old and well along in years,
Know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive out any of these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and
traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God hath
given you.
know for sure that the LORD your God will no longer drive out these nations before you. Instead, they will become for you a
snare and a
trap, a
scourge in your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land that the LORD your God has
given you.
Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all good things are come upon you, which the LORD your God promised you; so shall the LORD bring upon you all evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you.
But just as every good thing the LORD your God promised you has come to pass, likewise the LORD will bring upon you the
calamity He has threatened, until He has destroyed you from this good land He has
given you.
When ye have
transgressed the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed
yourselves to them; then shall the anger of the LORD be
kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath
given unto you.
If you
transgress the covenant of the LORD your God, which He commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them, then the anger of the LORD will burn against you, and you will quickly perish from this good land He has
given you.”
And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.
So I gave you a land on which you did not
toil and cities that you did not build, and now you live in them and eat from vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant.’
And
Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him in a hill that
pertained to
Phinehas his son, which was
given him in mount Ephraim.
Eleazar son of Aaron also died, and they buried him at Gibeah, which had been
given to his son
Phinehas in the hill country of Ephraim.
And
Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I
give Achsah my daughter to wife.
And
Caleb said, “To the man who strikes down Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will
give my daughter Acsah in marriage.”
And she said unto him,
Give me a blessing: for thou hast
given me a south land;
give me also springs of water. And
Caleb gave her the upper springs and the
nether springs.
“
Give me a blessing,” she answered. “Since you have
given me land in the Negev,
give me springs of water as well.” So
Caleb gave her both the upper and lower springs.
And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their
stubborn way.
But when the judge died, the Israelites became even more corrupt than their fathers, going after other gods to serve them and bow down to them. They would not
give up their evil practices and
stubborn ways.
And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would
hearken unto the commandments of the LORD, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.
These nations were left to test the Israelites, to find out whether they would keep the commandments of the LORD, which He had given their fathers through Moses.
And he said unto her,
Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink; for I am
thirsty. And she opened a
bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him.
Sisera said to her, “Please
give me a little water to drink, for I am
thirsty.” So she opened a container of milk, gave him a drink, and covered him again.
Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will sing unto the LORD; I will sing praise to the LORD God of Israel.
Listen, O kings!
Give ear, O princes! I will sing to the LORD; I will sing praise to the LORD, the God of Israel.
And he said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, then
shew me a sign that thou talkest with me.
Gideon answered, “If I have found favor in Your sight,
give me a sign that it is You speaking with me.
And the LORD said unto
Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to
give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel
vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.
Then the LORD said to
Gideon, “You have too many people for Me to deliver
Midian into their hands, lest Israel
glorify themselves over Me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’
And he said unto the men of Succoth,
Give, I pray you,
loaves of bread unto the people that follow me; for they be
faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of
Midian.
So
Gideon said to the men of Succoth, “Please
give my troops some bread, for they are exhausted, and I am still pursuing Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of
Midian.”
And the princes of Succoth said, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thine army?
But the leaders of Succoth asked, “Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna already in your possession, that we should give bread to your army?”
And he came unto the men of Succoth, and said, Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, with whom ye did
upbraid me, saying, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should
give bread unto thy men that are
weary?
And
Gideon went to the men of Succoth and said, “Here are Zebah and Zalmunna, about whom you
taunted me, saying, ‘Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna already in your possession, that we should
give bread to your
weary men?’”
And
Gideon said unto them, I would desire a request of you, that ye would
give me every man the earrings of his prey. (For they had golden earrings, because they were
Ishmaelites.)
Then he added, “Let me make a request of you, that each of you
give me an
earring from his
plunder.” (For the enemies had gold earrings because they were
Ishmaelites.)
And they answered, We will willingly give them. And they spread a garment, and did cast therein every man the earrings of his prey.
“We will
give them
gladly,” they replied. So they spread out a garment, and each man threw an
earring from his
plunder onto it.
And
Jephthah said unto the elders of
Gilead, If ye bring me home again to fight against the children of
Ammon, and the LORD deliver them before me, shall I be your head?
But
Jephthah asked them, “If you take me back to fight the
Ammonites and the LORD
gives them to me, will I really be your leader?”
Wilt not thou possess that which
Chemosh thy god
giveth thee to possess? So
whomsoever the LORD our God shall drive out from before us, them will we possess.
Do you not possess whatever your god
Chemosh grants you? So also, we possess whatever the LORD our God has granted us.
And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said,
Alas, my daughter! thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of them that trouble me: for I have opened my mouth unto the LORD, and I cannot go back.
As soon as
Jephthah saw her, he
tore his clothes and said, “No! Not my daughter! You have brought me to my knees! You have brought great misery upon me, for I have
given my word to the LORD and cannot take it back.”
And she said unto him, My father, if thou hast opened thy mouth unto the LORD, do to me according to that which hath proceeded out of thy mouth;
forasmuch as the LORD hath taken
vengeance for thee of thine enemies, even of the children of
Ammon.
“My father,” she replied, “you have
given your word to the LORD. Do to me as you have said, for the LORD has
avenged you of your enemies, the
Ammonites.”
And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.
The angel of the LORD appeared to the woman and said to her, “It is true that you are barren and have no children; but you will conceive and give birth to a son.
For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no
razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a
Nazarite unto God from the
womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.
For behold, you will conceive and
give birth to a son. And no
razor shall come over his head, because the boy will be a
Nazirite to God from the
womb, and he will begin the
deliverance of Israel from the hand of the Philistines.”
But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a
Nazarite to God from the
womb to the day of his death.
But he said to me, ‘Behold, you will conceive and
give birth to a son. Now, therefore, do not drink wine or strong drink, and do not eat anything unclean, because the boy will be a
Nazirite to God from the
womb until the day of his death.’”
And
Samson said unto them, I will now put forth a
riddle unto you: if ye can certainly declare it me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will
give you thirty sheets and thirty change of garments:
“Let me tell you a
riddle,”
Samson said to them. “If you can
solve it for me within the seven days of the feast, I will
give you thirty linen garments and thirty sets of clothes.
But if ye cannot declare it me, then shall ye
give me thirty sheets and thirty change of garments. And they said unto him, Put forth thy
riddle, that we may hear it.
But if you cannot
solve it, you must
give me thirty linen garments and thirty sets of clothes.” “Tell us your
riddle,” they replied. “Let us hear it.”
But
Samson’s wife was
given to his companion, whom he had used as his friend.
and his wife was given to one of the men who had accompanied him.
Then the Philistines said, Who hath done this? And they answered,
Samson, the son in law of the Timnite, because he had taken his wife, and
given her to his companion. And the Philistines came up, and burnt her and her father with fire.
“Who did this?” the Philistines demanded. “It was
Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite,” they were told. “For his wife was
given to his companion.” So the Philistines went up and burned her and her father to death.
And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her,
Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to
afflict him: and we will
give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver.
The lords of the Philistines went to her and said, “
Entice him and find out the source of his great strength and how we can overpower him to
tie him up and
subdue him. Then each one of us will
give you eleven hundred shekels of silver.”
And
Micah said unto him, Dwell with me, and be unto me a father and a priest, and I will
give thee ten shekels of silver by the year, and a suit of
apparel, and thy
victuals. So the
Levite went in.
“Stay with me,”
Micah said to him, “and be my father and priest, and I will
give you ten shekels of silver per year, a suit of clothes, and your provisions.” So the
Levite went in
When ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure, and to a large land: for God hath given it into your hands; a place where there is no want of any thing that is in the earth.
When you enter, you will come to an
unsuspecting people and a
spacious land, for God has delivered it into your hand. It is a place where nothing on earth is lacking.”
Behold, ye are all children of Israel; give here your advice and counsel.
Behold, all you Israelites,
give your advice and
verdict here and now.”
Now the men of Israel had
sworn in Mizpeh, saying, There shall not any of us
give his daughter unto Benjamin to wife.
Now the men of Israel had
sworn an oath at
Mizpah, saying, “Not one of us will
give his daughter in marriage to a
Benjamite.”
How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing we have
sworn by the LORD that we will not
give them of our daughters to wives?
What should we do about wives for the survivors, since we have
sworn by the LORD not to
give them our daughters in marriage?”
And Benjamin came again at that time; and they gave them wives which they had saved alive of the women of
Jabesh-
gilead: and yet so they sufficed them not.
And at that time the Benjamites returned and were
given the women who were
spared from
Jabesh-
gilead. But there were not enough women for all of them.
Howbeit we may not
give them wives of our daughters: for the children of Israel have
sworn, saying,
Cursed be he that
giveth a wife to Benjamin.
But we cannot
give them our daughters as wives.” For the Israelites had
sworn, “
Cursed is he who
gives a wife to a
Benjamite.”
And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come unto us to
complain, that we will say unto them, Be favourable unto them for our sakes: because we reserved not to each man his wife in the war: for ye did not
give unto them at this time, that ye should be guilty.
When their fathers or brothers come to us to
complain, we will tell them, ‘Do us a favor by helping them, since we did not get wives for each of them in the war. Since you did not actually
give them your daughters, you have no guilt.’”
The LORD
recompense thy work, and a full reward be
given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust.
May the LORD repay your work, and may you receive a rich reward from the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have taken refuge.”
Now this was the manner in former time in Israel concerning
redeeming and concerning changing, for to
confirm all things; a man
plucked off his
shoe, and gave it to his neighbour: and this was a testimony in Israel.
Now in former times in Israel, concerning the
redemption or exchange of property, to make any matter legally binding a man would remove his
sandal and
give it to the other party, and this was a
confirmation in Israel.
And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which the LORD shall give thee of this young woman.
And may your house become like the house of
Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah, because of the offspring the LORD will
give you by this young woman.”
And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a
nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him.
He will renew your life and
sustain you in your old age. For your daughter-in-law, who loves you and is better to you than seven sons, has
given him birth.”
And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:
And whenever the day came for Elkanah to present his sacrifice, he would give portions to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters.
But unto
Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved
Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her
womb.
But to
Hannah he would
give a double portion, for he loved her even though the LORD had closed her
womb.
And she
vowed a
vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou
wilt indeed look on the
affliction of thine
handmaid, and remember me, and not
forget thine
handmaid, but
wilt give unto thine
handmaid a man child, then I will
give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no
razor come upon his head.
For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:
I prayed for this boy, and since the LORD has granted me what I asked of Him,
They that were full have
hired out themselves for bread; and they that were
hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.
The well-fed
hire themselves out for food, but the
starving hunger no more. The barren woman
gives birth to seven, but she who has many sons pines away.
The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.
The LORD brings death and
gives life; He brings down to
Sheol and raises up.
The
adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he
thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall
give strength unto his king, and
exalt the horn of his
anointed.
Those who
oppose the LORD will be
shattered. He will
thunder from heaven against them. The LORD will judge the ends of the earth and will
give power to His king. He will
exalt the horn of His
anointed.”
Also before they burnt the fat, the priest’s servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed,
Give flesh to
roast for the priest; for he will not have
sodden flesh of thee, but raw.
Even before the fat was burned, the servant of the priest would come and say to the man who was sacrificing, “
Give the priest some meat to
roast, because he will not accept boiled meat from you, but only raw.”
And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him,
Nay; but thou shalt
give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.
