Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain.
He will attack the strongest fortresses with the help of a foreign god and will greatly honor those who acknowledge him, making them rulers over many and distributing the land for a price.
And she conceived again, and bare a daughter. And God said unto him, Call her name Lo-ruhamah: for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel; but I will utterly take them away.
Gomer again conceived and gave birth to a daughter, and the LORD said to
Hosea, “Name her Lo-ruhamah, for I will no longer have
compassion on the house of Israel, that I should ever
forgive them.
But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by the LORD their
God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by
horsemen.
Yet I will have
compassion on the house of Judah, and I will save them—not by bow or sword or war, not by horses and cavalry, but by the LORD their
God.”
Then said God, Call his name Lo-ammi: for ye are not my people, and I will not be your God.
And the LORD said, “Name him Lo-ammi, for you are not My people, and I am not your God.
Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God.
Yet the number of the Israelites will be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or counted. And it will happen that in the very place where it was said to them, ‘You are not My people,’ they will be called ‘sons of the living God.’
And I will
sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my
God.
And I will
sow her as My own in the land, and I will have
compassion on ‘No
Compassion.’ I will say to those called ‘Not My People,’ ‘You are My people,’ and they will say, ‘You are my
God.’”
Then said the LORD unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an
adulteress, according to the love of the LORD toward the children of Israel, who look to other
gods, and love flagons of wine.
Then the LORD said to me, “Go show love to your wife again, though she is loved by another and is an
adulteress. Love her as the LORD loves the Israelites, though they turn to other
gods and offer
raisin cakes to idols.”
Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days.
Afterward, the people of Israel will return and seek the LORD their
God and David their king. They will come
trembling to the LORD and to His goodness in the last days.
Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
Hear the word of the LORD, O children of Israel, for the LORD has a case against the people of the land: “There is no truth, no loving devotion, and no knowledge of God in the land!
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also
reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy
God, I will also
forget thy children.
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also
reject you as My priests. Since you have forgotten the law of your
God, I will also
forget your children.
My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to
err, and they have gone a
whoring from under their
God.
My people
consult their wooden idols, and their divining rods inform them. For a spirit of
prostitution leads them
astray and they have played the
harlot against their
God.
They will not frame their doings to turn unto their God: for the spirit of whoredoms is in the midst of them, and they have not known the LORD.
Their deeds do not permit them to return to their
God, for a spirit of
prostitution is within them, and they do not know the LORD.
For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.
And the pride of Israel testifieth to his face: and they do not return to the LORD their God, nor seek him for all this.
Israel’s
arrogance testifies against them, yet they do not return to the LORD their
God;
despite all this, they do not seek Him.
Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.
Israel
cries out to Me, “O our
God, we know You!”
For from Israel was it also: the
workman made it; therefore it is not
God: but the
calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.
For this thing is from Israel— a
craftsman made it, and it is not
God. It will be broken to pieces, that
calf of Samaria.
Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, as other people: for thou hast gone a
whoring from thy
God, thou hast loved a reward upon every
cornfloor.
The
watchman of Ephraim was with my
God: but the prophet is a
snare of a fowler in all his ways, and hatred in the house of his
God.
The prophet is Ephraim’s
watchman, along with my
God, yet the
snare of the fowler lies on all his paths. Hostility is in the house of his
God!
My
God will cast them away, because they did not
hearken unto him: and they shall be wanderers among the nations.
My
God will
reject them because they have not obeyed Him; and they shall be wanderers among the nations.
I will not
execute the fierceness of mine anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim: for I am
God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee: and I will not enter into the city.
I will not
execute the full
fury of My anger; I will not turn back to destroy Ephraim. For I am
God and not man— the Holy One among you— and I will not come in wrath.
Ephraim compasseth me about with lies, and the house of Israel with
deceit: but Judah yet ruleth with
God, and is faithful with the saints.
Ephraim surrounds Me with lies, the house of Israel with
deceit; but Judah still walks with
God and is faithful to the Holy One.
He took his brother by the
heel in the
womb, and by his strength he had power with
God:
Even the LORD
God of hosts; the LORD is his
memorial.
the LORD is the
God of Hosts— the LORD is His name of
renown.
Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.
But you must return to your God, maintaining love and justice, and always waiting on your God.
And I that am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.
But I am the LORD your God ever since the land of Egypt. I will again make you dwell in tents, as in the days of the appointed feast.
Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.
Yet I am the LORD your
God ever since the land of Egypt; you know no
God but Me, for there is no
Savior besides Me.
Samaria shall become
desolate; for she hath rebelled against her
God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be
dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be
ripped up.
Samaria will bear her guilt because she has rebelled against her
God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be
dashed to pieces, and their
pregnant women
ripped open.
O Israel, return unto the LORD thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity.
Return, O Israel, to the LORD your
God, for you have
stumbled by your iniquity.
Asshur shall not save us; we will not
ride upon horses: neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, Ye are our
gods: for in thee the fatherless findeth mercy.
Assyria will not save us, nor will we
ride on horses. We will never again say, ‘Our
gods!’ to the work of our own hands. For in You the fatherless find
compassion.”
Gird yourselves, and
lament, ye priests:
howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in
sackcloth, ye ministers of my
God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is
withholden from the house of your
God.
Put on
sackcloth and
lament, O priests;
wail, O ministers of the altar. Come,
spend the night in
sackcloth, O ministers of my
God, because the grain and drink offerings are
withheld from the house of your
God.
Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your
God, and cry unto the LORD,
Consecrate a fast;
proclaim a solemn assembly! Gather the elders and all the residents of the land to the house of the LORD your
God, and cry out to the LORD.
Is not the meat cut off before our eyes,
yea, joy and
gladness from the house of our
God?
Has not the food been cut off before our very eyes— joy and
gladness from the house of our
God?
And
rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your
God: for he is
gracious and
merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.
So
rend your hearts and not your garments, and return to the LORD your
God. For He is
gracious and
compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion. And He relents from sending
disaster.
Who knoweth if he will return and
repent, and leave a blessing behind him; even a meat offering and a drink offering unto the LORD your
God?
Who knows? He may turn and relent and leave a blessing behind Him— grain and drink offerings for the LORD your God.
Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD,
weep between the
porch and the altar, and let them say,
Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine
heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their
God?
Let the priests who minister before the LORD
weep between the
portico and the altar, saying, “
Spare Your people, O LORD, and do not make Your
heritage a reproach, an object of
scorn among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their
God?’”
Be
glad then, ye children of
Zion, and
rejoice in the LORD your
God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.
Be
glad, O children of
Zion, and
rejoice in the LORD your
God, for He has given you the autumn rains for your
vindication. He sends you showers, both autumn and spring rains, as before.
And ye shall eat in
plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your
God, that hath dealt
wondrously with you: and my people shall never be
ashamed.
You will have
plenty to eat, until you are satisfied. You will praise the name of the LORD your
God, who has worked wonders for you. My people will never again be put to shame.
And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your
God, and none else: and my people shall never be
ashamed.
Then you will know that I am present in Israel and that I am the LORD your God, and there is no other. My people will never again be put to shame.
So shall ye know that I am the LORD your
God dwelling in
Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.
Then you will know that I am the LORD your
God, who dwells in
Zion, My holy mountain. Jerusalem will be holy, never again to be overrun by foreigners.
And I will cut off the inhabitant from
Ashdod, and him that holdeth the
sceptre from Ashkelon, and I will turn mine hand against
Ekron: and the
remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord
GOD.
I will cut off the ruler of
Ashdod and the one who wields the
scepter in Ashkelon. I will turn My hand against
Ekron, and the
remnant of the Philistines will perish,” says the Lord
GOD.
And they lay themselves down upon clothes laid to
pledge by every altar, and they drink the wine of the condemned in the house of their
god.
They lie down beside every altar on garments taken in
pledge. And in the house of their
God, they drink wine obtained through fines.
Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.
Surely the Lord
GOD does nothing without
revealing His plan to His servants the prophets.
The lion hath
roared, who will not fear? the Lord
GOD hath spoken, who can but
prophesy?
The lion has
roared— who will not fear? The Lord
GOD has spoken— who will not
prophesy?
Therefore thus saith the Lord
GOD; An
adversary there shall be even round about the land; and he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be
spoiled.
Therefore this is what the Lord
GOD says: “An enemy will
surround the land; he will pull down your strongholds and
plunder your citadels.”
Hear ye, and
testify in the house of Jacob, saith the Lord
GOD, the
God of hosts,
Hear and
testify against the house of Jacob, declares the Lord
GOD, the
God of Hosts.
The Lord
GOD hath
sworn by his
holiness, that, lo, the days shall come upon you, that he will take you away with hooks, and your
posterity with fishhooks.
The Lord
GOD has
sworn by His
holiness: “Behold, the days are coming when you will be taken away with hooks, and your
posterity with fishhooks.
Offer
leavened bread as a
thank offering, and loudly
proclaim your
freewill offerings. For that is what you children of Israel love to do,” declares the Lord
GOD.
I have overthrown some of you, as
God overthrew
Sodom and
Gomorrah, and ye were as a
firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.
Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.
“Therefore, that is what I will do to you, O Israel, and since I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel!
For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, The LORD, The God of hosts, is his name.
For behold, He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind and reveals His thoughts to man, who turns the
dawn to darkness and strides on the heights of the earth— the LORD, the
God of Hosts, is His name.”
For thus saith the Lord GOD; The city that went out by a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth by an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel.
This is what the Lord GOD says: “The city that marches out a thousand strong will only see a hundred return, and the one that marches out a hundred strong will have but ten left in the house of Israel.”
Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.
Seek good, not evil, so that you may live. And the LORD, the God of Hosts, will be with you, as you have claimed.
Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD
God of hosts will be
gracious unto the
remnant of Joseph.
Hate evil and love good; establish justice in the gate. Perhaps the LORD, the
God of Hosts, will be
gracious to the
remnant of Joseph.”
Therefore this is what the LORD, the
God of Hosts, the Lord, says: “There will be
wailing in all the public squares and
cries of ‘
Alas!
Alas!’ in all the streets. The farmer will be summoned to
mourn, and the mourners to
wail.
But ye have borne the tabernacle of your
Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your
god, which ye made to
yourselves.
You have taken along Sakkuth your king and Kaiwan your star
god, the idols you made for
yourselves.
Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the LORD, whose name is The God of hosts.
Therefore I will send you into exile beyond Damascus,” says the LORD, whose name is the God of Hosts.
The Lord
GOD hath
sworn by himself, saith the LORD the
God of hosts, I
abhor the
excellency of Jacob, and
hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.
The Lord
GOD has
sworn by Himself—the LORD, the
God of Hosts, has declared: “I
abhor Jacob’s pride and
detest his citadels, so I will deliver up the city and everything in it.”
But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the LORD the
God of hosts; and they shall
afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.
For behold, I will raise up a nation against you, O house of Israel,” declares the LORD, the
God of Hosts, “and they will
oppress you from Lebo-
hamath to the
Brook of the Arabah.”
Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings.
This is what the Lord GOD showed me: He was preparing swarms of locusts just after the king’s harvest, as the late spring crop was coming up.
And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord
GOD,
forgive, I
beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
And when the locusts had eaten every green plant in the land, I said, “Lord
GOD, please
forgive! How will Jacob
survive, since he is so small?”
Thus hath the Lord
GOD shewed unto me: and, behold, the Lord
GOD called to
contend by fire, and it
devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part.
This is what the Lord
GOD showed me: The Lord
GOD was calling for judgment by fire. It consumed the great deep and
devoured the land.
Then said I, O Lord
GOD, cease, I
beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
Then I said, “Lord
GOD, please stop! How will Jacob
survive, since he is so small?”
The LORD
repented for this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord
GOD.
So the LORD relented from this plan. “It will not happen either,” said the Lord GOD.
Thus hath the Lord
GOD shewed unto me: and behold a
basket of summer fruit.
This is what the Lord
GOD showed me: I saw a
basket of summer fruit.
And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord GOD: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.
“In that day,” declares the Lord
GOD, “the songs of the temple will turn to
wailing. Many will be the corpses,
strewn in silence everywhere!”
And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord
GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at
noon, and I will
darken the earth in the clear day:
And in that day, declares the Lord
GOD, I will make the sun go down at
noon, and I will
darken the earth in the
daytime.
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord
GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a
thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:
Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord
GOD, when I will send a famine on the land— not a famine of bread or a
thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD.
They that
swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy
god, O
Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beer-
sheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.
Those who
swear by the guilt of Samaria and say, ‘As surely as your
god lives, O
Dan,’ or, ‘As surely as the way of
Beersheba lives’— they will fall, never to rise again.”
And the Lord
GOD of hosts is he that toucheth the land, and it shall
melt, and all that dwell therein shall
mourn: and it shall rise up wholly like a flood; and shall be
drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.
The Lord
GOD of Hosts, He who touches the earth and it melts, and all its dwellers
mourn— all the land rises like the Nile, then sinks like the river of Egypt—
Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the LORD.
Surely the eyes of the Lord GOD are on the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from the face of the earth. Yet I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob,” declares the LORD.
And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the LORD thy God.
I will firmly plant them in their own land, never again to be uprooted from the land that I have given them,” says the LORD your God.
The vision of
Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord
GOD concerning
Edom; We have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.
This is the vision of
Obadiah: This is what the Lord
GOD says about
Edom— We have heard a message from the LORD; an
envoy has been sent among the nations to say, “Rise up, and let us go to battle against her!”—
Then the mariners were afraid, and
cried every man unto his
god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to
lighten it of them. But
Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast
asleep.
The sailors were afraid, and each
cried out to his own
god. And they threw the ship’s
cargo into the sea to
lighten the load. But
Jonah had gone down to the lowest part of the vessel, where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep.
So the
shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy
God, if so be that
God will think upon us, that we perish not.
The captain approached him and said, “How can you sleep? Get up and call upon your God. Perhaps this God will consider us, so that we may not perish.”
And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.
“I am a Hebrew,” replied
Jonah. “I worship the LORD, the
God of the heavens, who made the sea and the dry land.”
Then
Jonah prayed unto the LORD his
God out of the fish’s
belly,
From inside the fish,
Jonah prayed to the LORD his
God,
I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.
To the roots of the mountains I descended; the earth beneath me
barred me in
forever! But You raised my life from the pit, O LORD my
God!
So the people of
Nineveh believed
God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on
sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
And the Ninevites believed
God. They proclaimed a fast and dressed in
sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least.
But let man and beast be covered with
sackcloth, and cry
mightily unto
God:
yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
Furthermore, let both man and beast be covered with
sackcloth, and have
everyone call out earnestly to
God. Let each one turn from his evil ways and from the violence in his hands.
Who can tell if
God will turn and
repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
Who knows? God may turn and relent; He may turn from His fierce anger, so that we will not perish.”
And
God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and
God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.
When
God saw their actions—that they had turned from their evil ways—He relented from the
disaster He had threatened to bring upon them.
And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto
Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a
gracious God, and
merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.
So he prayed to the LORD, saying, “O LORD, is this not what I said while I was still in my own country? This is why I was so quick to
flee toward
Tarshish. I knew that You are a
gracious and
compassionate God, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion—One who relents from sending
disaster.
And the LORD
God prepared a
gourd, and made it to come up over
Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver him from his grief. So
Jonah was exceeding
glad of the
gourd.
So the LORD
God appointed a vine, and it grew up to provide shade over
Jonah’s head to ease his discomfort, and
Jonah was greatly pleased with the plant.
But
God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it
smote the
gourd that it
withered.
When
dawn came the next day,
God appointed a worm that attacked the plant so that it
withered.
And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that
God prepared a
vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of
Jonah, that he
fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.
As the sun was rising,
God appointed a
scorching east wind, and the sun beat down on
Jonah’s head so that he grew
faint and wished to die, saying, “It is better for me to die than to live.”
And
God said to
Jonah, Doest thou well to be
angry for the
gourd? And he said, I do well to be
angry, even unto death.
Then
God asked
Jonah, “Have you any right to be
angry about the plant?” “I do,” he replied. “I am
angry enough to die!”
Hear, all ye people;
hearken, O earth, and all that therein is: and let the Lord
GOD be witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple.
Hear, O peoples, all of you;
listen, O earth, and
everyone in it! May the Lord
GOD bear witness against you, the Lord from His holy temple.
Then shall the seers be
ashamed, and the diviners confounded:
yea, they shall all cover their lips; for there is no answer of
God.
Then the seers will be
ashamed and the diviners will be disgraced. They will all cover their mouths because there is no answer from
God.”
And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the
God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of
Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
And many nations will come and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the
God of Jacob. He will teach us His ways, so that we may walk in His paths.” For the law will go forth from
Zion and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
For all people will walk every one in the name of his god, and we will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever.
Though each of the peoples may walk in the name of his
god, yet we will walk in the name of the LORD our
God forever and ever.
And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his
God; and they shall
abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.
He will stand and
shepherd His flock in the strength of the LORD, in the
majestic name of the LORD His
God. And they will dwell securely, for then His greatness will extend to the ends of the earth.
Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the high
God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with
calves of a year old?
With what shall I come before the LORD when I bow before the
God on high? Should I come to Him with burnt offerings, with year-old
calves?
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what
doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk
humbly with thy
God?
He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk
humbly with your
God?
The good man is perished out of the earth: and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they
hunt every man his brother with a net.
The
godly man has perished from the earth; there is no one upright among men. They all lie in wait for blood; they
hunt one another with a net.
Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.
But as for me, I will look to the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me.
Then she that is mine enemy shall see it, and shame shall cover her which said unto me, Where is the LORD thy
God? mine eyes shall behold her: now shall she be
trodden down as the
mire of the streets.
Then my enemy will see and will be covered with shame— she who said to me, “Where is the LORD your
God?” My eyes will see her; at that time she will be
trampled like mud in the streets.
They shall
lick the dust like a serpent, they shall move out of their holes like worms of the earth: they shall be afraid of the LORD our
God, and shall fear because of thee.
They will
lick the dust like a
snake, like reptiles slithering on the ground. They will
crawl from their holes in the presence of the LORD our
God; they will
tremble in fear of You.
Who is a
God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the
transgression of the
remnant of his
heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.
Who is a
God like You, who pardons iniquity and passes over the
transgression of the
remnant of His inheritance— who does not retain His anger
