And he set the rods which he had
pilled before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came to drink.
Then he set the
peeled branches in the watering troughs in front of the flocks coming in to drink. So when the flocks were in
heat and came to drink,
And it came to pass,
whensoever the stronger cattle did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods.
Whenever the stronger females of the flock were in heat, Jacob would place the branches in the troughs, in full view of the animals, so that they would breed in front of the branches.

drought consumed me, and the
frost by night; and my sleep departed from mine eyes.

heat consumed me by day and the
frost by night, and sleep fled from my eyes.
Both thy
bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the
heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye
buy bondmen and bondmaids.

And I will
scatter you among the
heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be
desolate, and your cities waste.

scatter you among the nations and will draw out a sword after you as your land becomes

smite thee with a consumption, and with a fever, and with an inflammation, and with an extreme burning, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with
mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish.

scorching heat and
drought, and with
blight and
mildew; these will pursue you until you perish.

devoured with burning
heat, and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust.

ravaged by
pestilence and bitter plague; I will send the fangs of wild beasts against them, with the
venom of vipers that
slither in the dust.

morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the host in the morning watch, and

Rimmon the Beerothite, set out and arrived at the house of
Ish-bosheth in the
heat of the day, while the king was taking his
midday nap.

yea, and made his son to pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the

And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his
testimonies which he
testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the
heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them, that they should not do like them.
They rejected His statutes and the covenant He had made with their fathers, as well as the decrees He had given them. They pursued worthless idols and themselves became worthless, going after the surrounding nations that the LORD had commanded them not to
imitate.

thanks to Your holy name, that we may glory in Your praise.’

Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of
Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the
heathen whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
Moreover,
Ahaz burned incense in the Valley of
Hinnom and sacrificed his sons in the fire, according to the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.

Manasseh made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to

Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people,
transgressed very much after all the abominations of the
heathen; and

hallowed in Jerusalem.

defiled the house of the LORD, which He had consecrated in Jerusalem.

buy back our Jewish brothers who were sold to foreigners, but now you are selling your own brothers, that they may be sold back to us!” But they remained silent, for they could find nothing to say.
Also I said, It is not good that ye do: ought ye not to walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies?
So I continued, “What you are doing is not right. Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God to avoid the reproach of our foreign enemies?
Moreover there were at my table an hundred and fifty of the Jews and rulers, beside those that came unto us from among the heathen that are about us.
There were 150 Jews and officials at my table, besides the guests from the surrounding nations.
Wherein was written, It is reported among the
heathen, and Gashmu saith it, that thou and the Jews think to
rebel: for which cause thou buildest the wall, that thou mayest be their king, according to these words.

plotting to revolt, and this is why you are building the wall. According to these reports, you are to become their king,
And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard thereof, and all the heathen that were about us saw these things, they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God.
When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and
disheartened, for they realized that this task had been accomplished by our God.
What time they wax warm, they
vanish: when it is hot, they are consumed out of their place.
but ceasing in the dry season and
vanishing from their channels in the
heat.
My skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat.
My skin grows black and peels, and my bones burn with fever.
Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a
molten looking glass?
can you, like Him, spread out the
skies to
reflect the
heat like a mirror of bronze?
Why do the
heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
Why do the nations
rage and the peoples plot in vain?
Ask of me, and I shall give thee the
heathen for thine inheritance, and the
uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
Ask Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance, the ends of the earth Your possession.
Thou hast
rebuked the
heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever.
You have
rebuked the nations; You have destroyed the wicked; You have
erased their name
forever and ever.
The
heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they
hid is their own foot taken.
The nations have fallen into a pit of their making; their feet are caught in the net they have hidden.
Arise, O LORD; let not man prevail: let the heathen be judged in thy sight.
Rise up, O LORD, do not let man prevail; let the nations be judged in Your presence.
The LORD is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land.
The LORD is King
forever and ever; the nations perish from His land.
Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; and thou hast made me the head of the heathen: a people whom I have not known shall serve me.
You have delivered me from the
strife of the people; You have made me the head of nations; a people I had not known shall serve me.
Therefore will I give
thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the
heathen, and sing praises unto thy name.
Therefore I will praise You, O LORD, among the nations; I will sing praises to Your name.
His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing
hid from the
heat thereof.
it rises at one end of the heavens and runs its circuit to the other; nothing is deprived of its
warmth.
For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the
drought of summer.
Selah.
For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was drained as in the summer
heat.
Selah The LORD bringeth the counsel of the
heathen to
nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect.
The LORD frustrates the plans of the nations; He thwarts the devices of the peoples.
How thou
didst drive out the
heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou
didst afflict the people, and cast them out.
With Your hand You drove out the nations and planted our fathers there; You
crushed the peoples and cast them out.
Thou hast given us like sheep appointed for meat; and hast scattered us among the heathen.
You have given us up as sheep to be
devoured; You have scattered us among the nations.
Thou makest us a
byword among the
heathen, a
shaking of the head among the people.
The
heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.
Nations
rage, kingdoms
crumble; the earth melts when He lifts His voice.
Be still, and know that I am God: I will be
exalted among the
heathen, I will be
exalted in the earth.
“Be still and know that I am God; I will be
exalted among the nations, I will be
exalted over the earth.”
God reigneth over the
heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his
holiness.
God reigns over the nations; God is seated on His holy throne.
Thou therefore, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel,
awake to visit all the
heathen: be not
merciful to any wicked transgressors.
Selah.
O LORD God of Hosts, the God of Israel,
rouse Yourself to
punish all the nations; show no mercy to the wicked traitors.
Selah But thou, O LORD, shalt
laugh at them; thou shalt have all the
heathen in
derision.
But You, O LORD,
laugh at them; You
scoff at all the nations.
He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
He drove out nations before them and
apportioned their inheritance; He settled the tribes of Israel in their tents.
O God, the
heathen are come into thine inheritance; thy holy temple have they
defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps.
The nations, O God, have invaded Your inheritance; they have
defiled Your holy temple and reduced Jerusalem to
rubble.
Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name.
Pour out Your wrath on the nations that do not acknowledge You, on the kingdoms that refuse to call on Your name,
Wherefore should the
heathen say, Where is their God? let him be known among the
heathen in our sight by the
revenging of the blood of thy servants which is shed.
Why should the nations ask, “Where is their God?” Before our eyes, make known among the nations Your
vengeance for the
bloodshed of Your servants.
Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.
You uprooted a vine from Egypt; You drove out the nations and
transplanted it.
He that chastiseth the heathen, shall not he correct? he that teacheth man knowledge, shall not he know?
He who admonishes the nations, does He not discipline? He who teaches man, does He lack knowledge?
Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people.
Declare His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all peoples.
Say among the heathen that the LORD reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved: he shall judge the people righteously.
Declare among the nations: “The LORD reigns!” The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved; He will judge the peoples with
equity.
The LORD hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.
The LORD has proclaimed His salvation and revealed His righteousness to the nations.
So the heathen shall fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth thy glory.
So the nations will fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth will fear Your glory.
And gave them the lands of the heathen: and they inherited the labour of the people;
He gave them the lands of the nations, that they might
inherit the fruit of others’ labor,
But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works.
but they mingled with the nations and adopted their customs.
And he gave them into the hand of the
heathen; and they that
hated them ruled over them.
He delivered them into the hand of the nations, and those who
hated them ruled over them.
Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the
heathen, to give
thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise.
Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from the nations, that we may give
thanks to Your holy name, that we may glory in Your praise.
He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries.
He will judge the nations,
heaping up the dead; He will
crush the leaders far and wide.
He hath shewed his people the power of his works, that he may give them the
heritage of the
heathen.
He has shown His people the power of His works by giving them the inheritance of the nations.
Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God?
Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?”
Then was our mouth filled with
laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the
heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them.
Then our mouths were filled with
laughter, our tongues with shouts of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.”
The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.
The idols of the nations are silver and gold, made by the hands of men.
Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone?
Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; but how can one keep warm alone?
And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the
daytime from the
heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a
covert from storm and from rain.
a shelter to give shade from the heat by day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and the rain.
For the fields of
Heshbon languish, and the vine of Sibmah: the lords of the
heathen have broken down the principal plants thereof, they are come even unto Jazer, they
wandered through the wilderness: her branches are stretched out, they are gone over the sea.
For the fields of
Heshbon have
withered, along with the grapevines of Sibmah. The rulers of the nations have
trampled its choicest vines, which had reached as far as Jazer and spread toward the desert. Their shoots had spread out and passed over the sea.
For so the LORD said unto me, I will take my rest, and I will consider in my dwelling place like a clear
heat upon herbs, and like a cloud of
dew in the
heat of harvest.
For this is what the LORD has told me: “I will quietly look on from My dwelling place, like
shimmering heat in the
sunshine, like a cloud of
dew in the
heat of harvest.”
For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the
needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the
heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.
For You have been a refuge for the poor, a
stronghold for the
needy in distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the
heat. For the breath of the
ruthless is like rain against a wall,
Thou shalt bring down the noise of strangers, as the heat in a dry place; even the heat with the shadow of a cloud: the branch of the terrible ones shall be brought low.
like
heat in a dry land. You
subdue the
uproar of foreigners. As the shade of a cloud cools the
heat, so the song of the
ruthless is silenced.
They shall not hunger nor
thirst; neither shall the
heat nor sun
smite them: for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them.
They will not hunger or
thirst, nor will
scorching heat or sun beat down on them. For He who has
compassion on them will guide them and lead them beside springs of water.
A wild
ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not
weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.
a wild
donkey at home in the wilderness,
sniffing the wind in the
heat of her desire. Who can restrain her passion? All who seek her need not
weary themselves; in mating season they will find her.
I will
scatter them also among the
heathen, whom neither they nor their fathers have known: and I will send a sword after them, till I have consumed them.
I will
scatter them among the nations that neither they nor their fathers have known, and I will send a sword after them until I have finished them off.”
Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
This is what the LORD says: “Do not learn the ways of the nations or be
terrified by the signs in the heavens, though the nations themselves are
terrified by them.
Pour out thy
fury upon the
heathen that know thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name: for they have eaten up Jacob, and
devoured him, and consumed him, and have made his
habitation desolate.
Pour out Your wrath on the nations that do not acknowledge You, and on the families that do not call on Your name. For they have
devoured Jacob; they have consumed him and finished him off; they have
devastated his homeland.
For he shall be like the
heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the
parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.
He will be like a
shrub in the desert; he will not see when prosperity comes. He will dwell in the
parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.
For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when
heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of
drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
He is like a tree planted by the waters that sends out its roots toward the stream. It does not fear when the
heat comes, and its leaves are always green. It does not
worry in a year of
drought, nor does it cease to produce fruit.
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ask ye now among the
heathen, who hath heard such things: the virgin of Israel hath done a very
horrible thing.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: “Inquire among the nations: Who has ever heard things like these? Virgin Israel has done a most terrible thing.
Therefore thus saith the LORD of
Jehoiakim king of Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the
heat, and in the night to the
frost.
Therefore this is what the LORD says about
Jehoiakim king of Judah: He will have no one to sit on David’s throne, and his body will be thrown out and exposed to
heat by day and
frost by night.
Flee, save your lives, and be like the
heath in the wilderness.
‘
Flee! Run for your lives! Become like a
juniper in the desert.’
I have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent unto the heathen, saying, Gather ye together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle.
I have heard a message from the LORD; an
envoy has been sent to the nations: “
Assemble yourselves to march against her! Rise up for battle!”
For, lo, I will make thee small among the
heathen, and
despised among men.
“For behold, I will make you small among nations,
despised among men.
In their
heat I will make their feasts, and I will make them
drunken, that they may
rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not
wake, saith the LORD.
While they are
flushed with
heat, I will serve them a feast, and I will make them
drunk so that they may
revel; then they will fall
asleep forever and never
wake up, declares the LORD.
Judah is gone into captivity because of
affliction, and because of great
servitude: she dwelleth among the
heathen, she findeth no rest: all her persecutors overtook her between the straits.
Judah has gone into exile under
affliction and harsh slavery; she dwells among the nations but finds no place to rest. All her pursuers have overtaken her in the midst of her distress.
