Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
He teareth
himself in his anger: shall the earth be
forsaken for thee? and shall the rock be removed out of his place?
You who
tear yourself in anger— should the earth be
forsaken on your account, or the rocks be moved from their place?
The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his
candle shall be put out with
him.
The light in his tent grows dark, and the lamp beside him goes out.
The steps of his strength shall be
straitened, and his own counsel shall cast
him down.
For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walketh upon a
snare.
For his own feet lead
him into a net, and he wanders into its
mesh.
The
gin shall take
him by the
heel, and the
robber shall prevail against
him.
The
snare is laid for
him in the ground, and a
trap for
him in the way.
A
noose is hidden in the ground, and a
trap lies in his path.
Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet.
His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors.
He is
torn from the shelter of his tent and is marched off to the king of terrors.
His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off.
The roots beneath him dry up, and the branches above him wither away.
His
remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street.
The memory of him perishes from the earth, and he has no name in the land.
They that come after
him shall be
astonied at his day, as they that went before were
affrighted.
Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.
Surely such is the dwelling of the wicked and the place of one who does not know God.”
He hath also
kindled his wrath against me, and he counteth me unto
him as one of his enemies.
His anger burns against me, and He counts me among His enemies.
I called my servant, and he gave me no answer; I intreated him with my mouth.
I call for my servant, but he does not answer, though I
implore him with my own mouth.
Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my
reins be consumed within me.
I will see Him for myself; my eyes will behold Him, and not as a stranger. How my heart yearns within me!
But ye should say, Why
persecute we
him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me?
If you say, ‘Let us
persecute him, since the root of the matter lies with
him,’
Yet he shall perish for ever like his own dung: they which have seen him shall say, Where is he?
he will perish
forever, like his own dung; those who had seen
him will ask, ‘Where is he?’
The eye also which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his place any more behold him.
The eye that saw him will see him no more, and his place will no longer behold him.
His bones are full of the sin of his youth, which shall lie down with him in the dust.
The youthful
vigor that fills his bones will lie down with
him in the dust.
Yet his meat in his
bowels is turned, it is the gall of asps within
him.
yet in his stomach his food
sours into the
venom of cobras within
him.
He shall
suck the poison of asps: the
viper’s tongue shall
slay him.
He will
suck the poison of cobras; the fangs of a
viper will kill
him.
There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods.
Nothing is left for
him to
consume; thus his prosperity will not
endure.
In the
fulness of his
sufficiency he shall be in straits: every hand of the wicked shall come upon
him.
In the midst of his
plenty, he will be distressed; the full force of misery will come upon
him.
When he is about to fill his
belly, God shall cast the
fury of his wrath upon
him, and shall rain it upon
him while he is eating.
When he has filled his stomach, God will
vent His
fury upon
him, raining it down on
him as he eats.
He shall
flee from the iron weapon, and the bow of steel shall strike
him through.
It is drawn, and cometh out of the body;
yea, the
glittering sword cometh out of his gall: terrors are upon
him.
It is drawn out of his back, the
gleaming point from his liver. Terrors come over
him.
All darkness shall be
hid in his secret places: a fire not
blown shall
consume him; it shall go ill with
him that is left in his tabernacle.
Total darkness is reserved for his treasures. A fire unfanned will
consume him and
devour what is left in his tent.
The heaven shall
reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against
him.
The heavens will
expose his iniquity, and the earth will rise up against
him.
This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the
heritage appointed unto
him by God.
This is the wicked man’s portion from God, the inheritance God has appointed him.”
What is the
Almighty, that we should serve
him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto
him?
Who is the
Almighty, that we should serve
Him, and what would we gain if we pray to
Him?’
God layeth up his iniquity for his children: he rewardeth him, and he shall know it.
It is said that God lays up one’s punishment for his children. Let God repay the man himself, so he will know it.
His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the
Almighty.
Let his eyes see his own destruction; let
him drink for
himself the wrath of the
Almighty.
For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst?
For what does he care about his household after him, when the number of his months has run out?
Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done?
Who denounces his
behavior to his face? Who repays
him for what he has done?
The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall draw after him, as there are innumerable before him.
The clods of the valley are sweet to
him;
everyone follows behind
him, and those before
him are without number.
Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?
“Can a man be of use to God? Can even a wise man benefit Him?
Is it any pleasure to the
Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to
him that thou makest thy ways perfect?
Does it delight the
Almighty that you are righteous? Does He profit if your ways are
blameless?
Thick clouds are a covering to
him, that he
seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.
Thick clouds
veil Him so He does not see us as He traverses the
vault of heaven.’
Acquaint now
thyself with
him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.
Reconcile now and be at peace with
Him; thereby good will come to you.
Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.
You will pray to
Him, and He will hear you, and you will
fulfill your vows.
He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.
He will deliver even one who is not innocent,
rescuing him through the cleanness of your hands.”
Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!
If only I knew where to find Him, so that I could go to His seat.
I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.
I would
plead my case before
Him and fill my mouth with arguments.
There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.
Then an upright man could reason with
Him, and I would be delivered
forever from my Judge.
Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:
If I go east, He is not there, and if I go west, I cannot find Him.
On the left hand, where he
doth work, but I cannot behold
him: he hideth
himself on the right hand, that I cannot see
him:
When He is at work in the north, I cannot behold Him; when He turns to the south, I cannot see Him.
But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth.
But He is unchangeable, and who can
oppose Him? He does what He desires.
For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him.
For He carries out His decree against me, and He has many such plans.
Therefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him.
Therefore I am
terrified in His presence; when I consider this, I fear
Him.
Why, seeing times are not hidden from the
Almighty, do they that know
him not see his days?
“Why does the
Almighty not reserve times for judgment? Why may those who know
Him never see His days?
They cause
him to go naked without clothing, and they take away the
sheaf from the
hungry;
The
womb shall
forget him; the worm shall feed sweetly on
him; he shall be no more remembered; and wickedness shall be broken as a tree.
The
womb forgets them; the worm feeds on them; they are remembered no more. So injustice is like a broken tree.
Though it be given
him to be in safety,
whereon he resteth; yet his eyes are upon their ways.
He gives them a sense of security, but His eyes are on their ways.
Dominion and fear are with him, he maketh peace in his high places.
“Dominion and
awe belong to God; He establishes harmony in the heights of heaven.
How hast thou helped him that is without power? how savest thou the arm that hath no strength?
“How you have helped the powerless and saved the arm that is feeble!
How hast thou counseled
him that hath no wisdom? and how hast thou
plentifully declared the thing as it is?
How you have counseled the unwise and provided fully sound insight!
Hell is naked before
him, and destruction hath no covering.
Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of
him? but the
thunder of his power who can understand?
Indeed, these are but the fringes of His ways; how
faint is the
whisper we hear of
Him! Who then can understand the
thunder of His power?”
Will God hear his cry when trouble cometh upon him?
Will God hear his cry when distress comes upon him?
Will he delight
himself in the
Almighty? will he always call upon God?
Will he delight in the
Almighty? Will he call upon God at all times?
Those that remain of
him shall be buried in death: and his widows shall not
weep.
His survivors will be buried by the plague, and their widows will not
weep for them.
Terrors take hold on
him as waters, a
tempest stealeth
him away in the night.
Terrors overtake
him like a flood; a
tempest sweeps
him away in the night.
The east wind carrieth him away, and he departeth: and as a storm hurleth him out of his place.
The east wind carries him away, and he is gone; it sweeps him out of his place.
For God shall cast upon
him, and not
spare: he would
fain flee out of his hand.
It hurls itself against
him without mercy as he flees
headlong from its power.
Men shall
clap their hands at
him, and shall hiss
him out of his place.
It
claps its hands at
him and hisses
him out of his place.
Because I delivered the poor that
cried, and the fatherless, and
him that had none to help
him.
because I
rescued the poor who
cried out and the fatherless who had no helper.
The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.
The dying man blessed me, and I made the widow’s heart sing for joy.
Did not I
weep for
him that was in trouble? was not my soul
grieved for the poor?
What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?
what will I do when God rises to judge? How will I answer when called to account?
Did not he that made me in the
womb make
him? and did not one fashion us in the
womb?
Did not He who made me in the
womb also make them? Did not the same One form us in the
womb?
(For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother’s
womb;)
though from my youth I reared
him as would a father, and from my mother’s
womb I guided the widow—
If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the
fleece of my sheep;
if his heart has not blessed me for warming
him with the
fleece of my sheep,
If I
rejoiced at the destruction of
him that
hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found
him:
I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.
I would give account of all my steps; I would approach Him like a prince.)—
Then was
kindled the wrath of
Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his wrath
kindled, because he justified
himself rather than God.
This
kindled the anger of
Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram. He burned with anger against Job for
justifying himself rather than God,
Also against his three friends was his wrath
kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.
and he burned with anger against Job’s three friends because they had failed to
refute Job, and yet had condemned
him.
But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the
Almighty giveth them understanding.
But there is a spirit in a man, the breath of the
Almighty, that gives
him understanding.
Lest ye should say, We have found out wisdom: God thrusteth him down, not man.
So do not claim, ‘We have found wisdom; let God, not man,
refute him.’
Now he hath not directed his words against me: neither will I answer him with your speeches.
But Job has not directed his words against me, and I will not answer him with your arguments.
Why
dost thou
strive against
him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.
Why do you
complain to
Him that He answers nothing a man asks?
That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.
to turn a man from
wrongdoing and keep
him from pride,
Yet if there is a
messenger on his side, one
mediator in a thousand, to tell a man what is right for
him,
Then he is
gracious unto
him, and saith, Deliver
him from going down to the pit: I have found a
ransom.
to be
gracious to
him and say, ‘
Spare him from going down to the Pit; I have found his
ransom,’
He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.
He prays to God and finds favor; he sees God’s face and shouts for joy, and God restores His righteousness to that man.
For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.
For he has said, ‘It profits a man nothing that he should delight in God.’
For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.
For according to a man’s deeds He repays him; according to a man’s ways He brings consequences.
Who hath given him a charge over the earth? or who hath disposed the whole world?
Who gave Him charge over the earth? Who appointed Him over the whole world?
If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;
If He were to set His heart to it and withdraw His Spirit and breath,
Could one who hates justice
govern? Will you
condemn the just and mighty One,
How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.
who is not partial to princes and does not favor rich over poor? For they are all the work of His hands.
For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.
For God need not examine a man further or have him approach for judgment.
Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:
because they turned aside from Him and had no regard for any of His ways.
So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto
him, and he heareth the cry of the
afflicted.
They caused the cry of the poor to come before
Him, and He heard the outcry of the
afflicted.
When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:
But when He remains silent, who can
condemn Him? When He hides His face, who can see
Him? Yet He watches over both man and nation,
If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?
If you sin, what do you
accomplish against
Him? If you multiply your transgressions, what do you do to
Him?
If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?
If you are righteous, what do you give Him, or what does He receive from your hand?
Although thou sayest thou shalt not see him, yet judgment is before him; therefore trust thou in him.
How much less, then, when you say that you do not see Him, that your case is before Him and you must wait for Him,
If they obey and serve
him, they shall
spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.
If they obey and serve Him, then they end their days in prosperity and their years in happiness.
Behold, God exalteth by his power: who teacheth like him?
Behold, God is
exalted in His power. Who is a teacher like
Him?
Who hath
enjoined him his way? or who can say, Thou hast wrought iniquity?
Who has appointed His way for Him, or told Him, ‘You have done wrong’?
