Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven.
Thus the goat became very great, but at the height of his power, his large horn was broken off, and four prominent horns came up in its place, pointing toward the four winds of heaven.
Yea, he
magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of
his sanctuary was cast down.
It
magnified itself, even to the Prince of the host; it removed
His daily sacrifice and overthrew the place of
His sanctuary.
And the rough goat is the king of
Grecia: and the great horn that is between
his eyes is the first king.
The
shaggy goat represents the king of Greece, and the large horn between
his eyes is the first king.
Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power.
The four horns that replaced the broken one represent four kingdoms that will rise from that nation, but will not have the same power.
And
his power shall be mighty, but not by
his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall
prosper, and
practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.
His power will be great, but it will not be his own. He will cause terrible destruction and succeed in whatever he does. He will destroy the mighty men along with the holy people.
And through
his policy also he shall cause craft to
prosper in
his hand; and he shall
magnify himself in
his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.
Through
his craft and by
his hand, he will cause
deceit to
prosper, and in
his own mind he will make himself great. In a time of peace he will destroy many, and he will even stand against the Prince of princes. Yet he will be broken off, but not by human hands.
In the first year of
his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years,
whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would
accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.
in the first year of
his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the sacred books, according to the word of the LORD to Jeremiah the prophet, that the
desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years.
And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and
dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep
his commandments;
And I prayed to the LORD my God and
confessed, “O, Lord, the great and
awesome God, who keeps
His covenant of loving devotion to those who love Him and keep
His commandments,
Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets.
and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God to walk in His laws, which He set before us through His servants the prophets.
And he hath confirmed his words, which he spake against us, and against our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil: for under the whole heaven hath not been done as hath been done upon Jerusalem.
You have carried out the words spoken against us and against our rulers by bringing upon us a great
disaster. For under all of heaven, nothing has ever been done like what has been done to Jerusalem.
Therefore hath the LORD watched upon the evil, and brought it upon us: for the LORD our God is righteous in all his works which he doeth: for we obeyed not his voice.
Therefore the LORD has kept the
calamity in store and brought it upon us. For the LORD our God is righteous in all He does; yet we have not obeyed
His voice.
Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of thy servant, and
his supplications, and cause thy face to
shine upon thy sanctuary that is
desolate, for the Lord’s sake.
So now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of Your servant. For Your sake, O Lord, cause Your face to
shine upon Your
desolate sanctuary.
And whiles I was speaking, and praying, and
confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my
supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God;
While I was speaking, praying,
confessing my sin and that of my people Israel, and presenting my petition before the LORD my God concerning
His holy mountain—
Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were
girded with fine gold of Uphaz:
I lifted up my eyes, and behold, there was a certain man dressed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around
his waist.
His body also was like the
beryl, and
his face as the appearance of
lightning, and
his eyes as lamps of fire, and
his arms and
his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of
his words like the voice of a multitude.
His body was like
beryl,
his face like the brilliance of
lightning,
his eyes like flaming torches,
his arms and legs like the
gleam of polished bronze, and
his voice like the sound of a multitude.
Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I in a deep sleep on my face, and my face toward the ground.
I heard the sound of
his words, and as I
listened, I fell into a deep sleep, with my face to the ground.
And now will I
shew thee the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and by
his strength through
his riches he shall
stir up all against the realm of
Grecia.
Now then, I will tell you the truth: Three more kings will arise in Persia, and then a fourth, who will be far richer than all the others. By the power of
his wealth, he will
stir up
everyone against the kingdom of Greece.
And a mighty king shall stand up, that shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will.
Then a mighty king will arise, who will rule with great authority and do as he pleases.
And when he shall stand up,
his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; and not to
his posterity, nor according to
his dominion which he ruled: for
his kingdom shall be
plucked up, even for others beside those.
But as soon as he is established,
his kingdom will be broken up and
parceled out toward the four winds of heaven. It will not go to
his descendants, nor will it have the authority with which he ruled, because
his kingdom will be uprooted and given to others.
And the king of the south shall be strong, and one of his princes; and he shall be strong above him, and have dominion; his dominion shall be a great dominion.
The king of the South will grow strong, but one of his commanders will grow even stronger and will rule his own kingdom with great authority.
And in the end of years they shall join themselves together; for the king’s daughter of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement: but she shall not retain the power of the arm; neither shall he stand, nor
his arm: but she shall be given up, and they that brought her, and he that
begat her, and he that strengthened her in these times.
After some years they will form an alliance, and the daughter of the king of the South will go to the king of the North to seal the agreement. But
his daughter will not retain her position of power, nor will
his strength
endure. At that time she will be given up, along with her royal
escort and her father and the one who supported her.
But out of a branch of her roots shall one stand up in his estate, which shall come with an army, and shall enter into the fortress of the king of the north, and shall deal against them, and shall prevail:
But one from her family line will rise up in his place, come against the army of the king of the North, and enter his fortress, fighting and prevailing.
So the king of the south shall come into his kingdom, and shall return into his own land.
who will
invade the realm of the king of the South and then return to
his own land.
But
his sons shall be
stirred up, and shall
assemble a multitude of great forces: and one shall certainly come, and overflow, and pass through: then shall he return, and be
stirred up, even to
his fortress.
And the king of the south shall be moved with
choler, and shall come forth and fight with him, even with the king of the north: and he shall set forth a great multitude; but the multitude shall be given into
his hand.
In a
rage, the king of the South will march out to fight the king of the North, who will raise a large army, but it will be delivered into the hand of
his enemy.
And when he hath taken away the multitude, his heart shall be lifted up; and he shall cast down many ten thousands: but he shall not be strengthened by it.
When the army is carried off, the king of the South will be proud in heart and will cast down tens of thousands, but he will not triumph.
So the king of the north shall come, and cast up a mount, and take the most
fenced cities: and the arms of the south shall not
withstand, neither
his chosen people, neither shall there be any strength to
withstand.
Then the king of the North will come, build up a siege
ramp, and capture a fortified city. The forces of the South will not stand; even their best troops will not be able to resist.
But he that cometh against him shall do according to his own will, and none shall stand before him: and he shall stand in the glorious land, which by his hand shall be consumed.
The
invader will do as he pleases, and no one will stand against him. He will establish himself in the Beautiful Land, with destruction in
his hand.
He shall also set his face to enter with the strength of his whole kingdom, and upright ones with him; thus shall he do: and he shall give him the daughter of women, corrupting her: but she shall not stand on his side, neither be for him.
He will
resolve to come with the strength of
his whole kingdom, and will reach an agreement with the king of the South. He will give him a daughter in marriage in order to overthrow the kingdom, but
his plan will not succeed or help him.
After this shall he turn his face unto the isles, and shall take many: but a prince for his own behalf shall cause the reproach offered by him to cease; without his own reproach he shall cause it to turn upon him.
Then he will turn his face to the coastlands and capture many of them. But a commander will put an end to his reproach and will turn it back upon him.
Then he shall turn
his face toward the fort of
his own land: but he shall
stumble and fall, and not be found.
After this, he will turn back toward the fortresses of
his own land, but he will
stumble and fall and be no more.
Then shall stand up in his estate a raiser of taxes in the glory of the kingdom: but within few days he shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle.
In
his place one will arise who will send out a tax
collector for the glory of the kingdom; but within a few days he will be destroyed, though not in anger or in battle.
And in
his estate shall stand up a
vile person, to whom they shall not give the honour of the kingdom: but he shall come in
peaceably, and obtain the kingdom by
flatteries.
In
his place a
despicable person will arise; royal honors will not be given to him, but he will come in a time of peace and seize the kingdom by
intrigue.
He shall enter
peaceably even upon the fattest places of the province; and he shall do that which
his fathers have not done, nor
his fathers’ fathers; he shall
scatter among them the prey, and
spoil, and riches:
yea, and he shall
forecast his devices against the strong holds, even for a time.
In a time of peace, he will
invade the richest provinces and do what
his fathers and forefathers never did. He will
lavish plunder,
loot, and wealth on
his followers, and he will plot against the strongholds—but only for a time.
And he shall
stir up
his power and
his courage against the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south shall be
stirred up to battle with a very great and mighty army; but he shall not stand: for they shall
forecast devices against him.
And with a large army he will
stir up
his power and
his courage against the king of the South, who will
mobilize a very large and powerful army but will not
withstand the plots devised against him.
Yea, they that feed of the portion of
his meat shall destroy him, and
his army shall overflow: and many shall fall down slain.
Those who eat from his provisions will seek to destroy him; his army will be swept away, and many will fall slain.
Then shall he return into his land with great riches; and his heart shall be against the holy covenant; and he shall do exploits, and return to his own land.
The king of the North will return to his land with great wealth, but his heart will be set against the holy covenant; so he will do damage and return to his own land.
And arms shall stand on
his part, and they shall
pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the
abomination that maketh
desolate.
And the king shall do according to
his will; and he shall
exalt himself, and
magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall
prosper till the
indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.
Then the king will do as he pleases and will
exalt and
magnify himself above every god, and he will speak
monstrous things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been decreed must be accomplished.
Neither shall he regard the God of
his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall
magnify himself above all.
He will show no regard for the gods of
his fathers, nor for the one desired by women, nor for any other god, because he will
magnify himself above them all.
But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.
And in their place, he will honor a god of fortresses—a god his fathers did not know—with gold, silver, precious stones, and riches.
He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of
his hand, even
Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of
Ammon.
He will also
invade the Beautiful Land, and many countries will fall. But these will be delivered from
his hand:
Edom, Moab, and the leaders of the
Ammonites.
He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.
He will extend his power over many countries, and not even the land of Egypt will escape.
But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.
He will gain control of the treasures of gold and silver and over all the riches of Egypt, and the Libyans and Cushites will also submit to him.
And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.
He will pitch his royal tents between the sea and the beautiful holy mountain, but he will meet his end with no one to help him.
And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up
his right hand and
his left hand unto heaven, and
sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to
scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.
And the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, raised
his right hand and
his left hand toward heaven, and I heard him
swear by Him who lives
forever, saying, “It will be for a time, and times, and half a time. When the power of the holy people has finally been
shattered, all these things will be completed.”
And the LORD said unto him, Call
his name
Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will
avenge the blood of
Jezreel upon the house of
Jehu, and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel.
Then the LORD said to
Hosea, “Name him
Jezreel, for soon I will bring the
bloodshed of
Jezreel upon the house of
Jehu, and I will put an end to the kingdom of Israel.
Then said God, Call his name Lo-ammi: for ye are not my people, and I will not be your God.
And the LORD said, “Name him Lo-ammi, for you are not My people, and I am not your God.
Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days.
Afterward, the people of Israel will return and seek the LORD their God and David their king. They will come
trembling to the LORD and to
His goodness in the last days.
And the pride of Israel
doth testify to
his face: therefore shall Israel and Ephraim fall in their iniquity; Judah also shall fall with them.
Israel’s
arrogance testifies against them; Israel and Ephraim
stumble in their iniquity; even Judah stumbles with them.
When Ephraim saw
his sickness, and Judah saw
his wound, then went Ephraim to the Assyrian, and sent to king Jareb: yet could he not
heal you, nor cure you of your wound.
When Ephraim saw
his sickness and Judah
his wound, then Ephraim turned to Assyria and sent to the great king. But he cannot cure you or
heal your wound.
After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.
After two days He will revive us; on the third day He will raise us up, that we may live in His presence.
Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.
So let us know— let us press on to know the LORD. As surely as the sun rises, He will appear; He will come to us like the rain, like the spring showers that water the earth.
In the day of our king the princes have made him sick with bottles of wine; he stretched out his hand with scorners.
The princes are inflamed with wine on the day of our king; so he joins hands with those who
mock him.
Strangers have
devoured his strength, and he knoweth it not:
yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he knoweth not.
Foreigners
consume his strength, but he does not notice. Even
his hair is
streaked with gray, but he does not know.
And the pride of Israel testifieth to his face: and they do not return to the LORD their God, nor seek him for all this.
Israel’s
arrogance testifies against them, yet they do not return to the LORD their God;
despite all this, they do not seek Him.
Because Ephraim hath made many altars to sin, altars shall be unto him to sin.
Though Ephraim multiplied the altars for sin, they became
his altars for
sinning.
For Israel hath forgotten
his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied
fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon
his cities, and it shall
devour the palaces thereof.
Israel has forgotten
his Maker and built palaces; Judah has multiplied its fortified cities. But I will send fire upon their cities, and it will
consume their citadels.
The
watchman of Ephraim was with my God: but the prophet is a
snare of a fowler in all
his ways, and hatred in the house of
his God.
The prophet is Ephraim’s
watchman, along with my God, yet the
snare of the fowler lies on all
his paths. Hostility is in the house of
his God!
Ephraim, as I saw Tyrus, is planted in a pleasant place: but Ephraim shall bring forth his children to the murderer.
I have seen Ephraim, like Tyre, planted in a
meadow. But Ephraim will bring out
his children for slaughter.
Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images.
Israel was a
luxuriant vine, yielding fruit for himself. The more
his fruit increased, the more he increased the altars. The better
his land produced, the better he made the sacred pillars.
It shall be also carried unto Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be
ashamed of
his own counsel.
Yes, it will be carried to Assyria as tribute to the great king. Ephraim will be seized with shame; Israel will be
ashamed of its wooden idols.
And Ephraim is as an
heifer that is taught, and loveth to
tread out the corn; but I passed over upon her fair neck: I will make Ephraim to
ride; Judah shall
plow, and Jacob shall break
his clods.
Ephraim is a well-trained
heifer that loves to
thresh; but I will place a yoke on her fair neck. I will
harness Ephraim, Judah will
plow, and Jacob will break the hard ground.
He shall not return into the land of Egypt, but the Assyrian shall be his king, because they refused to return.
Will they not return to the land of Egypt and be ruled by Assyria because they refused to
repent?
And the sword shall
abide on
his cities, and shall
consume his branches, and
devour them, because of their own counsels.
A sword will
flash through their cities; it will destroy the bars of their gates and
consume them in their own plans.
They shall walk after the LORD: he shall
roar like a lion: when he shall
roar, then the children shall
tremble from the west.
They will walk after the LORD; He will
roar like a lion. When He roars,
His children will come
trembling from the west.
The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will
punish Jacob according to
his ways; according to
his doings will he
recompense him.
The LORD also brings a charge against Judah. He will
punish Jacob according to
his ways and repay him according to
his deeds.
He took
his brother by the
heel in the
womb, and by
his strength he had power with God:
Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he
wept, and made
supplication unto him: he found him in
Bethel, and there he spake with us;
Yes, he struggled with the angel and prevailed; he
wept and sought
His favor; he found Him at
Bethel and spoke with Him there—
Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is
his memorial.
the LORD is the God of Hosts— the LORD is
His name of
renown.
He is a merchant, the balances of
deceit are in
his hand: he loveth to
oppress.
Ephraim
provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave
his blood upon him, and
his reproach shall
his Lord return unto him.
Ephraim has
provoked bitter anger, so
his Lord will leave
his bloodguilt upon him and repay him for
his contempt.
The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up;
his sin is
hid.
The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is stored up.
Though he be fruitful among
his brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness, and
his spring shall become dry, and
his fountain shall be dried up: he shall
spoil the
treasure of all pleasant vessels.
Although he
flourishes among
his brothers, an east wind will come— a wind from the LORD rising up from the desert.
His fountain will fail, and
his spring will run dry. The wind will
plunder his treasury of every precious article.
I will be as the
dew unto Israel: he shall grow as the
lily, and cast forth
his roots as
Lebanon.
I will be like the
dew to Israel; he will
blossom like the
lily and take root like the cedars of
Lebanon.
His branches shall spread, and
his beauty shall be as the olive tree, and
his smell as
Lebanon.
They that dwell under
his shadow shall return; they shall revive as the corn, and grow as the vine: the
scent thereof shall be as the wine of
Lebanon.
They will return and dwell in
his shade; they will grow grain and
blossom like the vine.
His renown will be like the wine of
Lebanon.
They shall run like mighty men; they shall
climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march every one on
his ways, and they shall not break their ranks:
They charge like mighty men; they scale the walls like men of war. Each one marches in formation, not
swerving from the course.
Neither shall one thrust another; they shall walk every one in his path: and when they fall upon the sword, they shall not be wounded.
They do not
jostle one another; each proceeds in
his path. They
burst through the defenses, never breaking ranks.
And the LORD shall utter
his voice before
his army: for
his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth
his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can
abide it?
The LORD raises
His voice in the presence of
His army. Indeed,
His camp is very large, for mighty are those who obey
His command. For the Day of the LORD is great and very
dreadful. Who can
endure it?
Then will the LORD be
jealous for
his land, and
pity his people.
Then the LORD became
jealous for
His land, and He
spared His people.
Yea, the LORD will answer and say unto
his people, Behold, I will send you corn, and wine, and oil, and ye shall be satisfied
therewith: and I will no more make you a reproach among the heathen:
And the LORD answered His people: “Behold, I will send you grain, new wine, and oil, and by them you will be satisfied. I will never again make you a reproach among the nations.
But I will remove far off from you the northern army, and will drive him into a land barren and
desolate, with
his face toward the east sea, and
his hinder part toward the utmost sea, and
his stink shall come up, and
his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things.
The northern army I will drive away from you,
banishing it to a barren and
desolate land, its front ranks into the Eastern Sea, and its rear guard into the Western Sea. And its
stench will rise; its foul
odor will
ascend. For He has done great things.
The LORD also shall
roar out of
Zion, and utter
his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall
shake: but the LORD will be the hope of
his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.
The LORD will
roar from
Zion and raise
His voice from Jerusalem; heaven and earth will
tremble. But the LORD will be a refuge for
His people, a
stronghold for the people of Israel.
And he said, The LORD will
roar from
Zion, and utter
his voice from Jerusalem; and the habitations of the
shepherds shall
mourn, and the top of
Carmel shall wither.
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of
Edom, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue
his brother with the sword, and did cast off all
pity, and
his anger did
tear perpetually, and he kept
his wrath for ever:
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of
Edom, even four, I will not
revoke My judgment, because he pursued
his brother with the sword and
stifled all
compassion;
his anger
raged continually, and
his fury flamed
incessantly.
And their king shall go into captivity, he and his princes together, saith the LORD.
Their king will go into exile— he and his princes together,” says the LORD.
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have
despised the law of the LORD, and have not kept
his commandments, and their lies caused them to
err, after the which their fathers have walked:
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Judah, even four, I will not
revoke My judgment, because they
reject the Law of the LORD and fail to keep
His statutes; they are led
astray by the lies in which their fathers walked.
That
pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the
meek: and a man and
his father will go in unto the same
maid, to
profane my holy name:
They
trample on the heads of the poor as on the dust of the earth; they
push the
needy out of their way. A man and
his father have relations with the same
girl and so
profane My holy name.
Yet destroyed I the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath.
Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them, though his height was like that of the cedars, and he was as strong as the oaks. Yet I destroyed his fruit above and his roots below.
Therefore the flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not
strengthen his force, neither shall the mighty deliver himself:
Escape will fail the swift, the strong will not prevail by his strength, and the mighty will not save his life.
Neither shall he stand that handleth the bow; and he that is swift of foot shall not deliver himself: neither shall he that rideth the horse deliver himself.
The archer will not stand
his ground, the fleet of foot will not escape, and the
horseman will not save
his life.
Will a lion
roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of
his den, if he have taken nothing?
Does a lion
roar in the forest when he has no prey? Does a young lion
growl in
his den if he has caught nothing?
Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.
Surely the Lord GOD does nothing without
revealing His plan to
His servants the prophets.
The Lord GOD hath
sworn by
his holiness, that, lo, the days shall come upon you, that he will take you away with hooks, and your
posterity with fishhooks.
The Lord GOD has
sworn by
His holiness: “Behold, the days are coming when you will be taken away with hooks, and your
posterity with fishhooks.
For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, The LORD, The God of hosts, is his name.
For behold, He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind and reveals
His thoughts to man, who turns the
dawn to darkness and strides on the heights of the earth— the LORD, the God of Hosts, is
His name.”
Seek him that maketh the seven stars and
Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is
his name:
He who made the
Pleiades and
Orion, who turns darkness into
dawn and darkens day into night, who
summons the waters of the sea and pours them over the face of the earth— the LORD is
His name—
As if a man did
flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and
leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent
bit him.
It will be like a man who flees from a lion, only to
encounter a bear, or who enters
his house and rests
his hand against the wall, only to be
bitten by a
snake.
The Lord GOD hath
sworn by himself, saith the LORD the God of hosts, I
abhor the
excellency of Jacob, and
hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.
