And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the
pavement, and worshipped, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.
When all the
Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the LORD above the temple, they bowed down on the
pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave
thanks to the LORD: “For He is good; His loving devotion endures
forever.”
And the priests waited on their offices: the Levites also with instruments of musick of the LORD, which David the king had made to praise the LORD, because his mercy endureth for ever, when David praised by their ministry; and the priests sounded
trumpets before them, and all Israel stood.
The priests stood at their posts, as did the Levites with the musical instruments of the LORD, which King David had made for giving
thanks to the LORD and with which David had offered praise, saying, “For His loving devotion endures
forever.” Across from the Levites, the priests sounded
trumpets, and all the
Israelites were standing.
That the cities which Huram had restored to Solomon, Solomon built them, and caused the children of Israel to dwell there.
Solomon rebuilt the cities
Hiram had given him and settled
Israelites there.
But of their children, who were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel consumed not, them did Solomon make to pay tribute until this day.
their descendants who remained in the land, those whom the Israelites were unable to destroy—Solomon conscripted these people to be forced laborers, as they are to this day.
But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no servants for his work; but they were men of war, and chief of his captains, and captains of his
chariots and
horsemen.
But Solomon did not
consign any of the
Israelites to slave labor, because they were his men of war, his officers and captains, and the commanders of his
chariots and cavalry.
And when all Israel saw that the king would not
hearken unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and we have none inheritance in the son of
Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: and now, David, see to thine own house. So all Israel went to their tents.
When all Israel saw that the king had refused to
listen to them, they answered the king: “What portion do we have in David, and what inheritance in the son of
Jesse? To your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, O David!” So all the
Israelites went home,
But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah,
Rehoboam reigned over them.
but
Rehoboam still reigned over the
Israelites living in the cities of Judah.
Then king
Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was over the tribute; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. But king
Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his
chariot, to
flee to Jerusalem.
Then King
Rehoboam sent out Hadoram, who was in charge of the forced labor, but the
Israelites stoned him to death. And King
Rehoboam mounted his
chariot in
haste and escaped to Jerusalem.
Speak unto
Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,
“Tell
Rehoboam son of Solomon king of Judah and all the
Israelites in Judah and Benjamin
And the children of Israel fled before Judah: and God delivered them into their hand.
So the Israelites fled before Judah, and God delivered them into their hands.
Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they
relied upon the LORD God of their fathers.
Thus the
Israelites were subdued at that time, and the men of Judah prevailed because they
relied on the LORD, the God of their fathers.
Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of
Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
Moreover,
Ahaz burned incense in the Valley of
Hinnom and sacrificed his sons in the fire, according to the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the
Israelites.
And the children of Israel carried away
captive of their brethren two hundred thousand, women, sons, and daughters, and took also away much
spoil from them, and brought the
spoil to Samaria.
Then the
Israelites took 200,000
captives from their
kinsmen—women, sons, and daughters. They also carried off a great deal of
plunder and brought it to Samaria.
And the children of Israel that were present at Jerusalem kept the feast of
unleavened bread seven days with great
gladness: and the Levites and the priests praised the LORD day by day, singing with loud instruments unto the LORD.
The
Israelites who were present in Jerusalem celebrated the Feast of
Unleavened Bread for seven days with great joy, and the Levites and priests praised the LORD day after day, accompanied by loud instruments of praise to the LORD.
Now when all this was finished, all Israel that were present went out to the cities of Judah, and
brake the images in pieces, and cut down the groves, and threw down the high places and the altars out of all Judah and Benjamin, in Ephraim also and
Manasseh, until they had utterly destroyed them all. Then all the children of Israel returned, every man to his possession, into their own cities.
When all this had ended, the
Israelites in attendance went out to the cities of Judah and broke up the sacred pillars,
chopped down the Asherah poles, and
tore down the high places and altars throughout Judah and Benjamin, as well as in Ephraim and
Manasseh, until they had utterly destroyed them all. Then all the
Israelites returned to their cities, each to his own property.
And as soon as the commandment came abroad, the children of Israel brought in abundance the firstfruits of corn, wine, and oil, and honey, and of all the increase of the field; and the
tithe of all things brought they in abundantly.
As soon as the order went out, the
Israelites generously provided the firstfruits of the grain, new wine, oil, and honey, and of all the produce of the field, and they brought in an abundance—a
tithe of everything.
And concerning the children of Israel and Judah, that dwelt in the cities of Judah, they also brought in the
tithe of oxen and sheep, and the
tithe of holy things which were consecrated unto the LORD their God, and laid them by heaps.
And the
Israelites and Judahites who lived in the cities of Judah also brought a
tithe of their herds and flocks and a
tithe of the holy things consecrated to the LORD their God, and they laid them in large heaps.
But did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD by following the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
Neither will I any more remove the foot of Israel from out of the land which I have appointed for your fathers; so that they will take
heed to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses.
I will never again cause the feet of the Israelites to leave the land that I assigned to your fathers, if only they are careful to do all that I have commanded them through Moses—all the laws, statutes, and judgments.”
So
Manasseh made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to
err, and to do worse than the heathen, whom the LORD had destroyed before the children of Israel.
So
Manasseh led the people of Judah and Jerusalem
astray, so that they did greater evil than the nations that the LORD had destroyed before the
Israelites.
And
Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that
pertained to the children of Israel, and made all that were present in Israel to serve, even to serve the LORD their God. And all his days they departed not from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.
And
Josiah removed all the abominations from all the lands belonging to the
Israelites, and he required
everyone in Israel to serve the LORD their God. Throughout his reign they did not turn aside from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.
And the children of Israel that were present kept the
passover at that time, and the feast of
unleavened bread seven days.
The
Israelites who were present also observed the
Passover at that time, as well as the Feast of
Unleavened Bread for seven days.
And there was no
passover like to that kept in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet; neither did all the kings of Israel keep such a
passover as
Josiah kept, and the priests, and the Levites, and all Judah and Israel that were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
No such
Passover had been observed in Israel since the days of Samuel the prophet. None of the kings of Israel ever observed a
Passover like the one that
Josiah observed with the priests, the Levites, all Judah, the
Israelites who were present, and the people of Jerusalem.
So the priests, and the Levites, and some of the people, and the singers, and the
porters, and the
Nethinims, dwelt in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.
So the priests, the Levites, the singers, the gatekeepers, and the temple servants, along with some of the people, settled in their own towns; and the rest of the Israelites settled in their towns.
And when the seventh month was come, and the children of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one man to Jerusalem.
By the seventh month, the Israelites had settled in their towns, and the people assembled as one man in Jerusalem.
From the first day of the seventh month began they to offer burnt offerings unto the LORD. But the foundation of the temple of the LORD was not yet laid.
On the first day of the seventh month, the Israelites began to offer burnt offerings to the LORD, although the foundation of the temple of the LORD had not been laid.
And the children of Israel, which were come again out of captivity, and all such as had separated themselves unto them from the
filthiness of the heathen of the land, to seek the LORD God of Israel, did eat,
The
Israelites who had returned from exile
ate it, together with all who had separated themselves from the uncleanness of the peoples of the land to seek the LORD, the God of Israel.
And there went up some of the children of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the
porters, and the
Nethinims, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of
Artaxerxes the king.
So in the seventh year of King
Artaxerxes, he went up to Jerusalem with some of the
Israelites, including priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers, and temple servants.
I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and of his priests and Levites, in my realm, which are minded of their own
freewill to go up to Jerusalem, go with thee.
I
hereby decree that any
volunteers among the
Israelites in my kingdom, including the priests and Levites, may go up with you to Jerusalem.
And
weighed unto them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offering of the house of our God, which the king, and his counsellors, and his lords, and all Israel there present, had offered:
and I
weighed out to them the contribution of silver and gold and the articles that the king, his counselors, his leaders, and all the
Israelites there had offered for the house of our God.
For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands:
yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this
trespass.
Indeed, the Israelites have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, so that the holy seed has been mixed with the people of the land. And the leaders and officials have taken the lead in this unfaithfulness!”
Now when
Ezra had prayed, and when he had
confessed,
weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there assembled unto him out of Israel a very great congregation of men and women and children: for the people
wept very
sore.
While
Ezra prayed and made this confession,
weeping and falling facedown before the house of God, a very large assembly of
Israelites—men, women, and children—gathered around him, and the people
wept bitterly as well.
Moreover of Israel: of the sons of Parosh; Ramiah, and Jeziah, and Malchiah, and Miamin, and
Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah.
And among the other
Israelites, from the descendants of Parosh: Ramiah, Izziah, Malchijah, Mijamin,
Eleazar, Malchijah, and Benaiah.
Let thine ear now be
attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and
confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have
sinned against thee: both I and my father’s house have
sinned.
let Your eyes be open and Your ears
attentive to hear the prayer that I, Your servant, now pray before You day and night for Your servants, the
Israelites. I
confess the sins that we
Israelites have committed against You. Both I and my father’s house have
sinned.
But when
Sanballat the Horonite and
Tobiah the
Ammonite official heard about this, they were deeply disturbed that someone had come to seek the well-being of the
Israelites.
So the priests, and the Levites, and the
porters, and the singers, and some of the people, and the
Nethinims, and all Israel, dwelt in their cities; and when the seventh month came, the children of Israel were in their cities.
So the priests, Levites, gatekeepers, singers, and temple servants, along with some of the people and the rest of the Israelites, settled in their own towns. And by the seventh month the Israelites had settled in their towns.
And they found written in the law which the LORD had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month:
And they found written in the Law, which the LORD had commanded through Moses, that the Israelites were to dwell in booths during the feast of the seventh month.
And all the congregation of them that were come again out of the captivity made booths, and sat under the booths: for since the days of Jeshua the son of
Nun unto that day had not the children of Israel done so. And there was very great
gladness.
The whole assembly who had returned from exile made booths and lived in them. From the days of Joshua son of
Nun until that day, the
Israelites had not celebrated like this. And there was great
rejoicing.
Also day by day, from the first day unto the last day, he read in the book of the law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according unto the manner.
Day after day, from the first day to the last,
Ezra read from the Book of the Law of God. The
Israelites kept the feast for seven days, and on the eighth day they held an assembly, according to the
ordinance.
Now in the twenty and fourth day of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, and with sackclothes, and earth upon them.
On the twenty-fourth day of the same month, the
Israelites gathered together, fasting and wearing
sackcloth, with dust on their heads.
For the children of Israel and the children of Levi shall bring the offering of the corn, of the new wine, and the oil, unto the chambers, where are the vessels of the sanctuary, and the priests that minister, and the
porters, and the singers: and we will not
forsake the house of our God.
For the Israelites and the Levites are to bring the contributions of grain, new wine, and oil to the storerooms where the articles of the sanctuary are kept and where the ministering priests, the gatekeepers, and the singers stay. Thus we will not neglect the house of our God.”
Now these are the chief of the province that dwelt in Jerusalem: but in the cities of Judah dwelt every one in his possession in their cities, to wit, Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the
Nethinims, and the children of Solomon’s servants.
These are the heads of the provinces who settled in Jerusalem. (In the villages of Judah, however, each lived on his own property in their towns—the Israelites, priests, Levites, temple servants, and descendants of Solomon’s servants—
And the residue of Israel, of the priests, and the Levites, were in all the cities of Judah, every one in his inheritance.
The rest of the Israelites, with the priests and Levites, were in all the villages of Judah, each on his own inheritance.
Because they met not the children of Israel with bread and with water, but
hired Balaam against them, that he should
curse them:
howbeit our God turned the
curse into a blessing.
because they had not met the
Israelites with food and water, but had
hired Balaam to call down a
curse against them (although our God had turned the
curse into a blessing).
The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the
remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.
The fortress will disappear from Ephraim, and the sovereignty from Damascus. The
remnant of
Aram will be like the
splendor of the
Israelites,” declares the LORD of Hosts.
In that day shall his strong cities be as a
forsaken bough, and an
uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be
desolation.
In that day their strong cities will be like
forsaken thickets and summits, abandoned to the
Israelites and to utter
desolation.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall beat off from the channel of the river unto the stream of Egypt, and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye children of Israel.
In that day the LORD will
thresh from the flowing Euphrates to the Wadi of Egypt, and you, O
Israelites, will be gathered one by one.
And they shall bring all your brethren for an offering unto the LORD out of all nations upon horses, and in
chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, saith the LORD, as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the LORD.
And they will bring all your brothers from all the nations as a gift to the LORD on horses and
chariots and wagons, on mules and camels, to My holy mountain Jerusalem,” says the LORD, “just as the
Israelites bring an offering in a clean vessel to the house of the LORD.”
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be said, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
Yet behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when they will no longer say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of Egypt.’
But, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands
whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.
Instead they will say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of the north and all the other lands to which He had banished them.’ For I will return them to their land that I gave to their forefathers.
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that they shall no more say, The LORD liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
So behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when they will no longer say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of Egypt.’
And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a
rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have
transgressed against me, even unto this very day.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “I am sending you to the
Israelites, to a
rebellious nation that has rebelled against Me. To this very day they and their fathers have rebelled against Me.
And the LORD said, Even thus shall the children of Israel eat their
defiled bread among the Gentiles,
whither I will drive them.
Then the LORD said, “This is how the
Israelites will eat their
defiled bread among the nations to which I will
banish them.”
And I will lay the dead carcases of the children of Israel before their idols; and I will
scatter your bones round about your altars.
I will lay the corpses of the
Israelites before their idols and
scatter your bones around your altars.
Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred, and hast shed the blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their
calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end:
Because you
harbored an ancient hatred and delivered the
Israelites over to the sword in the time of their
disaster at the final stage of their punishment,
Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions:
“And you, son of man, take a single stick and write on it: ‘Belonging to Judah and to the Israelites associated with him.’ Then take another stick and write on it: ‘Belonging to Joseph—the stick of Ephraim—and to all the house of Israel associated with him.’
And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen,
whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land:
you are to tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I will take the Israelites out of the nations to which they have gone, and I will gather them from all around and bring them into their own land.
And he said unto me, Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever, and my holy name, shall the house of Israel no more
defile, neither they, nor their kings, by their
whoredom, nor by the carcases of their kings in their high places.
and He said to me, “Son of man, this is the place of My throne and the place for the soles of My feet, where I will dwell among the
Israelites forever. The house of Israel will never again
defile My holy name—neither they nor their kings—by their
prostitution and by the funeral offerings for their kings at their deaths.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; No stranger,
uncircumcised in heart, nor
uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter into my sanctuary, of any stranger that is among the children of Israel.
This is what the Lord GOD says: No foreigner
uncircumcised in heart and flesh may enter My sanctuary—not even a foreigner who lives among the
Israelites.
But the priests the Levites, the sons of
Zadok, that kept the charge of my sanctuary when the children of Israel went
astray from me, they shall come near to me to minister unto me, and they shall stand before me to offer unto me the fat and the blood, saith the Lord GOD:
But the
Levitical priests, who are descended from
Zadok and who kept charge of My sanctuary when the
Israelites went
astray from Me, are to approach Me to minister before Me. They will stand before Me to offer Me fat and blood, declares the Lord GOD.
And it shall come to pass, that ye shall divide it by lot for an inheritance unto you, and to the strangers that
sojourn among you, which shall
beget children among you: and they shall be unto you as born in the country among the children of Israel; they shall have inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel.
You shall
allot it as an inheritance for
yourselves and for the foreigners who dwell among you and who have children. You are to treat them as native-born
Israelites; along with you, they shall be
allotted an inheritance among the tribes of Israel.
It shall be for the priests that are
sanctified of the sons of
Zadok; which have kept my charge, which went not
astray when the children of Israel went
astray, as the Levites went
astray.
It will be for the consecrated priests, the descendants of
Zadok, who kept My charge and did not go
astray as the Levites did when the
Israelites went
astray.
And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes;
Then the king ordered Ashpenaz, the chief of his court officials, to bring in some Israelites from the royal family and the nobility—
Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God.
Yet the number of the Israelites will be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or counted. And it will happen that in the very place where it was said to them, ‘You are not My people,’ they will be called ‘sons of the living God.’
Then said the LORD unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an
adulteress, according to the love of the LORD toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine.
Then the LORD said to me, “Go show love to your wife again, though she is loved by another and is an
adulteress. Love her as the LORD loves the
Israelites, though they turn to other gods and offer
raisin cakes to idols.”
For the children of Israel shall
abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an
ephod, and without
teraphim:
For the
Israelites must live many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred
pillar, and without
ephod or
idol.
Thus saith the LORD; As the
shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damascus in a
couch.
This is what the LORD says: “As the
shepherd snatches from the mouth of the lion two legs or a piece of an ear, so the
Israelites dwelling in Samaria will be
rescued having just the corner of a bed or the
cushion of a
couch.
And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel shall possess that of the
Canaanites, even unto Zarephath; and the captivity of Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the south.
And the exiles of this host of the
Israelites will possess the land of the
Canaanites as far as Zarephath; and the exiles from Jerusalem who are in Sepharad will possess the cities of the Negev.
And the next day he shewed himself unto them as they
strove, and would have set them at one again, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another?
The next day he came upon two
Israelites who were fighting, and he tried to
reconcile them, saying, ‘Men, you are brothers. Why are you mistreating each other?’
This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear.
This is the same Moses who told the Israelites, ‘God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers.’
Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;
the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption as sons; theirs the divine glory and the covenants; theirs the giving of the law, the temple worship, and the promises.
Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a
remnant shall be saved:
Isaiah
cries out concerning Israel: “Though the number of the
Israelites is like the sand of the sea, only the
remnant will be saved.
Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.
Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is for their salvation.
But if the
ministration of death, written and
engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not
stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
Now if the ministry of death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the
Israelites could not
gaze at the face of Moses because of its fleeting glory,
And not as Moses, which put a
vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not
stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
We are not like Moses, who would put a
veil over his face to keep the
Israelites from
gazing at the end of what was
fading away.
Are they Hebrews? so am I. Are they Israelites? so am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? so am I.
Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they descendants of Abraham? So am I.
By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.
By faith Joseph, when his end was near, spoke about the exodus of the Israelites and gave instructions about his bones.
But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of
Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit
fornication.
But I have a few things against you, because some of you hold to the teaching of
Balaam, who taught Balak to place a
stumbling block before the
Israelites so they would eat food sacrificed to idols and commit sexual immorality.
But the Israelites descended from their city, and came unto him, and loosed him, and brought him to Bethulia, and presented him to the governors of the city:
O Lord
Almighty, thou God of Israel, hear now the prayers of the dead
Israelites, and of their children, which have
sinned before thee, and not
hearkened unto the voice of thee their God: for the which cause these plagues
cleave unto us.
Yea, many also of the
Israelites consented to his religion, and sacrificed unto idols, and
profaned the sabbath.
And drove the
Israelites into secret places, even
wheresoever they could
flee for succour.
Thus did they by their authority unto the Israelites every month, to as many as were found in the cities.
Wherefore the
Israelites assembled themselves together, and came to Maspha, over against Jerusalem; for in Maspha was the place where they prayed
aforetime in Israel.
Then the heathen that were at Galaad assembled themselves together against the Israelites that were in their quarters, to destroy them; but they fled to the fortress of Dathema.
Then
Judas gathered together all the
Israelites that were in the country of Galaad, from the least unto the greatest, even their wives, and their children, and their stuff, a very great host, to the end they might come into the land of
Judea.
About this time they that were in the tower shut up the
Israelites round about the sanctuary, and sought always their
hurt, and the
strengthening of the heathen.
Now when
Judas saw all the mischief that Alcimus and his company had done among the
Israelites, even above the heathen,
