And the children of Israel came near against the children of Benjamin the second day.
On the second day the Israelites advanced against the Benjamites.
And Benjamin went forth against them out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Israel again eighteen thousand men; all these drew the sword.
That same day the Benjamites came out against them from Gibeah and cut down another 18,000 Israelites, all of them armed with swords.
Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto the house of God, and
wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day until even, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
Then the
Israelites, all the people, went up to
Bethel, where they sat
weeping before the LORD. That day they fasted until evening and presented burnt offerings and peace offerings to the LORD.
And the children of Israel enquired of the LORD, (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,
And the Israelites inquired of the LORD. (In those days the ark of the covenant of God was there,
And
Phinehas, the son of
Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days,) saying, Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease? And the LORD said, Go up; for to
morrow I will deliver them into thine hand.
and
Phinehas son of
Eleazar, the son of Aaron, served before it.) The
Israelites asked, “Should we again go out to battle against our brothers the Benjamites, or should we stop?” The LORD answered, “Fight, for
tomorrow I will deliver them into your hand.”
And the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and put themselves in
array against Gibeah, as at other times.
On the third day the
Israelites went up against the Benjamites and
arrayed themselves against Gibeah as they had done before.
And the children of Benjamin said, They are
smitten down before us, as at the first. But the children of Israel said, Let us
flee, and draw them from the city unto the
highways.
“We are defeating them as before,” said the Benjamites. But the
Israelites said, “Let us retreat and draw them away from the city
onto the roads.”
And all the men of Israel rose up out of their place, and put themselves in
array at
Baal-tamar: and the liers in wait of Israel came forth out of their places, even out of the meadows of Gibeah.
So all the men of Israel got up from their places and
arrayed themselves at
Baal-tamar, and the
Israelites in
ambush charged from their positions west of Gibeah.

anyone who failed to come up before the LORD at
Mizpah would surely be put to death.
And the children of Israel
repented them for Benjamin their brother, and said, There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day.
And the
Israelites grieved for their brothers, the Benjamites, and said, “
Today a tribe is cut off from Israel.
Howbeit we may not give them wives of our daughters: for the children of Israel have
sworn, saying,
Cursed be he that giveth a wife to Benjamin.
But we cannot give them our daughters as wives.” For the
Israelites had
sworn, “
Cursed is he who gives a wife to a
Benjamite.”
And the children of Israel departed thence at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they went out from thence every man to his inheritance.
And at that time, each of the Israelites returned from there to his own tribe and clan, each to his own inheritance.
And he struck it into the pan, or
kettle, or
caldron, or pot; all that the
fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in
Shiloh unto all the
Israelites that came thither.
and
plunge it into the pan or
kettle or cauldron or
cooking pot. And the priest would claim for himself whatever the meat
fork brought up. This is how they treated all the
Israelites who came to
Shiloh.
And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an
ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?
And out of all the tribes of Israel I selected your father to be My priest, to offer sacrifices on My altar, to burn incense, and to wear an
ephod in My presence. I also gave to the house of your father all the offerings of the
Israelites made by fire.
And the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out against the Philistines to battle, and pitched beside Eben-ezer: and the Philistines pitched in Aphek.
Thus the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now the
Israelites went out to meet the Philistines in battle and camped at
Ebenezer, while the Philistines camped at Aphek.
And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel
shouted with a great
shout, so that the earth
rang again.
When the ark of the covenant of the LORD entered the camp, all the
Israelites raised such a great
shout that it
shook the ground.
Then the children of Israel did put away
Baalim and
Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only.
So the Israelites put away the Baals and Ashtoreths and served only the LORD.
And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have
sinned against the LORD. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.
When they had gathered at
Mizpah, they drew water and poured it out before the LORD. On that day they fasted, and there they
confessed, “We have
sinned against the LORD.” And Samuel judged the
Israelites at
Mizpah.
And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.
When the Philistines heard that the
Israelites had gathered at
Mizpah, their rulers marched up toward Israel. And when the
Israelites learned of this, they feared the Philistines
And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from
Ekron even unto
Gath; and the coasts thereof did Israel deliver out of the hands of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the
Amorites.
The cities from
Ekron to
Gath, which the Philistines had taken, were restored to Israel, who also delivered the surrounding territory from the hand of the Philistines. And there was peace between the
Israelites and the
Amorites.
And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people.
And he had a son named Saul, choice and handsome, without equal among the Israelites—a head taller than any of the people.
And said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, and of them that
oppressed you:
and said to the
Israelites, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘I brought Israel up out of Egypt, and I
rescued you from the hands of the Egyptians and of all the kingdoms that
oppressed you.’
And when he numbered them in Bezek, the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.
And when Saul numbered them at Bezek, there were 300,000 Israelites and 30,000 men of Judah.
And all the people went to
Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the LORD in
Gilgal; and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings before the LORD; and there Saul and all the men of Israel
rejoiced greatly.
So all the people went to
Gilgal and confirmed Saul as king in the presence of the LORD. There they sacrificed peace offerings before the LORD, and Saul and all the
Israelites rejoiced greatly.
But all the
Israelites went down to the Philistines, to
sharpen every man his share, and his
coulter, and his
axe, and his
mattock.
Instead, all the
Israelites would go down to the Philistines to
sharpen their plowshares, mattocks, axes, and sickles.
And Saul said unto Ahiah, Bring
hither the ark of God. For the ark of God was at that time with the children of Israel.
Then Saul said to
Ahijah, “Bring the ark of God.” (For at that time it was with the
Israelites.)
Moreover the Hebrews that were with the Philistines before that time, which went up with them into the camp from the country round about, even they also turned to be with the
Israelites that were with Saul and
Jonathan.
And the Hebrews who had previously gone up into the surrounding camps of the Philistines now went over to the
Israelites who were with Saul and
Jonathan.
Likewise all the men of Israel which had
hid themselves in mount Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, even they also followed hard after them in the battle.
When all the
Israelites who had been hiding in the hill country of Ephraim heard that the Philistines were
fleeing, they also joined Saul and
Jonathan in the battle.
That day, after the
Israelites had struck down the Philistines from
Michmash to
Aijalon, the people were very
faint.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘I witnessed what the
Amalekites did to the
Israelites when they
ambushed them on their way up from Egypt.
And Saul said unto the
Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the
Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for ye shewed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the
Kenites departed from among the
Amalekites.
And he
warned the
Kenites, “Since you showed kindness to all the
Israelites when they came up out of Egypt, go on and get away from the
Amalekites. Otherwise I will
sweep you away with them.” So the
Kenites moved away from the
Amalekites.
And the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them.
The Philistines stood on one hill and the Israelites stood on another, with the valley between them.
When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the
Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
On hearing the words of the
Philistine, Saul and all the
Israelites were dismayed and greatly afraid.
And the children of Israel returned from
chasing after the Philistines, and they
spoiled their tents.
When the
Israelites returned from their pursuit of the Philistines, they
plundered their camps.
And Samuel died; and all the
Israelites were gathered together, and
lamented him, and buried him in his house at
Ramah. And David arose, and went down to the wilderness of
Paran.
When Samuel died, all Israel gathered to
mourn for him; and they buried him at his home in
Ramah. Then David set out and went down to the Wilderness of
Paran.
Now the Philistines gathered together all their armies to Aphek: and the
Israelites pitched by a fountain which is in
Jezreel.
Now the Philistines brought all their forces together at Aphek, while Israel camped by the spring in
Jezreel.
And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they
forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
When the Israelites along the valley and those on the other side of the Jordan saw that the army of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons had died, they abandoned their cities and ran away. So the Philistines came and occupied their cities.
And when Saul’s son heard that
Abner was dead in
Hebron, his hands were feeble, and all the
Israelites were troubled.
Now when
Ish-bosheth son of Saul heard that
Abner had died in
Hebron, he lost courage, and all Israel was dismayed.
Whereas I have not dwelt in any house since the time that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle.
For I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt until this day, but I have moved about with a tent as My dwelling.
In all the places wherein I have walked with all the children of Israel spake I a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people Israel, saying, Why build ye not me an house of
cedar?
In all My journeys with all the
Israelites, have I ever asked any of the leaders I appointed to
shepherd My people Israel, ‘Why
haven’t you built Me a house of
cedar?’
And on this manner did
Absalom to all Israel that came to the king for judgment: so
Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.
Absalom did this to all the
Israelites who came to the king for justice. In this way he
stole the hearts of the men of Israel.
And they took
Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the wood, and laid a very great
heap of stones upon him: and all Israel fled every one to his tent.
They took
Absalom, cast him into a large pit in the forest, and piled a huge
mound of stones over him. Meanwhile, all the
Israelites fled, each to his home.
Then the king arose, and sat in the gate. And they told unto all the people, saying, Behold, the king
doth sit in the gate. And all the people came before the king: for Israel had fled every man to his tent.
So the king got up and sat in the gate, and all the people were told: “Behold, the king is sitting in the gate.” So they all came before the king. Meanwhile, the Israelites had fled, each man to his home.
And the king called the Gibeonites, and said unto them; (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the
remnant of the
Amorites; and the children of Israel had
sworn unto them: and Saul sought to
slay them in his zeal to the children of Israel and Judah.)
At this, David summoned the Gibeonites and spoke to them. (Now the Gibeonites were not
Israelites, but a
remnant of the
Amorites. The
Israelites had taken an oath concerning them, but in his zeal for Israel and Judah, Saul had sought to kill them.)
And it came to pass in the four hundred and
eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month
Zif, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD.
In the four hundred and
eightieth year after the
Israelites had come out of the land of Egypt, in the month of Ziv, the second month of the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, he began to build the house of the LORD.
And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not
forsake my people Israel.
And I will dwell among the
Israelites and will not
abandon My people Israel.”
Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto king Solomon in Jerusalem, that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is
Zion.
At that time Solomon assembled before him in Jerusalem the elders of Israel—all the
tribal heads and family leaders of the
Israelites—to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from
Zion, the City of David.
There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at
Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.
There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets that Moses had placed in it at
Horeb, where the LORD had made a covenant with the
Israelites after they had come out of the land of Egypt.
And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered unto the LORD, two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of the LORD.
And Solomon offered as peace offerings to the LORD 22,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep. So the king and all the Israelites dedicated the house of the LORD.
Their children that were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel also were not able utterly to destroy, upon those did Solomon
levy a tribute of
bondservice unto this day.
their descendants who remained in the land, those whom the
Israelites were unable to
devote to destruction—Solomon conscripted these people to be forced laborers, as they are to this day.
But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no
bondmen: but they were men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and his captains, and rulers of his
chariots, and his
horsemen.
But Solomon did not
consign any of the
Israelites to slavery, because they were his men of war, his servants, his officers, his captains, and the commanders of his
chariots and cavalry.
Of the nations concerning which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon
clave unto these in love.
These women were from the nations about which the LORD had told the
Israelites, “You must not
intermarry with them, for surely they will turn your hearts after their gods.” Yet Solomon
clung to these women in love.
So when all Israel saw that the king
hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of
Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.
When all Israel saw that the king had refused to
listen to them, they answered the king: “What portion do we have in David, and what inheritance in the son of
Jesse? To your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, O David!” So the
Israelites went home,
But as for the children of Israel which dwelt in the cities of Judah,
Rehoboam reigned over them.
but
Rehoboam still reigned over the
Israelites living in the cities of Judah.
Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house; for this thing is from me. They
hearkened therefore to the word of the LORD, and returned to depart, according to the word of the LORD.
that this is what the LORD says: ‘You are not to go up and fight against your brothers, the
Israelites. Each of you must return home, for this word is from Me.’” So they
listened to the word of the LORD and turned back according to the word of the LORD.
So he offered upon the altar which he had made in
Bethel the
fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel: and he offered upon the altar, and burnt incense.
On the
fifteenth day of the eighth month, a month of his own choosing,
Jeroboam offered sacrifices on the altar he had set up in
Bethel. So he ordained a feast for the
Israelites, offered sacrifices on the altar, and burned incense.
And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.
There were even male
shrine prostitutes in the land. They imitated all the abominations of the nations the LORD had driven out before the
Israelites.
And Omri went up from Gibbethon, and all Israel with him, and they besieged Tirzah.
Then Omri and all the Israelites marched up from Gibbethon and besieged Tirzah.
So
Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount
Carmel.
So
Ahab summoned all the
Israelites and assembled the prophets on Mount
Carmel.
And he said, I have been very
jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have
forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
“I have been very
zealous for the LORD, the God of Hosts,” he replied, “but the
Israelites have
forsaken Your covenant,
torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I am the only one left, and they are seeking my life as well.”
And he said, I have been very
jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have
forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
“I have been very
zealous for the LORD, the God of Hosts,” he replied, “but the
Israelites have
forsaken Your covenant,
torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I am the only one left, and they are seeking my life as well.”
And they
slew every one his man: and the Syrians fled; and Israel pursued them: and Ben-
hadad the king of Syria escaped on an horse with the
horsemen.
and each one struck down his
opponent. So the Arameans fled, with the
Israelites in pursuit. But Ben-
hadad king of
Aram escaped on
horseback with the cavalry.
And number thee an army, like the army that thou hast lost, horse for horse, and
chariot for
chariot: and we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. And he
hearkened unto their voice, and did so.
And you must raise an army like the one you have lost—horse for horse and
chariot for
chariot—so we can fight the
Israelites on the plain, where we will surely prevail.” And the king approved their plan and acted accordingly.
And the children of Israel were numbered, and were all present, and went against them: and the children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country.
The
Israelites also
mobilized, gathered supplies, and marched out to meet them. The
Israelites camped before them like two small flocks of goats, while the Arameans covered the
countryside.
And they pitched one over against the other seven days. And so it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined: and the children of Israel
slew of the Syrians an hundred thousand
footmen in one day.
For seven days the armies camped opposite each other, and on the seventh day the battle
ensued, and the
Israelites struck down the Arameans—a hundred thousand foot soldiers in one day.
And he did very
abominably in following idols, according to all things as did the
Amorites, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.
He committed the most
detestable acts by going after idols, just like the
Amorites whom the LORD had driven out before the
Israelites.)
And when they came to the camp of Israel, the
Israelites rose up and
smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them: but they went forward
smiting the Moabites, even in their country.
But when the Moabites came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and attacked them, and they fled before them. So the Israelites invaded their land and struck down the Moabites.
Then he took his eldest son that should have reigned in his
stead, and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. And there was great
indignation against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.
So he took his
firstborn son, who was to succeed him, and offered him as a burnt offering on the city wall. And there was great
fury against the
Israelites, so they withdrew and returned to their own land.
And one of his servants answered and said, Let some take, I pray thee, five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city, (behold, they are as all the multitude of Israel that are left in it: behold, I say, they are even as all the multitude of the Israelites that are consumed:) and let us send and see.
But one of his servants replied, “Please, have scouts take five of the horses that remain in the city. Their
plight will be no worse than all the
Israelites who are left here. You can see that all the
Israelites here are
doomed. So let us send them and find out.”
And
Hazael said, Why weepeth my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that thou
wilt do unto the children of Israel: their strong holds
wilt thou set on fire, and their young men
wilt thou
slay with the sword, and
wilt dash their children, and
rip up their women with child.
“Why is my lord
weeping?” asked
Hazael. “Because I know the evil you will do to the
Israelites,”
Elisha replied. “You will set fire to their fortresses, kill their young men with the sword,
dash their little ones to pieces, and
rip open their
pregnant women.”
In those days the LORD began to cut Israel short: and
Hazael smote them in all the coasts of Israel;
In those days the LORD began to reduce the size of Israel.
Hazael defeated the
Israelites throughout their territory
And it came to pass, as they were
burying a man, that, behold, they
spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the
sepulchre of
Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of
Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.
Once, as the
Israelites were
burying a man, suddenly they saw a band of raiders, so they threw the man’s body into
Elisha’s tomb. And as soon as his body touched the bones of
Elisha, the man was revived and stood up on his feet.
For the LORD saw the
affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel.
For the LORD saw that the
affliction of the
Israelites, both slave and free, was very bitter. There was no one to help Israel,
But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel,
yea, and made his son to pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel.
Instead, he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel and even sacrificed his son in the fire, according to the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.
In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria and carried away the Israelites to Assyria, where he settled them in Halah, in Gozan by the Habor River, and in the cities of the Medes.
And walked in the statutes of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made.
and walked in the customs of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites, as well as in the practices introduced by the kings of Israel.
And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the LORD their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the
watchmen to the
fenced city.
The
Israelites secretly did things against the LORD their God that were not right. From
watchtower to fortified city, they built high places in all their cities.
For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of
Jeroboam which he did; they departed not from them;
The
Israelites persisted in all the sins that
Jeroboam had committed and did not turn away from them.
And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from
Ava, and from
Hamath, and from
Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel: and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.
Then the king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, Cuthah, Avva,
Hamath, and
Sepharvaim and settled them in the towns of Samaria to replace the
Israelites. They took possession of Samaria and lived in its towns.
With whom the LORD had made a covenant, and charged them saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow
yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them:
For the LORD had made a covenant with the Israelites and commanded them, “Do not worship other gods or bow down to them; do not serve them or sacrifice to them.
He removed the high places, and
brake the images, and cut down the groves, and
brake in pieces the
brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it
Nehushtan.
He removed the high places,
shattered the sacred pillars, and cut down the Asherah poles. He also
demolished the bronze
snake called
Nehushtan that Moses had made, for up to that time the
Israelites had burned incense to it.
And the king of Assyria did carry away Israel unto Assyria, and put them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes:
The king of Assyria exiled the Israelites to Assyria and settled them in Halah, in Gozan by the Habor River, and in the cities of the Medes.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD by following the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
Neither will I make the feet of Israel move any more out of the land which I gave their fathers; only if they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them.
I will never again cause the feet of the
Israelites to
wander from the land that I gave to their fathers, if only they are careful to do all I have commanded them—the whole Law that My servant Moses commanded them.”
But they
hearkened not: and
Manasseh seduced them to do more evil than did the nations whom the LORD destroyed before the children of Israel.
But the people did not
listen and
Manasseh led them
astray, so that they did greater evil than the nations that the LORD had destroyed before the
Israelites.
Now these are the kings that reigned in the land of
Edom before any king reigned over the children of Israel;
Bela the son of Beor: and the name of his city was Dinhabah.
These are the kings who reigned in the land of
Edom before any king reigned over the
Israelites:
Bela son of Beor. His city was named Dinhabah.
And the children of Israel gave to the Levites these cities with their suburbs.
So the Israelites gave to the Levites these cities and their pasturelands.
Now the first inhabitants that dwelt in their possessions in their cities were, the
Israelites, the priests, Levites, and the
Nethinims.
Now the first to resettle their own property in their cities were Israelites, priests, Levites, and temple servants.
And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then they
forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
When all the Israelites in the valley saw that the army had fled and that Saul and his sons had died, they abandoned their cities and ran away. So the Philistines came and occupied their cities.
And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is
Jebus; where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the land.
Then David and all the
Israelites marched to Jerusalem (that is,
Jebus), where the Jebusites inhabited the land.
All these men of war, that could keep rank, came with a perfect heart to
Hebron, to make David king over all Israel: and all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to make David king.
All these men of war,
arrayed for battle, came to
Hebron fully determined to make David king over all Israel. And all the rest of the
Israelites were of one mind to make David king.
And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, and with singing, and with harps, and with
psalteries, and with
timbrels, and with cymbals, and with
trumpets.
David and all the
Israelites were
celebrating before God with all their might, with songs and on harps and lyres, with tambourines, cymbals, and
trumpets.
Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedars?
In all My journeys with all the
Israelites, have I ever asked any of the leaders I appointed to
shepherd My people, ‘Why
haven’t you built Me a house of
cedar?’
And David said to
Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer-
sheba even to
Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it.
So David said to
Joab and the commanders of the troops, “Go and count the
Israelites from
Beersheba to
Dan and bring me a report, so that I may know their number.”

Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is
Zion.
At that time Solomon assembled in Jerusalem the elders of Israel—all the
tribal heads and family leaders of the
Israelites—to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from
Zion, the City of David.
There was nothing in the ark save the two tables which Moses put therein at
Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt.
There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets that Moses had placed in it at
Horeb, where the LORD had made a covenant with the
Israelites after they had come out of Egypt.
