Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the
sinew which
shrank, which is upon the hollow of the
thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s
thigh in the
sinew that
shrank.
Therefore to this day the
Israelites do not eat the
tendon which is at the
socket of the
hip, because the
socket of Jacob’s
hip was struck near that
tendon.
And these are the kings that reigned in the land of
Edom, before there reigned any king over the children of Israel.
These are the kings who reigned in the land of
Edom before any king reigned over the
Israelites:
And Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of
Goshen; and they had possessions therein, and grew, and multiplied exceedingly.
Now the
Israelites settled in the land of Egypt, in the region of
Goshen. They acquired property there and became fruitful and increased greatly in number.
And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.
but the Israelites were fruitful and increased rapidly; they multiplied and became exceedingly numerous, so that the land was filled with them.
And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we:
“Look,” he said to his people, “the Israelites have become too numerous and too powerful for us.
Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to
afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh
treasure cities,
Pithom and Raamses.
So the Egyptians appointed taskmasters over the
Israelites to
oppress them with forced labor. As a result, they built
Pithom and
Rameses as store cities for Pharaoh.
But the more they
afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were
grieved because of the children of Israel.
But the more they were
oppressed, the more they multiplied and flourished; so the Egyptians came to
dread the
Israelites.
And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour:
And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel
sighed by reason of the
bondage, and they
cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the
bondage.
After a long time, the king of Egypt died. The
Israelites groaned and
cried out under their burden of slavery, and their cry for
deliverance from
bondage ascended to God.
And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them.
God saw the Israelites and took notice.
Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression
wherewith the Egyptians
oppress them.
And now the cry of the
Israelites has reached Me, and I have seen how severely the Egyptians are
oppressing them.
Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
Therefore, go! I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring My people the Israelites out of Egypt.”
And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
But Moses asked God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”
And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?
Then Moses asked God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is His name?’ What should I tell them?”
And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my
memorial unto all generations.
God also told Moses, “Say to the
Israelites, ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This is My name
forever, and this is how I am to be remembered in every generation.
And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel:
Then Moses and Aaron went and assembled all the elders of the Israelites,
And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their
affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.
and they believed. And when they heard that the LORD had attended to the
Israelites and had seen their
affliction, they bowed down and worshiped.
And I have also heard the
groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in
bondage; and I have remembered my covenant.
Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their
bondage, and I will
redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:
Therefore tell the
Israelites: ‘I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians and deliver you from their
bondage. I will
redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment.
And Moses spake so unto the children of Israel: but they
hearkened not unto Moses for
anguish of spirit, and for cruel
bondage.
Moses relayed this message to the
Israelites, but on account of their broken spirit and cruel
bondage, they did not
listen to him.
Go in, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land.
“Go and tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the Israelites go out of his land.”
And Moses spake before the LORD, saying, Behold, the children of Israel have not
hearkened unto me; how then shall Pharaoh hear me, who am of
uncircumcised lips?
But in the LORD’s presence Moses replied, “If the
Israelites will not
listen to me, then why would Pharaoh
listen to me, since I am unskilled in speech?”
And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, and gave them a charge unto the children of Israel, and unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt.
Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron and gave them a charge concerning both the Israelites and Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the Israelites out of the land of Egypt.
These are that Aaron and Moses, to whom the LORD said, Bring out the children of Israel from the land of Egypt according to their armies.
It was this Aaron and Moses to whom the LORD said, “Bring the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by their divisions.”
These are they which spake to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring out the children of Israel from Egypt: these are that Moses and Aaron.
Moses and Aaron were the ones who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt in order to bring the Israelites out of Egypt.
Thou shalt speak all that I command thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land.
You are to speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron is to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go out of his land.
But Pharaoh shall not
hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.
Pharaoh will not
listen to you. Then I will lay My hand on Egypt, and by mighty acts of judgment I will bring the divisions of My people the
Israelites out of the land of Egypt.
And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them.
And the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD, when I stretch out My hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out from among them.”
And the LORD shall
sever between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt: and there shall nothing die of all that is the children’s of Israel.
But the LORD will make a distinction between the
livestock of Israel and the
livestock of Egypt, so that no animal belonging to the
Israelites will die.’”
And the LORD did that thing on the
morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died: but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one.
And the next day the LORD did just that. All the
livestock of the Egyptians died, but not one animal belonging to the
Israelites died.
And Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not one of the cattle of the
Israelites dead. And the heart of Pharaoh was
hardened, and he did not let the people go.
Pharaoh sent officials and found that none of the
livestock of the
Israelites had died. But Pharaoh’s heart was
hardened, and he would not let the people go.
Only in the land of
Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no
hail.
The only place where it did not
hail was in the land of
Goshen, where the
Israelites lived.
And the heart of Pharaoh was
hardened, neither would he let the children of Israel go; as the LORD had spoken by Moses.
So Pharaoh’s heart was
hardened, and he would not let the
Israelites go, just as the LORD had said through Moses.
But the LORD
hardened Pharaoh’s heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go.
But the LORD
hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he would not let the
Israelites go.
They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.
No one could see
anyone else, and for three days no one left his place. Yet all the
Israelites had light in their dwellings.
But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD
doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.
But among all the
Israelites, not even a dog will
snarl at man or beast.’ Then you will know that the LORD makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.
And Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh: and the LORD
hardened Pharaoh’s heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go out of his land.
Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh, but the LORD
hardened Pharaoh’s heart so that he would not let the
Israelites go out of his land.
That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the LORD’S
passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he
smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.
you are to reply, ‘It is the
Passover sacrifice to the LORD, who passed over the houses of the
Israelites in Egypt when He struck down the Egyptians and
spared our homes.’” Then the people bowed down and worshiped.
And the children of Israel went away, and did as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.
And the Israelites went and did just what the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron.
And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, and get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve the LORD, as ye have said.
Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron by night and said, “Get up, leave my people, both you and the Israelites! Go, worship the LORD as you have requested.
And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they borrowed of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and
raiment:
Furthermore, the
Israelites acted on Moses’ word and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold, and for clothing.
And the children of Israel journeyed from
Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot that were men, beside children.
The
Israelites journeyed from
Rameses to Succoth with about 600,000 men on foot, besides women and children.
Now the
sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years.
Now the duration of the Israelites’ stay in Egypt was 430 years.
It is a night to be much observed unto the LORD for bringing them out from the land of Egypt: this is that night of the LORD to be observed of all the children of Israel in their generations.
Because the LORD kept a
vigil that night to bring them out of the land of Egypt, this same night is to be a
vigil to the LORD, to be observed by all the
Israelites for the generations to come.
Thus did all the children of Israel; as the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.
Then all the Israelites did this—they did just as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron.
And it came to pass the
selfsame day, that the LORD did bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their armies.
And on that very day the LORD brought the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by their divisions.
But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up
harnessed out of the land of Egypt.
So God led the people around by the way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea. And the
Israelites left the land of Egypt
arrayed for battle.
Speak unto the children of Israel, that they turn and
encamp before
Pi-hahiroth, between
Migdol and the sea, over against
Baal-zephon: before it shall ye
encamp by the sea.
“Tell the
Israelites to turn back and
encamp before
Pi-hahiroth, between
Migdol and the sea. You are to
encamp by the sea, directly opposite
Baal-zephon.
For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, They are
entangled in the land, the wilderness hath shut them in.
For Pharaoh will say of the Israelites, ‘They are wandering the land in confusion; the wilderness has boxed them in.’
And I will
harden Pharaoh’s heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the LORD. And they did so.
And I will
harden Pharaoh’s heart so that he will pursue them. But I will gain honor by means of Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD.” So this is what the
Israelites did.
And the LORD
hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel: and the children of Israel went out with an high hand.
And the LORD
hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt so that he pursued the
Israelites, who were marching out defiantly.
But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and
chariots of Pharaoh, and his
horsemen, and his army, and overtook them
encamping by the sea, beside
Pi-hahiroth, before
Baal-zephon.
The Egyptians—all Pharaoh’s horses and
chariots,
horsemen and troops—pursued the
Israelites and overtook them as they camped by the sea near
Pi-hahiroth, opposite
Baal-zephon.
And when Pharaoh drew
nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were
sore afraid: and the children of Israel
cried out unto the LORD.
As Pharaoh approached, the
Israelites looked up and saw the Egyptians marching after them, and they were
terrified and
cried out to the LORD.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the Israelites to go forward.
But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.
And as for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.
And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on their right and on their left.
And took off their
chariot wheels, that they
drave them
heavily: so that the Egyptians said, Let us
flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians.
He caused their
chariot wheels to
wobble, so that they had difficulty driving. “Let us
flee from the
Israelites,” said the Egyptians, “for the LORD is fighting for them against Egypt!”
And the waters returned, and covered the
chariots, and the
horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.
The waters flowed back and covered the
chariots and
horsemen—the entire army of Pharaoh that had
chased the
Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived.
But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
But the Israelites had walked through the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on their right and on their left.
Then
sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
Then Moses and the
Israelites sang this song to the LORD: “I will sing to the LORD, for He is highly
exalted. The horse and rider He has thrown into the sea.
For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his
chariots and with his
horsemen into the sea, and the LORD brought again the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea.
For when Pharaoh’s horses,
chariots, and
horsemen went into the sea, the LORD brought the waters of the sea back over them. But the
Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground.
And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt:
So Moses and Aaron said to all the Israelites, “This evening you will know that it was the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt,
I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.
“I have heard the
grumbling of the
Israelites. Tell them, ‘At
twilight you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be filled with bread. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God.’”
And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is
manna: for they
wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat.
When the Israelites saw it, they asked one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. So Moses told them, “It is the bread that the LORD has given you to eat.
And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less.
So the Israelites did this. Some gathered more, and some less.
And the children of Israel did eat
manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat
manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of
Canaan.
The
Israelites ate manna forty years, until they came to a land where they could settle; they
ate manna until they reached the border of
Canaan.
And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the
chiding of the children of Israel, and because they
tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?
He named the place Massah and Meribah because the Israelites quarreled, and because they tested the LORD, saying, “Is the LORD among us or not?”
Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in
Rephidim.
In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of
Sinai.
In the third month, on the same day of the month that the
Israelites had left the land of Egypt, they came to the Wilderness of
Sinai.
And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
And unto Me you shall be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you are to speak to the Israelites.”
And the LORD said unto Moses, Thus thou shalt say unto the children of Israel, Ye have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “This is what you are to tell the
Israelites: ‘You have seen for
yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven.
And the sight of the glory of the LORD was like
devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel.
And the sight of the glory of the LORD was like a
consuming fire on the mountaintop in the eyes of the
Israelites.
Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering.
“Tell the Israelites to bring Me an offering. You are to receive My offering from every man whose heart compels him.
And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.
And I will meet with you there above the mercy seat, between the two
cherubim that are over the ark of the Testimony; I will speak with you about all that I command you regarding the
Israelites.
And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always.
And you are to command the Israelites to bring you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to keep the lamps burning continually.
In the tabernacle of the congregation without the
vail, which is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall order it from evening to morning before the LORD: it shall be a statute for ever unto their generations on the behalf of the children of Israel.
In the Tent of Meeting, outside the
veil that is in front of the Testimony, Aaron and his sons are to tend the lamps before the LORD from evening until morning. This is to be a permanent statute for the
Israelites for the generations to come.
And take thou unto thee Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office, even Aaron,
Nadab and
Abihu,
Eleazar and
Ithamar, Aaron’s sons.
“Next, have your brother Aaron brought to you from among the
Israelites, along with his sons
Nadab,
Abihu,
Eleazar, and
Ithamar, to serve Me as priests.
And it shall be Aaron’s and his sons’ by a statute for ever from the children of Israel: for it is an
heave offering: and it shall be an
heave offering from the children of Israel of the sacrifice of their peace offerings, even their
heave offering unto the LORD.
This will belong to Aaron and his sons as a regular portion from the
Israelites, for it is the
heave offering the
Israelites will make to the LORD from their peace offerings.
And there I will meet with the children of Israel, and the tabernacle shall be
sanctified by my glory.
I will also meet with the Israelites there, and that place will be consecrated by My glory.
And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will be their God.
Then I will dwell among the Israelites and be their God.
When thou takest the sum of the children of Israel after their number, then shall they give every man a
ransom for his soul unto the LORD, when thou numberest them; that there be no plague among them, when thou numberest them.
“When you take a census of the
Israelites to number them, each man must pay the LORD a
ransom for his life when he is counted. Then no plague will come upon them when they are numbered.
And thou shalt take the
atonement money of the children of Israel, and shalt
appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; that it may be a
memorial unto the children of Israel before the LORD, to make an
atonement for your souls.
Take the
atonement money from the
Israelites and use it for the service of the Tent of Meeting. It will serve as a
memorial for the
Israelites before the LORD to make
atonement for your lives.”
And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, This shall be an holy
anointing oil unto me throughout your generations.
And you are to tell the
Israelites, ‘This will be My sacred
anointing oil for the generations to come.
Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying,
Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that
doth sanctify you.
“Tell the Israelites, ‘Surely you must keep My Sabbaths, for this will be a sign between Me and you for the generations to come, so that you may know that I am the LORD who sanctifies you.
Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
The
Israelites must keep the Sabbath,
celebrating it as a permanent covenant for the generations to come.
It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.
It is a sign between Me and the
Israelites forever; for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, but on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’”
And he took the
calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and strawed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.
Then he took the
calf they had made, burned it in the fire, ground it to powder, and scattered the powder over the face of the water. Then he forced the
Israelites to drink it.
For the LORD had said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, Ye are a stiffnecked people: I will come up into the midst of thee in a moment, and
consume thee: therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee.
For the LORD had said to Moses, “Tell the
Israelites, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. If I should go with you for a single moment, I would destroy you. Now take off your
jewelry, and I will decide what to do with you.’”
And the children of Israel
stripped themselves of their ornaments by the mount
Horeb.
And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face
shone; and they were afraid to come
nigh him.
Aaron and all the
Israelites looked at Moses, and behold, his face was
radiant. And they were afraid to approach him.
And afterward all the children of Israel came
nigh: and he gave them in commandment all that the LORD had spoken with him in mount
Sinai.
And after this all the
Israelites came near, and Moses commanded them to do everything that the LORD had told him on Mount
Sinai.
But when Moses went in before the LORD to speak with him, he took the
vail off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded.
But whenever Moses went in before the LORD to speak with Him, he would remove the
veil until he came out. And when he came out, he would tell the
Israelites what he had been commanded,
And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face
shone: and Moses put the
vail upon his face again, until he went in to speak with him.
and the
Israelites would see that the face of Moses was
radiant. So Moses would put the
veil back over his face until he went in to speak with the LORD.
The children of Israel brought a willing offering unto the LORD, every man and woman, whose heart made them willing to bring for all manner of work, which the LORD had commanded to be made by the hand of Moses.
So all the men and women of the
Israelites whose hearts
prompted them brought a
freewill offering to the LORD for all the work that the LORD through Moses had commanded them to do.
And Moses said unto the children of Israel, See, the LORD hath called by name Bezaleel the son of
Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah;
Then Moses said to the
Israelites, “See, the LORD has called by name Bezalel son of
Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah.
And they received of Moses all the offering, which the children of Israel had brought for the work of the service of the sanctuary, to make it
withal. And they brought yet unto him free offerings every morning.
They received from Moses all the contributions that the
Israelites had brought to carry out the service of constructing the sanctuary. Meanwhile, the people continued to bring
freewill offerings morning after morning,
Thus was all the work of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation finished: and the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so did they.
So all the work for the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, was completed. The Israelites did everything just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
According to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so the children of Israel made all the work.
The Israelites had done all the work just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
