Yea, thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that remain in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of
Judah and of Jerusalem;
Yes, this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says about the articles that remain in the house of the LORD, in the palace of the king of
Judah, and in Jerusalem:
And it came to pass the same year, in the beginning of the reign of
Zedekiah king of
Judah, in the fourth year, and in the fifth month, that Hananiah the son of Azur the prophet, which was of
Gibeon, spake unto me in the house of the LORD, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,
In the fifth month of that same year, the fourth year, near the beginning of the reign of King
Zedekiah of
Judah, the prophet Hananiah son of Azzur, who was from
Gibeon, said to me in the house of the LORD in the presence of the priests and all the people:
And I will bring again to this place Jeconiah the son of
Jehoiakim king of
Judah, with all the
captives of
Judah, that went into Babylon, saith the LORD: for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.
And I will restore to this place Jeconiah son of
Jehoiakim king of
Judah, along with all the exiles from
Judah who went to Babylon,’ declares the LORD, ‘for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.’”
(After that Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem;)
(This was after King Jeconiah, the queen mother, the court officials, the officials of
Judah and Jerusalem, the
craftsmen, and the metalsmiths had been exiled from Jerusalem.)
By the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom
Zedekiah king of
Judah sent unto Babylon to
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon) saying,
The letter was entrusted to Elasah son of Shaphan and Gemariah son of Hilkiah, whom
Zedekiah king of
Judah sent to King
Nebuchadnezzar in Babylon. It stated:
And of them shall be taken up a
curse by all the captivity of
Judah which are in Babylon, saying, The LORD make thee like
Zedekiah and like
Ahab, whom the king of Babylon
roasted in the fire;
Because of them, all the exiles of
Judah who are in Babylon will use this
curse: ‘May the LORD make you like
Zedekiah and
Ahab, whom the king of Babylon
roasted in the fire!’
For, lo, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith the LORD: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.
For behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will restore from captivity My people Israel and Judah, declares the LORD. I will restore them to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they will possess it.’”
And these are the words that the LORD spake concerning Israel and concerning Judah.
These are the words that the LORD spoke concerning Israel and Judah.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As yet they shall use this speech in the land of
Judah and in the cities thereof, when I shall bring again their captivity; The LORD
bless thee, O
habitation of justice, and mountain of
holiness.
This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “When I restore them from captivity, they will once again speak this word in the land of
Judah and in its cities: ‘May the LORD
bless you, O righteous dwelling place, O holy mountain.’
And there shall dwell in
Judah itself, and in all the cities thereof together,
husbandmen, and they that go forth with flocks.
And Judah and all its cities will dwell together in the land, the farmers and those who move with the flocks,
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will
sow the house of Israel and the house of
Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast.
“The days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will
sow the house of Israel and the house of
Judah with the seed of man and of beast.
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.
The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD in the tenth year of
Zedekiah king of
Judah, which was the
eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar.
For then the king of Babylon’s army besieged Jerusalem: and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the prison, which was in the king of Judah’s house.
At that time the army of the king of Babylon was
besieging Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet was imprisoned in the
courtyard of the guard, which was in the palace of the king of
Judah.
For
Zedekiah king of
Judah had shut him up, saying, Wherefore
dost thou
prophesy, and say, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it;
For
Zedekiah king of
Judah had imprisoned him, saying: “Why are you
prophesying like this? You claim that the LORD says, ‘Behold, I am about to deliver this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will capture it.
And
Zedekiah king of
Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall behold his eyes;
Zedekiah king of
Judah will not escape from the hands of the Chaldeans, but he will surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and will speak with him face to face and see him eye to eye.
For the children of Israel and the children of
Judah have only done evil before me from their youth: for the children of Israel have only
provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, saith the LORD.
For the children of Israel and of
Judah have done nothing but evil in My sight from their youth; indeed, they have done nothing but
provoke Me to anger by the work of their hands, declares the LORD.
Because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of
Judah, which they have done to
provoke me to anger, they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of
Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
because of all the evil the children of Israel and of
Judah have done to
provoke Me to anger—they, their kings, their officials, their priests and prophets, the men of
Judah, and the residents of Jerusalem.
And they built the high places of
Baal, which are in the valley of the son of
Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto
Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this
abomination, to cause
Judah to sin.
They have built the high places of
Baal in the Valley of
Hinnom to make their sons and daughters pass through the fire to
Molech—something I never commanded them, nor had it ever entered My mind, that they should commit such an
abomination and cause
Judah to sin.
Men shall
buy fields for money, and
subscribe evidences, and seal them, and take witnesses in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of
Judah, and in the cities of the mountains, and in the cities of the valley, and in the cities of the south: for I will cause their captivity to return, saith the LORD.
Fields will be purchased with silver, and deeds will be signed, sealed, and witnessed in the land of Benjamin, in the areas surrounding Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah—the cities of the hill country, the foothills, and the Negev—because I will restore them from captivity, declares the LORD.”
For thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are thrown down by the mounts, and by the sword;
For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says about the houses of this city and the palaces of the kings of
Judah that have been
torn down for
defense against the siege ramps and the sword:
And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first.
I will restore Judah and Israel from captivity and will rebuild them as in former times.
Thus saith the LORD; Again there shall be heard in this place, which ye say shall be
desolate without man and without beast, even in the cities of
Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are
desolate, without man, and without inhabitant, and without beast,
This is what the LORD says: In this place you say is a wasteland without man or beast, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem that are deserted—inhabited by neither man nor beast—there will be heard again
In the cities of the mountains, in the cities of the
vale, and in the cities of the south, and in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of
Judah, shall the flocks pass again under the hands of him that telleth them, saith the LORD.
In the cities of the hill country, the foothills, and the Negev, in the land of Benjamin and the cities surrounding Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, the flocks will again pass under the hands of the one who counts them, says the LORD.
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel and to the house of Judah.
Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will
fulfill the
gracious promise that I have spoken to the house of Israel and the house of
Judah.
In those days shall
Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name
wherewith she shall be called, The LORD our righteousness.
In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell securely, and this is the name by which it will be called: The LORD Our Righteousness.
Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Go and speak to
Zedekiah king of
Judah, and tell him, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire:
The LORD, the God of Israel, told Jeremiah to go and speak to
Zedekiah king of
Judah and tell him that this is what the LORD says: “Behold, I am about to deliver this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will burn it down.
Yet hear the word of the LORD, O
Zedekiah king of
Judah; Thus saith the LORD of thee, Thou shalt not die by the sword:
Yet hear the word of the LORD, O
Zedekiah king of
Judah. This is what the LORD says concerning you: You will not die by the sword;
Then Jeremiah the prophet spake all these words unto
Zedekiah king of
Judah in Jerusalem,
In Jerusalem, then, Jeremiah the prophet relayed all these words to
Zedekiah king of
Judah When the king of Babylon’s army fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of
Judah that were left, against
Lachish, and against Azekah: for these defenced cities remained of the cities of
Judah.
as the army of the king of Babylon was fighting against Jerusalem and the remaining cities of
Judah—against
Lachish and Azekah. For these were the only fortified cities remaining in
Judah.
The princes of
Judah, and the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs, and the priests, and all the people of the land, which passed between the parts of the
calf;
The officials of
Judah and Jerusalem, the court officials, the priests, and all the people of the land who passed between the pieces of the
calf,
And
Zedekiah king of
Judah and his princes will I give into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them that seek their life, and into the hand of the king of Babylon’s army, which are gone up from you.
And I will deliver
Zedekiah king of
Judah and his officials into the hands of their enemies who seek their lives, to the army of the king of Babylon that had withdrawn from you.
Behold, I will command, saith the LORD, and cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire: and I will make the cities of
Judah a
desolation without an inhabitant.
Behold, I am going to give the command, declares the LORD, and I will bring them back to this city. They will fight against it, capture it, and burn it down. And I will make the cities of
Judah a
desolation, without inhabitant.”
The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD in the days of
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of
Judah, saying,
This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD in the days of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah king of
Judah:
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Go and tell the men of
Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will ye not receive instruction to
hearken to my words? saith the LORD.
“This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Go and tell the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem: ‘Will you not accept discipline and obey My words?’ declares the LORD.
Therefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them: because I have spoken unto them, but they have not heard; and I have called unto them, but they have not answered.
Therefore this is what the LORD God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Behold, I will bring to
Judah and to all the residents of Jerusalem all the
disaster I have pronounced against them, because I have spoken to them but they have not obeyed, and I have called to them but they have not answered.’”
And it came to pass in the fourth year of
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of
Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
In the fourth year of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah king of
Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the LORD:
Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against
Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of
Josiah, even into this day.
“Take a
scroll and write on it all the words I have spoken to you concerning Israel,
Judah, and all the nations, from the day I first spoke to you during the reign of
Josiah until
today.
It may be that the house of
Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may
forgive their iniquity and their sin.
Perhaps when the people of
Judah hear about all the
calamity I plan to bring upon them, each of them will turn from his wicked way. Then I will
forgive their iniquity and their sin.”
Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD’S house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.
so you are to go to the house of the LORD on a day of fasting, and in the hearing of the people you are to read the words of the LORD from the
scroll you have written at my
dictation. Read them in the hearing of all the people of
Judah who are coming from their cities.
And it came to pass in the fifth year of
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of
Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the LORD to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of
Judah unto Jerusalem.
Now in the ninth month of the fifth year of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah king of
Judah, a fast before the LORD was proclaimed to all the people of Jerusalem and all who had come there from the cities of
Judah.
Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which
Jehoiakim the king of
Judah hath burned.
“Take another
scroll and rewrite on it the very words that were on the original
scroll, which
Jehoiakim king of
Judah has burned.
And thou shalt say to
Jehoiakim the king of
Judah, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?
You are to
proclaim concerning
Jehoiakim king of
Judah that this is what the LORD says: You have burned the
scroll and said, ‘Why have you written on it that the king of Babylon would surely come and destroy this land and deprive it of man and beast?’
Therefore thus saith the LORD of
Jehoiakim king of
Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the
frost.
Therefore this is what the LORD says about
Jehoiakim king of
Judah: He will have no one to sit on David’s throne, and his body will be thrown out and exposed to heat by day and
frost by night.
And I will
punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of
Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they
hearkened not.
I will
punish him and his descendants and servants for their iniquity. I will bring on them, on the residents of Jerusalem, and on the men of
Judah, all the
calamity about which I
warned them but they did not
listen.”
Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to
Baruch the
scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which
Jehoiakim king of
Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.
Then Jeremiah took another
scroll and gave it to the
scribe Baruch son of Neriah, and at Jeremiah’s
dictation he wrote on it all the words of the
scroll that
Jehoiakim king of
Judah had burned in the fire. And many similar words were added to them.
And king
Zedekiah the son of
Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of
Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of
Judah.
Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of
Judah, that sent you unto me to
enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.
“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says that you are to tell the king of Judah, who sent you to Me: Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which has marched out to help you, will go back to its own land of Egypt.
And, behold, all the women that are left in the king of
Judah’s house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, and those women shall say, Thy friends have set thee on, and have prevailed against thee: thy feet are sunk in the
mire, and they are turned away back.
All the women who remain in the palace of the king of
Judah will be brought out to the officials of the king of Babylon, and those women will say: ‘They misled you and overcame you— those trusted friends of yours. Your feet
sank into the
mire, and they deserted you.’
In the ninth year of
Zedekiah king of
Judah, in the tenth month, came Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his army against Jerusalem, and they besieged it.
In the ninth year of
Zedekiah king of
Judah, in the tenth month,
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched against Jerusalem with his entire army and laid siege to the city.
And it came to pass, that when
Zedekiah the king of
Judah saw them, and all the men of war, then they fled, and went forth out of the city by night, by the way of the king’s garden, by the gate
betwixt the two walls: and he went out the way of the plain.
When
Zedekiah king of
Judah and all the soldiers saw them, they fled. They left the city at night by way of the king’s garden, through the gate between the two walls, and they went out along the route to the Arabah.
Then the king of Babylon
slew the sons of
Zedekiah in Riblah before his eyes: also the king of Babylon
slew all the nobles of
Judah.
There at Riblah the king of Babylon slaughtered the sons of
Zedekiah before his eyes, and he also killed all the nobles of
Judah.
But Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard left of the poor of the people, which had nothing, in the land of Judah, and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time.
But Nebuzaradan left behind in the land of Judah some of the poor people who had no property, and at that time he gave them vineyards and fields.
The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after that Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard had let him go from
Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all that were carried away
captive of Jerusalem and
Judah, which were carried away
captive unto Babylon.
This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD after Nebuzaradan captain of the guard had released him at
Ramah, having found him bound in chains among all the
captives of Jerusalem and
Judah who were being exiled to Babylon.
Now while he was not yet gone back, he said, Go back also to Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of
Judah, and dwell with him among the people: or go
wheresoever it seemeth convenient unto thee to go. So the captain of the guard gave him
victuals and a reward, and let him go.
But before Jeremiah turned to go, Nebuzaradan added, “Return to Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed over the cities of
Judah, and stay with him among the people, or go
anywhere else that seems right.” Then the captain of the guard gave him a
ration and a gift and released him.
Likewise when all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the
Ammonites, and in
Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a
remnant of
Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan;
When all the Jews in Moab,
Ammon,
Edom, and all the other lands heard that the king of Babylon had left a
remnant in
Judah and had appointed Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, over them,
Even all the Jews returned out of all places
whither they were driven, and came to the land of
Judah, to Gedaliah, unto
Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits very much.
they all returned from all the places to which they had been banished and came to the land of
Judah, to Gedaliah at
Mizpah. And they gathered an abundance of wine grapes and summer fruit.
Then Johanan the son of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in
Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me go, I pray thee, and I will
slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it: wherefore should he
slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered unto thee should be scattered, and the
remnant in
Judah perish?
Then Johanan son of Kareah spoke privately to Gedaliah at
Mizpah. “Let me go and kill
Ishmael son of Nethaniah,” he said. “No one will know it. Why should he take your life and
scatter all the people of
Judah who have gathered to you, so that the
remnant of
Judah would perish?”
And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye
remnant of
Judah; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to
sojourn there;
then hear the word of the LORD, O
remnant of
Judah! This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you are determined to go to Egypt and reside there,
The LORD hath said concerning you, O ye
remnant of
Judah; Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have
admonished you this day.
The LORD has told you, O
remnant of
Judah, ‘Do not go to Egypt.’ Know for sure that I have
warned you
today!
So Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, and all the people, obeyed not the voice of the LORD, to dwell in the land of Judah.
So Johanan son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces disobeyed the command of the LORD to stay in the land of Judah.
But Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, took all the
remnant of
Judah, that were returned from all nations,
whither they had been driven, to dwell in the land of
Judah;
Instead, Johanan son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces took the whole
remnant of
Judah, those who had returned to the land of
Judah from all the nations to which they had been scattered,
Take great stones in thine hand, and hide them in the clay in the
brickkiln, which is at the entry of Pharaoh’s house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of
Judah;
“In the sight of the Jews,
pick up some large stones and
bury them in the clay of the brick
pavement at the entrance to Pharaoh’s palace at Tahpanhes.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Ye have seen all the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, and upon all the cities of
Judah; and, behold, this day they are a
desolation, and no man dwelleth therein,
“This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: You have seen all the
disaster that I brought against Jerusalem and all the cities of
Judah; and behold, they lie
today in ruins and
desolation Wherefore my
fury and mine anger was poured forth, and was
kindled in the cities of
Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and
desolate, as at this day.
Therefore My wrath and anger poured out and burned in the cities of
Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, so that they have become the
desolate ruin they are
today.
Therefore now thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; Wherefore commit ye this great evil against your souls, to cut off from you man and woman, child and
suckling, out of
Judah, to leave you none to remain;
So now, this is what the LORD God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Why are you doing such great
harm to
yourselves by cutting off from
Judah man and woman, child and infant, leaving
yourselves without a
remnant?
Have ye forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, which they have committed in the land of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem?
Have you forgotten the wickedness of your fathers and of the kings of Judah and their wives, as well as the wickedness that you and your wives committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, and to cut off all Judah.
Therefore this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: I will set My face to bring
disaster and to cut off all
Judah.
And I will take the
remnant of
Judah, that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to
sojourn there, and they shall all be consumed, and fall in the land of Egypt; they shall even be consumed by the sword and by the famine: they shall die, from the least even unto the greatest, by the sword and by the famine: and they shall be an
execration, and an
astonishment, and a
curse, and a reproach.
And I will take away the
remnant of
Judah who have resolved to go to the land of Egypt to reside there; they will meet their end. They will all fall by the sword or be consumed by famine. From the least to the greatest, they will die by sword or famine; and they will become an object of
cursing and
horror, of
vilification and reproach.
So that none of the
remnant of
Judah, which are gone into the land of Egypt to
sojourn there, shall escape or remain, that they should return into the land of
Judah, to the which they have a desire to return to dwell there: for none shall return but such as shall escape.
so that none of the
remnant of
Judah who have gone to reside in Egypt will escape or
survive to return to the land of
Judah, where they long to return and live; for none will return except a few fugitives.”
But we will certainly do
whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of
Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we
plenty of
victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.
Instead, we will do everything we
vowed to do: We will burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and offer drink offerings to her, just as we, our fathers, our kings, and our officials did in the cities of
Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. At that time we had
plenty of food and good things, and we saw no
disaster.
The incense that ye burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, ye, and your fathers, your kings, and your princes, and the people of the land, did not the LORD remember them, and came it not into his mind?
“As for the incense you burned in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem—you, your fathers, your kings, your officials, and the people of the land—did the LORD not remember and bring this to mind?
Moreover Jeremiah said unto all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of the LORD, all Judah that are in the land of Egypt:
Then Jeremiah said to all the people, including all the women, “Hear the word of the LORD, all those of Judah who are in the land of Egypt.
Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, all
Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have
sworn by my great name, saith the LORD, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of
Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord GOD liveth.
Nevertheless, hear the word of the LORD, all you people of
Judah living in Egypt: Behold, I have
sworn by My great name, says the LORD, that never again will any man of
Judah living in the land of Egypt
invoke My name or say, ‘As surely as the Lord GOD lives.’
Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good: and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them.
I am watching over them for
harm and not for good, and every man of
Judah who is in the land of Egypt will meet his end by sword or famine, until they are finished off.
Yet a small number that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of
Judah, and all the
remnant of
Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to
sojourn there, shall know whose words shall stand, mine, or theirs.
Those who escape the sword will return from Egypt to
Judah, few in number, and the whole
remnant of
Judah who went to dwell in the land of Egypt will know whose word will stand, Mine or theirs!
Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will give Pharaoh-hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of them that seek his life; as I gave
Zedekiah king of
Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, his enemy, and that sought his life.
This is what the LORD says: Behold, I will deliver Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt into the hands of his enemies who seek his life, just as I delivered
Zedekiah king of
Judah into the hand of
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the enemy who was seeking his life.”
The word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto
Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of
Judah, saying,
This is the word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to
Baruch son of Neriah when he wrote these words on a
scroll at the
dictation of Jeremiah in the fourth year of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah, king of
Judah:
Against Egypt, against the army of Pharaoh-
necho king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon
smote in the fourth year of
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of
Judah.
concerning Egypt and the army of Pharaoh Neco king of Egypt, which was defeated at Carchemish on the Euphrates River by
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon in the fourth year of
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of
Judah:
The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against
Elam in the beginning of the reign of
Zedekiah king of
Judah, saying,
This is the word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning
Elam at the beginning of the reign of
Zedekiah king of
Judah.
In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of
Judah together, going and
weeping: they shall go, and seek the LORD their God.
“In those days and at that time, declares the LORD, the children of Israel and the children of
Judah will come together,
weeping as they come, and will seek the LORD their God.
In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of
Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will
pardon them whom I reserve.
In those days and at that time, declares the LORD, a search will be made for Israel’s guilt, but there will be none, and for
Judah’s sins, but they will not be found; for I will
forgive the
remnant I preserve.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The children of Israel and the children of
Judah were
oppressed together: and all that took them
captives held them fast; they refused to let them go.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “The sons of Israel are
oppressed, and the sons of
Judah as well. All their captors hold them fast, refusing to release them.
For Israel hath not been
forsaken, nor
Judah of his God, of the LORD of hosts; though their land was filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel.
For Israel and Judah have not been abandoned by their God, the LORD of Hosts, though their land is full of guilt before the Holy One of Israel.”
The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, when he went with
Zedekiah the king of
Judah into Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. And this Seraiah was a quiet prince.
This is the message that Jeremiah the prophet gave to the
quartermaster Seraiah son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went to Babylon with King
Zedekiah of
Judah in the fourth year of
Zedekiah’s reign.
For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in Jerusalem and
Judah, till he had cast them out from his presence, that
Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
For because of the anger of the LORD, all this happened in Jerusalem and
Judah, until He finally banished them from His presence. And
Zedekiah also rebelled against the king of Babylon.
And the king of Babylon
slew the sons of
Zedekiah before his eyes: he
slew also all the princes of
Judah in Riblah.
There at Riblah the king of Babylon slaughtered the sons of
Zedekiah before his eyes, and he also killed all the officials of
Judah.
And the king of Babylon
smote them, and put them to death in Riblah in the land of
Hamath. Thus
Judah was carried away
captive out of his own land.
There at Riblah in the land of
Hamath, the king of Babylon struck them down and put them to death. So
Judah was taken into exile, away from its own land.
And it came to pass in the seven and
thirtieth year of the captivity of
Jehoiachin king of
Judah, in the
twelfth month, in the five and
twentieth day of the month, that Evil-merodach king of Babylon in the first year of his reign lifted up the head of
Jehoiachin king of
Judah, and brought him forth out of prison,
On the twenty-fifth day of the
twelfth month of the thirty-seventh year of the exile of
Jehoiachin king of
Judah, in the first year of the reign of Evil-merodach king of Babylon, he
pardoned Jehoiachin king of
Judah and released him from prison.
Judah is gone into captivity because of
affliction, and because of great
servitude: she dwelleth among the heathen, she findeth no rest: all her persecutors overtook her between the straits.
Judah has gone into exile under
affliction and harsh slavery; she dwells among the nations but finds no place to rest. All her pursuers have overtaken her in the midst of her distress.
The Lord hath
trodden under foot all my mighty men in the midst of me: he hath called an assembly against me to
crush my young men: the Lord hath
trodden the virgin, the daughter of
Judah, as in a winepress.
The Lord has rejected all the mighty men in my midst; He has summoned an army against me to
crush my young warriors. Like grapes in a winepress, the Lord has
trampled the Virgin Daughter of
Judah.
The Lord hath
swallowed up all the habitations of Jacob, and hath not
pitied: he hath thrown down in his wrath the strong holds of the daughter of
Judah; he hath brought them down to the ground: he hath
polluted the kingdom and the princes thereof.
Without
pity the Lord has
swallowed up all the dwellings of Jacob. In His wrath He has
demolished the fortified cities of the Daughter of
Judah. He brought to the ground and
defiled her kingdom and its princes.
The Lord was as an enemy: he hath
swallowed up Israel, he hath
swallowed up all her palaces: he hath destroyed his strong holds, and hath increased in the daughter of
Judah mourning and
lamentation.
The Lord is like an enemy; He has
swallowed up Israel. He has
swallowed up all her palaces and destroyed her strongholds. He has multiplied
mourning and
lamentation for the Daughter of
Judah.
They
ravished the women in
Zion, and the maids in the cities of
Judah.
Women have been
ravished in
Zion, virgins in the cities of
Judah.
And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days: I have appointed thee each day for a year.
When you have completed these days, lie down again, but on your right side, and bear the iniquity of the house of Judah. I have assigned to you 40 days, a day for each year.
And it came to pass in the sixth year, in the sixth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I sat in mine house, and the elders of Judah sat before me, that the hand of the Lord GOD fell there upon me.
In the sixth year, on the fifth day of the sixth month, I was sitting in my house, and the elders of Judah were sitting before me; and there the hand of the Lord GOD fell upon me.
Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of
Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to
provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “do you see this? Is it not enough for the house of
Judah to commit the abominations they are practicing here, that they must also fill the land with violence and continually
provoke Me to anger? Look, they are even putting the branch to their nose!
Then said he unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and
Judah is exceeding great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of
perverseness: for they say, The LORD hath
forsaken the earth, and the LORD
seeth not.
He replied, “The iniquity of the house of Israel and
Judah is exceedingly great. The land is full of
bloodshed, and the city is full of
perversity. For they say, ‘The LORD has
forsaken the land; the LORD does not see.’
Mark out one road for the sword to come against Rabbah of the
Ammonites, and another against
Judah into fortified Jerusalem.
And say unto the
Ammonites, Hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou saidst,
Aha, against my sanctuary, when it was
profaned; and against the land of Israel, when it was
desolate; and against the house of
Judah, when they went into captivity;
Tell the
Ammonites to hear the word of the Lord GOD, for this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because you
exclaimed, “
Aha!” when My sanctuary was
profaned, when the land of Israel was laid waste, and when the house of
Judah went into exile,
