For Jerusalem is ruined, and
Judah is fallen: because their tongue and their doings are against the LORD, to
provoke the eyes of his glory.
For Jerusalem has
stumbled and
Judah has fallen because they spoke and acted against the LORD,
defying His glorious presence.
And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of
Judah, judge, I pray you,
betwixt me and my
vineyard.
“And now, O dwellers of Jerusalem and men of
Judah, I
exhort you to judge between Me and My
vineyard.
For the
vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of
Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.
For the
vineyard of the LORD of Hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of
Judah are the plant of His delight. He looked for justice, but saw
bloodshed; for righteousness, but heard a cry of distress.
And it came to pass in the days of
Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of
Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it.
Now in the days that
Ahaz son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, was king of
Judah, Rezin king of
Aram marched up to
wage war against Jerusalem. He was accompanied by Pekah son of Remaliah the king of Israel, but he could not overpower the city.
Let us go up against
Judah, and
vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us, and set a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tabeal:
‘Let us
invade Judah,
terrorize it, and divide it among ourselves. Then we can
install the son of Tabeal over it as king.’
The LORD shall bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father’s house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah; even the king of Assyria.
The LORD will bring on you and on your people and on the house of your father a time unlike any since the day Ephraim separated from Judah—He will bring the king of Assyria.”
And he shall pass through
Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O
Immanuel.
It will pour into
Judah,
swirling and
sweeping over it, reaching up to the neck; its spreading streams will cover your entire land, O
Immanuel!
Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim,
Manasseh: and they together shall be against
Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
Manasseh devours Ephraim, and Ephraim
Manasseh; together they turn against
Judah.
Despite all this, His anger is not turned away; His hand is still upraised.
And he shall set up an
ensign for the nations, and shall
assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the
dispersed of
Judah from the four corners of the earth.
He will raise a
banner for the nations and gather the exiles of Israel; He will collect the scattered of
Judah from the four corners of the earth.
The
envy also of Ephraim shall depart, and the
adversaries of
Judah shall be cut off: Ephraim shall not
envy Judah, and
Judah shall not
vex Ephraim.
Then the jealousy of Ephraim will depart, and the
adversaries of
Judah will be cut off. Ephraim will no longer
envy Judah, nor will
Judah harass Ephraim.
And the land of Judah shall be a terror unto Egypt, every one that maketh mention thereof shall be afraid in himself, because of the counsel of the LORD of hosts, which he hath determined against it.
The land of
Judah will bring terror to Egypt; whenever
Judah is mentioned, Egypt will
tremble over what the LORD of Hosts has
planned against it.
And he discovered the covering of
Judah, and thou
didst look in that day to the armour of the house of the forest.
He has uncovered the defenses of Judah. On that day you looked to the weapons in the House of the Forest.
And I will
clothe him with thy
robe, and
strengthen him with thy
girdle, and I will commit thy government into his hand: and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of
Judah.
I will
clothe him with your
robe and
tie your
sash around him. I will put your authority in his hand, and he will be a father to the dwellers of Jerusalem and to the house of
Judah.
In that day shall this song be sung in the land of
Judah; We have a strong city; salvation will God
appoint for walls and bulwarks.
In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: We have a strong city; salvation is established as its walls and ramparts.
Now it came to pass in the
fourteenth year of king
Hezekiah, that
Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the defenced cities of
Judah, and took them.
But if thou say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: is it not he, whose high places and whose altars
Hezekiah hath taken away, and said to
Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?
But if you say to me, ‘We trust in the LORD our God,’ is He not the One whose high places and altars
Hezekiah has removed, saying to
Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You must worship before this altar’?
Thus shall ye speak to
Hezekiah king of
Judah, saying, Let not thy God, in whom thou trustest,
deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.
“Give this message to
Hezekiah king of
Judah: ‘Do not let your God, in whom you trust,
deceive you by saying that Jerusalem will not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
And the
remnant that is escaped of the house of
Judah shall again take root
downward, and bear fruit upward:
And the
surviving remnant of the house of
Judah will again take root below and bear fruit above.
The writing of
Hezekiah king of
Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness:
This is a writing by
Hezekiah king of
Judah after his illness and recovery:
O
Zion, that bringest good
tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good
tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of
Judah, Behold your God!
Go up on a high mountain, O
Zion,
herald of good news. Raise your voice loudly, O Jerusalem,
herald of good news. Lift it up, do not be afraid! Say to the cities of
Judah, “Here is your God!”
That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof:
who confirms the message of His servant and fulfills the counsel of His messengers, who says of Jerusalem, ‘She will be inhabited,’ and of the cities of Judah, ‘They will be rebuilt, and I will restore their ruins,’
Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of
Judah, which
swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness.
“
Listen to this, O house of Jacob, you who are called by the name of Israel, who have descended from the line of
Judah, who
swear by the name of the LORD, who
invoke the God of Israel— but not in truth or righteousness—
And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of
Judah an
inheritor of my mountains: and mine
elect shall
inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there.
And I will bring forth descendants from Jacob, and heirs from
Judah; My
elect will possess My mountains, and My servants will dwell there.
To whom the word of the LORD came in the days of
Josiah the son of Amon king of
Judah, in the
thirteenth year of his reign.
The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah in the
thirteenth year of the reign of
Josiah son of Amon king of
Judah,
and through the days of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah king of
Judah, until the fifth month of the
eleventh year of
Zedekiah son of
Josiah king of
Judah, when the people of Jerusalem went into exile.
For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.
For I am about to
summon all the clans and kingdoms of the north,” declares the LORD. “Their kings will come and set up their thrones at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem. They will attack all her surrounding walls and all the other cities of
Judah.
For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron
pillar, and
brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of
Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.
Now behold, this day I have made you like a fortified city, an iron
pillar, and bronze walls against the whole land—against the kings of
Judah, its officials, its priests, and the people of the land.
But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.
But where are the gods you made for
yourselves? Let them rise up in your time of trouble and save you if they can; for your gods are as numerous as your cities, O
Judah.
And I said after she had done all these things, Turn thou unto me. But she returned not. And her
treacherous sister
Judah saw it.
I thought that after she had done all these things, she would return to Me. But she did not return, and her unfaithful sister Judah saw it.
And I saw, when for all the causes whereby
backsliding Israel committed
adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of
divorce; yet her
treacherous sister
Judah feared not, but went and played the
harlot also.
She saw that because faithless Israel had committed
adultery, I gave her a
certificate of
divorce and sent her away. Yet that unfaithful sister
Judah had no fear and
prostituted herself as well.
And yet for all this her
treacherous sister
Judah hath not turned unto me with her whole heart, but
feignedly, saith the LORD.
Yet in spite of all this, her unfaithful sister Judah did not return to Me with all her heart, but only in pretense,” declares the LORD.
And the LORD said to me, “Faithless Israel has shown herself more righteous than unfaithful Judah.
In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.
In those days the house of Judah will walk with the house of Israel, and they will come together from the land of the north to the land that I gave to your fathers as an inheritance.
For thus saith the LORD to the men of
Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your
fallow ground, and
sow not among thorns.
For this is what the LORD says to the men of
Judah and Jerusalem: “Break up your
unplowed ground, and do not
sow among the thorns.
Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of
Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my
fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can
quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and remove the foreskins of your hearts, O men of
Judah and people of Jerusalem. Otherwise, My wrath will break out like fire and burn with no one to
extinguish it, because of your evil deeds.”
Declare ye in
Judah, and
publish in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the
trumpet in the land: cry, gather together, and say,
Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the defenced cities.
Make ye mention to the nations; behold,
publish against Jerusalem, that watchers come from a far country, and give out their voice against the cities of
Judah.
Warn the nations now!
Proclaim to Jerusalem: “A
besieging army comes from a distant land; they raise their voices against the cities of
Judah.
For the house of Israel and the house of
Judah have dealt very
treacherously against me, saith the LORD.
For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have been utterly unfaithful to Me,” declares the LORD.
Declare this in the house of Jacob, and
publish it in
Judah, saying,
Declare this in the house of Jacob and
proclaim it in
Judah:
Stand in the gate of the LORD’S house, and
proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of
Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD.
“Stand in the gate of the house of the LORD and
proclaim this message: Hear the word of the LORD, all you people of
Judah who enter through these gates to worship the LORD.
Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
Do you not see what they are doing in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
For the children of
Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the LORD: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to
pollute it.
For the people of
Judah have done evil in My sight, declares the LORD. They have set up their abominations in the house that bears My Name, and so have
defiled it.
Then will I cause to cease from the cities of
Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of
mirth, and the voice of
gladness, the voice of the
bridegroom, and the voice of the
bride: for the land shall be
desolate.
I will remove from the cities of
Judah and the streets of Jerusalem the sounds of joy and
gladness and the voices of the
bride and
bridegroom, for the land will become a wasteland.”
At that time, saith the LORD, they shall bring out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his princes, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves:
“At that time,” declares the LORD, “the bones of the kings of Judah, the bones of the officials, the bones of the priests, the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the people of Jerusalem will be removed from their graves.
And I will make Jerusalem heaps, and a den of
dragons; and I will make the cities of
Judah desolate, without an inhabitant.
“And I will make Jerusalem a
heap of
rubble, a
haunt for jackals; and I will make the cities of
Judah a
desolation, without inhabitant.”
Egypt, and
Judah, and
Edom, and the children of
Ammon, and Moab, and all that are in the utmost corners, that dwell in the wilderness: for all these nations are
uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are
uncircumcised in the heart.
Egypt,
Judah,
Edom,
Ammon, Moab, and all the inhabitants of the desert who
clip the hair of their temples. For all these nations are
uncircumcised, and the whole house of Israel is
uncircumcised in heart.”
Behold, the noise of the
bruit is come, and a great
commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of
Judah desolate, and a den of
dragons.
Listen! The sound of a report is coming— a great
commotion from the land to the north. The cities of
Judah will be made a
desolation, a
haunt for jackals.
Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;
“
Listen to the words of this covenant and tell them to the men of
Judah and the residents of Jerusalem.
Then the LORD said unto me,
Proclaim all these words in the cities of
Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.
Then the LORD said to me, “
Proclaim all these words in the cities of
Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying: Hear the words of this covenant and carry them out.
And the LORD said unto me, A
conspiracy is found among the men of
Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
And the LORD told me, “There is a
conspiracy among the men of
Judah and the residents of Jerusalem.
They are turned back to the
iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of
Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
They have returned to the sins of their forefathers who refused to obey My words. They have followed other gods to serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken the covenant I made with their fathers.
Then shall the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem go, and cry unto the gods unto whom they offer incense: but they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble.
Then the cities of
Judah and the residents of Jerusalem will go and cry out to the gods to which they have been burning incense, but these gods certainly will not save them in their time of
disaster.
For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O
Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have ye set up altars to that shameful thing, even altars to burn incense unto
Baal.
Your gods are indeed as numerous as your cities, O
Judah; the altars of shame you have set up—the altars to burn incense to
Baal—are as many as the streets of Jerusalem.’
For the LORD of hosts, that planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of
Judah, which they have done against themselves to
provoke me to anger in offering incense unto
Baal.
The LORD of Hosts, who planted you, has decreed
disaster against you on account of the evil that the house of Israel and the house of
Judah have brought upon themselves,
provoking Me to anger by burning incense to
Baal.”
Thus saith the LORD against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to
inherit; Behold, I will
pluck them out of their land, and
pluck out the house of
Judah from among them.
This is what the LORD says: “As for all My evil neighbors who attack the inheritance that I
bequeathed to My people Israel, I am about to
uproot them from their land, and I will
uproot the house of
Judah from among them.
Thus saith the LORD, After this manner will I
mar the pride of
Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.
“This is what the LORD says: In the same way I will ruin the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.
For as the
girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to
cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of
Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.
For just as a loincloth clings to a man’s
waist, so I have made the whole house of Israel and the whole house of
Judah cling to Me, declares the LORD, so that they might be My people for My
renown and praise and glory. But they did not
listen.
The cities of the south shall be shut up, and none shall open them:
Judah shall be carried away
captive all of it, it shall be wholly carried away
captive.
The cities of the Negev have been shut
tight, and no one can open them. All
Judah has been carried into exile, wholly taken
captive.
Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof
languish; they are black unto the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.
“
Judah mourns and her gates
languish. Her people
wail for the land, and a cry goes up from Jerusalem.
Hast thou utterly rejected
Judah? hath thy soul
lothed Zion? why hast thou
smitten us, and there is no
healing for us? we looked for peace, and there is no good; and for the time of
healing, and behold trouble!
Have You rejected
Judah completely? Do You
despise Zion? Why have You
stricken us so that we are beyond
healing? We hoped for peace, but no good has come, and for the time of
healing, but there was only terror.
And I will cause them to be removed into all kingdoms of the earth, because of
Manasseh the son of
Hezekiah king of
Judah, for that which he did in Jerusalem.
I will make them a
horror to all the kingdoms of the earth because of what
Manasseh son of
Hezekiah king of
Judah did in Jerusalem.
The sin of
Judah is written with a pen of iron, and with the point of a
diamond: it is
graven upon the table of their heart, and upon the horns of your altars;
“The sin of
Judah is written with an iron
stylus, engraved with a
diamond point on the tablets of their hearts and on the horns of their altars.
Thus said the LORD unto me; Go and stand in the gate of the children of the people, whereby the kings of Judah come in, and by the which they go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem;
This is what the LORD said to me: “Go and stand at the gate of the people, through which the kings of Judah go in and out; and stand at all the other gates of Jerusalem.
And say unto them, Hear ye the word of the LORD, ye kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, that enter in by these gates:
Say to them, ‘Hear the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, all people of Judah and Jerusalem who enter through these gates.
Then shall there enter into the gates of this city kings and princes sitting upon the throne of David, riding in
chariots and on horses, they, and their princes, the men of
Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem: and this city shall remain for ever.
then kings and princes will enter through the gates of this city. They will sit on the throne of David, riding in
chariots and on horses with their officials, along with the men of
Judah and the residents of Jerusalem, and this city will be inhabited
forever.
And they shall come from the cities of Judah, and from the places about Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the plain, and from the mountains, and from the south, bringing burnt offerings, and sacrifices, and meat offerings, and incense, and bringing sacrifices of praise, unto the house of the LORD.
And people will come from the cities of
Judah and the places around Jerusalem, from the land of Benjamin, and from the foothills, the hill country, and the Negev, bringing burnt offerings and sacrifices, grain offerings and
frankincense, and
thank offerings to the house of the LORD.
Now therefore go to, speak to the men of
Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and
devise a
device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.
Now therefore, tell the men of
Judah and the residents of Jerusalem that this is what the LORD says: ‘Behold, I am
planning a
disaster for you and
devising a plan against you. Turn now, each of you, from your evil ways, and correct your ways and deeds.’
And say, Hear ye the word of the LORD, O kings of
Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, the which
whosoever heareth, his ears shall
tingle.
saying, ‘Hear the word of the LORD, O kings of
Judah and residents of Jerusalem. This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: I am going to bring such
disaster on this place that the ears of all who hear of it will ring,
Because they have
forsaken me, and have
estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of
Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents;
because they have abandoned Me and made this a foreign place. They have burned incense in this place to other gods that neither they nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah have ever known. They have filled this place with the blood of the innocent.
And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hands of them that seek their lives: and their carcases will I give to be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.
And in this place I will ruin the plans of
Judah and Jerusalem. I will make them fall by the sword before their enemies, by the hands of those who seek their lives, and I will give their
carcasses as food to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth.
And the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of
Judah, shall be
defiled as the place of
Tophet, because of all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense unto all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink offerings unto other gods.
The houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of
Judah will be
defiled like that place, Topheth—all the houses on whose rooftops they burned incense to all the host of heaven and poured out drink offerings to other gods.”
For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will make thee a terror to
thyself, and to all thy friends: and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it: and I will give all
Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them
captive into Babylon, and shall
slay them with the sword.
For this is what the LORD says: ‘I will make you a terror to
yourself and to all your friends. They will fall by the sword of their enemies before your very eyes. And I will hand
Judah over to the king of Babylon, and he will carry them away to Babylon and put them to the sword.
Moreover I will deliver all the strength of this city, and all the labours thereof, and all the precious things thereof, and all the treasures of the kings of
Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, which shall
spoil them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.
I will give away all the wealth of this city—all its products and valuables, and all the treasures of the kings of
Judah—to their enemies. They will
plunder them, seize them, and carry them off to Babylon.
And afterward, saith the LORD, I will deliver
Zedekiah king of
Judah, and his servants, and the people, and such as are left in this city from the
pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those that seek their life: and he shall
smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not
spare them, neither have
pity, nor have mercy.
‘After that,’ declares the LORD, ‘I will hand over
Zedekiah king of
Judah, his officers, and the people in this city who
survive the plague and sword and famine, to
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and to their enemies who seek their lives. He will put them to the sword; he will not
spare them or show
pity or
compassion.’
And touching the house of the king of Judah, say, Hear ye the word of the LORD;
Moreover, tell the house of the king of Judah to hear the word of the LORD.
Thus saith the LORD; Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak there this word,
This is what the LORD says: “Go down to the palace of the king of
Judah and
proclaim this message there,
And say, Hear the word of the LORD, O king of Judah, that sittest upon the throne of David, thou, and thy servants, and thy people that enter in by these gates:
saying, ‘Hear the word of the LORD, O king of Judah, who sits on the throne of David—you and your officials and your people who enter these gates.
For thus saith the LORD unto the king’s house of
Judah; Thou art
Gilead unto me, and the head of
Lebanon: yet surely I will make thee a wilderness, and cities which are not inhabited.
For this is what the LORD says concerning the house of the king of
Judah: “You are like
Gilead to Me, like the summit of
Lebanon; but I will surely turn you into a desert, like cities that are uninhabited.
For thus saith the LORD touching Shallum the son of
Josiah king of
Judah, which reigned instead of
Josiah his father, which went forth out of this place; He shall not return thither any more:
For this is what the LORD says concerning Shallum son of
Josiah, king of
Judah, who succeeded his father
Josiah but has gone forth from this place: “He will never return,
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of
Judah; They shall not
lament for him, saying,
Ah my brother! or,
Ah sister! they shall not
lament for him, saying,
Ah lord! or,
Ah his glory!
As I live, saith the LORD, though Coniah the son of
Jehoiakim king of
Judah were the
signet upon my right hand, yet would I
pluck thee thence;
“As surely as I live,” declares the LORD, “even if you, Coniah son of
Jehoiakim king of
Judah, were a
signet ring on My right hand, I would pull you off.
Thus saith the LORD, Write ye this man childless, a man that shall not
prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall
prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in
Judah.
This is what the LORD says: “
Enroll this man as childless, a man who will not
prosper in his lifetime. None of his descendants will
prosper to sit on the throne of David or to rule again in
Judah.”
In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is His name by which He will be called: The LORD Our Righteousness.
The LORD shewed me, and, behold, two baskets of figs were set before the temple of the LORD, after that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had carried away
captive Jeconiah the son of
Jehoiakim king of
Judah, and the princes of
Judah, with the carpenters and smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon.
After
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had carried away Jeconiah son of
Jehoiakim king of
Judah, as well as the officials of
Judah and the
craftsmen and metalsmiths from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon, the LORD showed me two baskets of figs placed in front of the temple of the LORD.
Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge them that are carried away
captive of
Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans for their good.
“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Like these good figs, so I regard as good the exiles from Judah, whom I have sent away from this place to the land of the Chaldeans.
And as the evil figs, which cannot be eaten, they are so evil; surely thus saith the LORD, So will I give
Zedekiah the king of
Judah, and his princes, and the residue of Jerusalem, that remain in this land, and them that dwell in the land of Egypt:
But like the bad figs, so bad they cannot be eaten,’ says the LORD, ‘so will I deal with
Zedekiah king of
Judah, his officials, and the
remnant of Jerusalem—those remaining in this land and those living in the land of Egypt.
The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of
Judah in the fourth year of
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of
Judah, that was the first year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon;
This is the word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of
Judah in the fourth year of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah king of
Judah, which was the first year of
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.
The which Jeremiah the prophet spake unto all the people of Judah, and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying,
So the prophet Jeremiah spoke to all the people of Judah and all the residents of Jerusalem as follows:
From the
thirteenth year of
Josiah the son of Amon king of
Judah, even unto this day, that is the three and
twentieth year, the word of the LORD hath come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye have not
hearkened.
“From the
thirteenth year of
Josiah son of Amon king of
Judah until this very day—twenty-three years—the word of the LORD has come to me, and I have spoken to you again and again, but you have not
listened.
To wit, Jerusalem, and the cities of
Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them a
desolation, an
astonishment, an
hissing, and a
curse; as it is this day;
to make them a ruin, an object of
horror and contempt and
cursing, as they are to this day—Jerusalem and the cities of
Judah, its kings and officials;
In the beginning of the reign of
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of
Judah came this word from the LORD, saying,
At the beginning of the reign of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah king of
Judah, this word came from the LORD:
Thus saith the LORD; Stand in the court of the LORD’S house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD’S house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word:
“This is what the LORD says: Stand in the
courtyard of the house of the LORD and speak all the words I have commanded you to speak to all the cities of
Judah who come to worship there. Do not
omit a word.
When the princes of Judah heard these things, then they came up from the king’s house unto the house of the LORD, and sat down in the entry of the new gate of the LORD’S house.
When the officials of Judah heard these things, they went up from the king’s palace to the house of the LORD and sat there at the entrance of the New Gate.
Micah the Morasthite
prophesied in the days of
Hezekiah king of
Judah, and spake to all the people of
Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts;
Zion shall be
plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.
“
Micah the Moreshite
prophesied in the days of
Hezekiah king of
Judah and told all the people of
Judah that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘
Zion will be
plowed like a field, Jerusalem will become a
heap of
rubble, and the temple mount a wooded ridge.’
Did
Hezekiah king of
Judah and all
Judah put him at all to death? did he not fear the LORD, and
besought the LORD, and the LORD
repented him of the evil which he had pronounced against them? Thus might we
procure great evil against our souls.
Did
Hezekiah king of
Judah or
anyone else in
Judah put him to death? Did
Hezekiah not fear the LORD and seek His favor, and did not the LORD relent of the
disaster He had pronounced against them? But we are about to bring great
harm on ourselves!”
In the beginning of the reign of
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of
Judah came this word unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
At the beginning of the reign of
Zedekiah son of
Josiah king of
Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the LORD.
And send them to the king of
Edom, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the
Ammonites, and to the king of Tyrus, and to the king of Zidon, by the hand of the messengers which come to Jerusalem unto
Zedekiah king of
Judah;
Send word to the kings of
Edom, Moab,
Ammon, Tyre, and
Sidon through the envoys who have come to Jerusalem to
Zedekiah king of
Judah.
I spake also to
Zedekiah king of
Judah according to all these words, saying, Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, and live.
And to
Zedekiah king of
Judah I spoke the same message: “Put your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon; serve him and his people, and live!
But if they be prophets, and if the word of the LORD be with them, let them now make
intercession to the LORD of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of
Judah, and at Jerusalem, go not to Babylon.
If they are indeed prophets and the word of the LORD is with them, let them now
plead with the LORD of Hosts that the articles remaining in the house of the LORD, in the palace of the king of
Judah, and in Jerusalem, not be taken to Babylon.
Which
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took not, when he carried away
captive Jeconiah the son of
Jehoiakim king of
Judah from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of
Judah and Jerusalem;
which
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take when he carried Jeconiah son of
Jehoiakim king of
Judah into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon, along with all the nobles of
Judah and Jerusalem.
