And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim,
slew Maaseiah the
king’s son, and Azrikam the governor of the house, and Elkanah that was next to the
king.
Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, killed Maaseiah the son of the king, Azrikam the governor of the palace, and Elkanah the second to the king.
And the children of Israel carried away
captive of their brethren two hundred thousand, women, sons, and daughters, and took also away much
spoil from them, and brought the
spoil to Samaria.
Then the Israelites took 200,000
captives from their
kinsmen—women, sons, and daughters. They also carried off a great deal of
plunder and brought it to Samaria.
Now hear me therefore, and deliver the
captives again, which ye have taken
captive of your brethren: for the fierce wrath of the LORD is upon you.
Now therefore,
listen to me and return the
captives you took from your
kinsmen, for the fierce anger of the LORD is upon you.”
At that time did
king Ahaz send unto the
kings of Assyria to help him.
At that time
King Ahaz sent for help from the
king of Assyria.
For the LORD brought Judah low because of
Ahaz king of Israel; for he made Judah naked, and
transgressed sore against the LORD.
For the LORD humbled Judah because
Ahaz king of Israel had thrown off restraint in Judah and had been most unfaithful to the LORD.
And Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria came unto him, and distressed him, but strengthened him not.
For
Ahaz took away a portion out of the house of the LORD, and out of the house of the
king, and of the princes, and gave it unto the
king of Assyria: but he helped him not.
Although
Ahaz had taken a portion from the house of the LORD, from the royal palace, and from the princes and had presented it to the
king of Assyria, it did not help him.
And in the time of his distress did he
trespass yet more against the LORD: this is that
king Ahaz.
In the time of his distress,
King Ahaz became even more unfaithful to the LORD.
For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which
smote him: and he said, Because the gods of the
kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.
Since Damascus had defeated him, he sacrificed to their gods and said, “Because the gods of the
kings of
Aram have helped them, I will sacrifice to them that they may help me.” But these gods were the
downfall of
Ahaz and of all Israel.
Now the rest of his acts and of all his ways, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
As for the rest of the acts of
Ahaz and all his ways, from beginning to end, they are indeed written in the Book of the
Kings of Judah and Israel.
And
Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem: but they brought him not into the
sepulchres of the
kings of Israel: and
Hezekiah his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Ahaz rested with his fathers and was buried in the city of Jerusalem, but he was not placed in the tombs of the
kings of Israel. And his son
Hezekiah reigned in his place.
Hezekiah began to reign when he was five and twenty years old, and he reigned nine and twenty years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was
Abijah, the daughter of
Zechariah.
Hezekiah was twenty-five years old when he became
king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-nine years. His mother’s name was
Abijah, the daughter of
Zechariah.
And they gathered their brethren, and
sanctified themselves, and came, according to the commandment of the
king, by the words of the LORD, to
cleanse the house of the LORD.
When they had assembled their brothers and consecrated themselves, they went in to
cleanse the house of the LORD, according to the command of the
king by the words of the LORD.
Then they went in to
Hezekiah the
king, and said, We have
cleansed all the house of the LORD, and the altar of burnt offering, with all the vessels thereof, and the
shewbread table, with all the vessels thereof.
Then they went in to
King Hezekiah and reported, “We have
cleansed the entire house of the LORD, the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the table of the
showbread with all its utensils.
Moreover all the vessels, which
king Ahaz in his reign did cast away in his
transgression, have we prepared and
sanctified, and, behold, they are before the altar of the LORD.
Moreover, we have prepared and consecrated all the articles that
King Ahaz in his unfaithfulness cast aside during his reign. They are now in front of the altar of the LORD.”
Then
Hezekiah the
king rose early, and gathered the rulers of the city, and went up to the house of the LORD.
Early the next morning
King Hezekiah gathered the city officials and went up to the house of the LORD.
And they brought seven bullocks, and seven rams, and seven lambs, and seven he goats, for a sin offering for the kingdom, and for the sanctuary, and for Judah. And he commanded the priests the sons of Aaron to offer them on the altar of the LORD.
They brought seven bulls, seven rams, seven lambs, and seven male goats as a sin offering for the kingdom, for the sanctuary, and for Judah. And the king commanded the priests, the descendants of Aaron, to offer them on the altar of the LORD.
And they brought forth the he goats for the sin offering before the king and the congregation; and they laid their hands upon them:
Then they brought the goats for the sin offering before the king and the assembly, who laid their hands on them.
And the priests killed them, and they made
reconciliation with their blood upon the altar, to make an
atonement for all Israel: for the
king commanded that the burnt offering and the sin offering should be made for all Israel.
And the priests slaughtered the goats and put their blood on the altar for a sin offering, to make
atonement for all Israel, because the
king had ordered the burnt offering and the sin offering for all Israel.
And he set the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, with
psalteries, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of
Gad the
king’s
seer, and
Nathan the prophet: for so was the commandment of the LORD by his prophets.
Hezekiah stationed the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, harps, and lyres according to the command of David, of
Gad the
king’s
seer, and of
Nathan the prophet. For the command had come from the LORD through His prophets.
And
Hezekiah commanded to offer the burnt offering upon the altar. And when the burnt offering began, the song of the LORD began also with the
trumpets, and with the instruments ordained by David
king of Israel.
And
Hezekiah ordered that the burnt offering be sacrificed on the altar. When the burnt offering began, the song of the LORD and the
trumpets began as well, accompanied by the instruments of David
king of Israel.
And when they had made an end of offering, the king and all that were present with him bowed themselves, and worshipped.
When the offerings were completed, the king and all those present with him bowed down and worshiped.
Moreover
Hezekiah the
king and the princes commanded the Levites to sing praise unto the LORD with the words of David, and of
Asaph the
seer. And they
sang praises with
gladness, and they bowed their heads and worshipped.
Then
King Hezekiah and his officials ordered the Levites to sing praises to the LORD in the words of David and of
Asaph the
seer. So they
sang praises with
gladness and bowed their heads and worshiped.
For the
king had taken counsel, and his princes, and all the congregation in Jerusalem, to keep the
passover in the second month.
For the
king and his officials and the whole assembly in Jerusalem had decided to keep the
Passover in the second month,
And the thing pleased the king and all the congregation.
This proposal pleased the king and the whole assembly.
So the posts went with the letters from the
king and his princes throughout all Israel and Judah, and according to the commandment of the
king, saying, Ye children of Israel, turn again unto the LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, and he will return to the
remnant of you, that are escaped out of the hand of the
kings of Assyria.
So the couriers went throughout Israel and Judah with letters from the
king and his officials, which read: “Children of Israel, return to the LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, so that He may return to those of you who remain, who have escaped the
grasp of the
kings of Assyria.
Also in Judah the hand of God was to give them one heart to do the commandment of the king and of the princes, by the word of the LORD.
Moreover, the power of God was on the people in Judah to give them one heart to obey the command of the king and his officials according to the word of the LORD.
For
Hezekiah king of Judah did give to the congregation a thousand bullocks and seven thousand sheep; and the princes gave to the congregation a thousand bullocks and ten thousand sheep: and a great number of priests
sanctified themselves.
For
Hezekiah king of Judah contributed a thousand bulls and seven thousand sheep for the assembly, and the officials contributed a thousand bulls and ten thousand sheep for the assembly, and a great number of priests consecrated themselves.
So there was great joy in Jerusalem: for since the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israel there was not the like in Jerusalem.
So there was great
rejoicing in Jerusalem, for nothing like this had happened there since the days of Solomon son of David
king of Israel.
He appointed also the king’s portion of his substance for the burnt offerings, to wit, for the morning and evening burnt offerings, and the burnt offerings for the sabbaths, and for the new moons, and for the set feasts, as it is written in the law of the LORD.
The king contributed from his own possessions for the regular morning and evening burnt offerings and for the burnt offerings on the Sabbaths, New Moons, and appointed feasts, as written in the Law of the LORD.
And Jehiel, and Azaziah, and Nahath, and
Asahel, and Jerimoth, and Jozabad, and Eliel, and Ismachiah, and Mahath, and Benaiah, were overseers under the hand of Cononiah and Shimei his brother, at the commandment of
Hezekiah the
king, and
Azariah the ruler of the house of God.
Jehiel, Azaziah, Nahath,
Asahel, Jerimoth, Jozabad, Eliel, Ismachiah, Mahath, and Benaiah were overseers under the authority of Conaniah and his brother Shimei, by appointment of
King Hezekiah and of
Azariah the chief official of the house of God.
After these things, and the establishment thereof,
Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and
encamped against the
fenced cities, and thought to
win them for himself.
After all these acts of faithfulness,
Sennacherib king of Assyria came and invaded Judah. He laid siege to the fortified cities, intending to
conquer them for himself.
So there was gathered much people together, who stopped all the fountains, and the
brook that ran through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the
kings of Assyria come, and find much water?
Many people assembled and stopped up all the springs and the stream that flowed through the land. “Why should the
kings of Assyria come and find
plenty of water?” they said.
Be strong and
courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the
king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him:
“Be strong and
courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged before the
king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater One with us than with him.
With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of
Hezekiah king of Judah.
With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the LORD our God to help us and to fight our battles.” So the people were strengthened by the words of
Hezekiah king of Judah.
After this did
Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against
Lachish, and all his power with him,) unto
Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,
Later, as
Sennacherib king of Assyria and all his forces besieged
Lachish, he sent his servants to Jerusalem with a message for
King Hezekiah of Judah and all the people of Judah who were in Jerusalem:
“This is what
Sennacherib king of Assyria says: What is the basis of your confidence, that you remain in Jerusalem under siege?
Is not
Hezekiah misleading you to give you over to death by famine and
thirst when he says, ‘The LORD our God will deliver us from the hand of the
king of Assyria?’
Now therefore let not
Hezekiah deceive you, nor
persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him: for no god of any nation or
kingdom was able to deliver his people out of mine hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of mine hand?
So now, do not let
Hezekiah deceive you, and do not let him mislead you like this. Do not believe him, for no god of any nation or
kingdom has been able to deliver his people from my hand or from the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you from my hand!”
And for this cause
Hezekiah the
king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and
cried to heaven.
And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the
king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own
bowels slew him there with the sword.
and the LORD sent an angel who
annihilated every mighty man of
valor and every leader and commander in the camp of the
king of Assyria. So he withdrew to his own land in disgrace. And when he entered the temple of his god, some of his own sons struck him down with the sword.
Thus the LORD saved
Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of
Sennacherib the
king of Assyria, and from the hand of all other, and guided them on every side.
So the LORD saved
Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem from the hands of
King Sennacherib of Assyria and all the others, and He gave them rest on every side.
And many brought gifts unto the LORD to Jerusalem, and presents to
Hezekiah king of Judah: so that he was
magnified in the sight of all nations from
thenceforth.
Many brought offerings to Jerusalem for the LORD and valuable gifts for
Hezekiah king of Judah, and from then on he was
exalted in the eyes of all nations.
And
Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honour: and he made himself
treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant jewels;
Hezekiah had very great riches and honor, and he made
treasuries for his silver, gold, precious stones, spices, shields, and all
kinds of valuable articles.
Storehouses also for the increase of corn, and wine, and oil; and stalls for all manner of beasts, and
cotes for flocks.
He also made storehouses for the harvest of grain and new wine and oil, stalls for all
kinds of
livestock, and pens for the flocks.
Now the rest of the acts of
Hezekiah, and his goodness, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, and in the book of the
kings of Judah and Israel.
As for the rest of the acts of
Hezekiah and his deeds of loving devotion, they are indeed written in the vision of the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz in the Book of the
Kings of Judah and Israel.
Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem:
Manasseh was twelve years old when he became
king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-five years.
Wherefore the LORD brought upon them the captains of the host of the
king of Assyria, which took
Manasseh among the thorns, and bound him with
fetters, and carried him to Babylon.
So the LORD brought against them the military commanders of the
king of Assyria, who captured
Manasseh, put a hook in his nose, bound him with bronze
shackles, and took him to Babylon.
And prayed unto him: and he was intreated of him, and heard his
supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his
kingdom. Then
Manasseh knew that the LORD he was God.
And when he prayed to Him, the LORD received his
plea and heard his petition; so He brought him back to Jerusalem and to his
kingdom. Then
Manasseh knew that the LORD is God.
Now the rest of the acts of
Manasseh, and his prayer unto his God, and the words of the seers that spake to him in the name of the LORD God of Israel, behold, they are written in the book of the
kings of Israel.
As for the rest of the acts of
Manasseh, along with his prayer to his God and the words of the seers who spoke to him in the name of the LORD, the God of Israel, they are indeed written in the Chronicles of the
Kings of Israel.
Amon was two and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned two years in Jerusalem.
Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem two years.
But the people of the land
slew all them that had
conspired against
king Amon; and the people of the land made
Josiah his son
king in his
stead.
But the people of the land killed all those who had
conspired against
King Amon, and they made his son
Josiah king in his place.
Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem one and thirty years.
Josiah was eight years old when he became
king, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty-one years.
Even to the artificers and builders gave they it, to
buy hewn stone, and timber for couplings, and to floor the houses which the
kings of Judah had destroyed.
They also gave money to the carpenters and builders to
buy dressed stone, as well as timbers for couplings and beams for the buildings that the
kings of Judah had allowed to
deteriorate.
And Shaphan carried the book to the king, and brought the king word back again, saying, All that was committed to thy servants, they do it.
Then Shaphan brought the book to the king and reported, “Your servants are doing all that has been placed in their hands.
Then Shaphan the
scribe told the
king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath given me a book. And Shaphan read it before the
king.
Moreover, Shaphan the
scribe told the
king, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it in the presence of the
king.
And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the law, that he rent his clothes.
When the
king heard the words of the Law, he
tore his clothes
And the
king commanded Hilkiah, and
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Abdon the son of
Micah, and Shaphan the
scribe, and Asaiah a servant of the
king’s, saying,
and commanded Hilkiah,
Ahikam son of Shaphan, Abdon son of
Micah, Shaphan the
scribe, and Asaiah the servant of the
king:
And Hilkiah, and they that the
king had appointed, went to Huldah the
prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the
wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college:) and they spake to her to that effect.
So Hilkiah and those the
king had designated went and spoke to Huldah the
prophetess, the wife of Shallum son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, the keeper of the
wardrobe. She lived in Jerusalem, in the Second District.
Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah:
that this is what the LORD says: I am about to bring
calamity on this place and on its people, according to all the curses written in the book that has been read in the presence of the
king of Judah,
And as for the
king of Judah, who sent you to
enquire of the LORD, so shall ye say unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel concerning the words which thou hast heard;
But as for the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, tell him that this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘As for the words that you heard,
Behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of the same. So they brought the king word again.
‘Now I will indeed gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the
calamity that I will bring on this place and on its inhabitants.’” So they brought her answer back to the
king.
Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.
Then the king summoned all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.
And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, great and small: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of the LORD.
And he went up to the house of the LORD with all the people of Judah and Jerusalem, as well as the priests and the Levites—all the people small and great—and in their hearing he read all the words of the Book of the Covenant that had been found in the house of the LORD.
And the
king stood in his place, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments, and his
testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant which are written in this book.
So the
king stood by the
pillar and made a covenant before the LORD to follow the LORD and to keep His commandments, decrees, and statutes with all his heart and all his soul, and to carry out the words of this covenant that were written in this book.
And said unto the Levites that taught all Israel, which were holy unto the LORD, Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel did build; it shall not be a burden upon your shoulders: serve now the LORD your God, and his people Israel,
To the Levites who taught all Israel and were holy to the LORD,
Josiah said: “Put the holy ark in the temple built by Solomon son of David
king of Israel. It is not to be carried around on your shoulders. Now serve the LORD your God and His people Israel.
And prepare
yourselves by the houses of your fathers, after your courses, according to the writing of David
king of Israel, and according to the writing of Solomon his son.
Prepare
yourselves by families in your divisions, according to the instructions written by David
king of Israel and Solomon his son.
And stand in the holy place according to the divisions of the families of the fathers of your brethren the people, and after the division of the families of the Levites.
Moreover, stand in the Holy Place by the divisions of the families of your
kinsmen the lay people, and by the divisions of the families of the Levites.
And
Josiah gave to the people, of the flock, lambs and kids, all for the
passover offerings, for all that were present, to the number of thirty thousand, and three thousand bullocks: these were of the
king’s substance.
From his own flocks and herds
Josiah contributed 30,000 lambs and goats
plus 3,000 bulls for the
Passover offerings for all the people who were present.
So the service was prepared, and the priests stood in their place, and the Levites in their courses, according to the king’s commandment.
So the service was prepared; the priests stood in their places and the Levites in their divisions according to the king’s command.
And the singers the sons of
Asaph were in their place, according to the commandment of David, and
Asaph, and Heman, and
Jeduthun the
king’s
seer; and the
porters waited at every gate; they might not depart from their service; for their brethren the Levites prepared for them.
The singers, the descendants of
Asaph, were at their stations according to the command of David,
Asaph, Heman, and
Jeduthun the
king’s
seer. And the gatekeepers at each gate did not need to leave their position, because their fellow Levites made preparations for them.
So all the service of the LORD was prepared the same day, to keep the
passover, and to offer burnt offerings upon the altar of the LORD, according to the commandment of
king Josiah.
So on that day the entire service of the LORD was carried out for
celebrating the
Passover and offering burnt offerings on the altar of the LORD, according to the command of
King Josiah.
And there was no
passover like to that kept in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet; neither did all the
kings of Israel keep such a
passover as
Josiah kept, and the priests, and the Levites, and all Judah and Israel that were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
No such
Passover had been observed in Israel since the days of Samuel the prophet. None of the
kings of Israel ever observed a
Passover like the one that
Josiah observed with the priests, the Levites, all Judah, the Israelites who were present, and the people of Jerusalem.
After all this, when
Josiah had prepared the temple,
Necho king of Egypt came up to fight against Charchemish by Euphrates: and
Josiah went out against him.
After all this, when
Josiah had set the temple in order, Neco
king of Egypt marched up to fight at Carchemish by the Euphrates, and
Josiah went out to
confront him.
But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, What have I to do with thee, thou
king of Judah? I come not against thee this day, but against the house
wherewith I have war: for God commanded me to make
haste:
forbear thee from
meddling with God, who is with me, that he destroy thee not.
But Neco sent messengers to him, saying, “What is the issue between you and me, O
king of Judah? I have not come against you
today, but I am fighting another dynasty. God told me to
hurry; so stop
opposing God, who is with me, or He will destroy you!”
And the archers shot at
king Josiah; and the
king said to his servants, Have me away; for I am
sore wounded.
There the archers shot
King Josiah, who said to his servants, “Take me away, for I am badly wounded!”
And his deeds, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.
his acts from beginning to end—they are indeed written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah.
Then the people of the land took
Jehoahaz the son of
Josiah, and made him
king in his father’s
stead in Jerusalem.
Then the people of the land took
Jehoahaz son of
Josiah and made him
king in Jerusalem in place of his father.
Jehoahaz was twenty and three years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem.
Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he became
king, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months.
And the king of Egypt put him down at Jerusalem, and condemned the land in an hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.
And the
king of Egypt
dethroned him in Jerusalem and imposed on Judah a
levy of a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.
And the
king of Egypt made Eliakim his brother
king over Judah and Jerusalem, and turned his name to
Jehoiakim. And
Necho took
Jehoahaz his brother, and carried him to Egypt.
Then Neco
king of Egypt made Eliakim brother of
Jehoahaz king over Judah and Jerusalem, and he changed Eliakim’s name to
Jehoiakim. But Neco took Eliakim’s brother
Jehoahaz and carried him off to Egypt.
Jehoiakim was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: and he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God.
Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became
king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. And he did evil in the sight of the LORD his God.
Now the rest of the acts of
Jehoiakim, and his abominations which he did, and that which was found in him, behold, they are written in the book of the
kings of Israel and Judah: and
Jehoiachin his son reigned in his
stead.
As for the rest of the acts of
Jehoiakim, the abominations he committed, and all that was found against him, they are indeed written in the Book of the
Kings of Israel and Judah. And his son
Jehoiachin reigned in his place.
Jehoiachin was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem: and he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD.
Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became
king, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months and ten days. And he did evil in the sight of the LORD.
And when the year was
expired,
king Nebuchadnezzar sent, and brought him to Babylon, with the goodly vessels of the house of the LORD, and made
Zedekiah his brother
king over Judah and Jerusalem.
In the spring,
King Nebuchadnezzar summoned
Jehoiachin and brought him to Babylon, along with the articles of value from the house of the LORD. And he made
Jehoiachin’s relative
Zedekiah king over Judah and Jerusalem.
Zedekiah was one and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned eleven years in Jerusalem.
Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became
king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years.
Therefore he brought upon them the
king of the Chaldees, who
slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no
compassion upon young man or
maiden, old man, or him that
stooped for age: he gave them all into his hand.
So He brought up against them the
king of the Chaldeans, who put their young men to the sword in the sanctuary,
sparing neither young men nor young women, neither elderly nor infirm. God gave them all into the hand of
Nebuchadnezzar,
And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small, and the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king, and of his princes; all these he brought to Babylon.
who carried off everything to Babylon—all the articles of the house of God, both large and small, and the treasures of the house of the LORD and of the king and his officials.
And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon; where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia:
Those who escaped the sword were carried by
Nebuchadnezzar into exile in Babylon, and they became servants to him and his sons until the
kingdom of Persia came to power.
Now in the first year of Cyrus
king of Persia, that the word of the LORD spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD
stirred up the spirit of Cyrus
king of Persia, that he made a
proclamation throughout all his
kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,
In the first year of Cyrus
king of Persia, to
fulfill the word of the LORD spoken through Jeremiah, the LORD
stirred the spirit of Cyrus
king of Persia to send a
proclamation throughout his
kingdom and to put it in writing as follows:
Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth hath the LORD God of heaven given me; and he hath charged me to build him an house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people? The LORD his God be with him, and let him go up.
“This is what Cyrus
king of Persia says: ‘The LORD, the God of heaven, who has given me all the
kingdoms of the earth, has appointed me to build a house for Him at Jerusalem in Judah.
Whoever among you belongs to His people, may the LORD his God be with him, and may he go up.’”
Now in the first year of Cyrus
king of Persia, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD
stirred up the spirit of Cyrus
king of Persia, that he made a
proclamation throughout all his
kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,
In the first year of Cyrus
king of Persia, to
fulfill the word of the LORD spoken through Jeremiah, the LORD
stirred the spirit of Cyrus
king of Persia to send a
proclamation throughout his
kingdom and to put it in writing as follows:
Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The LORD God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.
“This is what Cyrus king of Persia says: ‘The LORD, the God of heaven, who has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, has appointed me to build a house for Him at Jerusalem in Judah.
Also Cyrus the
king brought forth the vessels of the house of the LORD, which
Nebuchadnezzar had brought forth out of Jerusalem, and had put them in the house of his gods;
King Cyrus also brought out the articles belonging to the house of the LORD that
Nebuchadnezzar had carried away from Jerusalem and placed in the temple of his gods.
Even those did Cyrus
king of Persia bring forth by the hand of Mithredath the
treasurer, and numbered them unto Sheshbazzar, the prince of Judah.
Cyrus
king of Persia had them brought out by the hand of Mithredath the
treasurer, who counted them out to Sheshbazzar the prince of Judah.
Now these are the children of the province that went up out of the captivity, of those which had been carried away, whom
Nebuchadnezzar the
king of Babylon had carried away unto Babylon, and came again unto Jerusalem and Judah, every one unto his city;
Now these are the people of the province who came up from the captivity of the exiles carried away to Babylon by
Nebuchadnezzar its
king. They returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his own town,
They gave money also unto the masons, and to the carpenters; and meat, and drink, and oil, unto them of Zidon, and to them of Tyre, to bring
cedar trees from
Lebanon to the sea of
Joppa, according to the grant that they had of Cyrus
king of Persia.
They gave money to the masons and carpenters, and food and drink and oil to the people of
Sidon and Tyre to bring
cedar logs from
Lebanon to
Joppa by sea, as authorized by Cyrus
king of Persia.
And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, they set the priests in their
apparel with
trumpets, and the Levites the sons of
Asaph with cymbals, to praise the LORD, after the
ordinance of David
king of Israel.
When the builders had laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, the priests in their
apparel with
trumpets, and the Levites (the sons of
Asaph) with cymbals, took their positions to praise the LORD, as David
king of Israel had prescribed.
