Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:
For the Day of the LORD of Hosts will come against all the proud and lofty, against all that is
exalted— it will be humbled—
And upon all the cedars of
Lebanon, that are high and
lifted up, and upon all the oaks of
Bashan,
against all the cedars of
Lebanon, lofty and
lifted up, against all the oaks of
Bashan,
And upon all the high mountains, and upon all the hills that are lifted up,
against all the tall mountains, against all the high hills,
In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and
exalted; and the train of His
robe filled the temple.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the
anointing.
On that day the burden will be lifted from your shoulders, and the yoke from your neck. The yoke will be broken because your neck will be too large.
LORD, when thy hand is
lifted up, they will not see: but they shall see, and be
ashamed for their
envy at the people;
yea, the fire of thine enemies shall
devour them.
O LORD, Your hand is upraised, but they do not see it. They will see Your zeal for Your people and be put to shame. The fire set for Your enemies will
consume them!
Whom hast thou reproached and
blasphemed? and against whom hast thou
exalted thy voice, and
lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel.
Whom have you
taunted and
blasphemed? Against whom have you raised your voice and
lifted your eyes in pride? Against the Holy One of Israel!
Every valley shall be
exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the
crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
Every valley shall be
lifted up, and every mountain and hill made low; the uneven ground will become smooth, and the
rugged land a plain.
Behold, My Servant will
prosper; He will be raised and
lifted up and highly
exalted.
For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth
eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a
contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the
contrite ones.
For thus says the One who is high and
lifted up, who inhabits
eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in a high and holy place, and with the
oppressed and humble in spirit, to restore the spirit of the lowly and revive the heart of the
contrite.
In all their
affliction he was
afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his
pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.
In all their distress, He too was
afflicted, and the Angel of His Presence saved them. In His love and
compassion He redeemed them; He
lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.
So they drew up Jeremiah with cords, and took him up out of the
dungeon: and Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
and they pulled him up with the ropes and
lifted him out of the
cistern. And Jeremiah remained in the
courtyard of the guard.
We would have
healed Babylon, but she is not
healed:
forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country: for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is
lifted up even to the
skies.
“We tried to
heal Babylon, but she could not be
healed.
Abandon her! Let each of us go to his own land, for her judgment extends to the sky and reaches to the clouds.”
And it came to pass in the seven and
thirtieth year of the captivity of
Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the
twelfth month, in the five and
twentieth day of the month, that Evil-merodach king of Babylon in the first year of his reign
lifted up the head of
Jehoiachin king of Judah, and brought him forth out of prison,
On the twenty-fifth day of the
twelfth month of the thirty-seventh year of the exile of
Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the first year of the reign of Evil-merodach king of Babylon, he
pardoned Jehoiachin king of Judah and released him from prison.
And when the living creatures went, the wheels went by them: and when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up.
So as the living creatures moved, the wheels moved beside them, and when the creatures rose from the ground, the wheels also rose.
Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went, thither was their spirit to go; and the wheels were
lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.
Wherever the spirit would go, they would go, and the wheels would rise
alongside them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.
When those went, these went; and when those stood, these stood; and when those were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.
When the creatures moved, the wheels moved; when the creatures stood still, the wheels stood still; and when the creatures rose from the ground, the wheels rose
alongside them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.
Then the spirit took me up, and I heard behind me a voice of a great
rushing, saying, Blessed be the glory of the LORD from his place.
Then the Spirit
lifted me up, and I heard a great
rumbling sound behind me: ‘Blessed be the glory of the LORD in His dwelling place!’
So the spirit lifted me up, and took me away, and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; but the hand of the LORD was strong upon me.
So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness and in the anger of my spirit, with the strong hand of the LORD upon me.
And he put forth the form of an hand, and took me by a
lock of mine head; and the spirit
lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the inner gate that looketh toward the north; where was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provoketh to jealousy.
He stretched out what looked like a hand and took me by the hair of my head. Then the Spirit
lifted me up between earth and heaven and carried me in visions of God to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the north gate of the inner court, where the
idol that provokes jealousy was seated.
Then said he unto me, Son of man, lift up thine eyes now the way toward the north. So I lifted up mine eyes the way toward the north, and behold northward at the gate of the altar this image of jealousy in the entry.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “now lift up your eyes to the north.” So I
lifted up my eyes to the north, and in the entrance north of the Altar Gate I saw this
idol of jealousy.
And the cherubims were
lifted up. This is the living creature that I saw by the river of
Chebar.
Then the
cherubim rose upward. These were the living creatures I had seen by the River Kebar.
And when the cherubims went, the wheels went by them: and when the cherubims lifted up their wings to mount up from the earth, the same wheels also turned not from beside them.
When the
cherubim moved, the wheels moved beside them, and even when they spread their wings to rise from the ground, the wheels did not
veer away from their side.
When they stood, these stood; and when they were lifted up, these lifted up themselves also: for the spirit of the living creature was in them.
When the
cherubim stood still, the wheels also stood still, and when they ascended, the wheels ascended with them, for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.
And the cherubims lifted up their wings, and mounted up from the earth in my sight: when they went out, the wheels also were beside them, and every one stood at the door of the east gate of the LORD’S house; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above.
As I watched, the
cherubim lifted their wings and rose up from the ground, with the wheels beside them as they went. And they stopped at the entrance of the east gate of the house of the LORD, with the glory of the God of Israel above them.
Moreover the spirit lifted me up, and brought me unto the east gate of the LORD’S house, which looketh eastward: and behold at the door of the gate five and twenty men; among whom I saw Jaazaniah the son of Azur, and Pelatiah the son of Benaiah, the princes of the people.
Then the Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the gate of the house of the LORD that faces east. And there at the entrance of the gate were twenty-five men. Among them I saw Jaazaniah son of Azzur and Pelatiah son of Benaiah, who were leaders of the people.
Afterwards the spirit took me up, and brought me in a vision by the Spirit of God into
Chaldea, to them of the captivity. So the vision that I had seen went up from me.
And the Spirit
lifted me up and carried me back to
Chaldea, to the exiles in the vision given by the Spirit of God. After the vision had gone up from me,
And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath
lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath
defiled his neighbour’s wife, neither hath come near to a
menstruous woman,
He does not eat at the mountain or look to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not
defile his
neighbor’s wife or approach a woman during her period.
He oppresses the poor and
needy; he commits
robbery and does not restore a
pledge. He lifts his eyes to idols; he commits abominations.
That hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath
lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not
defiled his neighbour’s wife,
He does not eat at the mountain or look to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not
defile his
neighbor’s wife.
And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day when I chose Israel, and lifted up mine hand unto the seed of the house of Jacob, and made myself known unto them in the land of Egypt, when I lifted up mine hand unto them, saying, I am the LORD your God;
and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: On the day I chose Israel, I
swore an oath to the descendants of the house of Jacob and made Myself known to them in the land of Egypt. With an
uplifted hand I said to them, ‘I am the LORD your God.’
In the day that I
lifted up mine hand unto them, to bring them forth of the land of Egypt into a land that I had
espied for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands:
On that day I
swore to bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, a land flowing with milk and honey, the glory of all lands.
Yet also I lifted up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands;
Moreover, with an
uplifted hand I
swore to them in the wilderness that I would not bring them into the land that I had given them—a land flowing with milk and honey, the glory of all lands—
I
lifted up mine hand unto them also in the wilderness, that I would
scatter them among the heathen, and
disperse them through the countries;
However, with an
uplifted hand I
swore to them in the wilderness that I would
scatter them among the nations and
disperse them throughout the lands.
For when I had brought them into the land, for the which I
lifted up mine hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the
provocation of their offering: there also they made their sweet savour, and poured out there their drink offerings.
When I brought them into the land that I
swore to give them and they saw any high hill or
leafy tree, there they offered their sacrifices, presented offerings that
provoked Me, sent up their
fragrant incense, and poured out their drink offerings.
And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall bring you into the land of Israel, into the country for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to your fathers.
Then you will know that I am the LORD, when I bring you into the land of Israel, the land that I
swore to give your fathers.
Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God:
“Son of man, tell the ruler of Tyre that this is what the Lord GOD says: Your heart is proud, and you have said, ‘I am a god; I sit in the seat of gods in the heart of the sea.’ Yet you are a man and not a god, though you have regarded your heart as that of a god.
By thy great wisdom and by thy
traffick hast thou increased thy riches, and thine heart is
lifted up because of thy riches:
By your great skill in trading you have increased your wealth, but your heart has grown proud because of it.
Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
Your heart grew proud of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom because of your
splendor; so I cast you to the earth; I made you a
spectacle before kings.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast
lifted up
thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is
lifted up in his height;
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Since it became great in height and set its top among the clouds, and it grew proud on account of its height,
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I have lifted up mine hand, Surely the heathen that are about you, they shall bear their shame.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: I have
sworn with an
uplifted hand that surely the nations around you will
endure reproach of their own.
So the spirit took me up, and brought me into the inner court; and, behold, the glory of the LORD filled the house.
Then the Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.
Because they ministered unto them before their idols, and caused the house of Israel to fall into iniquity; therefore have I lifted up mine hand against them, saith the Lord GOD, and they shall bear their iniquity.
Because they ministered before their idols and became a
stumbling block of iniquity to the house of Israel, therefore I
swore with an
uplifted hand concerning them that they would bear the consequences of their iniquity, declares the Lord GOD.
And ye shall
inherit it, one as well as another: concerning the which I
lifted up mine hand to give it unto your fathers: and this land shall fall unto you for inheritance.
You are to divide it equally among them. Because I
swore with an
uplifted hand to give it to your forefathers, this land will fall to you as an inheritance.
And at the end of the days I
Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an
everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:
But at the end of those days I,
Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven, and my
sanity was restored to me. Then I praised the Most High, and I honored and
glorified Him who lives
forever: “For His dominion is an
everlasting dominion, and His kingdom endures from generation to generation.
But when his heart was
lifted up, and his mind
hardened in pride, he was
deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:
But when his heart became
arrogant and his spirit was
hardened with pride, he was
deposed from his royal throne, and his glory was taken from him.
But hast
lifted up
thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have
drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not
glorified:
Instead, you have
exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven. The vessels from His house were brought to you, and as you
drank wine from them with your nobles, wives, and concubines, you praised your gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you have failed to
glorify the God who holds in His hand your very breath and all your ways.
Then was the king exceeding
glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of
hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.
The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den, and when Daniel was
lifted out of the den, no wounds
whatsoever were found on him, because he had trusted in his God.
The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings: I
beheld till the wings thereof were
plucked, and it was
lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man’s heart was given to it.
The first beast was like a lion, and it had the wings of an eagle. I watched until its wings were
torn off and it was
lifted up from the ground and made to stand on two feet like a man, and given the mind of a man.
Then I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last.
Then I lifted up my eyes and saw a ram with two horns standing beside the canal. The horns were long, but one was longer than the other, and the longer one grew up later.
Then I
lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were
girded with fine gold of Uphaz:
I
lifted up my eyes, and behold, there was a certain man dressed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his
waist.
And when he hath taken away the multitude, his heart shall be lifted up; and he shall cast down many ten thousands: but he shall not be strengthened by it.
When the army is carried off, the king of the South will be proud in heart and will cast down tens of thousands, but he will not triumph.
I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love: and I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws, and I laid meat unto them.
I led them with cords of kindness, with ropes of love; I lifted the yoke from their necks and bent down to feed them.
Thine hand shall be
lifted up upon thine
adversaries, and all thine enemies shall be cut off.
Your hand will be lifted over your foes, and all your enemies will be cut off.
Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
Look at the proud one; his soul is not upright— but the righteous will live by faith—
The mountains saw thee, and they
trembled: the overflowing of the water passed by: the deep uttered his voice, and
lifted up his hands on high.
The mountains saw You and
quaked; torrents of water swept by. The deep
roared with its voice and
lifted its hands on high.
Then lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns.
Then I looked up and saw four horns.
Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these are come to
fray them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles, which
lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to
scatter it.
“What are these coming to do?” I asked. And He replied, “These are the horns that scattered Judah so that no one could raise his head; but the
craftsmen have come to
terrify them and throw down these horns of the nations that have
lifted up their horns against the land of Judah to
scatter it.”
I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand.
Then I lifted up my eyes and saw a man with a measuring line in his hand.
Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a flying roll.
Again I
lifted up my eyes and saw before me a flying
scroll.
And, behold, there was
lifted up a talent of lead: and this is a woman that sitteth in the midst of the
ephah.
And behold, the cover of lead was raised, and there was a woman sitting inside the
basket.
Then
lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a
stork: and they
lifted up the
ephah between the earth and the heaven.
Then I
lifted up my eyes and saw two women approaching, with the wind in their wings. Their wings were like those of a
stork, and they
lifted up the
basket between heaven and earth.
And I turned, and
lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came four
chariots out from between two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of brass.
And again I
lifted up my eyes and saw four
chariots coming out from between two mountains—mountains of bronze.
And the LORD their God shall save them in that day as the flock of his people: for they shall be as the stones of a crown,
lifted up as an
ensign upon his land.
On that day the LORD their God will save them as the flock of His people; for like jewels in a crown they will
sparkle over His land.
All the land shall be turned as a plain from Geba to
Rimmon south of Jerusalem: and it shall be
lifted up, and inhabited in her place, from Benjamin’s gate unto the place of the first gate, unto the corner gate, and from the tower of Hananeel unto the king’s winepresses.
All the land from Geba to
Rimmon south of Jerusalem will be turned into a plain, but Jerusalem will be raised up and will remain in her place, from the Benjamin Gate to the site of the First Gate to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the royal winepresses.
And thou,
Capernaum, which art
exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to
hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in
Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
And you,
Capernaum, will you be
lifted up to heaven? No, you will be brought down to Hades! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in
Sodom, it would have remained to this day.
And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
And when they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.
Jesus answered and said unto them,
Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
“Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “if you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen.
And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.
So He went to her, took her by the hand, and helped her up. The fever left her, and she began to serve them.
But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him to his feet, and he stood up.
For
verily I say unto you, That
whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have
whatsoever he saith.
“Truly I tell you that if
anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be
lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and has no doubt in his heart but believes that it will happen, it will be done for him.
And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
Looking up at His disciples, Jesus said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
And you,
Capernaum, will you be
lifted up to heaven? No, you will be brought down to Hades!
And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company
lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the
womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast
sucked.
As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said, “Blessed is the
womb that bore You, and blessed are the breasts that
nursed You!”
And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
and raised their voices,
shouting, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”
And he led them out as far as to
Bethany, and he
lifted up his hands, and blessed them.
When Jesus had led them out as far as
Bethany, He
lifted up His hands and blessed them.
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
Just as Moses
lifted up the
snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be
lifted up,
When Jesus then
lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we
buy bread, that these may eat?
When Jesus looked up and saw a large crowd coming toward Him, He said to Philip, “Where can we
buy bread for these people to eat?”
So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
When they continued to question Him, He
straightened up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to cast a stone at her.”
When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
Then Jesus
straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are your accusers? Has no one condemned you?”
Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing on My own, but speak exactly what the Father has taught Me.
Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus
lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I
thank thee that thou hast heard me.
So they took away the stone. Then Jesus
lifted His eyes upward and said, “Father, I
thank You that You have heard Me.
And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
And I, when I am
lifted up from the earth, will draw
everyone to Myself.”
The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?
The crowd replied, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ will remain
forever. So how can You say that the Son of Man must be
lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?”
I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath
lifted up his
heel against me.
I am not speaking about all of you; I know whom I have chosen. But this is to
fulfill the Scripture: ‘The one who shares My bread has
lifted up his
heel against Me.’
These words spake Jesus, and
lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come;
glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may
glorify thee:
When Jesus had spoken these things, He
lifted up His eyes to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come.
Glorify Your Son, that Your Son may
glorify You.
Now there was set a vessel full of
vinegar: and they filled a
spunge with
vinegar, and put it upon
hyssop, and put it to his mouth.
But Peter, standing up with the eleven,
lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and
hearken to my words:
Then Peter stood up with the Eleven,
lifted up his voice, and addressed the crowd: “Men of
Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and
listen carefully to my words.
And he took him by the right hand, and
lifted him up: and immediately his feet and
ankle bones received strength.
Taking him by the right hand, Peter helped him up, and at once the man’s feet and ankles were made strong.
And when they heard that, they
lifted up their voice to God with one
accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:
When the believers heard this, they
lifted up their voices to God with one
accord. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “You made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them.
And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive.
Peter took her by the hand and helped her up. Then he called the saints and widows and presented her to them alive.
And when the people saw what Paul had done, they
lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of
Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.
When the crowds saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices in the Lycaonian language: “The gods have come down to us in human form!”
And they gave him
audience unto this word, and then
lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.
The crowd
listened to Paul until he made this statement. Then they
lifted up their voices and
shouted, “Rid the earth of him! He is not fit to live!”
But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same
vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which
vail is done away in Christ.
But their minds were closed. For to this day the same
veil remains at the reading of the old covenant. It has not been
lifted, because only in Christ can it be removed.
He must not be a recent convert, or he may become
conceited and fall under the same
condemnation as the devil.
And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven,
Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land lifted up his right hand to heaven.
Now when this young man was gone forth, he lifted up his face to heaven toward Jerusalem, and praised the King of heaven,
Or ever the heights of the air were
lifted up, before the measures of the
firmament were named, or ever the
chimneys in
Sion were hot,
And, lo, as he saw the violence of the multitude that came, he neither lifted up his hand, nor held sword, nor any instrument of war:
Now therefore, if thy people that dwelleth in the mountains had not set light by me, I would not have
lifted up my
spear against them: but they have done these things to themselves.
