Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
The LORD was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the LORD.
The LORD will save me; we will play songs on stringed instruments all the days of our lives in the house of the LORD.
Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold: all these gather themselves together, and come to thee. As I
live, saith the LORD, thou shalt surely
clothe thee with them all, as with an ornament, and bind them on thee, as a
bride doeth.
Lift up your eyes and look around. They all gather together; they come to you. As surely as I
live,” declares the LORD, “you will wear them all as
jewelry and put them on like a
bride.
The children which thou shalt have, after thou hast lost the other, shall say again in thine ears, The place is too strait for me: give place to me that I may dwell.
Yet the children of your
bereavement will say in your hearing, ‘This place is too small for us; make room for us to
live here.’
And forgettest the LORD thy maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and hast feared continually every day because of the
fury of the
oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? and where is the
fury of the
oppressor?
But you have forgotten the LORD, your Maker, who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth. You
live in terror all day long because of the
fury of the
oppressor who is bent on destruction. But where is the
fury of the
oppressor?
For thus saith the Lord GOD, My people went down
aforetime into Egypt to
sojourn there; and the Assyrian
oppressed them without cause.
For this is what the Lord GOD says: “At first My people went down to Egypt to
live, then Assyria
oppressed them without cause.
Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall
live; and I will make an
everlasting covenant with you, even the sure
mercies of David.
Incline your ear and come to Me;
listen, so that your soul may
live. I will make with you an
everlasting covenant— My loving devotion promised to David.
There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the
sinner being an hundred years old shall be
accursed.
No longer will a
nursing infant
live but a few days, or an old man fail to
live out his years. For the youth will die at a hundred years, and he who fails to reach a hundred will be considered
accursed.
Then the LORD said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.
Then the LORD said to me, “
Disaster from the north will be poured out on all who
live in the land.
Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of
drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?
They did not ask, ‘Where is the LORD who brought us up from the land of Egypt, who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and pits, a land of
drought and darkness, a land where no one travels and no one
lives?’
And thou shalt
swear, The LORD
liveth, in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall
bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.
and if you can
swear, ‘As surely as the LORD
lives,’ in truth, in justice, and in righteousness, then the nations will be blessed by Him, and in Him they will glory.”
And though they say, The LORD
liveth; surely they
swear falsely.
Although they say, ‘As surely as the LORD
lives,’ they are
swearing falsely.”
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel,
Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.
Thus says the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel: Correct your ways and deeds, and I will let you live in this place.
Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.
then I will let you
live in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers
forever and ever.
Gather up thy wares out of the land, O inhabitant of the fortress.
Gather up your belongings from this land, you who live under siege.
Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I
plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore
doth the way of the wicked
prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very
treacherously?
Righteous are You, O LORD, when I
plead before You. Yet about Your judgments I wish to
contend with You: Why does the way of the wicked
prosper? Why do all the faithless
live at ease?
And it shall come to pass, if they will
diligently learn the ways of my people, to
swear by my name, The LORD
liveth; as they taught my people to
swear by
Baal; then shall they be built in the midst of my people.
And if they will
diligently learn the ways of My people and
swear by My name, saying, ‘As surely as the LORD
lives’—just as they once taught My people to
swear by
Baal—then they will be established among My people.
Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David’s throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with
drunkenness.
then you are to tell them that this is what the LORD says: ‘I am going to fill with
drunkenness all who
live in this land—the kings who sit on David’s throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the people of Jerusalem.
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be said, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
Yet behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when they will no longer say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of Egypt.’
But, The LORD
liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands
whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.
Instead they will say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of the north and all the other lands to which He had banished them.’ For I will return them to their land that I gave to their forefathers.
For he shall be like the
heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the
parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.
He will be like a
shrub in the desert; he will not see when prosperity comes. He will dwell in the
parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one
lives.
And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hands of them that seek their lives: and their carcases will I give to be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.
And in this place I will ruin the plans of Judah and Jerusalem. I will make them fall by the sword before their enemies, by the hands of those who seek their
lives, and I will give their
carcasses as food to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth.
And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend in the siege and straitness,
wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their
lives, shall
straiten them.
I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and daughters, and they will eat one another’s flesh in the siege and distress inflicted on them by their enemies who seek their lives.’
And thou, Pashur, and all that dwell in thine house shall go into captivity: and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and shalt be buried there, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast
prophesied lies.
And you, Pashhur, and all who
live in your house, will go into captivity. You will go to Babylon, and there you will die and be buried—you and all your friends to whom you have
prophesied these lies.’”
And afterward, saith the LORD, I will deliver
Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, and such as are left in this city from the
pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those that seek their life: and he shall
smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not
spare them, neither have
pity, nor have mercy.
‘After that,’ declares the LORD, ‘I will hand over
Zedekiah king of Judah, his officers, and the people in this city who
survive the plague and sword and famine, to
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and to their enemies who seek their
lives. He will put them to the sword; he will not
spare them or show
pity or
compassion.’
He that abideth in this city shall die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the
pestilence: but he that goeth out, and falleth to the Chaldeans that
besiege you, he shall
live, and his life shall be unto him for a prey.
Whoever stays in this city will die by sword and famine and plague, but
whoever goes out and surrenders to the Chaldeans who
besiege you will
live; he will retain his life like a
spoil of war.
As I
live, saith the LORD, though Coniah the son of
Jehoiakim king of Judah were the
signet upon my right hand, yet would I
pluck thee thence;
“As surely as I
live,” declares the LORD, “even if you, Coniah son of
Jehoiakim king of Judah, were a
signet ring on My right hand, I would pull you off.
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that they shall no more say, The LORD liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
So behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when they will no longer say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of Egypt.’
But, The LORD
liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries
whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.
Instead they will say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought and led the descendants of the house of Israel up out of the land of the north and all the other lands to which He had banished them.’ Then they will dwell once more in their own land.”
I spake also to
Zedekiah king of Judah according to all these words, saying, Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, and
live.
And to
Zedekiah king of Judah I spoke the same message: “Put your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon; serve him and his people, and
live!
Hearken not unto them; serve the king of Babylon, and
live: wherefore should this city be laid waste?
Do not
listen to them. Serve the king of Babylon and
live! Why should this city become a ruin?
I will even give them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them that seek their life: and their dead bodies shall be for meat unto the fowls of the heaven, and to the beasts of the earth.
I will deliver into the hands of their enemies who seek their lives. Their corpses will become food for the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth.
And
Zedekiah king of Judah and his princes will I give into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them that seek their life, and into the hand of the king of Babylon’s army, which are gone up from you.
And I will deliver
Zedekiah king of Judah and his officials into the hands of their enemies who seek their
lives, to the army of the king of Babylon that had withdrawn from you.
Neither shall ye build house, nor
sow seed, nor plant
vineyard, nor have any: but all your days ye shall dwell in tents; that ye may
live many days in the land where ye be strangers.
Nor are you ever to build a house or
sow seed or plant a
vineyard. Those things are not for you. Instead, you must
live in tents all your
lives, so that you may
live a long time in the land where you
wander.’
Thus have we obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab our father in all that he hath charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, nor our daughters;
And we have obeyed the voice of our
forefather Jonadab son of Rechab in all he commanded us. So we have not
drunk wine all our
lives—neither we nor our wives nor our sons and daughters.
Nor to build houses for us to dwell in: neither have we
vineyard, nor field, nor seed:
Nor have we built houses in which to live, and we have not owned any vineyards or fields or crops.
But we have dwelt in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.
But we have
lived in tents and have obeyed and done exactly as our
forefather Jonadab commanded us.
I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and
amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor
hearkened unto me.
Again and again I have sent you all My servants the prophets,
proclaiming: ‘Turn now, each of you, from your wicked ways, and correct your actions. Do not go after other gods to serve them.
Live in the land that I have given to you and your fathers.’ But you have not inclined your ear or
listened to Me.
Thus saith the LORD, He that remaineth in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the
pestilence: but he that goeth forth to the Chaldeans shall
live; for he shall have his life for a prey, and shall
live.
“This is what the LORD says:
Whoever stays in this city will die by sword and famine and plague, but
whoever surrenders to the Chaldeans will
live; he will retain his life like a
spoil of war, and he will
live.
So
Zedekiah the king
sware secretly unto Jeremiah, saying, As the LORD
liveth, that made us this soul, I will not put thee to death, neither will I give thee into the hand of these men that seek thy life.
But King
Zedekiah swore secretly to Jeremiah, “As surely as the LORD
lives, who has given us this life, I will not kill you, nor will I deliver you into the hands of these men who are seeking your life.”
Then said Jeremiah unto
Zedekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; If thou
wilt assuredly go forth unto the king of Babylon’s princes, then thy soul shall
live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt
live, and thine house:
Then Jeremiah said to
Zedekiah, “This is what the LORD God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you indeed surrender to the officers of the king of Babylon, then you will
live, this city will not be burned down, and you and your household will
survive.
But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver thee. Obey, I
beseech thee, the voice of the LORD, which I speak unto thee: so it shall be well unto thee, and thy soul shall
live.
“They will not hand you over,” Jeremiah replied. “Obey the voice of the LORD in what I am telling you, that it may go well with you and you may live.
And Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan
sware unto them and to their men, saying, Fear not to serve the Chaldeans: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.
Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan,
swore an oath to them and their men,
assuring them, “Do not be afraid to serve the Chaldeans.
Live in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it will go well with you.
As for me, behold, I will dwell at
Mizpah to serve the Chaldeans, which will come unto us: but ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.
As for me, I will stay in
Mizpah to represent you before the Chaldeans who come to us. As for you, gather wine grapes, summer fruit, and oil, place them in your
storage jars, and
live in the cities you have taken.”
Saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the
trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell:
and if you say, ‘No, but we will go to the land of Egypt and live there, where we will not see war or hear the sound of the ram’s horn or hunger for bread,’
For I will
punish them that dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and by the
pestilence:
I will
punish those who
live in the land of Egypt, just as I punished Jerusalem, by sword and famine and plague,
So that none of the
remnant of Judah, which are gone into the land of Egypt to
sojourn there, shall escape or remain, that they should return into the land of Judah, to the which they have a desire to return to dwell there: for none shall return but such as shall escape.
so that none of the
remnant of Judah who have gone to reside in Egypt will escape or
survive to return to the land of Judah, where they long to return and
live; for none will return except a few fugitives.”
Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have
sworn by my great name, saith the LORD, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord GOD
liveth.
Nevertheless, hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah living in Egypt: Behold, I have
sworn by My great name, says the LORD, that never again will any man of Judah living in the land of Egypt
invoke My name or say, ‘As surely as the Lord GOD
lives.’
As I
live, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts, Surely as
Tabor is among the mountains, and as
Carmel by the sea, so shall he come.
As surely as I
live, declares the King, whose name is the LORD of Hosts, there will come one who is like
Tabor among the mountains and like
Carmel by the sea.
And I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants: and afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, saith the LORD.
I will deliver them into the hands of those who seek their
lives—of
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and his officers. But after this, Egypt will be inhabited as in days of old, declares the LORD.
Flee, save your
lives, and be like the
heath in the wilderness.
‘
Flee! Run for your
lives! Become like a
juniper in the desert.’
Leave thy fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let thy widows trust in me.
Abandon your orphans; I will preserve their
lives. Let your widows trust in Me.”
Arise, get you up unto the wealthy nation, that dwelleth without care, saith the LORD, which have neither gates nor bars, which dwell alone.
Rise up, advance against a nation at ease, one that dwells securely,” declares the LORD. “They have no gates or bars; they live alone.
For I will cause
Elam to be dismayed before their enemies, and before them that seek their life: and I will bring evil upon them even my fierce anger, saith the LORD; and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them:
So I will
shatter Elam before their foes, before those who seek their
lives. I will bring
disaster upon them, even My fierce anger,” declares the LORD. “I will send out the sword after them until I finish them off.
For out of the north there cometh up a nation against her, which shall make her land
desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they shall remove, they shall depart, both man and beast.
For a nation from the north will come against her; it will make her land a
desolation. No one will
live in it; both man and beast will
flee.”
Their
Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is his name: he shall throughly
plead their cause, that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.
Their
Redeemer is strong; the LORD of Hosts is His name. He will
fervently plead their case so that He may bring rest to the earth, but
turmoil to those who
live in Babylon.
A sword is upon the Chaldeans, saith the LORD, and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men.
A sword is against the Chaldeans, declares the LORD, against those who live in Babylon, and against her officials and wise men.
Therefore the wild beasts of the desert with the wild beasts of the islands shall dwell there, and the owls shall dwell therein: and it shall be no more inhabited for ever; neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation.
So the desert creatures and
hyenas will
live there and ostriches will dwell there. It will never again be inhabited or
lived in from generation to generation.
Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the LORD’S
vengeance; he will render unto her a recompence.
Flee from Babylon! Escape with your
lives! Do not be destroyed in her punishment. For this is the time of the LORD’s
vengeance; He will pay her what she deserves.
Her cities are a
desolation, a dry land, and a wilderness, a land wherein no man dwelleth, neither
doth any son of man pass thereby.
Her cities have become a
desolation, a dry and
arid land, a land where no one
lives, where no son of man passes through.
My people, go ye out of the midst of her, and deliver ye every man his soul from the fierce anger of the LORD.
Come out of her, My people! Save your lives, each of you, from the fierce anger of the LORD.
Mine eyes do fail with tears, my
bowels are troubled, my
liver is poured upon the earth, for the destruction of the daughter of my people; because the children and the sucklings
swoon in the streets of the city.
My eyes fail from
weeping; I am
churning within. My heart is poured out in grief over the destruction of the daughter of my people, because children and infants
faint in the streets of the city.
They say to their mothers, Where is corn and wine? when they
swooned as the wounded in the streets of the city, when their soul was poured out into their mothers’
bosom.
They cry out to their mothers: “Where is the grain and wine?” as they
faint like the wounded in the streets of the city, as their
lives fade away in the arms of their mothers.
All thine enemies have opened their mouth against thee: they hiss and
gnash the teeth: they say, We have
swallowed her up: certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it.
All your enemies open their mouths against you. They hiss and
gnash their teeth, saying, “We have
swallowed her up. This is the day for which we have waited. We have
lived to see it!”
Arise, cry out in the night: in the beginning of the watches pour out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children, that
faint for hunger in the top of every street.
Arise, cry out in the night from the first watch of the night. Pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to Him for the
lives of your children who are
fainting from hunger on the corner of every street.
The breath of our nostrils, the
anointed of the LORD, was taken in their pits, of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall
live among the heathen.
The LORD’s
anointed, the breath of our life, was captured in their pits. We had said of him, “Under his shadow we will
live among the nations.”
We
gat our bread with the
peril of our
lives because of the sword of the wilderness.
We get our bread at the risk of our lives because of the sword in the wilderness.
Nevertheless if thou
warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he
doth not sin, he shall surely
live, because he is
warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul.
But if you
warn the righteous man not to sin, and he does not sin, he will indeed
live because he
heeded your
warning, and you will have saved
yourself.”
Wherefore, as I
live, saith the Lord GOD; Surely, because thou hast
defiled my sanctuary with all thy
detestable things, and with all thine abominations, therefore will I also diminish thee; neither shall mine eye
spare, neither will I have any
pity.
Therefore as surely as I
live, declares the Lord GOD, because you have
defiled My sanctuary with all your
detestable idols and abominations, I Myself will withdraw My favor; I will not look upon you with
pity, nor will I
spare you.
In all your dwellingplaces the cities shall be laid waste, and the high places shall be
desolate; that your altars may be laid waste and made
desolate, and your idols may be broken and cease, and your images may be cut down, and your works may be abolished.
Wherever you
live, the cities will be laid waste and the high places will be
demolished, so that your altars will be laid waste and
desecrated, your idols
smashed and
obliterated, your incense altars cut down, and your works
blotted out.
So will I stretch out my hand upon them, and make the land
desolate,
yea, more
desolate than the wilderness toward Diblath, in all their habitations: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
I will stretch out My hand against them, and wherever they
live I will make the land a
desolate waste, from the wilderness to Diblah. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’”
But they that escape of them shall escape, and shall be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them
mourning, every one for his iniquity.
The survivors will escape and
live in the mountains,
moaning like doves of the valley, each for his own iniquity.
And will ye
pollute me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to
slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not
live, by your lying to my people that hear your lies?
You have
profaned Me among My people for handfuls of barley and scraps of bread. By lying to My people who would
listen, you have killed those who should not have died and
spared those who should not have
lived.
Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous
sad, whom I have not made
sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:
Because you have
disheartened the righteous with your lies, even though I have caused them no grief, and because you have encouraged the wicked not to turn from their evil ways to save their
lives,
Though these three men were in it, as I
live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters; they only shall be delivered, but the land shall be
desolate.
then as surely as I
live, declares the Lord GOD, even if these three men were in it, they could not deliver their own sons or daughters. They alone would be delivered, but the land would be
desolate.
Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only shall be delivered themselves.
then as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, even if these three men were in it, they could not deliver their own sons or daughters. They alone would be delivered.
Though
Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I
live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.
then as surely as I
live, declares the Lord GOD, even if
Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, they could not deliver their own sons or daughters. Their righteousness could deliver only themselves.
And when I passed by thee, and saw thee
polluted in thine own blood, I said unto thee when thou
wast in thy blood,
Live;
yea, I said unto thee when thou
wast in thy blood,
Live.
Then I passed by and saw you
wallowing in your blood, and as you lay there in your blood I said to you, ‘
Live!’ There I said to you, ‘
Live!’
And thine elder sister is Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell at thy left hand: and thy younger sister, that dwelleth at thy right hand, is
Sodom and her daughters.
Your older sister was Samaria, who
lived with her daughters to your north; and your younger sister was
Sodom, who
lived with her daughters to your south.
As I
live, saith the Lord GOD,
Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters.
As surely as I
live, declares the Lord GOD, your sister
Sodom and her daughters never did as you and your daughters have done.
As I
live, saith the Lord GOD, surely in the place where the king dwelleth that made him king, whose oath he
despised, and whose covenant he
brake, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die.
‘As surely as I
live,’ declares the Lord GOD, ‘he will die in Babylon, in the land of the king who enthroned him, whose oath he
despised and whose covenant he broke.
Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company make for him in the war, by casting up mounts, and building forts, to cut off many persons:
Pharaoh with his mighty army and vast
horde will not help him in battle, when ramps are built and siege walls constructed to destroy many
lives.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As I
live, surely mine oath that he hath
despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, even it will I
recompense upon his own head.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘As surely as I
live, I will bring down upon his head My oath that he
despised and My covenant that he broke.
As I
live, saith the Lord GOD, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this
proverb in Israel.
As surely as I
live, declares the Lord GOD, you will no longer
quote this
proverb in Israel.
Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord GOD.
He follows My statutes and faithfully keeps My ordinances. That man is righteous; surely he will live, declares the Lord GOD.
Hath given forth upon
usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then
live? he shall not
live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.
He engages in
usury and takes excess interest. Will this son
live? He will not! Since he has committed all these abominations, he will surely die; his blood will be on his own head.
That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received
usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely
live.
He withholds his hand from
harming the poor and takes no interest or
usury. He keeps My ordinances and follows My statutes. Such a man will not die for his father’s iniquity. He will surely
live.
Yet say ye, Why?
doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely
live.
Yet you may ask, ‘Why shouldn’t the son bear the iniquity of his father?’ Since the son has done what is just and right, carefully observing all My statutes, he will surely live.
But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
But if the wicked man turns from all the sins he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is just and right, he will surely live; he will not die.
All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.
None of the transgressions he has committed will be held against him. Because of the righteousness he has practiced, he will live.
Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?
Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Lord GOD. Wouldn’t I
prefer that he turn from his ways and
live?
But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he
live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his
trespass that he hath
trespassed, and in his sin that he hath
sinned, in them shall he die.
But if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and practices iniquity,
committing the same abominations as the wicked, will he
live? None of the righteous acts he did will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness and sin he has committed, he will die.
Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
Because he considered and turned from all the transgressions he had committed, he will surely live; he will not die.
For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn
yourselves, and
live ye.
For I take no pleasure in
anyone’s death, declares the Lord GOD. So
repent and
live!
Son of man, speak unto the elders of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye come to
enquire of me? As I
live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be enquired of by you.
“Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: Have you come to inquire of Me? As surely as I live, I will not be consulted by you, declares the Lord GOD.
And I gave them my statutes, and shewed them my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them.
And I gave them My statutes and made known to them My ordinances—for the man who does these things will live by them.
But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they
despised my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even
live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly
polluted: then I said, I would pour out my
fury upon them in the wilderness, to
consume them.
Yet the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness. They did not follow My statutes and they rejected My ordinances—though the man who does these things will
live by them—and they utterly
profaned My Sabbaths. Then I resolved to pour out My wrath upon them and put an end to them in the wilderness.
Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which if a man do, he shall even
live in them; they
polluted my sabbaths: then I said, I would pour out my
fury upon them, to
accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness.
But the children rebelled against Me. They did not walk in My statutes or carefully observe My ordinances—though the man who does these things will
live by them—and they
profaned My Sabbaths. So I resolved to pour out My wrath upon them and
vent My anger against them in the wilderness.
Wherefore I gave them also statutes that were not good, and judgments whereby they should not live;
I also gave them over to statutes that were not good and ordinances by which they could not live.
For when ye offer your gifts, when ye make your sons to pass through the fire, ye
pollute yourselves with all your idols, even unto this day: and shall I be enquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I
live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be enquired of by you.
When you offer your gifts, sacrificing your sons in the fire, you continue to
defile yourselves with all your idols to this day. So should I be consulted by you, O house of Israel? As surely as I
live, declares the Lord GOD, I will not be consulted by you!
As I
live, saith the Lord GOD, surely with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with
fury poured out, will I rule over you:
As surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, with a strong hand, an outstretched arm, and outpoured wrath I will rule over you.
