After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of
Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself.
Later, by the Sea of
Tiberias, Jesus again revealed Himself to the disciples. He
made Himself known in this way:
The former treatise have I
made, O
Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,
In my first book, O
Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach,
Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
You have made known to me the paths of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence.’
Therefore let all the house of Israel know
assuredly, that God hath
made that same Jesus, whom ye have
crucified, both Lord and Christ.
Therefore let all Israel know with certainty that God has
made this Jesus, whom you
crucified, both Lord and Christ!”
And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and
ankle bones received strength.
Taking him by the right hand, Peter helped him up, and at once the man’s feet and ankles were made strong.
And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why
marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or
holiness we had
made this man to walk?
And when Peter saw this, he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why are you surprised by this? Why do you
stare at us as if by our own power or
godliness we had
made this man walk?
And his name through faith in his name hath
made this man strong, whom ye see and know:
yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.
By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know has been
made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through Him that has given him this complete
healing in your presence.
Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.
And you are sons of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers when He said to Abraham, ‘Through your offspring all the families of the earth will be blessed.’
If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the
impotent man, by what means he is
made whole;
If we are being examined
today about a kind service to a man who was
lame, to determine how he was
healed,
And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one
accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast
made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:
When the believers heard this, they lifted up their voices to God with one
accord. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “You
made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them.
And laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.
and lay them at the apostles’ feet for distribution to
anyone as he had need.
And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,
And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.
and
rescued him from all his troubles. He granted Joseph favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt, who appointed him ruler over Egypt and all his household.
And at the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren; and Joseph’s kindred was made known unto Pharaoh.
On their second visit, Joseph revealed his identity to his brothers, and his family became known to Pharaoh.
But he that did his neighbour wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us?
But the man who was
abusing his
neighbor pushed Moses aside and said, ‘Who
made you ruler and judge over us?
Then fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land of
Madian, where he
begat two sons.
At this remark, Moses fled to the land of
Midian, where he lived as a foreigner and had two sons.
This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who
made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the
bush.
This Moses, whom they had rejected with the words, ‘Who
made you ruler and judge?’ is the one whom God sent to be their ruler and
redeemer through the angel who appeared to him in the
bush.
And they
made a
calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the
idol, and
rejoiced in the works of their own hands.
At that time they
made a
calf and offered a sacrifice to the
idol,
rejoicing in the works of their hands.
Yea, ye took up the tabernacle of
Moloch, and the star of your god
Remphan, figures which ye
made to worship them: and I will carry you away beyond Babylon.
You have taken along the tabernacle of
Molech and the star of your god Rephan, the idols you
made to worship. Therefore I will send you into exile beyond Babylon.’
Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples
made with hands; as saith the prophet,
However, the Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands. As the prophet says:
Hath not my hand made all these things?
Has not My hand made all these things?’
God-fearing men buried Stephen and
mourned deeply over him.
As for Saul, he
made havock of the church, entering into every house, and
haling men and women committed them to prison.
But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he
dragged off men and women and put them in prison.
Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him
weeping, and
shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas
made, while she was with them.
So Peter got up and went with them. On his arrival, they took him to the upper room. All the widows stood around him,
weeping and showing him the tunics and other clothing that Dorcas had
made while she was still with them.
And he became very
hungry, and would have eaten: but while they
made ready, he fell into a
trance,
He became
hungry and wanted something to eat, but while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a
trance.
And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath
cleansed, that call not thou common.
The voice spoke to him a second time: “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”
Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from
Cornelius had
made enquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate,
While Peter was
puzzling over the meaning of the vision, the men sent by
Cornelius found Simon’s house and approached the gate.
But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath
cleansed, that call not thou common.
But the voice spoke from heaven a second time, ‘Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.’
Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.
So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was
fervently praying to God for him.
And they said unto her, Thou art
mad. But she constantly
affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.
“You are out of your mind,” they told her. But when she kept
insisting it was so, they said, “It must be his angel.”
And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and
Sidon: but they came with one
accord to him, and, having
made Blastus the king’s
chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was
nourished by the king’s country.
Now Herod was in a
furious dispute with the people of Tyre and
Sidon, and they
convened before him. Having secured the support of Blastus, the king’s
chamberlain, they asked for peace, because their region depended on the king’s country for food.
On the appointed day, Herod
donned his royal robes, sat on his throne, and addressed the people.
The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and
exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it.
The God of the people of Israel chose our fathers. He
made them into a great people during their stay in Egypt, and with an
uplifted arm He led them out of that land.
And we declare unto you
glad tidings, how that the promise which was
made unto the fathers,
And now we
proclaim to you the good news: What God promised our fathers
For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.
For this is what the Lord has commanded us: ‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles, to bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’”
But the unbelieving Jews
stirred up the Gentiles, and
made their minds evil affected against the brethren.
But the unbelieving Jews
stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers.
And when there was an
assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them
despitefully, and to stone them,
But when the Gentiles and Jews, together with their rulers, set out to mistreat and stone them,
And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and
preach unto you that ye should turn from these
vanities unto the living God, which
made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:
“Men, why are you doing this? We too are only men, human like you. We are bringing you good news that you should turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made heaven and earth and sea and everything in them.
And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to
Lystra, and to
Iconium, and Antioch,
They preached the gospel to that city and
made many disciples. Then they returned to
Lystra,
Iconium, and Antioch,
And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
After much discussion, Peter got up and said to them, “Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you that the Gentiles would hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe.
And put no difference between us and them,
purifying their hearts by faith.
He
made no distinction between us and them, for He
cleansed their hearts by faith.
And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was
wont to be
made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.
On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate along the river, where it was customary to find a place of prayer. After sitting down, we spoke to the women who had gathered there.
Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.
On receiving this order, he placed them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.
God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples made by human hands.
And hath
made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their
habitation;
From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their lands.
And when
Gallio was the deputy of
Achaia, the Jews
made insurrection with one
accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,
And Paul after this
tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him
Priscilla and
Aquila; having
shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a
vow.
Paul remained in Corinth for quite some time before saying goodbye to the brothers. He had his head
shaved in Cenchrea to keep a
vow he had
made, and then he sailed for Syria, accompanied by
Priscilla and
Aquila.
Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:
And you can see and hear that not only in Ephesus, but in nearly the whole province of Asia, Paul has persuaded a great number of people to turn away. He says that man-made gods are no gods at all.
And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander
beckoned with the hand, and would have
made his defence unto the people.
The Jews in the crowd pushed Alexander forward to explain himself, and he motioned for silence so he could make his
defense to the people.
Take
heed therefore unto
yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath
made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
Keep watch over
yourselves and the entire flock of which the Holy Spirit has
made you overseers. Be
shepherds of the church of God, which He purchased with His own blood.
Then Paul took the men, and the next day
purifying himself with them entered into the temple, to
signify the
accomplishment of the days of
purification, until that an offering should be offered for every one of them.
So the next day Paul took the men and
purified himself along with them. Then he entered the temple to give notice of the date when their
purification would be complete and the offering would be
made for each of them.
Art not thou that Egyptian, which before these days
madest an
uproar, and leddest out into the wilderness four thousand men that were murderers?
“Aren’t you the Egyptian who incited a rebellion some time ago and led four thousand members of the ‘
Assassins’ into the wilderness?”
And when he had given him licence, Paul stood on the stairs, and
beckoned with the hand unto the people. And when there was
made a great silence, he spake unto them in the Hebrew tongue, saying,
Having received permission, Paul stood on the steps and motioned to the crowd. A great
hush came over the crowd, and he addressed them in Hebrew:
And it came to pass, that, as I
made my journey, and was come
nigh unto Damascus about
noon, suddenly there
shone from heaven a great light round about me.
About
noon as I was approaching Damascus, suddenly a bright light from heaven
flashed around me.
And they gave him
audience unto this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.
The crowd
listened to Paul until he
made this statement. Then they lifted up their voices and
shouted, “Rid the earth of him! He is not fit to live!”
And they were more than forty which had
made this
conspiracy.
More than forty of them were involved in this plot.
While he answered for himself, Neither against the law of the Jews, neither against the temple, nor yet against Caesar, have I
offended any thing at all.
Then Paul
made his
defense: “I have committed no
offense against the law of the Jews or against the temple or against Caesar.”
And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers:
And now I stand on trial because of my hope in the promise that God made to our fathers,
And I punished them
oft in every
synagogue, and compelled them to
blaspheme; and being exceedingly
mad against them, I
persecuted them even unto strange cities.
I frequently had them punished in the synagogues, and I tried to make them
blaspheme. In my
raging fury against them, I even went to foreign cities to
persecute them.
And as he thus spake for himself,
Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside
thyself; much learning
doth make thee
mad.
But he said, I am not
mad, most noble
Festus; but speak forth the words of truth and
soberness.
But Paul answered, “I am not
insane, most excellent
Festus; I am speaking words of truth and
sobriety.
And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the sea, and loosed the
rudder bands, and hoised up the
mainsail to the wind, and
made toward shore.
Cutting away the anchors, they left them in the sea as they
loosened the ropes that held the rudders. Then they
hoisted the
foresail to the wind and
made for the
beach.
And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,
They disagreed among themselves and began to leave after Paul had made this final statement: “The Holy Spirit was right when He spoke to your fathers through Isaiah the prophet:
Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;
regarding His Son, who was a
descendant of David according to the flesh,
Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
For what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are
made, even his eternal power and
Godhead; so that they are without
excuse:
For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from His
workmanship, so that men are without
excuse.
And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image
made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and
fourfooted beasts, and
creeping things.
and exchanged the glory of the
immortal God for images of
mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;
What then? Are we any better? Not at all. For we have already made the charge that Jews and Greeks alike are all under sin.
For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:
For if those who live by the law are heirs, faith is useless and the promise is worthless,
(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.” He is our father in the presence of God, in whom he believed, the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being what does not yet exist.
For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.
But now being
made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto
holiness, and the end
everlasting life.
But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the fruit you
reap leads to
holiness, and the outcome is eternal life.
Was then that which is good
made death unto me? God
forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.
Did that which is good, then, become death to me? Certainly not! But in order that sin might be exposed as sin, it produced death in me through what was good, so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set you free from the law of sin and death.
For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
For the creation was subjected to
futility, not by its own will, but because of the One who subjected it, in hope
Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou
made me thus?
But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? Shall what is formed say to Him who formed it, “Why did You make me like this?”
And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of
Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as
Sodoma, and been
made like unto Gomorrha.
It is just as Isaiah
foretold: “Unless the Lord of Hosts had left us descendants, we would have become like
Sodom, we would have resembled
Gomorrah.”
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
For with your heart you believe and are justified, and with your mouth you
confess and are saved.
But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.
And Isaiah boldly says: “I was found by those who did not seek Me; I revealed Myself to those who did not ask for Me.”
And David saith, Let their table be
made a
snare, and a
trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them:
It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is
offended, or is
made weak.
It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything to cause your brother to
stumble.
Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the
circumcision for the truth of God, to
confirm the promises
made unto the fathers:
For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the
circumcised on behalf of God’s truth, to
confirm the promises
made to the patriarchs,
It hath pleased them
verily; and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been
made partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister unto them in
carnal things.
They were pleased to do it, and indeed they owe it to them. For if the Gentiles have shared in their spiritual blessings, they are
obligated to minister to them with material blessings.
But now is
made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the
everlasting God,
made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:
but now revealed and made known through the writings of the prophets by the command of the eternal God, in order to lead all nations to the obedience that comes from faith—
For Christ sent me not to
baptize, but to
preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be
made of none effect.
For Christ did not send me to
baptize, but to
preach the gospel, not with words of wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be
emptied of its power.
Where is the wise? where is the
scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God
made foolish the wisdom of this world?
Where is the wise man? Where is the
scribe? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God
made foolish the wisdom of the world?
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is
made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and
sanctification, and
redemption:
It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God: our righteousness,
holiness, and
redemption.
I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
I planted the seed and Apollos watered it, but God made it grow.
Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.
his
workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work.
For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are
made a
spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.
For it seems to me that God has displayed us apostles at the end of the
procession, like prisoners appointed for death. We have become a
spectacle to the whole world, to angels as well as to men.
Being
defamed, we intreat: we are
made as the
filth of the world, and are the
offscouring of all things unto this day.
when we are
slandered, we answer gently. Up to this moment we have become the
scum of the earth, the refuse of the world.
Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather.
Were you a slave when you were called? Do not let it
concern you—but if you can gain your freedom, take the opportunity.
For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
Though I am free of obligation to
anyone, I make myself a slave to
everyone, to
win as many as possible.
To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
To the weak I became weak, to
win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.
For there must be also
heresies among you, that they which are approved may be
made manifest among you.
And indeed, there must be differences among you to show which of you are approved.
For by one Spirit are we all
baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all
made to drink into one Spirit.
For in one Spirit we were all
baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free, and we were all given one Spirit to drink.
If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?
So if the whole church comes together and
everyone speaks in tongues, and some who are
uninstructed or some unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your minds?
