Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of
honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we
may appoint over this business.
Therefore, brothers, select from among you seven men confirmed to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will
appoint this
responsibility to them
Saying, Give me also this power, that on
whomsoever I lay hands, he
may receive the Holy Ghost.
“Give me this power as well,” he said, “so that
everyone on whom I lay my hands
may receive the Holy Spirit.”
But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.
But Peter replied, “
May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could
buy the gift of God with money!
Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart
may be
forgiven thee.
Repent, therefore, of your wickedness, and pray to the Lord. Perhaps He will
forgive you for the intent of your heart.
Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.
Then Simon answered, “Pray to the Lord for me, so that nothing you have said may happen to me.”
And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
And
Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.
So
Ananias went to the house, and when he arrived, he placed his hands on Saul. “Brother Saul,” he said, “the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here, has sent me so that you
may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”
That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.
so that the
remnant of men
may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles who are called by My name, says the Lord who does these things
And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace.
The
jailer informed Paul: “The magistrates have sent orders to release you. Now you
may go on your way in peace.”
And they took him, and brought him unto
Areopagus, saying,
May we know what this new doctrine,
whereof thou speakest, is?
So they took Paul and brought him to the
Areopagus, where they asked him, “
May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting?
For we are in danger to be called in question for this day’s
uproar, there being no cause whereby we
may give an account of this
concourse.
But none of these things move me, neither count I my life
dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to
testify the gospel of the grace of God.
But I consider my life of no value to me, if only I
may finish my course and complete the ministry I have received from the Lord Jesus—the ministry of
testifying to the good news of God’s grace.
Them take, and
purify thyself with them, and be at charges with them, that they
may shave their heads: and all
may know that those things,
whereof they were informed concerning thee, are nothing; but that thou
thyself also walkest orderly, and keepest the law.
Take these men,
purify yourself along with them, and pay their expenses so they can have their heads
shaved. Then
everyone will know that there is no truth to these rumors about you, but that you also live in obedience to the law.
And as Paul was to be led into the castle, he said unto the chief captain, May I speak unto thee? Who said, Canst thou speak Greek?
As they were about to take Paul into the
barracks, he asked the commander, “
May I say something to you?” “Do you speak Greek?” he replied.
And provide them beasts, that they
may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto
Felix the governor.
Provide mounts for Paul to take him safely to Governor
Felix.”
Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom
thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things,
whereof we
accuse him.
By examining him
yourself, you will be able to learn the truth about all our charges against him.”
Because that thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship.
You can
verify for
yourself that no more than twelve days ago I went up to Jerusalem to worship.
And as he reasoned of righteousness,
temperance, and judgment to come
Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.
As Paul
expounded on righteousness, self-control, and the coming judgment,
Felix became
frightened and said, “You
may go for now. When I find the time, I will call for you.”
For if I be an
offender, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die: but if there be none of these things
whereof these
accuse me, no man
may deliver me unto them. I appeal unto Caesar.
If, however, I am guilty of anything worthy of death, I do not refuse to die. But if there is no truth to their accusations against me, no one has the right to hand me over to them. I appeal to Caesar!”
Of whom I have no certain thing to write unto my lord. Wherefore I have brought him forth before you, and specially before thee, O king
Agrippa, that, after examination had, I might have somewhat to write.
I have nothing definite to write to our sovereign one about him. Therefore I have brought him before all of you, and especially before you, King
Agrippa, so that after this inquiry I
may have something to write.
To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of
Satan unto God, that they
may receive
forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are
sanctified by faith that is in me.
to open their eyes, so that they
may turn from darkness to light and from the power of
Satan to God, that they
may receive
forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those
sanctified by faith in Me.’
And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds.
“Short time or long,” Paul replied, “I wish to God that not only you but all who hear me this day may become what I am, except for these chains.”
Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.
in my prayers at all times, asking that now at last by God’s will I may succeed in coming to you.
For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;
For I long to see you so that I
may impart to you some spiritual gift to
strengthen you,
That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.
that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.
Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
For what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.
God
forbid:
yea, let God be true, but every man a
liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
Certainly not! Let God be true and every man a
liar. As it is written: “So that You
may be proved right when You speak and victorious when You judge.”
And not rather, (as we be
slanderously reported, and as some
affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good
may come? whose
damnation is just.
Why not say, as some
slanderously claim that we say, “Let us do evil that good
may result”? Their
condemnation is deserved!
Now we know that what things
soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth
may be stopped, and all the world
may become guilty before God.
Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.
Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it
may rest on grace and
may be
guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
What then shall we say? Shall we continue in sin so that grace may increase?
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may walk in newness of life.
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we
may be also
glorified together.
And if we are children, then we are heirs: heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ—if indeed we suffer with Him, so that we
may also be
glorified with Him.
And David saith, Let their table be made a
snare, and a
trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them:
Let their eyes be
darkened, that they
may not see, and bow down their back
alway.
May their eyes be
darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent
forever.”
If by any means I
may provoke to
emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them.
in the hope that I
may provoke my own people to jealousy and save some of them.
Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.
so they too have now disobeyed, in order that they too may now receive mercy through the mercy shown to you.
For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.
And be not
conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye
may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Do not be
conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and
approve what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.
For one person has faith to eat all things, while another, who is weak, eats only vegetables.
Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things
wherewith one
may edify another.
So then, let us pursue what leads to peace and to mutual
edification.
Now the God of
patience and
consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:
Now
may the God who gives
endurance and encouragement grant you harmony with one another in Christ Jesus,
That ye
may with one mind and one mouth
glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
so that with one mind and one voice you
may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
And that the Gentiles might
glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will
confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name.
so that the Gentiles
may glorify God for His mercy. As it is written: “Therefore I will praise You among the Gentiles; I will sing hymns to Your name.”
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
I have therefore
whereof I
may glory through Jesus Christ in those things which
pertain to God.
Therefore I
exult in Christ Jesus in my service to God.
That I may be delivered from them that do not believe in Judaea; and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted of the saints;
Pray that I
may be delivered from the unbelievers in
Judea, and that my service in Jerusalem
may be acceptable to the saints there,
That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed.
so that by God’s will I may come to you with joy and together with you be refreshed.
That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in
whatsoever business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succourer of many, and of myself also.
Welcome her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints, and assist her with anything she
may need from you. For she has been a great help to many people, including me.
Who shall also
confirm you unto the end, that ye
may be
blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
He will
sustain you to the end, so that you will be
blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Now I
beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree together, so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be united in mind and conviction.
That no flesh should glory in his presence.
so that no one
may boast in His presence.
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
We have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.
For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he
may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
“For who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to
instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
Let no man
deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a
fool, that he
may be wise.
Let no one
deceive himself. If any of you thinks he is wise in this age, he should become a
fool, so that he
may become wise.
And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be
puffed up for one against another.
Brothers, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us not to go beyond what is written. Then you will not take pride in one man over another.
To deliver such an one unto
Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit
may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
hand this man over to
Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit
may be saved on the Day of the Lord.
Do not deprive each other, except by mutual consent and for a time, so you
may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again, so that
Satan will not
tempt you through your lack of self-control.
Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather.
Were you a slave when you were called? Do not let it
concern you—but if you can gain your freedom, take the opportunity.
But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:
I want you to be free from
concern. The unmarried man is concerned about the work of the Lord, how he can please the Lord.
But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.
But the married man is concerned about the affairs of this world, how he can please his wife,
There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.
and his interests are divided. The unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the work of the Lord, how she can be holy in both body and spirit. But the married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world, how she can please her husband.
And this I speak for your own profit; not that I
may cast a
snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye
may attend upon the Lord without distraction.
I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but in order to promote proper
decorum and undivided devotion to the Lord.
What is my reward then?
Verily that, when I
preach the gospel, I
may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I
abuse not my power in the gospel.
What then is my reward? That in preaching the gospel I may offer it free of charge, and so not use up my rights in preaching it.
And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be
partaker thereof with you.
I do all this for the sake of the gospel, so that I may share in its blessings.
Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way as to take the prize.
There hath no
temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be
tempted above that ye are able; but will with the
temptation also make a way to escape, that ye
may be able to bear it.
No
temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be
tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are
tempted, He will also provide an escape, so that you can stand up under it.
Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.
as I also try to please
everyone in all I do. For I am not seeking my own good, but the good of many, that they
may be saved.
For there must be also
heresies among you, that they which are approved
may be made manifest among you.
And indeed, there must be differences among you to show which of you are approved.
Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye
may prophesy.
Earnestly pursue love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy.
I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye
prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he
interpret, that the church
may receive
edifying.
I wish that all of you could speak in tongues, but I would rather have you
prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets so that the church
may be
edified.
There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.
Assuredly, there are many different languages in the world, yet none of them is without meaning.
It is the same with you. Since you are eager to have spiritual gifts,
strive to
excel in gifts that build up the church.
Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he
may interpret.
Therefore, the one who speaks in a tongue should pray that he
may interpret.
You
may be giving
thanks well enough, but the other one is not
edified.
For ye
may all
prophesy one by one, that all
may learn, and all
may be comforted.
And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.
And when all things have been subjected to Him, then the Son Himself will be made subject to Him who put all things under Him, so that God may be all in all.
And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain:
And what you
sow is not the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or something else.
And it
may be that I will
abide,
yea, and winter with you, that ye
may bring me on my journey
whithersoever I go.
Perhaps I will stay with you
awhile, or even
spend the winter, so that you can help me on my journey, wherever I go.
Now if
Timotheus come, see that he
may be with you without fear: for he worketh the work of the Lord, as I also do.
If
Timothy comes, see to it that he has nothing to fear while he is with you, for he is doing the work of the Lord, just as I am.
Let no man therefore
despise him: but conduct him forth in peace, that he
may come unto me: for I look for him with the brethren.
No one, then, should treat him with contempt. Send him on his way in peace so that he can return to me, for I am expecting him along with the brothers.
Who comforteth us in all our
tribulation, that we
may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort
wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons
thanks may be given by many on our behalf.
as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give
thanks on our behalf for the favor shown us in answer to their prayers.
As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your
rejoicing, even as ye also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus.
as you have already understood us in part, so that you
may boast of us just as we will
boast of you in the day of our Lord Jesus.
But if any have caused grief, he hath not
grieved me, but in part: that I
may not overcharge you all.
Now if
anyone has caused grief, he has not
grieved me but all of you—to some degree, not to overstate it.
Now we have this
treasure in jars of clay to show that this
surpassingly great power is from God and not from us.
Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.
For we which live are
alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our
mortal flesh.
For we who are alive are always
consigned to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus
may also be revealed in our
mortal body.
For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the
thanksgiving of many
redound to the glory of God.
All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is extending to more and more people
may overflow in
thanksgiving, to the glory of God.
For we that are in this tabernacle do
groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be
swallowed up of life.
So while we are in this tent, we
groan under our burdens, because we do not wish to be unclothed but clothed, so that our mortality
may be
swallowed up by life.
Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.
So we
aspire to please Him, whether we are here in this body or away from it.
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive his due for the things done in the body, whether good or bad.
For we
commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye
may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart.
We are not
commending ourselves to you again. Instead, we are giving you an occasion to be proud of us, so that you can answer those who take pride in appearances rather than in the heart.
Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a
readiness to will, so there
may be a performance also out of that which ye have.
Now finish the work, so that you may complete it just as eagerly as you began, according to your means.
For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened:
It is not our intention that others may be relieved while you are burdened, but that there may be equality.
But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:
At the present time, your
surplus will meet their need, so that in turn their
surplus will meet your need. Then there will be equality.
Yet have I sent the brethren, lest our
boasting of you should be in vain in this behalf; that, as I said, ye
may be ready:
But I am sending the brothers in order that our
boasting about you in this matter should not prove empty, but that you will be prepared, just as I said.
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all
sufficiency in all things,
may abound to every good work:
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things, at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
But I
beseech you, that I
may not be bold when I am present with that confidence,
wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.
I
beg you that when I come I
may not need to be as bold as I expect toward those who
presume that we live according to the flesh.
