Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that he might know your estate, and comfort your hearts;
I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know about us, and that he may
encourage your hearts.
Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we
might have been
burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.
Nor did we seek praise from you or from
anyone else, although as apostles of Christ we had authority to demand it.
Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they
might be saved, to fill up their sins
alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the
uttermost.
hindering us from telling the Gentiles how they may be saved. As a result, they continue to
heap up their sins to full capacity; the utmost wrath has come upon them.
Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?
Night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you face to face and supply what is lacking from your faith.
And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
and to grant relief to you who are
oppressed and to us as well. This will take place when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His
mighty angels
Who shall be punished with
everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
They will suffer the penalty of eternal destruction, separated from the presence of the Lord and the glory of His might,
And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
And you know what is now restraining him, so that he may be revealed at the proper time.
And with all
deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they
might be saved.
and with every wicked
deception directed against those who are perishing, because they refused the love of the truth that would have saved them.
That they all
might be
damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
in order that judgment may come upon all who have disbelieved the truth and delighted in wickedness.
Neither did we eat any man’s bread for
nought; but wrought with labour and
travail night and day, that we
might not be chargeable to any of you:
nor did we eat
anyone’s food without paying for it. Instead, in labor and
toil, we worked night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you.
As I
besought thee to
abide still at Ephesus, when I went into
Macedonia, that thou
mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,
As I urged you on my departure to
Macedonia, you should stay on at Ephesus to
instruct certain men not to teach false doctrines
But for this very reason I was shown mercy, so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus
might display His perfect
patience as an example to those who would believe in Him for eternal life.
This charge I commit unto thee, son
Timothy, according to the
prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them
mightest war a good warfare;
Timothy, my child, I
entrust you with this command in keeping with the previous
prophecies about you, so that by them you may fight the good fight,
Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.
But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message would be fully proclaimed, and all the Gentiles would hear it. So I was delivered from the mouth of the lion.
Who gave himself for us, that he
might redeem us from all iniquity, and
purify unto himself a peculiar people,
zealous of good works.
This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou
affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God
might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.
This saying is
trustworthy. And I want you to
emphasize these things, so that those who have believed God will take care to
devote themselves to good deeds. These things are excellent and profitable for the people.
Wherefore, though I
might be much bold in Christ to
enjoin thee that which is convenient,
So although in Christ I am bold enough to order you to do what is proper,
Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy
stead he
might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel:
I would have liked to keep him with me, so that on your behalf he could minister to me in my chains for the gospel.
For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever;
For perhaps this is why he was separated from you for a while, so that you might have him back for good—
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because He suffered death, so that by the grace of God He
might taste death for
everyone.
Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he
might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
Now since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity, so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death, that is, the devil,
Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he
might be a
merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make
reconciliation for the sins of the people.
For this reason He had to be made like His brothers in every way, so that He
might become a
merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, in order to make
atonement for the sins of the people.
That by two
immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we
might have a strong
consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
Thus by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be strongly encouraged.
And for this cause he is the
mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the
redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called
might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
Therefore Christ is the
mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, now that He has died to
redeem them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.
For ye have need of
patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye
might receive the promise.
You need to
persevere, so that after you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised.
And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.
If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return.
Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed
valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
quenched the
raging fire, and escaped the edge of the sword; who gained strength from weakness, became
mighty in battle, and put foreign armies to flight.
Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were
tortured, not accepting
deliverance; that they
might obtain a better resurrection:
Women received back their dead, raised to life again. Others were
tortured and refused their release, so that they
might gain a better resurrection.
For they
verily for a few days
chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we
might be partakers of his
holiness.
Our fathers disciplined us for a short time as they thought best, but God disciplines us for our good, so that we may share in His
holiness.
For ye are not come unto the mount that
might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and
tempest,
For you have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness,
gloom, and storm;
Wherefore Jesus also, that he
might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.
And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate, to
sanctify the people by His own blood.
Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.
That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
so that the
proven character of your faith—more precious than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
Through Him you believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and
glorified Him; and so your faith and hope are in God.
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were
healed.
He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we
might die to sin and live to righteousness. “By His stripes you are
healed.”
For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he
might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but
quickened by the Spirit:
For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit,
For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
That is why the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged as men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
Humble
yourselves therefore under the
mighty hand of God, that he may
exalt you in due time:
Humble
yourselves, therefore, under God’s
mighty hand, so that in due time He may
exalt you.
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye
might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through
lust.
Through these He has given us His precious and magnificent promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, now that you have escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
Whereas angels, which are greater in power and
might, bring not railing
accusation against them before the Lord.
Yet not even angels, though greater in strength and power,
dare to bring such
slanderous charges against them before the Lord.
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
They went out from us, but they did not belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us. But their departure made it clear that none of them belonged to us.
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
The one who practices sin is of the devil, because the devil has been
sinning from the very start. This is why the Son of God was revealed, to destroy the works of the devil.
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only
begotten Son into the world, that we
might live through him.
This is how God’s love was revealed among us: God sent His one and only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him.
We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.
Therefore we ought to support such men, so that we may be fellow workers for the truth.
And I saw a strong angel
proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?
And I saw a
mighty angel
proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the
scroll?”
And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is
shaken of a
mighty wind.
and the stars of the sky fell to the earth like unripe figs
dropping from a tree
shaken by a great wind.
And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the
mighty men, and every
bondman, and every free man,
hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
Then the kings of the earth, the nobles, the commanders, the rich, the
mighty, and every slave and free man
hid in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains.
Saying,
Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and
thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and
might, be unto our God for ever and ever.
Amen.
saying, “
Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and
thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God
forever and ever!
Amen.”
And I saw another
mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a
rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:
Then I saw another
mighty angel coming down from heaven,
wrapped in a cloud, with a
rainbow above his head. His face was like the sun, and his legs were like pillars of fire.
And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she
might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is
nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle to fly from the presence of the serpent to her place in the wilderness, where she was
nourished for a time, and times, and half a time.
And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
Then from the mouth of the serpent
spewed water like a river to overtake the woman and
sweep her away in the
torrent.
And that no man
might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
so that no one could
buy or sell unless he had the mark—the name of the beast or the number of its name.
And the sixth angel poured out his
vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east
might be prepared.
And the sixth angel poured out his
bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up to prepare the way for the kings of the East.
And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great
earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so
mighty an
earthquake, and so great.
And there were
flashes of
lightning, and rumblings, and peals of
thunder, and a great
earthquake the likes of which had not occurred since men were upon the earth—so
mighty was the great
quake.
And he
cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the
habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a
cage of every unclean and
hateful bird.
And he
cried out in a
mighty voice: “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a
lair for demons and a
haunt for every unclean spirit, every unclean bird, and every
detestable beast.
Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and
mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.
Therefore her plagues will come in one day— death and grief and famine— and she will be consumed by fire, for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.”
Standing
afar off for the fear of her
torment, saying,
Alas,
alas, that great city Babylon, that
mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
In fear of her
torment, they will stand at a distance and cry out: “
Woe,
woe to the great city, the
mighty city of Babylon! For in a single hour your judgment has come.”
And a
mighty angel took up a stone like a great
millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
Then a
mighty angel
picked up a stone the size of a great
millstone and cast it into the sea, saying: “With such violence the great city of Babylon will be cast down, never to be seen again.
And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of
mighty thunderings, saying,
Alleluia: for the Lord God
omnipotent reigneth.
That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.
so that you may eat the flesh of kings and commanders and
mighty men, of horses and riders, of
everyone slave and free, small and great.”
Thus were the things that belonged to the sacrifices of the Lord accomplished in that day, that they
might hold the
passover,
In the first year of Cyrus king of the Persians, that the word of the Lord might be accomplished, that he had promised by the mouth of Jeremy;
And the men therein were given to rebellion and war: and that mighty kings and fierce were in Jerusalem, who reigned and exacted tributes in Celosyria and Phenice.
But yet the king is more
mighty: for he is lord of all these things, and hath dominion over them; and
whatsoever he commandeth them they do.
O ye men, how should not the king be mightiest, when in such sort he is obeyed? And he held his tongue.
And yet for all this the king
gaped and
gazed upon her with open mouth: if she
laughed upon him, he
laughed also: but if she took any displeasure at him, the king was
fain to
flatter, that she
might be
reconciled to him again.
And with that he held his peace. And all the people then
shouted, and said, Great is Truth, and
mighty above all things.
Insomuch that the
trumpets might not be heard for the
weeping of the people: yet the multitude sounded marvellously, so that it was heard
afar off.
Therefore to the intent that we might give knowledge unto thee by writing, we demanded of them who were the chief doers, and we required of them the names in writing of their principal men.
And commanded them that they should speak unto Daddeus, and to his brethren, and to the treasurers in that place, to send us such men as
might execute the priests’ office in the house of the Lord.
And by the mighty hand of our Lord they brought unto us skilful men of the sons of Moli the son of Levi, the son of Israel, Asebebia, and his sons, and his brethren, who were eighteen.
And from the river Theras we departed the
twelfth day of the first month, and came to Jerusalem by the
mighty hand of our Lord, which was with us: and from the beginning of our journey the Lord delivered us from every enemy, and so we came to Jerusalem.
Mightest not thou be
angry with us to destroy us, till thou hadst left us neither root, seed, nor name?
And as many fountains flowing with milk and honey, and seven
mighty mountains,
whereupon there grow roses and
lilies, whereby I will fill thy children with joy.
And thy glory went through four gates, of fire, and of
earthquake, and of wind, and of cold; that thou
mightest give the law unto the seed of Jacob, and
diligence unto the generation of Israel.
And yet tookest thou not away from them a wicked heart, that thy law might bring forth fruit in them.
And he said unto me, Thou canst not. And I said, Wherefore, Lord?
whereunto was I born then? or why was not my mother’s
womb then my grave, that I
might not have seen the
travail of Jacob, and the
wearisome toil of the stock of Israel?
So I answered and said, Couldest thou not make those that have been made, and be now, and that are for to come, at once; that thou
mightest shew thy judgment the sooner?
And I said, As thou hast said unto thy servant, that thou, which givest life to all, hast given life at once to the creature that thou hast created, and the creature bare it: even so it might now also bear them that now be present at once.
So he answered and said unto me, Stand up upon thy feet, and hear a mighty sounding voice.
For thy voice is heard before the most High: for the
Mighty hath seen thy righteous dealing, he hath seen also thy
chastity, which thou hast had ever since thy youth.
And it came to pass after this, that I
wept again, and fasted seven days in like manner, that I
might fulfil the three weeks which he told me.
Then commandedst thou a fair light to come forth of thy treasures, that thy work might appear.
Upon the second day thou madest the spirit of the
firmament, and commandedst it to part
asunder, and to make a division
betwixt the waters, that the one part
might go up, and the other remain beneath.
Upon the third day thou
didst command that the waters should be gathered in the seventh part of the earth: six parts hast thou dried up, and kept them, to the intent that of these some being planted of God and tilled
might serve thee.
For the
dumb water and without life brought forth living things at the commandment of God, that all people
might praise thy
wondrous works.
And
didst separate the one from the other: for the seventh part, namely, where the water was gathered together,
might not hold them both.
And I said, Speak on, my God. Then said he unto me, The sea is set in a wide place, that it might be deep and great.
And Helias for those that received rain; and for the dead, that he might live:
And he pardoneth; for if he did not so of his goodness, that they which have committed
iniquities might be eased of them, the ten
thousandth part of men should not remain living.
If therefore thou shalt destroy him which with so great labour was fashioned, it is an easy thing to be ordained by thy commandment, that the thing which was made might be preserved.
And it came to pass, when they had all left off to comfort me, to the end I
might be quiet; then rose I up by night and fled, and came
hither into this field, as thou seest.
And therefore
shake off thy great
heaviness, and put away the multitude of sorrows, that the
Mighty may be
merciful unto thee again, and the Highest shall give thee rest and ease from thy labour.
And it came to pass while I was talking with her, behold, her face upon a sudden
shined exceedingly, and her countenance
glistered, so that I was afraid of her, and
mused what it
might be.
Then I
beheld, and, lo, in process of time the feathers that followed stood up upon the right side, that they
might rule also; and some of them ruled, but within a while they appeared no more:
Art not thou it that remainest of the four beasts, whom I made to reign in my world, that the end of their times might come through them?
Therefore is thy wrongful dealing come up unto the Highest, and thy pride unto the Mighty.
As for me, I have not
forsaken you, neither am I departed from you: but am come into this place, to pray for the
desolation of
Sion, and that I
might seek mercy for the low estate of your sanctuary.
That they might there keep their statutes, which they never kept in their own land.
