nigh to
Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them.

night, and washed their stripes; and was
baptized, he and all his,
straightway.

baptized.

night unto

synagogue.

Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to
warn every one
night and day with tears.
Therefore be
alert and remember that for three years I never stopped
warning each of you
night and day with tears.
And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come
nigh unto Damascus about
noon, suddenly there
shone from heaven a great light round about me.
About
noon as I was approaching Damascus, suddenly a bright light from heaven
flashed around me.
And the
night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good
cheer, Paul: for as thou hast
testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.

night the Lord stood near Paul and said, “Take courage! As you have
testified about Me in Jerusalem, so also you must
testify in Rome.”

horsemen threescore and ten, and
spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the

horsemen, and two hundred
spearmen to go to Caesarea in the third hour of the
night.

Unto which promise our twelve tribes, instantly serving God day and
night, hope to come. For which hope’s sake, king
Agrippa, I am accused of the Jews.
the promise our twelve tribes are hoping to
realize as they earnestly serve God day and
night. It is because of this hope, O king, that I am accused by the Jews.
And, hardly passing it, came unto a place which is called The fair havens;
nigh whereunto was the city of Lasea.
After we had moved along the coast with difficulty, we came to a place called Fair Havens, near the town of Lasea.
For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,
For just last night an angel of God, whose I am and whom I serve, stood beside me
But when the
fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in
Adria, about
midnight the
shipmen deemed that they drew near to some country;
On the
fourteenth night we were still being driven across the
Adriatic Sea. About
midnight the sailors sensed they were approaching land.
But what saith it? The word is
nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we
preach;
But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith we are
proclaiming:
The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
The
night is nearly over; the day has drawn near. So let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the
armor of light.
For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same
night in which he was
betrayed took bread:
For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the
night He was
betrayed, took bread,
In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings;
in beatings, imprisonments, and riots; in labor, sleepless nights, and hunger;
Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned,
thrice I suffered
shipwreck, a
night and a day I have been in the deep;
Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was
shipwrecked. I spent a
night and a day in the open sea.
But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.
And came and preached peace to you which were
afar off, and to them that were
nigh.
He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.
For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.
He was sick indeed, nearly unto death. But God had mercy on him, and not only on him but also on me, to
spare me sorrow upon sorrow.
Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
because he nearly died for the work of Christ, risking his life to make up for your
deficit of service to me.
For ye remember, brethren, our labour and
travail: for labouring
night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God.
Surely you recall, brothers, our labor and
toil. We worked
night and day so that we would not be a burden to
anyone while we proclaimed to you the gospel of God.
Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?
Night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you face to face and supply what is lacking from your faith.
For
yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a
thief in the
night.
For you are fully aware that the Day of the Lord will come like a
thief in the
night.
Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
For you are all sons of the light and sons of the day; we do not belong to the night or to the darkness.
For they that sleep sleep in the
night; and they that be
drunken are
drunken in the
night.
For those who sleep, sleep at
night; and those who get
drunk, get
drunk at
night.
Neither did we eat any man’s bread for
nought; but wrought with labour and
travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:
nor did we eat
anyone’s food without paying for it. Instead, in labor and
toil, we worked
night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you.
Now she that is a widow indeed, and
desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers
night and day.
The widow who is truly in need and left all alone puts her hope in God and continues night and day in her petitions and prayers.
I
thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have
remembrance of thee in my prayers
night and day;
I
thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience as did my forefathers, as I constantly remember you
night and day in my prayers.
But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is
nigh unto
cursing; whose end is to be burned.
But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless, and its
curse is
imminent. In the end it will be burned.
For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.
(for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.
Draw
nigh to God, and he will draw
nigh to you.
Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and
purify your hearts, ye double minded.
Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.
Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and
purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Be ye also patient;
stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth
nigh.
You, too, be patient and
strengthen your hearts, because the Lord’s coming is near.
But the day of the Lord will come as a
thief in the
night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall
melt with
fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
But the Day of the Lord will come like a
thief. The heavens will disappear with a
roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and its works will be laid bare.
And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and
night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God
Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
And each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around and within. Day and
night they never stop saying: “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord God
Almighty, who was and is and is to come!”
Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.
For this reason, they are before the throne of God and serve Him day and night in His temple; and the One seated on the throne will spread His tabernacle over them.
And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was
smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was
darkened, and the day
shone not for a third part of it, and the
night likewise.
Then the fourth angel sounded his
trumpet, and a third of the sun and moon and stars were struck. A third of the stars were
darkened, a third of the day was without light, and a third of the
night as well.
And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the
accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and
night.
And I heard a loud voice in heaven saying: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Christ. For the
accuser of our brothers has been thrown down— he who accuses them day and
night before our God.
And the smoke of their
torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor
night, who worship the beast and his image, and
whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
And the smoke of their
torment rises
forever and ever. Day and
night there is no rest for those who worship the beast and its image, or for
anyone who receives the mark of its name.”
And the devil that
deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and
brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be
tormented day and
night for ever and ever.
And the devil who had
deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur, into which the beast and the false prophet had already been thrown. There they will be
tormented day and
night forever and ever.
And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
Its gates will never be shut at the end of the day, because there will be no night there.
And there shall be no
night there; and they need no
candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
There will be no more
night in the city, and they will have no need for the light of a lamp or of the sun. For the Lord God will
shine on them, and they will reign
forever and ever.
For the priests offered the fat until night: and the Levites prepared for themselves, and the priests their brethren, the sons of Aaron.
And therefore I say unto you, O ye heathen, that hear and understand, look for your
Shepherd, he shall give you
everlasting rest; for he is
nigh at hand, that shall come in the end of the world.
But if the most High grant thee to live, thou shalt see after the third
trumpet that the sun shall suddenly
shine again in the
night, and the moon
thrice in the day:
And the Sodomitish sea shall cast out fish, and make a noise in the night, which many have not known: but they shall all hear the voice thereof.
And in the second night it came to pass, that Salathiel the captain of the people came unto me, saying, Where hast thou been? and why is thy countenance so heavy?
Then said I unto him, Go thy ways from me, and come not nigh me. And he heard what I said, and went from me.
Now when I had spoken these words, the angel that came to me the
night afore was sent unto me,
And I said, Behold, O Lord, yet art thou nigh unto them that be reserved till the end: and what shall they do that have been before me, or we that be now, or they that shall come after us?
And I asked, and said, Seeing thou hast now given me the way, I will proceed to speak before thee: for our mother, of whom thou hast told me that she is young, draweth now nigh unto age.
And it said, Behold, the days come, that I will begin to draw nigh, and to visit them that dwell upon the earth,
And these words said he unto me; I am come to
shew thee the time of the
night to come.
And in the eighth
night was my heart
vexed within me again, and I began to speak before the most High.
And when I had made an end of speaking these words, there was sent unto me the angel which had been sent unto me the
nights afore:
For thou comest far short that thou shouldest be able to love my creature more than I: but I have
ofttimes drawn
nigh unto thee, and unto it, but never to the unrighteous.
And those thirty years I did nothing else day and night, and every hour, but make my, prayer to the Highest.
Then we all overthrew the lights, and all my neighbours rose up to comfort me: so I took my rest unto the second day at night.
And it came to pass, when they had all left off to comfort me, to the end I might be quiet; then rose I up by
night and fled, and came
hither into this field, as thou seest.
But to
morrow at
night thou shalt remain here;
And so shall the Highest
shew thee visions of the high things, which the most High will do unto them that dwell upon the earth in the last days. So I
slept that
night and another, like as he commanded me.
Lo, yet am I
weary in my mind, and very weak in my spirit; and little strength is there in me, for the great fear
wherewith I was
afflicted this
night.
And it came to pass after seven days, I dreamed a dream by night:
The Highest gave understanding unto the five men, and they wrote the wonderful visions of the
night that were told, which they knew not: and they sat forty days, and they wrote in the day, and at
night they
ate bread.
As for me. I spake in the day, and I held not my tongue by night.
For the sword and their destruction draweth nigh, and one people shall stand up and fight against another, and swords in their hands.
Behold, the plagues draw
nigh, and are not
slack.
The same
night also I returned from the burial, and
slept by the wall of my
courtyard, being
polluted and my face was uncovered:
Then the angel said unto him,
Dost thou not remember the precepts which thy father gave thee, that thou shouldest marry a wife of thine own kindred? wherefore hear me, O my brother; for she shall be given thee to wife; and make thou no
reckoning of the evil spirit; for this same
night shall she be given thee in marriage.
I have given my daughter in marriage to seven men, who died that
night they came in unto her: nevertheless for the present be
merry. But Tobias said, I will eat nothing here, till we agree and
swear one to another.
So they
slept both that
night. And Raguel arose, and went and made a grave,
But she said, Hold thy peace, and
deceive me not; my son is dead. And she went out every day into the way which they went, and did eat no meat on the
daytime, and ceased not whole
nights to
bewail her son Tobias, until the fourteen days of the
wedding were
expired, which Raguel had
sworn that he should
spend there. Then Tobias said to Raguel, Let me go, for my father and my mother look no more to see me.
And Ozias took him out of the assembly unto his house, and made a feast to the elders; and they called on the God of Israel all that night for help.
Then every man took up his weapons of war, and when they had
kindled fires upon their towers, they remained and watched all that
night.
Ye shall stand this night in the gate, and I will go forth with my waitingwoman: and within the days that ye have promised to deliver the city to our enemies the Lord will visit Israel by mine hand.
But now tell me wherefore thou art fled from them, and art come unto us: for thou art come for
safeguard; be of good comfort, thou shalt live this
night, and
hereafter:
Then
Judith said unto him, Receive the words of thy servant, and suffer thine
handmaid to speak in thy presence, and I will declare no lie to my lord this
night.
For thy servant is religious, and serveth the God of heaven day and night: now therefore, my lord, I will remain with thee, and thy servant will go out by night into the valley, and I will pray unto God, and he will tell me when they have committed their sins:
Then Holofernes commanded his guard that they should not stay her: thus she abode in the camp three days, and went out in the night into the valley of Bethulia, and washed herself in a fountain of water by the camp.
Then she said to them with a loud voice, Praise, praise God, praise God, I say, for he hath not taken away his mercy from the house of Israel, but hath destroyed our enemies by mine hands this night.
Now when Mardocheus, who had seen this dream, and what God had determined to do, was
awake, he bare this dream in mind, and until
night by all means was
desirous to know it.
For after this cometh night: but vice shall not prevail against wisdom.
Rendered to the righteous a reward of their labours, guided them in a marvellous way, and was unto them for a cover by day, and a light of stars in the night season;
For when unrighteous men thought to
oppress the holy nation; they being shut up in their houses, the prisoners of darkness, and
fettered with the bonds of a long
night, lay there exiled from the eternal providence.
No power of the fire might give them light: neither could the bright flames of the stars
endure to
lighten that
horrible night.
But they sleeping the same sleep that
night, which was indeed
intolerable, and which came upon them out of the bottoms of inevitable
hell,
Over them only was spread an heavy
night, an image of that darkness which should afterward receive them: but yet were they unto themselves more
grievous than the darkness.
For while all things were in quiet silence, and that night was in the midst of her swift course,
Who will
pity a charmer that is
bitten with a serpent, or any such as come
nigh wild beasts?
He shall pitch his tent
nigh unto her, and shall
lodge in a
lodging where good things are.
The prayer of the humble pierceth the clouds: and till it come
nigh, he will not be comforted; and will not depart, till the most High shall behold to judge righteously, and
execute judgment.
Who will trust a
thief well appointed, that skippeth from city to city? so who will believe a man that hath no house, and lodgeth
wheresoever the
night taketh him?
Wrath, and
envy, trouble, and unquietness, fear of death, and anger, and
strife, and in the time of rest upon his bed his
night sleep, do change his knowledge.
