Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he
hearkened not unto them, that they told
Haman, to see whether
Mordecai’s matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a
Jew.
Now it came to pass on the third day, that
Esther put on her royal
apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king’s house, over against the king’s house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house.
On the third day,
Esther put on her royal
attire and stood in the inner court of the palace across from the king’s quarters. The king was sitting on his royal throne in the royal courtroom, facing the entrance.
And the king said, Who is in the court?
Now Haman was come into the outward court of the king’s house, to speak unto the king to
hang Mordecai on the
gallows that he had prepared for him.
“Who is in the court?” the king asked.
Now Haman had just entered the outer court of the palace to ask the king to
hang Mordecai on the
gallows he had prepared for him.
So
Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour?
Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself?
Haman entered, and the king asked him, “What should be done for the man whom the king is delighted to honor?”
Now Haman thought to himself, “Whom would the king be delighted to honor more than me?”
Write ye also for the Jews, as it liketh you, in the king’s name, and seal it with the king’s ring: for the writing which is written in the king’s name, and sealed with the king’s ring, may no man reverse.
Now you may write in the king’s name as you please regarding the Jews, and seal it with the royal
signet ring. For a decree that is written in the name of the king and sealed with the royal
signet ring cannot be
revoked.”
Now in the
twelfth month, that is, the month
Adar, on the
thirteenth day of the same, when the king’s commandment and his decree drew near to be put in execution, in the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have power over them, (though it was turned to the contrary, that the Jews had rule over them that
hated them;)
On the
thirteenth day of the
twelfth month, the month of
Adar, the king’s command and edict were to be executed. On this day the enemies of the Jews had hoped to overpower them, but their plan was overturned and the Jews overpowered those who
hated them.
And the king said unto
Esther the queen, The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in
Shushan the palace, and the ten sons of
Haman; what have they done in the rest of the king’s provinces?
now what is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: or what is thy request further? and it shall be done.
who said to Queen
Esther, “In the citadel of
Susa the Jews have killed and destroyed five hundred men, including
Haman’s ten sons. What have they done in the rest of the royal provinces?
Now what is your petition? It will be given to you. And what further do you request? It will be fulfilled.”
And the king
Ahasuerus laid a tribute upon the land, and upon the isles of the sea.
Now King
Xerxes imposed tribute throughout the land, even to its
farthest shores.
Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and
Satan came also among them.
One day the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and
Satan also came with them.
But put forth thine hand
now, and touch all that he hath, and he will
curse thee to thy face.
But stretch out Your hand and strike all that he has, and he will surely
curse You to Your face.”
But put forth thine hand
now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will
curse thee to thy face.
But stretch out Your hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely
curse You to Your face.”
Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and
Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to
mourn with him and to comfort him.
Now when Job’s three friends—Eliphaz the Temanite,
Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite—heard about all this
adversity that had come upon him, each of them came from his home, and they met together to go and
sympathize with Job and comfort him.
For
now should I have
lain still and been quiet, I should have
slept: then had I been at rest,
For
now I would be lying down in peace; I would be
asleep and at rest
With kings and counsellors of the earth, which built
desolate places for themselves;
with kings and counselors of the earth, who built for themselves cities now in ruins,
But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
But
now trouble has come upon you, and you are
weary. It strikes you, and you are dismayed.
Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?
Consider
now, I
plead: Who, being innocent, has ever perished? Or where have the upright been destroyed?
Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof.
Now a word came to me secretly; my ears caught a
whisper of it.
Call
now, if there be any that will answer thee; and to which of the saints
wilt thou turn?
“Call out if you please, but who will answer? To which of the holy ones will you turn?
For
now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea: therefore my words are
swallowed up.
For then it would
outweigh the sand of the seas— no wonder my words have been
rash.
Is not my help in me? and is wisdom driven quite from me?
Is there any help within me now that success is driven from me?
For now ye are no thing; ye see my casting down, and are afraid.
For now you are of no help; you see terror, and you are afraid.
Now therefore be content, look upon me; for it is evident unto you if I lie.
But now, please look at me. Would I lie to your face?
And why
dost thou not
pardon my
transgression, and take away mine iniquity? for
now shall I sleep in the dust; and thou shalt seek me in the morning, but I shall not be.
Why do You not
pardon my
transgression and take away my iniquity? For soon I will lie down in the dust; You will seek me, but I will be no more.”
If thou
wert pure and upright; surely
now he would
awake for thee, and make the
habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.
if you are pure and upright, even
now He will
rouse Himself on your behalf and restore your righteous estate.
Now my days are swifter than a post: they
flee away, they see no good.
My days are swifter than a
runner; they
flee without seeing good.
Thine hands have made me and fashioned me together round about; yet thou
dost destroy me.
Your hands shaped me and altogether formed me. Would You now turn and destroy me?
Remember, I
beseech thee, that thou hast made me as the clay; and
wilt thou bring me into dust again?
Please remember that You
molded me like clay. Would You
now return me to dust?
But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee:
But ask the animals, and they will
instruct you; ask the birds of the air, and they will tell you.
Hear
now my argument, and
listen to the
plea of my lips.
Behold now, I have ordered my cause; I know that I shall be justified.
Behold,
now that I have prepared my case, I know that I will be
vindicated.
Who is he that will
plead with me? for
now, if I hold my tongue, I shall give up the ghost.
For
now thou numberest my steps:
dost thou not watch over my sin?
For then You would count my steps, but would not keep
track of my sin.
But
now he hath made me
weary: thou hast made
desolate all my company.
Surely He has
now exhausted me; You have
devastated all my family.
Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high.
Even now my witness is in heaven, and my advocate is on high.
Lay down
now, put me in a
surety with thee; who is he that will strike hands with me?
But as for you all, do ye return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you.
But come back and try again, all of you. For I will not find a wise man among you.
And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?
where then is my hope? Who can see any hope for me?
These ten times have ye reproached me: ye are not
ashamed that ye make
yourselves strange to me.
Ten times
now you have reproached me; you
shamelessly mistreat me.
Know now that God hath overthrown me, and hath compassed me with his net.
then understand that it is God who has wronged me and drawn His net around me.
Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book!
I wish that my words were recorded and inscribed in a book,
For ye say, Where is the house of the prince? and where are the dwelling places of the wicked?
For you say, ‘Where
now is the
nobleman’s house, and where are the tents in which the wicked dwell?’
Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.
Reconcile now and be at peace with Him; thereby good will come to you.
And if it be not so
now, who will make me a
liar, and make my speech nothing worth?
If this is not so, then who can prove me a
liar and reduce my words to nothing?”
But
now they that are younger than I have me in
derision, whose fathers I would have
disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.
“But
now they
mock me, men younger than I am, whose fathers I would have refused to
entrust with my sheep dogs.
And
now am I their song,
yea, I am their
byword.
And
now they
mock me in song; I have become a
byword among them.
And
now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of
affliction have taken hold upon me.
Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they were elder than he.
Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job because the others were older than he.
Now he hath not directed his words against me: neither will I answer him with your speeches.
But Job has not directed his words against me, and I will not answer him with your arguments.
When I had waited, (for they spake not, but stood still, and answered no more;)
Must I wait, now that they are silent, now that they stand and no longer reply?
Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and
hearken to all my words.
“But
now, O Job, hear my speech, and
listen to all my words.
Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.
Behold, I will open my mouth; my address is on the
tip of my tongue.
If
now thou hast understanding, hear this:
hearken to the voice of my words.
If you have understanding, hear this;
listen to my words.
But now, because it is not so, he hath visited in his anger; yet he knoweth it not in great extremity:
and further, that in His anger He has not punished or taken much notice of folly!
But thou hast fulfilled the judgment of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold on thee.
But
now you are
laden with the judgment due the wicked; judgment and justice have seized you.
And now men see not the bright light which is in the clouds: but the wind passeth, and cleanseth them.
Now no one can
gaze at the sun when it is bright in the
skies after the wind has swept them clean.
Gird up
now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.
Now brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall inform Me.
Gird up thy loins
now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.
“
Now brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall inform Me.
Behold
now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.
Look at
Behemoth, which I made along with you. He feeds on grass like an ox.
Lo
now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the
navel of his
belly.
See the strength of his loins and the power in the muscles of his
belly.
Hear, I
beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.
You said, ‘
Listen now, and I will speak. I will question you, and you shall inform Me.’
I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but
now mine eye
seeth thee.
My ears had heard of You, but now my eyes have seen You.
Therefore take unto you
now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for
yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.
So
now, take seven bulls and seven rams, go to My servant Job, and sacrifice a burnt offering for
yourselves. Then My servant Job will pray for you, for I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken accurately about Me, as My servant Job has.”
Be wise
now therefore, O ye kings: be
instructed, ye judges of the earth.
Therefore be wise, O kings; be
admonished, O judges of the earth.
For the oppression of the poor, for the
sighing of the
needy,
now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him.
“For the cause of the
oppressed and for the
groaning of the
needy, I will
now arise,” says the LORD. “I will bring safety to him who yearns.”
They have now compassed us in our steps: they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth;
They have
tracked us down, and
now surround us; their eyes are set to cast us to the ground,
Now know I that the LORD saveth his
anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.
Now I know that the LORD saves His
anointed; He answers him from His holy heaven with the saving power of His right hand.
And
now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing,
yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.
Then my head will be held high above my enemies around me. At His tabernacle I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the LORD.
I have been young, and
now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous
forsaken, nor his seed
begging bread.
I once was young and
now am old, yet never have I seen the righteous abandoned or their children
begging for bread.
And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.
And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in You.
An evil disease, say they, cleaveth fast unto him: and now that he lieth he shall rise up no more.
“A
vile disease has been poured into him; he will never get up from where he lies!”
These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as
thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.
You have done these things, and I kept silent; you thought I was just like you. But
now I
rebuke you and
accuse you to your face.
Now consider this, ye that
forget God, lest I
tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.
Now consider this, you who
forget God, lest I
tear you to pieces, with no one to
rescue you:
Now also when I am old and greyheaded, O God,
forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.
Even when I am old and gray, do not
forsake me, O God, until I
proclaim Your power to the next generation, Your might to all who are to come.
But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers.
and
smashing all the carvings with hatchets and picks.
Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for
evermore.
Blessed be the name of the LORD both now and forevermore.
Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God?
Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?”
But we will
bless the LORD from this time forth and for
evermore. Praise the LORD.
But it is we who will
bless the LORD, both
now and forevermore.
Hallelujah!
I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people.
I will
fulfill my vows to the LORD in the presence of all His people.
I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people,
I will
fulfill my vows to the LORD in the presence of all His people,
Let Israel now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.
Let Israel say, “His loving devotion endures
forever.”
Let the house of Aaron now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.
Let the house of Aaron say, “His loving devotion endures
forever.”
Let them now that fear the LORD say, that his mercy endureth for ever.
Let those who fear the LORD say, “His loving devotion endures
forever.”
Save
now, I
beseech thee, O LORD: O LORD, I
beseech thee, send
now prosperity.
O LORD, save us, we pray. We
beseech You, O LORD, cause us to
prosper!
The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for
evermore.
The LORD will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore.
For my brethren and companions’ sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee.
For the sake of my brothers and friends, I will say, “Peace be within you.”
If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say;
If the LORD had not been on our side— let Israel now declare—
As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.
As the mountains
surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds His people, both
now and forevermore.
Many a time have they
afflicted me from my youth, may Israel
now say:
Many a time they have
persecuted me from my youth— let Israel
now declare—
Let Israel hope in the LORD from henceforth and for ever.
O Israel, put your hope in the LORD, both now and forevermore.
Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
So
now, my sons,
listen to me, and do not turn aside from the words of my mouth.
Do this
now, my son, deliver
thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble
thyself, and make sure thy friend.
Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)
Now in the street, now in the squares, she lurks at every corner.
Hearken unto me
now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.
Now, my sons,
listen to me, and attend to the words of my mouth.
Now therefore
hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.
Now therefore, my sons,
listen to me, for blessed are those who keep my ways.
All the brethren of the poor do
hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.
All the brothers of a poor man
hate him— how much more do his friends avoid him! He may pursue them with
pleading, but they are
nowhere to be found.
I said in mine heart, Go to
now, I will prove thee with
mirth, therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this also is vanity.
I said to myself, “Come
now, I will test you with pleasure; enjoy what is good!” But it proved to be
futile.
For there is no
remembrance of the wise more than of the
fool for ever; seeing that which
now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man? as the
fool.
For there is no lasting
remembrance of the wise, just as with the
fool, seeing that both will be forgotten in the days to come.
Alas, the wise man will die just like the
fool!
