That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.
What exists has already been, and what will be has already been, for God will call to account what has passed.
Also their love, and their hatred, and their
envy, is
now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.
Their love, their
hate, and their
envy have already
vanished, and they will never again have a share in all that is done under the sun.
Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a
merry heart; for God
now accepteth thy works.
Go, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a
cheerful heart, for God has already approved your works:
Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.
Now a poor wise man was found in the city, and he saved the city by his wisdom. Yet no one remembered that poor man.
Remember
now thy
Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw
nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
Remember your
Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of
adversity come and the years approach of which you will say, “I find no pleasure in them,”
For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone;
For now the winter is past; the rain is over and gone.
I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.
I will arise now and go about the city, through the streets and squares. I will seek the one I love. So I sought him but did not find him.
I said, I will go up to the palm tree, I will take hold of the boughs thereof: now also thy breasts shall be as clusters of the vine, and the smell of thy nose like apples;
I said, “I will
climb the palm tree; I will take hold of its fruit.” May your breasts be like clusters of the vine, the
fragrance of your breath like apples,
Come
now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like
crimson, they shall be as wool.
“Come
now, let us reason together,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they will be as white as snow; though they are as red as
crimson, they will become like wool.
How is the faithful city become an
harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness
lodged in it; but
now murderers.
See how the faithful city has become a
harlot! She once was full of justice; righteousness resided within her, but
now only murderers!
Now will I sing to my wellbeloved a song of my beloved touching his
vineyard. My wellbeloved hath a
vineyard in a very fruitful hill:
I will sing for my beloved a song of his
vineyard: My beloved had a
vineyard on a very fertile hill.
And
now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, judge, I pray you,
betwixt me and my
vineyard.
“And
now, O dwellers of Jerusalem and men of Judah, I
exhort you to judge between Me and My
vineyard.
And
now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my
vineyard: I will take away the
hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be
trodden down:
Now I will tell you what I am about to do to My
vineyard: I will take away its
hedge, and it will be consumed; I will
tear down its wall, and it will be
trampled.
And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin
purged.
And with it he touched my mouth and said: “
Now that this has touched your lips, your iniquity is removed and your sin is
atoned for.”
And it came to pass in the days of
Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it.
Now in the days that
Ahaz son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, was king of Judah, Rezin king of
Aram marched up to
wage war against Jerusalem. He was accompanied by Pekah son of Remaliah the king of Israel, but he could not overpower the city.
Then said the LORD unto Isaiah, Go forth
now to meet
Ahaz, thou, and
Shear-jashub thy son, at the end of the
conduit of the upper
pool in the
highway of the fuller’s field;
Then the LORD said to Isaiah, “Go out with your son
Shear-jashub to meet
Ahaz at the end of the
aqueduct that feeds the upper
pool, on the road to the
Launderer’s Field,
And he said, Hear ye
now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to
weary men, but will ye
weary my God also?
Then Isaiah said, “Hear
now, O house of David! Is it not enough to try the
patience of men? Will you try the
patience of my God as well?
Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks:
the Lord will surely bring against them the mighty floodwaters of the Euphrates— the king of Assyria and all his
pomp. It will overflow its channels and overrun its banks.
But
now the LORD hath spoken, saying, Within three years, as the years of an
hireling, and the glory of Moab shall be
contemned, with all that great multitude; and the
remnant shall be very small and feeble.
And
now the LORD says, “In three years, as a
hired worker counts the years, Moab’s
splendor will become an object of contempt, with all her many people. And those who are left will be few and feeble.”
Where are they? where are thy wise men? and let them tell thee now, and let them know what the LORD of hosts hath purposed upon Egypt.
Where are your wise men
now? Let them tell you and
reveal what the LORD of Hosts has
planned against Egypt.
The burden of the valley of vision. What aileth thee now, that thou art wholly gone up to the housetops?
This is the burden against the Valley of Vision: What ails you now, that you have all gone up to the rooftops,
Behold the land of the Chaldeans; this people was not,
til the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness: they set up the towers thereof, they raised up the palaces thereof; and he brought it to ruin.
Look at the land of the Chaldeans— a people
now of no account. The Assyrians destined it for the desert creatures; they set up their siege towers and
stripped its palaces. They brought it to ruin.
The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merryhearted do
sigh.
The new wine dries up, the vine
withers. All the merrymakers
now groan.
Now therefore be ye not mockers, lest your bands be made strong: for I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts a consumption, even determined upon the whole earth.
So
now, do not
mock, or your
shackles will become heavier. Indeed, I have heard from the Lord GOD of Hosts a decree of destruction against the whole land.
Therefore thus saith the LORD, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, Jacob shall not
now be
ashamed, neither shall his face
now wax pale.
Therefore the LORD who redeemed Abraham says of the house of Jacob: “No longer will Jacob be
ashamed and no more will his face grow pale.
Now go, write it before them in a table, and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever:
Go
now, write it on a
tablet in their presence and
inscribe it on a
scroll; it will be for the days to come, a witness
forever and ever.
Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is
holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.
But the Egyptians are men, not God; their horses are flesh, not spirit. When the LORD stretches out His hand, the helper will
stumble, and the one he helps will fall; both will perish together.
Now will I rise, saith the LORD;
now will I be
exalted;
now will I lift up myself.
“
Now I will arise,” says the LORD. “
Now I will lift Myself up.
Now I will be
exalted.
Now it came to pass in the
fourteenth year of king
Hezekiah, that
Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the defenced cities of Judah, and took them.
And
Rabshakeh said unto them, Say ye
now to
Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?
The
Rabshakeh said to them, “Tell
Hezekiah that this is what the great king, the king of Assyria, says: What is the basis of this confidence of yours?
I say, sayest thou, (but they are but vain words) I have counsel and strength for war:
now on whom
dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
You claim to have a
strategy and strength for war, but these are empty words. In whom are you
now trusting, that you have rebelled against me?
Lo, thou trustest in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt;
whereon if a man
lean, it will go into his hand, and
pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust in him.
Look
now, you are trusting in Egypt, that
splintered reed of a staff that will
pierce the hand of
anyone who leans on it. Such is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.
Now therefore give pledges, I pray thee, to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.
Now, therefore, make a
bargain with my master, the king of Assyria. I will give you two thousand horses—if you can put riders on them!
And am I now come up without the LORD against this land to destroy it? the LORD said unto me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.
So now, was it apart from the LORD that I have come up against this land to destroy it? The LORD Himself said to me, ‘Go up against this land and destroy it.’”
And he heard say concerning Tirhakah king of
Ethiopia, He is come forth to make war with thee. And when he heard it, he sent messengers to
Hezekiah, saying,
Now therefore, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD, even thou only.
And now, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You alone, O LORD, are God.”
Hast thou not heard long ago, how I have done it; and of ancient times, that I have formed it?
now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste defenced cities into
ruinous heaps.
Have you not heard? Long ago I ordained it; in days of old I
planned it.
Now I have brought it to pass, that you should
crush fortified cities into piles of
rubble.
And said, Remember
now, O LORD, I
beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And
Hezekiah wept sore.
saying, “Please, O LORD, remember how I have walked before You faithfully and with wholehearted devotion; I have done what was good in Your sight.” And
Hezekiah wept bitterly.
For Isaiah had said, Let them take a
lump of figs, and lay it for a
plaister upon the
boil, and he shall recover.
Now Isaiah had said, “Prepare a
lump of pressed figs and apply it to the
boil, and he will recover.”
Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.
Behold, the former things have happened, and
now I declare new things. Before they spring forth I
proclaim them to you.”
“I have kept silent from ages past; I have remained quiet and restrained. But
now I will
groan like a woman in labor; I will at once
gasp and
pant.
But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.
Now this is what the LORD says— He who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine!
Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Behold, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness and streams in the desert.
Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen:
But
now listen, O Jacob My servant, Israel, whom I have chosen.
Therefore hear
now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest
carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:
So
now hear this, O lover of
luxury who sits securely, who says to herself, ‘I am, and there is none besides me. I will never be a widow or know the loss of children.’
Stand
now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy
sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail.
So take your stand with your spells and with your many
sorceries, with which you have
wearied yourself from your youth. Perhaps you will succeed; perhaps you will
inspire terror!
Thou art
wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let
now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.
You are
wearied by your many counselors; let them come forward
now and save you— your astrologers who observe the stars, who monthly
predict your fate.
Thou hast heard, see all this; and will not ye declare it? I have shewed thee new things from this time, even hidden things, and thou
didst not know them.
You have heard these things; look at them all. Will you not acknowledge them? From now on I will tell you of new things, hidden things unknown to you.
They are created now, and not from the beginning; even before the day when thou heardest them not; lest thou shouldest say, Behold, I knew them.
They are created
now, and not long ago; you have not heard of them before
today. So you cannot claim, ‘I already knew them!’
Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me.
Come near to Me and
listen to this: From the beginning I have not spoken in secret; from the time it happened, I was there.” And
now the Lord GOD has sent me, accompanied by His Spirit.
And
now, saith the LORD that formed me from the
womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, and my God shall be my strength.
And
now says the LORD, who formed Me from the
womb to be His Servant, to bring Jacob back to Him, that Israel might be gathered to Him— for I am honored in the sight of the LORD, and My God is My strength—
For thy waste and thy
desolate places, and the land of thy destruction, shall even
now be too narrow by reason of the inhabitants, and they that
swallowed thee up shall be far away.
For your ruined and
desolate places and your
ravaged land will
now indeed be too small for your people, and those who
devoured you will be far away.
Now therefore, what have I here, saith the LORD, that my people is taken away for
nought? they that rule over them make them to
howl, saith the LORD; and my name continually every day is
blasphemed.
And
now what have I here? declares the LORD. For My people have been taken without cause; those who rule them
taunt, declares the LORD, and My name is
blasphemed continually all day long.
As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.
“As for Me, this is My covenant with them,” says the LORD. “My Spirit will not depart from you, and My words that I have put in your mouth will not depart from your mouth or from the mouths of your children and grandchildren, from now on and forevermore,” says the LORD.
But
now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our
potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.
But
now, O LORD, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You are the
potter; we are all the work of Your hand.
For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron
pillar, and
brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.
Now behold, this day I have made you like a fortified city, an iron
pillar, and bronze walls against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests, and the people of the land.
Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Now the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast thou to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?
Now what will you gain on your way to Egypt to drink the waters of the Nile? What will you gain on your way to Assyria to drink the waters of the Euphrates?
The LORD said also unto me in the days of
Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which
backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the
harlot.
Now in the days of King
Josiah, the LORD said to me, “Have you seen what faithless Israel has done? She has gone up on every high hill and under every green tree to
prostitute herself there.
Even a full wind from those places shall come unto me: now also will I give sentence against them.
a wind too strong for that comes from Me.
Now I also
pronounce judgments against them.”
Make ye mention to the nations; behold,
publish against Jerusalem, that watchers come from a far country, and give out their voice against the cities of Judah.
Warn the nations
now!
Proclaim to Jerusalem: “A
besieging army comes from a distant land; they raise their voices against the cities of Judah.
For I have heard a voice as of a woman in
travail, and the
anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of
Zion, that bewaileth herself, that spreadeth her hands, saying,
Woe is me
now! for my soul is
wearied because of murderers.
For I hear a cry like a woman in labor, a cry of
anguish like one bearing her first child— the cry of the Daughter of
Zion gasping for breath, stretching out her hands to say, “
Woe is me, for my soul
faints before the murderers!”
Run ye to and
fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see
now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will
pardon it.
“Go up and down the streets of Jerusalem. Look
now and take note; search her squares. If you can find a single person,
anyone who acts justly,
anyone who seeks the truth, then I will
forgive the city.
Hear
now this, O
foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not:
“Hear this, O
foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear.
Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.
They have not said in their hearts, ‘Let us fear the LORD our God, who gives the rains, both autumn and spring, in season, who keeps for us the appointed weeks of harvest.’
But go ye
now unto my place which was in
Shiloh, where I set my name at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.
But go
now to the place in
Shiloh where I first made a dwelling for My Name, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of My people Israel.
And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the LORD, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not;
And
now, because you have done all these things, declares the LORD, and because I have spoken to you again and again but you would not
listen, and I have called to you but you would not answer,
Therefore will I do unto this house, which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to
Shiloh.
therefore what I did to
Shiloh I will
now do to the house that bears My Name, the house in which you trust, the place that I gave to you and your fathers.
Yet hear the word of the LORD, O ye women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth, and teach your daughters
wailing, and every one her neighbour
lamentation.
Now, O women, hear the word of the LORD. Open your ears to the word of His mouth. Teach your daughters to
wail, and one another to
lament.
Then I went to Euphrates, and
digged, and took the
girdle from the place where I had
hid it: and, behold, the
girdle was
marred, it was profitable for nothing.
So I went to Perath and
dug up the loincloth, and I took it from the place where I had hidden it. But
now it was ruined—of no use at all.
Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to
wander, they have not
refrained their feet, therefore the LORD
doth not accept them; he will
now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.
This is what the LORD says about this people: “Truly they love to
wander; they have not restrained their feet. So the LORD does not accept them; He will
now remember their guilt and call their sins to account.”
Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the LORD, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall
hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.
But for
now I will send for many
fishermen, declares the LORD, and they will catch them. After that I will send for many hunters, and they will
hunt them down on every mountain and hill, even from the clefts of the rocks.
Behold, they say unto me, Where is the word of the LORD? let it come now.
Behold, they keep saying to me, “Where is the word of the LORD? Let it come now!”
Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and
devise a
device against you: return ye
now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.
Now therefore, tell the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem that this is what the LORD says: ‘Behold, I am
planning a
disaster for you and
devising a plan against you. Turn
now, each of you, from your evil ways, and correct your ways and deeds.’
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ask ye
now among the heathen, who hath heard such things: the virgin of Israel hath done a very
horrible thing.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: “Inquire among the nations: Who has ever heard things like these? Virgin Israel has done a most terrible thing.
Now Pashur the son of Immer the priest, who was also chief governor in the house of the LORD, heard that Jeremiah
prophesied these things.
When Pashhur the priest, the son of Immer and the chief official in the house of the LORD, heard Jeremiah
prophesying these things,
And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask thee, saying, What is the burden of the LORD? thou shalt then say unto them, What burden? I will even
forsake you, saith the LORD.
“
Now when this people or a prophet or priest asks you, ‘What is the burden of the LORD?’ you are to say to them, ‘What burden? I will
forsake you, declares the LORD.’
They said, Turn ye again now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD hath given unto you and to your fathers for ever and ever:
The prophets told you, ‘Turn
now, each of you, from your evil ways and deeds, and you can dwell in the land that the LORD has given to you and your fathers
forever and ever.
So the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD.
Now the priests and prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD,
Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him, saying, Thou shalt surely die.
and as soon as he had finished telling all the people everything the LORD had commanded him to say, the priests and prophets and all the people seized him,
shouting, “You must surely die!
Therefore
now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will
repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you.
So
now, correct your ways and deeds, and obey the voice of the LORD your God, so that He might relent of the
disaster He has pronounced against you.
And there was also a man that
prophesied in the name of the LORD, Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjath-jearim, who
prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah:
Now there was another man
prophesying in the name of the LORD, Uriah son of Shemaiah from Kiriath-jearim. He
prophesied against this city and against this land the same things that Jeremiah did.
And
now have I given all these lands into the hand of
Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and the beasts of the field have I given him also to serve him.
So
now I have placed all these lands under the authority of My servant
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. I have even made the beasts of the field subject to him.
Also I spake to the priests and to all this people, saying, Thus saith the LORD;
Hearken not to the words of your prophets that
prophesy unto you, saying, Behold, the vessels of the LORD’S house shall
now shortly be brought again from Babylon: for they
prophesy a lie unto you.
Then I said to the priests and to all this people, “This is what the LORD says: Do not
listen to the words of your prophets who
prophesy to you, saying, ‘Look, very soon
now the articles from the house of the LORD will be brought back from Babylon.’ They are
prophesying to you a lie.
But if they be prophets, and if the word of the LORD be with them, let them
now make
intercession to the LORD of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, go not to Babylon.
If they are indeed prophets and the word of the LORD is with them, let them
now plead with the LORD of Hosts that the articles remaining in the house of the LORD, in the palace of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem, not be taken to Babylon.
Nevertheless hear thou now this word that I speak in thine ears, and in the ears of all the people;
Nevertheless,
listen now to this message I am speaking in your hearing and in the hearing of all the people.
Then said the prophet Jeremiah unto Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah; The LORD hath not sent thee; but thou makest this people to trust in a lie.
Then the prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah, “
Listen, Hananiah! The LORD did not send you, but you have persuaded this people to trust in a lie.
Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away
captives, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom
Nebuchadnezzar had carried away
captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;
This is the text of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to the
surviving elders among the exiles and to the priests, the prophets, and all the others
Nebuchadnezzar had carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon.
Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himself a prophet to you?
So
now, why have you not
rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth, who poses as a prophet among you?
Ask ye
now, and see whether a man
doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in
travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?
Ask now, and see: Can a male give birth? Why then do I see every man with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labor and every face turned pale?
Now when I had delivered the evidence of the purchase unto
Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed unto the LORD, saying,
After I had given the deed of purchase to
Baruch son of Neriah, I prayed to the LORD:
Behold the mounts, they are come unto the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans, that fight against it, because of the sword, and of the famine, and of the
pestilence: and what thou hast spoken is come to pass; and, behold, thou seest it.
See how the siege ramps are mounted against the city to capture it. And by sword and famine and plague, the city has been given into the hands of the Chaldeans who are fighting against it. What You have spoken has happened, as You now see!
For this city hath been to me as a
provocation of mine anger and of my
fury from the day that they built it even unto this day; that I should remove it from before my face,
For this city has
aroused My wrath and
fury from the day it was built until
now. Therefore I will remove it from My presence
And
now therefore thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning this city,
whereof ye say, It shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by the famine, and by the
pestilence;
Now therefore, about this city of which you say, ‘It will be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon by sword and famine and plague,’ this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says:
Now when all the princes, and all the people, which had entered into the covenant, heard that every one should let his
manservant, and every one his
maidservant, go free, that none should serve themselves of them any more, then they obeyed, and let them go.
So all the officials and all the people who entered into this covenant agreed that they would free their menservants and maidservants and no longer hold them in
bondage. They obeyed and released them,
And ye were
now turned, and had done right in my sight, in
proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbour; and ye had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:
Recently you
repented and did what pleased Me; each of you proclaimed freedom for his
neighbor. You made a covenant before Me in the house that bears My Name.
But ye turned and
polluted my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his
handmaid, whom ye had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return, and brought them into subjection, to be unto you for servants and for handmaids.
But
now you have changed your minds and
profaned My name. Each of you has taken back the menservants and maidservants whom you had set at liberty to go wherever they wanted, and you have again forced them to be your slaves.
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ye have not
hearkened unto me, in
proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother, and every man to his neighbour: behold, I
proclaim a liberty for you, saith the LORD, to the sword, to the
pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: You have not obeyed Me; you have not proclaimed freedom, each man for his brother and for his
neighbor. So
now I
proclaim freedom for you, declares the LORD—freedom to fall by sword, by plague, and by famine! I will make you a
horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.
I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye
now every man from his evil way, and
amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor
hearkened unto me.
Again and again I have sent you all My servants the prophets,
proclaiming: ‘Turn
now, each of you, from your wicked ways, and correct your actions. Do not go after other gods to serve them. Live in the land that I have given to you and your fathers.’ But you have not inclined your ear or
listened to Me.
