And it came to
pass, as we went to prayer, a certain
damsel possessed with a spirit of
divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by
soothsaying:
One day as we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave
girl with a spirit of
divination, who
earned a large income for her masters by fortune-telling.
For as I
passed by, and
beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.
For as I walked around and examined your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore what you worship as something unknown, I now
proclaim to you.
And when he was disposed to
pass into
Achaia, the brethren wrote,
exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace:
When Apollos resolved to cross over to
Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote to the disciples there to
welcome him. On his arrival, he was a great help to those who by grace had believed.
And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the interior and came to Ephesus. There he found some disciples
After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had
passed through
Macedonia and
Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.
After these things had happened, Paul resolved in the Spirit to go to Jerusalem after he had
passed through
Macedonia and
Achaia. “After I have been there,” he said, “I must see Rome as well.”
And it came to
pass, that after we were
gotten from them, and had
launched, we came with a straight course unto Coos, and the day following unto
Rhodes, and from thence unto Patara:
After we had
torn ourselves away from them, we sailed directly to Cos, and the next day on to
Rhodes, and from there to Patara.
Now when we had discovered
Cyprus, we left it on the left hand, and sailed into Syria, and landed at Tyre: for there the ship was to
unlade her burden.
After sighting
Cyprus and
passing south of it, we sailed on to Syria and landed at Tyre, where the ship was to unload its
cargo.
And it came to
pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come
nigh unto Damascus about
noon, suddenly there
shone from heaven a great light round about me.
About
noon as I was approaching Damascus, suddenly a bright light from heaven
flashed around me.
And it came to
pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a
trance;
Later, when I had returned to Jerusalem and was praying at the temple, I fell into a
trance But after two years Porcius
Festus came into
Felix’ room: and
Felix, willing to
shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.
After two years had
passed,
Felix was succeeded by Porcius
Festus. And wishing to do the Jews a favor,
Felix left Paul in prison.
After several days had
passed, King
Agrippa and
Bernice came down to Caesarea to pay their respects to
Festus.
And, hardly
passing it, came unto a place which is called The fair havens;
nigh whereunto was the city of Lasea.
After we had moved along the coast with difficulty, we came to a place called Fair Havens, near the town of Lasea.
Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul
admonished them,
By now much time had
passed, and the voyage had already become dangerous because it was after the Fast. So Paul
advised them,
And running under a certain island which is called Clauda, we had much work to come by the boat:
Passing to the
lee of a small island called Cauda, we barely managed to secure the
lifeboat.
And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.
The rest were to follow on planks and various parts of the ship. In this way
everyone was brought safely to land.
And it came to
pass, that the father of
Publius lay sick of a fever and of a
bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and
healed him.
The father of
Publius was sick in bed, suffering from fever and
dysentery. Paul went in to see him, and after praying and placing his hands on him, he
healed the man.
And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.
After three days, he called together the leaders of the Jews. When they had gathered, he said to them, “Brothers, although I have done nothing against our people or the customs of our fathers, I was taken prisoner in Jerusalem and handed over to the Romans.
For this cause God gave them up unto
vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
For this reason God gave them over to dishonorable passions. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones.
Therefore thou art
inexcusable, O man,
whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest
thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
You, therefore, have no
excuse, you who
pass judgment on another. For on whatever grounds you judge the other, you are
condemning yourself, because you who
pass judgment do the same things.
And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
So when you, O man, pass judgment on others, yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgment?
Whom God hath set forth to be a
propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the
forbearance of God;
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death
passed upon all men, for that all have
sinned:
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death was
passed on to all men, because all
sinned.
For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
For when we lived according to the flesh, the sinful
passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, bearing fruit for death.
And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.
and, “It will happen that in the very place where it was said to them, ‘You are not My people,’ they will be called ‘sons of the living God.’”
Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.
Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on his opinions.
But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.
But if they cannot control themselves, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.
And they that use this world, as not
abusing it: for the fashion of this world
passeth away.
and those who use the things of this world, as if not dependent on them. For this world in its present form is passing away.
But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.
However, if someone thinks he is acting inappropriately toward his
betrothed, and if she is beyond her youth and they ought to marry, let him do as he wishes; he is not
sinning; they should get married.
Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud, and that they all passed through the sea.
Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.
Now I
commend you for remembering me in everything and for maintaining the traditions, just as I
passed them on to you.
For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was
betrayed took bread:
For I received from the Lord what I also
passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night He was
betrayed, took bread,
But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
but when the perfect comes, the partial passes away.
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this
mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to
pass the saying that is written, Death is
swallowed up in victory.
When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable and the
mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come to
pass: “Death has been
swallowed up in victory.”
Now I will come unto you, when I shall
pass through
Macedonia: for I do
pass through
Macedonia.
After I go through
Macedonia, however, I will come to you; for I will be going through
Macedonia.
For I will not see you now by the way; but I trust to
tarry a while with you, if the Lord permit.
For I do not want to see you now only in
passing; I hope to
spend some time with you, if the Lord permits.
And to
pass by you into
Macedonia, and to come again out of
Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judaea.
I wanted to visit you on my way to
Macedonia, and to return to you from
Macedonia, and then to have you help me on my way to
Judea.
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Therefore if
anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has
passed away. Behold, the new has come!
And they that are Christ’s have
crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have
crucified the flesh with its
passions and desires.
And to know the love of Christ, which
passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the
fulness of God.
of the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
For
verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer
tribulation; even as it came to
pass, and ye know.
Indeed, when we were with you, we kept
warning you that we would suffer persecution; and as you know, it has come to
pass.
not in
lustful passion like the Gentiles who do not know God;
But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax
wanton against Christ, they will marry;
But refuse to
enroll younger widows. For when their
passions draw them away from Christ, they will want to marry,
Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
Flee from youthful
passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, together with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
Teaching us that, denying
ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live
soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
It instructs us to
renounce ungodliness and worldly
passions, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives in the present age,
And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
And again, as He says in the passage above: “They shall never enter My rest.”
Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has
passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we
profess.
As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
In the passage above He says, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings You did not desire, nor did You delight in them” (although they are offered according to the law).
By faith they
passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians
assaying to do were
drowned.
By faith the people
passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to follow, they were
drowned.
But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
But the one who is rich should
exult in his low position, because he will
pass away like a flower of the field.
From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
What causes conflicts and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from the passions at war within you?
Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.
As
obedient children, not fashioning
yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
As
obedient children, do not
conform to the
passions of your former ignorance.
And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work,
pass the time of your
sojourning here in fear:
Since you call on a Father who judges each one’s work impartially, conduct
yourselves in
reverent fear during your stay as foreigners.
That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
Consequently, he does not live out his remaining time on earth for human passions, but for the will of God.
For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they
allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much
wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
With lofty but empty words, they appeal to the
sensual passions of the flesh and
entice those who are just escaping from others who live in error.
For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than to have known it and then to turn away from the holy commandment passed on to them.
But the day of the Lord will come as a
thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall
pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall
melt with
fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
But the Day of the Lord will come like a
thief. The heavens will disappear with a
roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and its works will be laid bare.
And the world
passeth away, and the
lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
The world is
passing away, along with its desires; but
whoever does the will of God remains
forever.
We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. The one who does not love remains in death.
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to
shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to
pass; and he sent and
signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
This is the revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants what must soon come to pass. He made it known by sending His angel to His servant John,
One
woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more
hereafter.
The first
woe has
passed. Behold, two woes are still to follow.
The second
woe is past; and, behold, the third
woe cometh quickly.
The second
woe has
passed. Behold, the third
woe is coming shortly.
And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her
fornication.
Then a second angel followed, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, who has made all the nations drink the wine of the passion of her immorality.”
For all nations have
drunk of the wine of the wrath of her
fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed
fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her
delicacies.
All the nations have
drunk the wine of the
passion of her immorality. The kings of the earth were immoral with her, and the merchants of the earth have grown wealthy from the
extravagance of her
luxury.”
For in one hour so great riches is come to
nought. And every
shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood
afar off,
For in a single hour such
fabulous wealth has been destroyed!” Every
shipmaster,
passenger, and
sailor, and all who make their living from the sea, will stand at a distance
And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
And God shall
wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are
passed away.
‘He will
wipe away every
tear from their eyes,’ and there will be no more death or
mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have
passed away.”
And Josias held the feast of the
passover in Jerusalem unto his Lord, and offered the
passover the
fourteenth day of the first month;
Offer the
passover in order, and make ready the sacrifices for your brethren, and keep the
passover according to the commandment of the Lord, which was given unto Moses.
And Helkias,
Zacharias, and Syelus, the governors of the temple, gave to the priests for the
passover two thousand and six hundred sheep, and three hundred
calves.
And Jeconias, and Samaias, and
Nathanael his brother, and Assabias, and Ochiel, and
Joram, captains over thousands, gave to the Levites for the
passover five thousand sheep, and seven hundred
calves.
And they
roasted the
passover with fire, as appertaineth: as for the sacrifices, they
sod them in brass pots and pans with a good savour,
Thus were the things that belonged to the sacrifices of the Lord accomplished in that day, that they might hold the
passover,
So the children of Israel which were present held the
passover at that time, and the feast of sweet bread seven days.
And such a
passover was not kept in Israel since the time of the prophet Samuel.
Yea, all the kings of Israel held not such a
passover as Josias, and the priests, and the Levites, and the Jews, held with all Israel that were found dwelling at Jerusalem.
As for the things that came to
pass in his time, they were written in former times, concerning those that
sinned, and did wickedly against the Lord above all people and kingdoms, and how they
grieved him exceedingly, so that the words of the Lord rose up against Israel.
Now after all these acts of Josias it came to pass, that Pharaoh the king of Egypt came to raise war at Carchamis upon Euphrates: and Josias went out against him.
The governors also of the people and of the priests did many things against the laws, and
passed all the pollutions of all nations, and
defiled the temple of the Lord, which was
sanctified in Jerusalem.
Wherefore now we do declare unto thee, O lord the king, that if this city be built again, and the walls thereof set up
anew, thou shalt from henceforth have no
passage into Celosyria and Phenice.
And the children of Israel that were of the captivity held the
passover the
fourteenth day of the first month, after that the priests and the Levites were
sanctified.
And so they offered the
passover for all them of the captivity, and for their brethren the priests, and for themselves.
I led you through the sea and in the beginning gave you a large and safe passage; I gave you Moses for a leader, and Aaron for a priest.
And it came to pass in every of them, that as death was to Adam, so was the flood to these.
And it came to
pass, that when thou leadest his seed out of Egypt, thou broughtest them up to the mount
Sinai.
So the times
passed away, and the years were brought to an end: then
didst thou raise thee up a servant, called David:
Nevertheless now have I asked thee but only of the fire and wind, and of the day
wherethrough thou hast
passed, and of things from which thou canst not be separated, and yet canst thou give me no answer of them.
For it was not my mind to be curious of the high things, but of such as
pass by us daily, namely, wherefore Israel is given up as a reproach to the heathen, and for what cause the people whom thou hast loved is given over unto ungodly nations, and why the law of our forefathers is brought to
nought, and the written covenants come to none effect,
And we
pass away out of the world as grasshoppers, and our life is
astonishment and fear, and we are not worthy to obtain mercy.
Then answered he me, and said, The more thou searchest, the more thou shalt
marvel; for the world hasteth fast to
pass away,
