Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the
skies pour down
righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let
righteousness spring up together; I the LORD have created it.
Drip down, O heavens, from above, and let the
skies pour down
righteousness. Let the earth open up that salvation may
sprout and
righteousness spring up with it; I, the LORD, have created it.
I have raised him up in
righteousness, and I will direct all his ways: he shall build my city, and he shall let go my
captives, not for price nor reward, saith the LORD of hosts.
I will raise up Cyrus in righteousness, and I will make all his ways straight. He will rebuild My city and set My exiles free, but not for payment or reward, says the LORD of Hosts.”
I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.
I have not spoken in secret, from a place in a land of darkness. I did not say to the descendants of Jacob, ‘Seek Me in a wasteland.’ I, the LORD, speak the truth; I say what is right.
Tell ye, and bring them near;
yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.
Speak up and present your case—
yes, let them take counsel together. Who
foretold this long ago? Who
announced it from ancient times? Was it not I, the LORD? There is no other God but Me, a
righteous God and
Savior; there is none but Me.
I have
sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in
righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every
knee shall bow, every tongue shall
swear.
By Myself I have
sworn; truth has gone out from My mouth, a word that will not be
revoked: Every
knee will bow before Me, every tongue will
swear allegiance.
Surely, shall one say, in the LORD have I
righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be
ashamed.
Surely they will say of Me, ‘In the LORD alone are
righteousness and strength.’” All who
rage against Him will come to Him and be put to shame.
Hearken unto me, ye stouthearted, that are far from
righteousness:
I bring near my
righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not
tarry: and I will place salvation in
Zion for Israel my glory.
I am bringing My
righteousness near; it is not far away, and My salvation will not be delayed. I will grant salvation to
Zion and
adorn Israel with My
splendor.
Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which
swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in
righteousness.
“
Listen to this, O house of Jacob, you who are called by the name of Israel, who have descended from the line of Judah, who
swear by the name of the LORD, who
invoke the God of Israel— but not in truth or
righteousness—
Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my
right hand hath
spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.
Surely My own hand founded the earth, and My
right hand spread out the heavens; when I
summon them, they stand up together.
O that thou hadst
hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy
righteousness as the waves of the sea:
If only you had paid attention to My commandments, your peace would have been like a river, and your righteousness like waves of the sea.
Hearken to me, ye that follow after
righteousness, ye that seek the LORD: look unto the rock whence ye are
hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence ye are
digged.
“
Listen to Me, you who pursue
righteousness, you who seek the LORD: Look to the rock from which you were cut, and to the
quarry from which you were
hewn.
My righteousness is near; my salvation is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge the people; the isles shall wait upon me, and on mine arm shall they trust.
My righteousness draws near, My salvation is on the way, and My arms will bring justice to the nations. The islands will look for Me and wait in hope for My arm.
Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall
vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my
righteousness shall not be abolished.
Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look at the earth below; for the heavens will
vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment, and its people will die like gnats. But My salvation will last
forever, and My
righteousness will never fail.
Hearken unto me, ye that know
righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings.
Listen to Me, you who know what is
right, you people with My law in your hearts: Do not fear the
scorn of men; do not be broken by their insults.
For the
moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool: but my
righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation.
For the
moth will
devour them like a garment, and the worm will eat them like wool. But My
righteousness will last
forever, My salvation through all generations.”
He shall see of the
travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my
righteous servant
justify many; for he shall bear their
iniquities.
After the
anguish of His soul, He will see the light of life and be satisfied. By His knowledge My
righteous Servant will
justify many, and He will bear their
iniquities.
For thou shalt break forth on the
right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall
inherit the Gentiles, and make the
desolate cities to be inhabited.
For you will spread out to the
right and left; your descendants will dispossess the nations and inhabit the
desolate cities.
In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.
In righteousness you will be established, far from oppression, for you will have no fear. Terror will be far removed, for it will not come near you.
No weapon that is formed against thee shall
prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt
condemn. This is the
heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their
righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.
No weapon formed against you shall
prosper, and you will
refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the
heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their
vindication is from Me,” declares the LORD.
Thus saith the LORD, Keep ye judgment, and do justice: for my salvation is near to come, and my righteousness to be revealed.
This is what the LORD says: “Maintain justice and do what is right, for My salvation is coming soon, and My righteousness will be revealed.
The
righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and
merciful men are taken away, none considering that the
righteous is taken away from the evil to come.
The
righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart;
devout men are swept away, while no one considers that the
righteous are guided from the presence of evil.
I will declare thy righteousness, and thy works; for they shall not profit thee.
I will
expose your
righteousness and your works, and they will not profit you.
Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did
righteousness, and
forsook not the
ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching to God.
For day after day they seek Me and delight to know My ways, like a nation that does what is
right and does not
forsake the justice of their God. They ask Me for
righteous judgments; they delight in the nearness of God.”
Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward.
Then your light will break forth like the
dawn, and your
healing will come quickly. Your
righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.
Therefore is judgment far from us, neither
doth justice overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in darkness.
Therefore justice is far from us, and
righteousness does not reach us. We hope for light, but there is darkness; for brightness, but we walk in
gloom.
And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth
afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and
equity cannot enter.
So justice is turned away, and
righteousness stands at a distance. For truth has
stumbled in the public square, and
honesty cannot enter.
And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no
intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his
righteousness, it sustained him.
He saw that there was no man; He was
amazed that there was no one to
intercede. So His own arm brought salvation, and His own
righteousness sustained Him.
For he put on
righteousness as a
breastplate, and an
helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of
vengeance for clothing, and was
clad with zeal as a
cloke.
For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron: I will also make thy officers peace, and thine exactors righteousness.
Instead of bronze I will bring you gold; I will bring silver in place of iron, bronze instead of wood, and iron instead of stones. I will
appoint peace as your governor and
righteousness as your ruler.
Thy people also shall be all
righteous: they shall
inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be
glorified.
Then all your people will be
righteous; they will possess the land
forever; they are the branch of My planting, the work of My hands, so that I may be
glorified.
To
appoint unto them that
mourn in
Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for
mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of
heaviness; that they might be called trees of
righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be
glorified.
to
console the mourners in
Zion— to give them a crown of beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for
mourning, and a garment of praise for a spirit of
despair. So they will be called oaks of
righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be
glorified.
I will greatly
rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the
robe of
righteousness, as a
bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a
bride adorneth herself with her jewels.
I will
rejoice greatly in the LORD, my soul will
exult in my God; for He has clothed me with garments of salvation and
wrapped me in a
robe of
righteousness, as a
bridegroom wears a priestly
headdress, as a
bride adorns herself with her jewels.
For as the earth bringeth forth her
bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause
righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.
For as the earth brings forth its growth, and as a garden enables seed to spring up, so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations.
For
Zion’s sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until the
righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth.
For
Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not keep still, until her
righteousness shines like a bright light, her salvation like a
blazing torch.
And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name.
Nations will see your
righteousness, and all kings your glory. You will be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will
bestow.
The LORD hath
sworn by his
right hand, and by the arm of his strength, Surely I will no more give thy corn to be meat for thine enemies; and the sons of the stranger shall not drink thy wine, for the which thou hast laboured:
The LORD has
sworn by His
right hand and by His mighty arm: “Never again will I give your grain to your enemies for food, nor will foreigners drink the new wine for which you have
toiled.
Who is this that cometh from
Edom, with
dyed garments from
Bozrah? this that is glorious in his
apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in
righteousness, mighty to save.
That led them by the
right hand of Moses with his glorious arm, dividing the water before them, to make himself an
everlasting name?
who sent His glorious arm to lead them by the
right hand of Moses, who divided the waters before them to gain for Himself
everlasting renown,
Thou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh
righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou art
wroth; for we have
sinned: in those is continuance, and we shall be saved.
You
welcome those who
gladly do
right, who remember Your ways. Surely You were
angry, for we
sinned. How can we be saved if we remain in our sins?
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our
righteousnesses are as
filthy rags; and we all do
fade as a leaf; and our
iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Each of us has become like something unclean, and all our
righteous acts are like
filthy rags; we all wither like a leaf, and our
iniquities carry us away like the wind.
Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a
right seed: how then art thou turned into the
degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?
I had planted you like a choice vine from the very best seed. How could you turn
yourself before Me into a
rotten, wild vine?
And the LORD said to me, “Faithless Israel has shown herself more righteous than unfaithful Judah.
And thou shalt
swear, The LORD liveth, in truth, in judgment, and in
righteousness; and the nations shall
bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.
and if you can
swear, ‘As surely as the LORD lives,’ in truth, in justice, and in
righteousness, then the nations will be blessed by Him, and in Him they will glory.”
They are
waxen fat, they
shine:
yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they
prosper; and the
right of the
needy do they not judge.
They have grown fat and
sleek, and have
excelled in the deeds of the wicked. They have not taken up the cause of the fatherless, that they might
prosper; nor have they defended the
rights of the
needy.
I
hearkened and heard, but they spake not
aright: no man
repented him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the battle.
I have
listened and heard; they do not speak what is
right. No one repents of his wickedness, asking, ‘What have I done?’
Everyone has pursued his own course like a horse charging into battle.
But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.
But let him who boasts
boast in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD, who exercises loving devotion, justice and
righteousness on the earth— for I delight in these things,” declares the LORD.
What hath my beloved to do in mine house, seeing she hath wrought
lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest.
What
right has My beloved in My house, having carried out so many evil schemes? Can consecrated meat
avert your
doom, so that you can
rejoice?
But, O LORD of hosts, that judgest
righteously, that triest the
reins and the heart, let me see thy
vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause.
O LORD of Hosts, who judges
righteously, who examines the heart and mind, let me see Your
vengeance upon them, for to You I have committed my cause.
Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I
plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore
doth the way of the wicked
prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very
treacherously?
Righteous are You, O LORD, when I
plead before You. Yet about Your judgments I wish to
contend with You: Why does the way of the wicked
prosper? Why do all the faithless live at ease?
As the
partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by
right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a
fool.
Like a
partridge hatching eggs it did not lay is the man who makes a fortune unjustly. In the middle of his days his riches will desert him, and in the end he will be the
fool.”
As for me, I have not
hastened from being a
pastor to follow thee: neither have I desired the
woeful day; thou knowest: that which came out of my lips was
right before thee.
But I have not run away from being Your
shepherd; I have not desired the day of
despair. You know that the
utterance of my lips was spoken in Your presence.
But, O LORD of hosts, that triest the
righteous, and seest the
reins and the heart, let me see thy
vengeance on them: for unto thee have I opened my cause.
O LORD of Hosts, who examines the
righteous, who sees the heart and mind, let me see Your
vengeance upon them, for to You I have committed my cause.
Thus saith the LORD;
Execute ye judgment and
righteousness, and deliver the
spoiled out of the hand of the
oppressor: and do no wrong, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place.
This is what the LORD says:
Administer justice and
righteousness.
Rescue the
victim of
robbery from the hand of his
oppressor. Do no wrong or violence to the foreigner, the fatherless, or the widow. Do not shed innocent blood in this place.
Shalt thou reign, because thou closest
thyself in
cedar? did not thy father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, and then it was well with him?
Does it make you a king to
excel in
cedar? Did not your father have food and drink? He administered justice and
righteousness, and so it went well with him.
As I live, saith the LORD, though Coniah the son of
Jehoiakim king of Judah were the
signet upon my
right hand, yet would I
pluck thee thence;
“As surely as I live,” declares the LORD, “even if you, Coniah son of
Jehoiakim king of Judah, were a
signet ring on My
right hand, I would pull you off.
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a
righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and
prosper, and shall
execute judgment and justice in the earth.
Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will raise up for David a
righteous Branch, and He will reign wisely as King and will
administer justice and
righteousness in the land.
In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is His name by which He will be called: The LORD Our Righteousness.
For the land is full of adulterers; for because of
swearing the land mourneth; the pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up, and their course is evil, and their force is not
right.
For the land is full of adulterers— because of the
curse, the land mourns and the pastures of the wilderness have dried up— their course is evil and their power is misused.
As for me, behold, I am in your hand: do with me as seemeth good and meet unto you.
As for me, here I am in your hands; do to me what you think is good and right.
Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will bring again the captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have mercy on his dwellingplaces; and the city shall be builded upon her own
heap, and the palace shall remain after the manner thereof.
This is what the LORD says: “I will restore the fortunes of Jacob’s tents and have
compassion on his dwellings. And the city will be rebuilt on her own ruins, and the palace will stand in its
rightful place.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As yet they shall use this speech in the land of Judah and in the cities thereof, when I shall bring again their captivity; The LORD
bless thee, O
habitation of justice, and mountain of
holiness.
This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “When I restore them from captivity, they will once again speak this word in the land of Judah and in its cities: ‘May the LORD
bless you, O
righteous dwelling place, O holy mountain.’
Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum thine uncle shall come unto thee, saying,
Buy thee my field that is in Anathoth: for the
right of
redemption is thine to
buy it.
Behold! Hanamel, the son of your uncle Shallum, is coming to you to say, ‘
Buy for
yourself my field in Anathoth, for you have the
right of
redemption to
buy it.’
So Hanameel mine uncle’s son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the LORD, and said unto me,
Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: for the
right of inheritance is thine, and the
redemption is thine;
buy it for
thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.
Then, as the LORD had said, my cousin Hanamel came to me in the
courtyard of the guard and urged me, ‘Please
buy my field in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, for you own the
right of inheritance and
redemption.
Buy it for
yourself.’” Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.
In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of
righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall
execute judgment and
righteousness in the land.
In those days and at that time I will cause to
sprout for David a
righteous Branch, and He will
administer justice and
righteousness in the land.
In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name
wherewith she shall be called, The LORD our
righteousness.
In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell securely, and this is the name by which it will be called: The LORD Our Righteousness.
And ye were now turned, and had done
right in my sight, in
proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbour; and ye had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:
Recently you
repented and did what pleased Me; each of you proclaimed freedom for his
neighbor. You made a covenant before Me in the house that bears My Name.
And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thine hand. If it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well unto thee: but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon,
forbear: behold, all the land is before thee:
whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go.
But now, behold, I am freeing you
today from the chains that were on your wrists. If it pleases you to come with me to Babylon, then come, and I will take care of you. But if it seems wrong to you to come with me to Babylon, go no farther. Look, the whole land is before you. Wherever it seems good and
right to you, go there.”
Now while he was not yet gone back, he said, Go back also to Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people: or go
wheresoever it seemeth convenient unto thee to go. So the captain of the guard gave him
victuals and a reward, and let him go.
But before Jeremiah turned to go, Nebuzaradan added, “Return to Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed over the cities of Judah, and stay with him among the people, or go
anywhere else that seems
right.” Then the captain of the guard gave him a
ration and a gift and released him.
Behold, I will bring a fear upon thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts, from all those that be about thee; and ye shall be driven out every man right forth; and none shall gather up him that wandereth.
Behold, I am about to bring terror upon you, declares the Lord GOD of Hosts, from all those around you. You will each be driven
headlong, with no one to regather the fugitives.
The LORD hath brought forth our
righteousness: come, and let us declare in
Zion the work of the LORD our God.
“The LORD has brought forth our
vindication; come, let us tell in
Zion what the LORD our God has accomplished.”
The LORD is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment: hear, I pray you, all people, and behold my sorrow: my virgins and my young men are gone into captivity.
The LORD is
righteous, for I have rebelled against His command.
Listen, all you people; look upon my suffering. My young men and maidens have gone into captivity.
He hath cut off in his fierce anger all the horn of Israel: he hath drawn back his right hand from before the enemy, and he burned against Jacob like a flaming fire, which devoureth round about.
In fierce anger He has cut off every horn of Israel and withdrawn His right hand at the approach of the enemy. He has burned in Jacob like a flaming fire that consumes everything around it.
He hath bent his bow like an enemy: he stood with his
right hand as an
adversary, and
slew all that were pleasant to the eye in the tabernacle of the daughter of
Zion: he poured out his
fury like fire.
He has bent His bow like an enemy; His
right hand is positioned. Like a
foe He has killed all who were pleasing to the eye; He has poured out His wrath like fire on the tent of the Daughter of
Zion.
To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the most High,
to deny a man justice before the Most High,
For the sins of her prophets, and the
iniquities of her priests, that have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her,
But this was for the sins of her prophets and the guilt of her priests, who shed the blood of the righteous in her midst.
As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle.
The form of their faces was that of a man, and each of the four had the face of a lion on the right side, the face of an ox on the left side, and also the face of an eagle.
Again, When a
righteous man
doth turn from his
righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him
warning, he shall die in his sin, and his
righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
Now if a
righteous man turns from his
righteousness and commits iniquity, and I put a
stumbling block before him, he will die. If you did not
warn him, he will die in his sin, and the
righteous acts he did will not be remembered. And I will hold you responsible for his blood.
Nevertheless if thou
warn the
righteous man, that the
righteous sin not, and he
doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is
warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul.
But if you
warn the
righteous man not to sin, and he does not sin, he will indeed live because he
heeded your
warning, and you will have saved
yourself.”
And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days: I have appointed thee each day for a year.
When you have completed these days, lie down again, but on your right side, and bear the iniquity of the house of Judah. I have assigned to you 40 days, a day for each year.
Now the cherubims stood on the right side of the house, when the man went in; and the cloud filled the inner court.
Now when the man went in, the
cherubim were standing on the south side of the temple, and a cloud filled the inner court.
Because with lies ye have made the heart of the
righteous sad, whom I have not made
sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:
Because you have
disheartened the
righteous with your lies, even though I have caused them no grief, and because you have encouraged the wicked not to turn from their evil ways to save their lives,
Though these three men,
Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their
righteousness, saith the Lord GOD.
then even if these three men—
Noah, Daniel, and Job—were in it, their
righteousness could deliver only themselves, declares the Lord GOD.
Though
Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their
righteousness.
then as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, even if
Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, they could not deliver their own sons or daughters. Their
righteousness could deliver only themselves.
And thine elder sister is Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell at thy left hand: and thy younger sister, that dwelleth at thy
right hand, is
Sodom and her daughters.
Your older sister was Samaria, who lived with her daughters to your north; and your younger sister was
Sodom, who lived with her daughters to your south.
Neither hath Samaria committed half of thy sins; but thou hast multiplied thine abominations more than they, and hast justified thy sisters in all thine abominations which thou hast done.
Furthermore, Samaria did not commit half the sins you did. You have multiplied your abominations beyond theirs, and all the abominations you have committed have made your sisters appear
righteous.
Thou also, which hast judged thy sisters, bear thine own shame for thy sins that thou hast committed more
abominable than they: they are more
righteous than thou:
yea, be thou confounded also, and bear thy shame, in that thou hast justified thy sisters.
So now you must bear your disgrace, since you have brought
justification for your sisters. For they appear more
righteous than you, because your sins were more
vile than theirs. So you too must bear your shame and disgrace, since you have made your sisters appear
righteous.
But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,
Now suppose a man is righteous and does what is just and right:
Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord GOD.
He follows My statutes and faithfully keeps My ordinances. That man is righteous; surely he will live, declares the Lord GOD.
Yet say ye, Why?
doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and
right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.
Yet you may ask, ‘Why shouldn’t the son bear the iniquity of his father?’ Since the son has done what is just and right, carefully observing all My statutes, he will surely live.
The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
The soul who sins is the one who will die. A son will not bear the iniquity of his father, and a father will not bear the iniquity of his son. The righteousness of the righteous man will fall upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked man will fall upon him.
But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
But if the wicked man turns from all the sins he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is just and right, he will surely live; he will not die.
All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.
None of the transgressions he has committed will be held against him. Because of the righteousness he has practiced, he will live.
But when the
righteous turneth away from his
righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his
righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his
trespass that he hath
trespassed, and in his sin that he hath
sinned, in them shall he die.
But if a
righteous man turns from his
righteousness and practices iniquity,
committing the same abominations as the wicked, will he live? None of the
righteous acts he did will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness and sin he has committed, he will die.
When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.
If a righteous man turns from his righteousness and practices iniquity, he will die for this. He will die because of the iniquity he has committed.
Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.
But if a wicked man turns from the wickedness he has committed and does what is just and right, he will save his life.
And say to the land of Israel, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I am against thee, and will draw forth my sword out of his
sheath, and will cut off from thee the
righteous and the wicked.
and tell her that this is what the LORD says: ‘I am against you, and I will draw My sword from its
sheath and cut off from you both the
righteous and the wicked.
Seeing then that I will cut off from thee the
righteous and the wicked, therefore shall my sword go forth out of his
sheath against all flesh from the south to the north:
Because I will cut off both the
righteous and the wicked, My sword will be
unsheathed against
everyone from south to north.
Go thee one way or other, either on the
right hand, or on the left,
whithersoever thy face is set.
Slash to the
right; set your
blade to the left— wherever your
blade is directed.
At his
right hand was the
divination for Jerusalem, to
appoint captains, to open the mouth in the slaughter, to lift up the voice with
shouting, to
appoint battering rams against the gates, to cast a mount, and to build a fort.
In his
right hand appears the
portent for Jerusalem, where he is to set up
battering rams, to call for the slaughter, to lift a battle cry, to direct the
battering rams against the gates, to build a
ramp, and to erect a siege wall.
