The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter of thy father, or daughter of thy mother, whether she be born at home, or born abroad, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover.
You must not have sexual relations with your sister, either your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether she was born in the same home or elsewhere.
The nakedness of thy father’s wife’s daughter,
begotten of thy father, she is thy
sister, thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.
You must not have sexual relations with the daughter of your father’s wife, born to your father; she is your sister.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father’s
sister: she is thy father’s near
kinswoman.
You must not have sexual relations with your father’s sister; she is your father’s close relative.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother’s

kinswoman.

And the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of
Canaan, that reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose host was
Sisera, which dwelt in
Harosheth of the Gentiles.
So the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of
Canaan, who reigned in Hazor. The commander of his forces was
Sisera, who lived in
Harosheth-hagoyim.
And I will draw unto thee to the river
Kishon Sisera, the captain of Jabin’s army, with his
chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into thine hand.
And I will draw out
Sisera the commander of Jabin’s army, his
chariots, and his troops to the River
Kishon, and I will deliver him into your hand.’”
And she said, I will surely go with thee: notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honour; for the LORD shall sell
Sisera into the hand of a woman. And
Deborah arose, and went with
Barak to Kedesh.
“I will certainly go with you,”
Deborah replied, “but the road you are taking will bring you no honor, because the LORD will be selling
Sisera into the hand of a woman.” So
Deborah got up and went with
Barak to Kedesh,
And they shewed
Sisera that
Barak the son of Abinoam was gone up to mount
Tabor.
When
Sisera was told that
Barak son of Abinoam had gone up Mount
Tabor,
And
Sisera gathered together all his
chariots, even nine hundred
chariots of iron, and all the people that were with him, from
Harosheth of the Gentiles unto the river of
Kishon.
he summoned all nine hundred of his iron
chariots and all the men with him, from
Harosheth-hagoyim to the River
Kishon.
And
Deborah said unto
Barak, Up; for this is the day in which the LORD hath delivered
Sisera into thine hand: is not the LORD gone out before thee? So
Barak went down from mount
Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.
Then
Deborah said to
Barak, “Arise, for this is the day that the LORD has delivered
Sisera into your hand. Has not the LORD gone before you?” So
Barak came down from Mount
Tabor with ten thousand men following him.
And the LORD
discomfited Sisera, and all his
chariots, and all his host, with the edge of the sword before
Barak; so that
Sisera lighted down off his
chariot, and fled away on his feet.
And in front of him the LORD routed with the sword
Sisera, all his charioteers, and all his army.
Sisera abandoned his
chariot and fled on foot.
But
Barak pursued after the
chariots, and after the host, unto
Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the host of
Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword; and there was not a man left.
Then
Barak pursued the
chariots and army as far as
Harosheth-hagoyim, and the whole army of
Sisera fell by the sword; not a single man was left.
Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of
Heber the Kenite: for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of
Heber the Kenite.
Meanwhile,
Sisera had fled on foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of
Heber the Kenite, because there was peace between Jabin king of Hazor and the house of
Heber the Kenite.
And Jael went out to meet
Sisera, and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a
mantle.
Jael went out to
greet Sisera and said to him, “Come in, my lord. Come in with me. Do not be afraid.” So he entered her tent, and she covered him with a
blanket.
And he said unto her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink; for I am
thirsty. And she opened a
bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him.
Sisera said to her, “Please give me a little water to drink, for I am
thirsty.” So she opened a container of milk, gave him a drink, and covered him again.
Then Jael
Heber’s wife took a
nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and
smote the
nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast
asleep and
weary. So he died.
But as he lay sleeping from
exhaustion,
Heber’s wife Jael took a tent
peg,
grabbed a hammer, and went silently to
Sisera. She drove the
peg through his temple and into the ground, and he died.
And, behold, as
Barak pursued
Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will
shew thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he came into her tent, behold,
Sisera lay dead, and the
nail was in his temples.
When
Barak arrived in pursuit of
Sisera, Jael went out to
greet him and said to him, “Come, and I will show you the man you are seeking.” So he went in with her, and there lay
Sisera dead, with a tent
peg through his temple.
They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera.
From the heavens the stars fought; from their courses they fought against Sisera.
She put her hand to the
nail, and her right hand to the workmen’s hammer; and with the hammer she
smote Sisera, she
smote off his head, when she had pierced and
stricken through his temples.
She reached for the tent
peg, her right hand for the
workman’s hammer. She struck
Sisera and
crushed his skull; she
shattered and pierced his temple.
And her father said, I
verily thought that thou hadst utterly
hated her; therefore I gave her to thy companion: is not her younger
sister fairer than she? take her, I pray thee, instead of her.
“I was sure that you thoroughly
hated her,” said her father, “so I gave her to one of the men who accompanied you. Is not her younger
sister more beautiful than she? Please take her instead.”
And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law.
“Look,” said

And when they
forgat the LORD their God, he sold them into the hand of
Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.
But they
forgot the LORD their God, and He sold them into the hand of
Sisera the commander of the army of Hazor, and into the hands of the Philistines and the king of Moab, who fought against them.
And David and all the house of Israel played before the LORD on all manner of instruments made of
fir wood, even on harps, and on
psalteries, and on
timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals.
David and all the house of Israel were
celebrating before the LORD with all kinds of wood instruments, harps, stringed instruments, tambourines,
sistrums, and cymbals.
And it came to pass after this, that
Absalom the son of David had a fair
sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.
After some time, David’s son Amnon fell in love with Tamar, the beautiful
sister of David’s son
Absalom.
And Amnon was so
vexed, that he fell sick for his
sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do any thing to her.
Amnon was sick with
frustration over his
sister Tamar, for she was a virgin, and it seemed
implausible for him to do anything to her.
And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king’s son,
lean from day to day?
wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother
Absalom’s
sister.
so he asked Amnon, “Why are you, the son of the king, so depressed morning after morning? Won’t you tell me?” Amnon replied, “I am in love with Tamar, my brother
Absalom’s
sister.”
And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make
thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my
sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.
Jonadab told him, “Lie down on your bed and pretend you are ill. When your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘Please let my sister Tamar come and give me something to eat. Let her prepare it in my sight so I may watch her and eat it from her hand.’”
So Amnon lay down, and made himself sick: and when the king was come to see him, Amnon said unto the king, I pray thee, let Tamar my sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat at her hand.
So Amnon lay down and
feigned illness. When the king came to see him, Amnon said, “Please let my
sister Tamar come and make a couple of cakes in my sight, so that I may eat from her hand.”
And when she had brought them unto him to eat, he took hold of her, and said unto her, Come lie with me, my sister.
And when she had brought them to him to eat, he took hold of her and said, “Come lie with me, my sister!”
And
Absalom her brother said unto her, Hath Amnon thy brother been with thee? but hold now thy peace, my
sister: he is thy brother; regard not this thing. So Tamar remained
desolate in her brother
Absalom’s house.
Her brother
Absalom said to her, “Has your brother Amnon been with you? Be quiet for now, my
sister. He is your brother. Do not take this thing to heart.” So Tamar lived as a
desolate woman in the house of her brother
Absalom.
And
Absalom spake unto his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: for
Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his
sister Tamar.
And
Absalom never said a word to Amnon, either good or bad, because he
hated Amnon for disgracing his
sister Tamar.
And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king’s sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of
Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his
sister Tamar.
But Jonadab, the son of David’s brother Shimeah, spoke up: “My lord must not think they have killed all the sons of the king, for only Amnon is dead. In fact,
Absalom has
planned this since the day Amnon
violated his
sister Tamar.

sister of his own wife, the
sister of Tahpenes the queen.

sister of Queen Tahpenes, his own wife.
And the
sister of Tahpenes bare him Genubath his son, whom Tahpenes
weaned in Pharaoh’s house: and Genubath was in Pharaoh’s household among the sons of Pharaoh.

sister of

hid him from
Athaliah, so that she
slew him not.
But Jehoshabeath daughter of King Jehoram took
Joash son of
Ahaziah and
stole him away from among the sons of the king who were being murdered, and she put him and his
nurse in a
bedroom. Because Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram and the wife of Jehoiada the priest, was
Ahaziah’s
sister, she
hid Joash from
Athaliah so that she could not kill him.

Do unto them as unto the Midianites; as to
Sisera, as to Jabin, at the
brook of Kison:
Do to them as You did to
Midian, as to
Sisera and Jabin at the River
Kishon,
Say unto wisdom, Thou art my
sister; and call understanding thy
kinswoman:
Say to wisdom, “You are my
sister,” and call understanding your
kinsman,
Thou hast
ravished my heart, my
sister, my
spouse; thou hast
ravished my heart with one of thine eyes, with one chain of thy neck.
You have captured my heart, my
sister, my
bride; you have
stolen my heart with one
glance of your eyes, with one
jewel of your neck.
How fair is thy love, my
sister, my
spouse! how much better is thy love than wine! and the smell of thine ointments than all spices!
How delightful is your love, my
sister, my
bride! Your love is much better than wine, and the
fragrance of your
perfume than all spices.

sister, my

My
sister, my
bride, you are a garden locked up, a spring enclosed, a fountain sealed.
I am come into my garden, my
sister, my
spouse: I have gathered my
myrrh with my
spice; I have eaten my
honeycomb with my honey; I have
drunk my wine with my milk: eat, O friends; drink,
yea, drink abundantly, O beloved.
