And
Abram passed through the land unto the place of
Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the
Canaanite was then in the land.
Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the Oak of Moreh at
Shechem. And at that time the
Canaanites were in the land.
And, behold, seven other
kine came up after them out of the river, ill favoured and leanfleshed; and stood by the other
kine upon the
brink of the river.
After them, seven other cows, sickly and thin, came up from the Nile and stood beside the well-fed cows on the bank of the river.
And the ill favoured and leanfleshed
kine did eat up the seven well favoured and fat
kine. So Pharaoh
awoke.
And the cows that were
sickly and thin
devoured the seven
sleek, well-fed cows. Then Pharaoh
woke up,
And, behold, seven other
kine came up after them, poor and very ill favoured and leanfleshed, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness:
After them, seven other cows—
sickly,
ugly, and thin—came up. I have never seen such
ugly cows in all the land of Egypt!
And it came to pass after these things, that one told Joseph, Behold, thy father is
sick: and he took with him his two sons,
Manasseh and Ephraim.
Some time later Joseph was told, “Your father is ill.” So he set out with his two sons,
Manasseh and Ephraim.
And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall
bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take
sickness away from the midst of thee.
So you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will
bless your bread and your water. And I will take away
sickness from among you.
And of her that is sick of her flowers, and of him that hath an issue, of the man, and of the woman, and of him that lieth with her that is unclean.
of a woman in her
menstrual period, of any male or female who has a discharge, and of a man who lies with an unclean woman.’”
And if a man shall lie with a woman having her sickness, and shall uncover her nakedness; he hath discovered her fountain, and she hath uncovered the fountain of her blood: and both of them shall be cut off from among their people.
If a man lies with a
menstruating woman and has sexual relations with her, he has exposed the source of her flow, and she has uncovered the source of her blood. Both of them must be cut off from among their people.
And the LORD will take away from thee all
sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that
hate thee.
And the LORD will remove from you all
sickness. He will not lay upon you any of the terrible diseases you knew in Egypt, but He will
inflict them on all who
hate you.
Seven weeks shalt thou number unto thee: begin to number the seven weeks from such time as thou beginnest to put the
sickle to the corn.
You are to count off seven weeks from the time you first put the
sickle to the standing grain.
When thou comest into the standing corn of thy neighbour, then thou mayest
pluck the ears with thine hand; but thou shalt not move a
sickle unto thy neighbour’s standing corn.
Then the LORD will make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and
sore sicknesses, and of long continuance.
He will bring upon you and your descendants extraordinary disasters, severe and lasting plagues, and terrible and
chronic sicknesses.
Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will the LORD bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed.
The LORD will also bring upon you every sickness and plague not recorded in this Book of the Law, until you are destroyed.
So that the generation to come of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the LORD hath laid upon it;
Then the generation to come—your sons who follow you and the foreigner who comes from a distant land—will see the plagues of the land and the sicknesses the LORD has inflicted on it.
And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was
vexed unto death;

pleaded until he was
sick to death,
But all the Israelites went down to the Philistines, to
sharpen every man his share, and his
coulter, and his
axe, and his
mattock.
Instead, all the Israelites would go down to the Philistines to
sharpen their plowshares, mattocks, axes, and
sickles.

agone I fell
sick.

And Amnon was so
vexed, that he fell
sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do any thing to her.
Amnon was
sick with
frustration over his sister Tamar, for she was a virgin, and it seemed
implausible for him to do anything to her.
And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make
thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.
Jonadab told him, “Lie down on your bed and pretend you are ill. When your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘Please let my sister Tamar come and give me something to eat. Let her prepare it in my sight so I may watch her and eat it from her hand.’”
So Amnon lay down, and made himself sick: and when the king was come to see him, Amnon said unto the king, I pray thee, let Tamar my sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat at her hand.
So Amnon lay down and
feigned illness. When the king came to see him, Amnon said, “Please let my sister Tamar come and make a couple of cakes in my sight, so that I may eat from her hand.”

Ahijah, Behold, the wife of
Jeroboam cometh to ask a thing of thee for her son; for he is
sick: thus and thus shalt thou say unto her: for it shall be, when she cometh in, that she shall
feign herself to be another woman.
But the LORD had said to
Ahijah, “Behold, the wife of
Jeroboam is coming to ask you about her son, for he is ill. You are to say such and such to her, because when she arrives, she will be
disguised.”
And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the

Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see
Joram the son of

Jezreel, because he was
sick.
So King
Joram returned to

chariot of Israel, and the

wept over him, saying, “My father, my father, the
chariots and
horsemen of Israel!”

mortally ill. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz came to him and said, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Put your house in order, for you are about to die; you will not recover.’”
At that time Berodach-baladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present unto
Hezekiah: for he had heard that

At that time Merodach-baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon sent letters and a gift to
Hezekiah, for he had heard about
Hezekiah’s illness.
When famine or plague comes upon the land, or
blight or
mildew or locusts or grasshoppers, or when their enemies
besiege them in their cities, whatever plague or
sickness may come,
And thou shalt have great
sickness by disease of thy
bowels, until thy
bowels fall out by reason of the
sickness day by day.
And day after day you
yourself will suffer from a severe illness, a disease of your
bowels, until it causes your
bowels to come out.’”
And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his
bowels fell out by reason of his
sickness: so he died of
sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.
This continued day after day until two full years had passed. Finally, his intestines came out because of his disease, and he died in severe pain. And his people did not make a fire in his honor as they had done for his fathers.
And he returned to be
healed in
Jezreel because of the wounds which were given him at

In those days
Hezekiah was
sick to the death, and prayed unto the LORD: and he spake unto him, and he gave him a sign.
In those days
Hezekiah became
mortally ill. So he prayed to the LORD, who spoke to him and gave him a sign.
Wherefore the king said unto me, Why is thy countenance
sad, seeing thou art not
sick? this is nothing else but sorrow of heart. Then I was very
sore afraid,
so the king said to me, “Why is your face
sad, though you are not ill? This could only be
sadness of the heart.” I was
overwhelmed with fear
But as for me, when they were
sick, my clothing was
sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own
bosom.
Yet when they were ill, I put on
sackcloth; I humbled myself with fasting, but my prayers returned unanswered.
The LORD will
sustain him on his bed of illness and restore him from his bed of
sickness.
Hope
deferred maketh the heart
sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.
Hope
deferred makes the heart
sick, but desire fulfilled is a tree of life.
The spirit of a man will
sustain his
infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?
The spirit of a man can
endure his
sickness, but who can
survive a broken spirit?
They have
stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not
sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I
awake? I will seek it yet again.
“They struck me, but I feel no pain! They beat me, but I did not know it! When can I
wake up to search for another drink?”
All his days also he eateth in darkness, and he hath much sorrow and wrath with his sickness.
Moreover, all his days he eats in darkness, with much sorrow, sickness, and anger.
Stay me with flagons, comfort me with apples: for I am sick of love.
I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if ye find my beloved, that ye tell him, that I am sick of love.
O daughters of Jerusalem, I
adjure you, if you find my beloved, tell him I am
sick with love.
Why should ye be
stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is
sick, and the whole heart
faint.
Why do you want more beatings? Why do you keep rebelling? Your head has a massive wound, and your whole heart is
afflicted.
And shall
consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when a standardbearer fainteth.
The
splendor of its forests and orchards, both soul and body, it will completely destroy, as a
sickness consumes a man.
And they shall be broken in the purposes thereof, all that make sluices and ponds for fish.
The workers in cloth will be
dejected, and all the
hired workers will be
sick at heart.
And the inhabitant shall not say, I am
sick: the people that dwell therein shall be
forgiven their iniquity.
And no resident of
Zion will say, “I am
sick.” The people who dwell there will be
forgiven of iniquity.
In those days was

The writing of
Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been
sick, and was recovered of his
sickness:
This is a writing by
Hezekiah king of Judah after his illness and recovery:
Mine age is departed, and is removed from me as a
shepherd’s tent: I have cut off like a
weaver my life: he will cut me off with pining
sickness: from day even to night
wilt thou make an end of me.
My dwelling has been
picked up and removed from me like a
shepherd’s tent. I have rolled up my life like a
weaver; He cuts me off from the
loom; from day until night You make an end of me.
At that time Merodach-baladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to
Hezekiah: for he had heard that he had been
sick, and was recovered.
At that time Merodach-baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon sent letters and a gift to
Hezekiah, for he had heard about
Hezekiah’s illness and recovery.
As a fountain casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her wickedness: violence and
spoil is heard in her; before me continually is grief and wounds.
As a well gushes its water, so she pours out her evil. Violence and destruction resound in her; sickness and wounds are ever before Me.
Woe is me for my
hurt! my wound is
grievous: but I said, Truly this is a grief, and I must bear it.
Woe to me because of my brokenness; my wound is
grievous! But I said, “This is truly my
sickness, and I must bear it.”
If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are
sick with famine!
yea, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they know not.
If I go out to the country, I see those slain by the sword; if I enter the city, I see those
ravaged by famine! For both prophet and priest travel to a land they do not know.’”
Cut off the
sower from Babylon, and him that handleth the
sickle in the time of harvest: for fear of the
oppressing sword they shall turn every one to his people, and they shall
flee every one to his own land.
Cut off the
sower from Babylon, and the one who wields the
sickle at harvest time. In the face of the
oppressor’s sword, each will turn to his own people, each will
flee to his own land.
The diseased have ye not strengthened, neither have ye
healed that which was
sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them.
You have not strengthened the weak,
healed the
sick, bound up the injured, brought back the strays, or searched for the lost. Instead, you have ruled them with violence and cruelty.
I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will
strengthen that which was
sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment.
I will seek the lost, bring back the strays, bind up the broken, and
strengthen the weak; but the
sleek and strong I will destroy. I will
shepherd them with justice.’
And I Daniel
fainted, and was
sick certain days; afterward I rose up, and did the king’s business; and I was
astonished at the vision, but none understood it.
I, Daniel, was exhausted and lay ill for days. Then I got up and went about the king’s business. I was confounded by the vision; it was beyond understanding.
When Ephraim saw his
sickness, and Judah saw his wound, then went Ephraim to the Assyrian, and sent to king Jareb: yet could he not
heal you, nor cure you of your wound.
When Ephraim saw his
sickness and Judah his wound, then Ephraim turned to Assyria and sent to the great king. But he cannot cure you or
heal your wound.
In the day of our king the princes have made him sick with bottles of wine; he stretched out his hand with scorners.
The princes are inflamed with wine on the day of our king; so he joins hands with those who
mock him.
Put ye in the
sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great.
Swing the
sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come,
trample the grapes, for the winepress is full; the wine vats overflow because their wickedness is great.
Therefore also will I make thee
sick in
smiting thee, in making thee
desolate because of thy sins.
Therefore I am striking you severely, to ruin you because of your sins.
And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the
lame and
sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.
When you offer blind animals for sacrifice, is it not wrong? And when you present the
lame and
sick ones, is it not wrong? Try offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you or show you favor?” asks the LORD of Hosts.
Ye said also, Behold, what a
weariness is it! and ye have
snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye brought that which was
torn, and the
lame, and the
sick; thus ye brought an offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD.
You also say: ‘Oh, what a
nuisance!’ And you turn up your nose at it,” says the LORD of Hosts. “You bring offerings that are
stolen,
lame, or
sick! Should I accept these from your hands?” asks the LORD.
And Jesus went about all
Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and
healing all manner of
sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
Jesus went throughout
Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and
healing every disease and
sickness among the people.
And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all
sick people that were taken with
divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the
palsy; and he
healed them.
News about Him spread all over Syria, and people brought to Him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering acute pain, the
demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the
paralyzed—and He
healed them.
And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother laid, and sick of a fever.
When Jesus arrived at Peter’s house, He saw Peter’s mother-in-law sick in bed with a fever.
When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and
healed all that were
sick:
When evening came, many who were
demon-possessed were brought to Jesus, and He drove out the spirits with a word and
healed all the
sick.
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our
infirmities, and bare our
sicknesses.
This was to
fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took on our
infirmities and carried our diseases.”
And, behold, they brought to him a man
sick of the
palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the
sick of the
palsy; Son, be of good
cheer; thy sins be
forgiven thee.
Just then some men brought to Him a
paralytic lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the
paralytic, “Take courage, son; your sins are
forgiven.”
But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to
forgive sins, (then saith he to the
sick of the
palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.
But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to
forgive sins...” Then He said to the
paralytic, “Get up,
pick up your mat, and go home.”
But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.
On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.
And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and
healing every
sickness and every disease among the people.
Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and
healing every disease and
sickness.
And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to
heal all manner of
sickness and all manner of disease.
And calling His twelve disciples to Him, Jesus gave them authority over unclean spirits, so that they could drive them out and
heal every disease and
sickness.
Heal the
sick,
cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
Heal the
sick, raise the dead,
cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.
And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with
compassion toward them, and he
healed their
sick.
And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;
And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the surrounding region. People brought all the sick to Him
Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you visited Me.’
Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
When did we see You sick or in prison and visit You?’
I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, I was naked and you did not
clothe Me, I was
sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’
Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an
hungred, or
athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or
sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
And they too will reply, ‘Lord, when did we see You
hungry or
thirsty or a stranger or naked or
sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’
But Simon’s wife’s mother lay
sick of a fever, and
anon they tell him of her.
Simon’s mother-in-law was
sick in bed with a fever, and they
promptly told Jesus about her.
And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.
That evening, after
sunset, people brought to Jesus all who were
sick and
demon-possessed,
And he
healed many that were
sick of
divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.
And He
healed many who were ill with various diseases and drove out many demons. But He would not allow the demons to speak, because they knew who He was.
And they come unto him, bringing one
sick of the
palsy, which was borne of four.
Then a
paralytic was brought to Him, carried by four men.
And when they could not come
nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the
sick of the
palsy lay.
Since they were unable to get to Jesus through the crowd, they uncovered the roof above Him, made an opening, and lowered the
paralytic on his mat.
When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the
sick of the
palsy, Son, thy sins be
forgiven thee.
Whether is it easier to say to the
sick of the
palsy, Thy sins be
forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
“Which is easier: to say to a
paralytic, ‘Your sins are
forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up,
pick up your mat, and walk’?
But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to
forgive sins, (he saith to the
sick of the
palsy,)
But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to
forgive sins...” He said to the
paralytic,
When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are
sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to
repentance.
On hearing this, Jesus told them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
And to have power to
heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:
and to have authority to drive out demons.
But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the
sickle, because the harvest is come.
And as soon as the grain is ripe, he swings the
sickle, because the harvest has come.”
And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few
sick folk, and
healed them.
So He could not perform any miracles there, except to lay His hands on a few of the
sick and
heal them.
And they cast out many devils, and
anointed with oil many that were
sick, and
healed them.
They also drove out many demons and
healed many of the
sick,
anointing them with oil.
And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.
and ran through that whole region, carrying the sick on mats to wherever they heard He was.
And
whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the
sick in the streets, and
besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.
And wherever He went—villages and towns and countrysides—they laid the
sick in the marketplaces and
begged Him just to let them touch the
fringe of His
cloak. And all who touched Him were
healed.
