And they returned, and came to En-mishpat, which is Kadesh, and
smote all the country of the
Amalekites, and also the
Amorites that dwelt in Hazezon-

Then they turned back to
invade En-mishpat (that is, Kadesh), and they conquered the whole territory of the
Amalekites, as well as the
Amorites who lived in Hazazon-
tamar.
And Abraham planted a
grove in Beer-
sheba, and called there on the name of the LORD, the
everlasting God.

Wherefore
didst thou
flee away secretly, and
steal away from me; and
didst not tell me, that I might have sent thee away with
mirth, and with songs, with
tabret, and with
harp?
Why did you run away secretly and
deceive me, without even telling me? I would have sent you away with joy and singing, with
tambourines and harps.
And Judah took a wife for Er his
firstborn, whose name was
Tamar.
Now Judah acquired a wife for Er, his
firstborn, and her name was
Tamar.
Then said Judah to
Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow at thy father’s house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest
peradventure he die also, as his brethren did. And
Tamar went and dwelt in her father’s house.
Then Judah said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, “Live as a widow in your father’s house until my son Shelah grows up.” For he thought, “He may die too, like his brothers.” So Tamar went to live in her father’s house.
And it was told
Tamar, saying, Behold thy father in law goeth up to Timnath to
shear his sheep.
When
Tamar was told, “Your father-in-law is going up to Timnah to
shear his sheep,”
And she arose, and went away, and laid by her
vail from her, and put on the garments of her
widowhood.
Then
Tamar got up and departed. And she removed her
veil and put on her widow’s garments again.
And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying,
Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the
harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by
whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.
About three months later, Judah was told, “Your daughter-in-law
Tamar has
prostituted herself, and now she is
pregnant.” “Bring her out!” Judah replied. “Let her be burned to death!”
When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said,
Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the
signet, and bracelets, and staff.
As she was being brought out,
Tamar sent a message to her father-in-law: “I am
pregnant by the man to whom these items belong.” And she added, “Please examine them. Whose seal and cord and staff are these?”
And it came to pass in the time of her

And

timbrels and with dances: and she was his only child; beside her he had neither son nor daughter.
And when
Jephthah returned home to
Mizpah, there was his daughter coming out to meet him with
tambourines and dancing! She was his only child; he had no son or daughter besides her.
And all the men of Israel rose up out of their place, and put themselves in
array at
Baal-
tamar: and the liers in wait of Israel came forth out of their places, even out of the meadows of Gibeah.
So all the men of Israel got up from their places and
arrayed themselves at
Baal-
tamar, and the Israelites in
ambush charged from their positions west of Gibeah.
And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which the LORD shall give thee of this young woman.
And may your house become like the house of
Perez, whom
Tamar bore to Judah, because of the offspring the LORD will give you by this young woman.”
After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a
psaltery, and a
tabret, and a pipe, and a
harp, before them; and they shall
prophesy:
After that you will come to Gibeah of God, where the Philistines have an outpost. As you approach the city, you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place, preceded by harps,
tambourines, flutes, and lyres, and they will be
prophesying.
And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the
Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick.
As the troops were returning home after David had killed the
Philistine, the women came out of all the cities of Israel to meet King Saul with singing and dancing, with joyful songs, and with
tambourines and other instruments.
When Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men that were with him, (now Saul abode in Gibeah under a tree in
Ramah, having his
spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing about him;)
Soon Saul learned that David and his men had been discovered. At that time Saul was in Gibeah, sitting under the
tamarisk tree on the hill at Gibeah, with his
spear in hand and all his servants standing around him.
And they took their bones, and buried them under a tree at
Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
Then they took their bones and buried them under the
tamarisk tree in
Jabesh, and they fasted seven days.
And David and all the house of Israel played before the LORD on all manner of instruments made of
fir wood, even on harps, and on
psalteries, and on
timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals.
David and all the house of Israel were
celebrating before the LORD with all kinds of wood instruments, harps, stringed instruments,
tambourines, sistrums, and cymbals.
And it came to pass after this, that
Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was
Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.
After some time, David’s son Amnon fell in love with
Tamar, the beautiful sister of David’s son
Absalom.
And Amnon was so
vexed, that he fell sick for his sister
Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do any thing to her.
Amnon was sick with
frustration over his sister
Tamar, for she was a virgin, and it seemed
implausible for him to do anything to her.
And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king’s son,
lean from day to day?
wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love
Tamar, my brother
Absalom’s sister.
so he asked Amnon, “Why are you, the son of the king, so depressed morning after morning? Won’t you tell me?” Amnon replied, “I am in love with
Tamar, my brother
Absalom’s sister.”
And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make
thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister
Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.
Jonadab told him, “Lie down on your bed and pretend you are ill. When your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘Please let my sister Tamar come and give me something to eat. Let her prepare it in my sight so I may watch her and eat it from her hand.’”
So Amnon lay down, and made himself sick: and when the king was come to see him, Amnon said unto the king, I pray thee, let Tamar my sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat at her hand.
So Amnon lay down and
feigned illness. When the king came to see him, Amnon said, “Please let my sister
Tamar come and make a couple of cakes in my sight, so that I may eat from her hand.”
Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, Go now to thy brother Amnon’s house, and dress him meat.
Then David sent word to Tamar at the palace: “Please go to the house of Amnon your brother and prepare a meal for him.”
So
Tamar went to her brother Amnon’s house; and he was laid down. And she took flour, and
kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and did
bake the cakes.
So
Tamar went to the house of her brother Amnon, who was lying down. She took some
dough,
kneaded it, made cakes in his sight, and
baked them.
And Amnon said unto Tamar, Bring the meat into the chamber, that I may eat of thine hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother.
Then Amnon said to
Tamar, “Bring the food into the
bedroom, so that I may eat it from your hand.”
Tamar took the cakes she had made and went to her brother Amnon’s
bedroom.
Then Amnon
hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred
wherewith he
hated her was greater than the love
wherewith he had loved her. And Amnon said unto her, Arise, be gone.
Then Amnon
hated Tamar with such intensity that his hatred was greater than the love he previously had. “Get up!” he said to her. “Be gone!”
And she had a garment of
divers colours upon her: for with such robes were the king’s daughters that were virgins
apparelled. Then his servant brought her out, and
bolted the door after her.
So Amnon’s
attendant threw her out and
bolted the door behind her. Now
Tamar was wearing a
robe of many colors, because this is what the king’s virgin daughters
wore.
And
Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent her garment of
divers colours that was on her, and laid her hand on her head, and went on crying.
And
Tamar put ashes on her head and
tore her
robe. And putting her hand on her head, she went away crying bitterly.
And
Absalom her brother said unto her, Hath Amnon thy brother been with thee? but hold now thy peace, my sister: he is thy brother; regard not this thing. So
Tamar remained
desolate in her brother
Absalom’s house.
Her brother
Absalom said to her, “Has your brother Amnon been with you? Be quiet for now, my sister. He is your brother. Do not take this thing to heart.” So
Tamar lived as a
desolate woman in the house of her brother
Absalom.
And
Absalom spake unto his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: for
Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister
Tamar.
And
Absalom never said a word to Amnon, either good or bad, because he
hated Amnon for disgracing his sister
Tamar.
And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king’s sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of
Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister
Tamar.
But Jonadab, the son of David’s brother Shimeah, spoke up: “My lord must not think they have killed all the sons of the king, for only Amnon is dead. In fact,
Absalom has
planned this since the day Amnon
violated his sister
Tamar.
And unto
Absalom there were born three sons, and one daughter, whose name was
Tamar: she was a woman of a fair countenance.
Three sons were born to
Absalom, and a daughter named
Tamar, who was a beautiful woman.
and Baalath, and
Tadmor in the wilderness, in the land,
Baalath, and Tamar in the Wilderness of Judah,
And Tamar his daughter in law bare him Pharez and Zerah. All the sons of Judah were five.
Tamar, Judah’s daughter-in-law, bore to him
Perez and Zerah. Judah had five sons in all.
These were all the sons of David, beside the sons of the concubines, and Tamar their sister.
These were all the sons of David, besides the sons by his concubines. And Tamar was their sister.
And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, and with singing, and with harps, and with
psalteries, and with
timbrels, and with cymbals, and with
trumpets.
David and all the Israelites were
celebrating before God with all their might, with songs and on harps and lyres, with
tambourines, cymbals, and
trumpets.
Then there came some that told
Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be Hazazon-
tamar, which is En-gedi.
Then some men came and told
Jehoshaphat, “A vast army is coming against you from
Edom, from beyond the Sea; they are already in Hazazon-
tamar” (that is, En-gedi).
The children of Barkos, the children of Sisera, the children of Tamah,
the descendants of Barkos, the descendants of Sisera, the descendants of Temah,
The singers went before, the players on instruments followed after; among them were the damsels playing with
timbrels.
The singers lead the way, the musicians follow after, among the maidens playing tambourines.
Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the
timbrel and
harp.
Let them praise His name with dancing, and make music to Him with
tambourine and
harp.
Praise him with the
timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.
And the
harp, and the
viol, the
tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hands.
At their feasts are the
lyre and
harp,
tambourines and flutes and wine. They disregard the actions of the LORD and fail to see the work of His hands.
The
mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that
rejoice endeth, the joy of the
harp ceaseth.
The joyful
tambourines have ceased; the noise of revelers has stopped; the joyful
harp is silent.
And in every place where the grounded staff shall pass, which the LORD shall lay upon him, it shall be with tabrets and harps: and in battles of
shaking will he fight with it.
And with every stroke of the rod of punishment that the LORD brings down on them, the
tambourines and lyres will sound as He battles with weapons
brandished.
Again I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: thou shalt again be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make
merry.
Again I will build you, and you will be rebuilt, O Virgin Israel. Again you will take up your tambourines and go out in joyful dancing.
Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the LORD’S house which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women
weeping for
Tammuz.
Then He brought me to the entrance of the north gate of the house of the LORD, and I saw women sitting there,
weeping for
Tammuz.
And the east side ye shall measure from
Hauran, and from Damascus, and from
Gilead, and from the land of Israel by Jordan, from the border unto the east sea. And this is the east side.
On the east side the border will run between
Hauran and Damascus, along the Jordan between
Gilead and the land of Israel, to the Eastern Sea and as far as
Tamar. This will be the eastern boundary.
And the south side southward, from
Tamar even to the waters of
strife in Kadesh, the river to the great sea. And this is the south side southward.
On the south side it will run from
Tamar to the waters of Meribath-kadesh, and along the
Brook of Egypt to the Great Sea. This will be the southern boundary.
And by the border of
Gad, at the south side southward, the border shall be even from
Tamar unto the waters of
strife in Kadesh, and to the river toward the great sea.
The southern border of
Gad will run from
Tamar to the waters of Meribath-kadesh, then along the
Brook of Egypt and out to the Great Sea.
Judah was the father of
Perez and Zerah by
Tamar,
Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram.
Because that he had been often bound with
fetters and chains, and the chains had been
plucked asunder by him, and the
fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man
tame him.
Though he was often bound with chains and
shackles, he had broken the chains and
shattered the
shackles. Now there was no one with the strength to
subdue him.
For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is
tamed, and hath been
tamed of mankind:
All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and creatures of the sea are being
tamed and have been
tamed by man,
But the tongue can no man
tame; it is an
unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
but no man can
tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
