Then will I go unto
the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy:
yea, upon
the harp will I praise
thee, O God my God.
Then I will go to
the altar of God, to God, my greatest joy. I will praise You with
the harp, O God, my God.
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
Why are you
downcast, O my soul? Why
the unease within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my
Savior and my God.
We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou
didst in
their days, in
the times of old.
We have heard with our ears, O God; our fathers have told us the work You did in their days, in the days of old.
How thou
didst drive out
the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst
them; how thou
didst afflict the people, and cast
them out.
With Your hand You drove out
the nations and planted our fathers
there; You
crushed the peoples and cast
them out.
For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.
For it was not by their sword that they took the land; their arm did not bring them victory. It was by Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your face, because You favored them.
Through
thee will we
push down our enemies: through thy name will we
tread them under that rise up against us.
Through You we
repel our foes; through Your name we
trample our enemies.
But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put
them to shame that
hated us.
For You save us from our enemies; You put those who
hate us to shame.
In God we
boast all
the day long, and praise thy name for ever.
Selah.
Thou makest us to turn back from
the enemy: and
they which
hate us
spoil for
themselves.
Thou hast given us like sheep appointed for meat; and hast scattered us among the heathen.
You have given us up as sheep to be
devoured; You have scattered us among
the nations.
Thou sellest thy people for
nought, and
dost not increase thy wealth by
their price.
You sell Your people for nothing; no profit do You gain from their sale.
Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a
scorn and a
derision to
them that are round about us.
You have made us a reproach to our neighbors, a
mockery and
derision to those around us.
Thou makest us a
byword among
the heathen, a
shaking of
the head among
the people.
My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,
All day long my disgrace is before me, and shame has covered my face,
For
the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of
the enemy and
avenger.
All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.
All this has come upon us, though we have not forgotten You or
betrayed Your covenant.
Though thou hast
sore broken us in
the place of
dragons, and covered us with
the shadow of death.
But You have
crushed us in
the lair of jackals; You have covered us with deepest darkness.
If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;
If we had forgotten the name of our God or spread out our hands to a foreign god,
Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.
would not God have discovered, since He knows the secrets of the heart?
Yea, for thy sake are we killed all
the day long; we are counted as sheep for
the slaughter.
Yet for Your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.
For our soul is bowed down to
the dust: our
belly cleaveth unto
the earth.
For our soul has sunk to
the dust; our bodies
cling to
the earth.
My heart is
inditing a good matter: I speak of
the things which I have made touching
the king: my tongue is
the pen of a ready writer.
My heart is
stirred by a noble
theme as I
recite my verses to
the king; my tongue is
the pen of a skillful writer.
Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.
You are
the most handsome of men; grace has
anointed your lips, since God has blessed you
forever.
And in thy majesty
ride prosperously because of truth and
meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach
thee terrible things.
Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king’s enemies; whereby the people fall under thee.
Your arrows
pierce the hearts of
the king’s foes;
the nations fall beneath your feet.
Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever:
the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right
sceptre.
Your throne, O God, endures
forever and ever, and justice is
the scepter of Your kingdom.
Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness:
therefore God, thy God, hath
anointed thee with
the oil of
gladness above thy fellows.
You have loved righteousness and
hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has
anointed you above your companions with
the oil of joy.
All thy garments smell of
myrrh, and
aloes, and
cassia, out of
the ivory palaces, whereby
they have made
thee glad.
Kings’ daughters were among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand
the queen in gold of
Ophir.
The daughters of kings are among your honored women;
the queen stands at your right hand, adorned with
the gold of
Ophir.
So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him.
and the king will desire your beauty; bow to him, for he is your lord.
And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour.
The Daughter of Tyre will come with a gift; men of wealth will seek your favor.
The king’s daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold.
All glorious is
the princess in her chamber; her
gown is
embroidered with gold.
She shall be brought unto
the king in
raiment of
needlework:
the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto
thee.
In colorful garments she is led to the king; her virgin companions are brought before you.
With
gladness and
rejoicing shall
they be brought:
they shall enter into
the king’s palace.
They are led in with joy and
gladness;
they enter
the palace of
the king.
Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth.
Your sons will succeed your fathers; you will make them princes throughout the land.
I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever.
I will
commemorate your name through all generations;
therefore the nations will praise you
forever and ever.
Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Therefore we will not fear, though
the earth is transformed and
the mountains are
toppled into
the depths of
the seas,
Though
the waters
thereof roar and be troubled, though
the mountains
shake with
the swelling
thereof.
Selah.
There is a river,
the streams
whereof shall make
glad the city of God,
the holy place of
the tabernacles of
the most High.
There is a river whose streams delight the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.
God is within her; she will not be moved. God will help her when morning dawns.
The heathen
raged,
the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice,
the earth melted.
Nations
rage, kingdoms
crumble;
the earth melts when He lifts His voice.
The LORD of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.
Selah.
The LORD of Hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Selah Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth.
Come, see
the works of
the LORD, who brings
devastation upon
the earth.
He maketh wars to cease unto
the end of
the earth; he breaketh
the bow, and cutteth
the spear in
sunder; he burneth
the chariot in
the fire.
He makes wars to cease throughout
the earth; He breaks
the bow and
shatters the spear; He burns
the shields in
the fire.
Be still, and know that I am God: I will be
exalted among
the heathen, I will be
exalted in
the earth.
“Be still and know that I am God; I will be
exalted among
the nations, I will be
exalted over
the earth.”
The LORD of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.
Selah.
The LORD of Hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Selah O
clap your hands, all ye people;
shout unto God with
the voice of triumph.
Clap your hands, all you peoples;
shout unto God with a voice of triumph.
For the LORD most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth.
How
awesome is
the LORD Most High,
the great King over all
the earth!
He shall
subdue the people under us, and
the nations under our feet.
He subdues nations beneath us, and peoples under our feet.
He shall choose our inheritance for us,
the excellency of Jacob whom he loved.
Selah.
He chooses our inheritance for us,
the pride of Jacob, whom He loves.
Selah God is gone up with a
shout,
the LORD with
the sound of a
trumpet.
God has ascended amid shouts of joy, the LORD with the sound of the horn.
For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.
For God is King of all the earth; sing profound praises to Him.
God reigneth over
the heathen: God sitteth upon
the throne of his
holiness.
God reigns over the nations; God is seated on His holy throne.
The princes of
the people are gathered together, even
the people of
the God of Abraham: for
the shields of
the earth belong unto God: he is greatly
exalted.
The nobles of
the nations have assembled as
the people of
the God of Abraham; for
the shields of
the earth belong to God; He is highly
exalted.
Great is
the LORD, and greatly to be praised in
the city of our God, in
the mountain of his
holiness.
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, His holy mountain.
Beautiful for situation,
the joy of
the whole earth, is mount
Zion, on
the sides of
the north,
the city of
the great King.
Beautiful in
loftiness,
the joy of all
the earth, like
the peaks of Zaphon is Mount
Zion,
the city of
the great King.
For, lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together.
For behold, the kings assembled; they all advanced together.
They saw it, and so
they marvelled;
they were troubled, and hasted away.
They saw and were
astounded;
they fled in terror.
Fear took hold upon
them there, and pain, as of a woman in
travail.
Thou breakest
the ships of
Tarshish with an east wind.
As we have heard, so have we seen in
the city of
the LORD of hosts, in
the city of our God: God will establish it for ever.
Selah.
As we have heard, so we have seen in
the city of
the LORD of Hosts, in
the city of our God: God will establish her
forever.
Selah We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple.
Within Your temple, O God, we
contemplate Your loving devotion.
According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.
Your name, O God, like Your praise, reaches to the ends of the earth; Your right hand is full of righteousness.
Let mount
Zion rejoice, let
the daughters of Judah be
glad, because of thy judgments.
Mount
Zion is
glad,
the daughters of Judah
rejoice, on account of Your judgments.
Walk about
Zion, and go round about her: tell
the towers
thereof.
Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation following.
consider her ramparts, tour her citadels, that you may tell the next generation.
Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:
Hear this, all you peoples;
listen, all inhabitants of
the world,
My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and
the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.
My mouth will impart wisdom, and
the meditation of my heart will bring understanding.
I will
incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon
the harp.
Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?
Why should I fear in times of trouble, when wicked usurpers
surround me?
They that trust in
their wealth, and
boast themselves in
the multitude of
their riches;
They trust in
their wealth and
boast in
their great riches.
None of
them can by any means
redeem his brother, nor give to God a
ransom for him:
No man can possibly
redeem his brother or pay his
ransom to God.
(For
the redemption of
their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)
For
the redemption of his soul is costly, and never can payment suffice,
For he
seeth that wise men die, likewise
the fool and
the brutish person perish, and leave
their wealth to others.
For it is clear that wise men die, and
the foolish and
the senseless both perish and leave
their wealth to others.
Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.
Their graves are their eternal homes— their dwellings for endless generations— even though their lands were their namesakes.
Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
But a man,
despite his wealth, cannot
endure; he is like
the beasts that perish.
Like sheep
they are laid in
the grave; death shall feed on
them; and
the upright shall have dominion over
them in
the morning; and
their beauty shall
consume in
the grave from
their dwelling.
Like sheep
they are destined for
Sheol. Death will be
their shepherd.
The upright will rule
them in
the morning, and
their form will decay in
Sheol, far from
their lofty abode.
But God will
redeem my soul from
the power of
the grave: for he shall receive me.
Selah.
But God will
redeem my life from
Sheol, for He will surely take me to Himself.
Selah Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;
Do not be
amazed when a man grows rich, when
the splendor of his house increases.
Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise
thee, when thou doest well to
thyself.
Though in his lifetime he blesses his soul— and men praise you when you
prosper—
He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.
he will join the generation of his fathers, who will never see the light of day.
Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.
A man who has riches without understanding is like the beasts that perish.
The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof.
The Mighty One, God
the LORD, speaks and
summons the earth from where
the sun rises to where it sets.
Out of
Zion,
the perfection of beauty, God hath
shined.
From
Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth.
He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people.
He
summons the heavens above, and
the earth, that He may judge His people:
And
the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself.
Selah.
And
the heavens
proclaim His righteousness, for God Himself is Judge.
Selah Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will
testify against
thee: I am God, even thy God.
“Hear, O My people, and I will speak, O Israel, and I will
testify against you: I am God, your God.
I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually before me.
I do not
rebuke you for your sacrifices, and your burnt offerings are ever before Me.
For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.
for every beast of the forest is Mine— the cattle on a thousand hills.
I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.
I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are Mine.
If I were
hungry, I would not tell
thee: for
the world is mine, and
the fulness thereof.
If I were
hungry, I would not tell you, for
the world is Mine, and
the fullness
thereof.
Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?
Do I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?
Offer unto God
thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto
the most High:
Sacrifice a
thank offering to God, and
fulfill your vows to
the Most High.
And call upon me in
the day of trouble: I will deliver
thee, and thou shalt
glorify me.
Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor Me.”
But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?
To
the wicked, however, God says, “What right have you to
recite My statutes and to bear My covenant on your lips?
Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee.
For you
hate My instruction and cast My words behind you.
When thou sawest a
thief,
then thou consentedst with him, and hast been
partaker with adulterers.
When you see a
thief, you
befriend him, and throw in your lot with adulterers.
These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as
thyself: but I will reprove
thee, and set
them in order before thine eyes.
You have done
these things, and I kept silent; you thought I was just like you. But now I
rebuke you and
accuse you to your face.
Now consider this, ye that
forget God, lest I
tear you in pieces, and
there be none to deliver.
Now consider this, you who
forget God, lest I
tear you to pieces, with no one to
rescue you:
