And
Joab gave the sum of the number of the people unto David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and an hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah was four hundred
threescore and ten thousand men that drew sword.
And
Joab reported to David the total number of the troops. In all Israel
there were 1,100,000 men who drew the sword, including 470,000 in Judah.
And God was displeased with this thing;
therefore he
smote Israel.
This command was also evil in the sight of God; so He struck Israel.
Either three years’ famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of the LORD, even the
pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now
therefore advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me.
between three years of famine, three months of being swept away before your enemies and overtaken by their swords, or three days of the sword of the LORD—days of plague upon the land, with the angel of the LORD
ravaging every part of Israel.’ Now then, decide how I should reply to Him who sent me.”
So the LORD sent
pestilence upon Israel: and
there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.
So the LORD sent a plague upon Israel, and seventy thousand men of Israel fell dead.
Then David said to Ornan, Grant me the place of this threshingfloor, that I may build an altar therein unto the LORD: thou shalt grant it me for the full price: that the plague may be stayed from the people.
Then David said to Ornan, “Grant me the site of this
threshing floor, that I may build an altar to the LORD. Sell it to me for the full price, so that the plague upon the people may be
halted.”
And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called upon the LORD; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering.
And there he built an altar to the LORD and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. He called upon the LORD, who answered him with fire from heaven on the altar of burnt offering.
And the LORD commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the
sheath thereof.
Then the LORD spoke to the angel, who put his sword back into its
sheath.
At that time when David saw that the LORD had answered him in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.
At that time, when David saw that the LORD had answered him at the
threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, he offered sacrifices
there.
And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for the LORD must be exceeding
magnifical, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will
therefore now make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death.
And David said, “My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the LORD must be exceedingly magnificent—famous and glorious throughout all lands.
Therefore I must make preparations for it.” So David made
lavish preparations before his death.
Now, behold, in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the LORD an hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver; and of brass and iron without weight; for it is in abundance: timber also and stone have I prepared; and thou mayest add
thereto.
Now behold, I have taken great pains to provide for the house of the LORD—100,000 talents of gold, 1,000,000 talents of silver, and bronze and iron too great to be
weighed. I have also provided timber and stone, and you may add to them.
Moreover
there are workmen with thee in abundance, hewers and workers of stone and timber, and all manner of
cunning men for every manner of work.
You also have many workers: stonecutters, masons, carpenters, and men skilled in every kind of work—
Of the gold, the silver, and the brass, and the iron, there is no number. Arise therefore, and be doing, and the LORD be with thee.
in gold and silver, bronze and iron—
craftsmen beyond number. Now begin the work, and may the LORD be with you.”
Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the LORD.
Now set your heart and soul to seek the LORD your God. Get started building the sanctuary of the LORD God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD and the holy articles of God into the temple that will be built for the Name of the LORD.”
Moreover four thousand were
porters; and four thousand praised the LORD with the instruments which I made, said David, to praise
therewith.
4,000 are to be gatekeepers, and 4,000 are to praise the LORD with the instruments I have made for giving praise.”
And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons;
therefore they were in one
reckoning, according to their father’s house.
Jahath was the first and Zizah was the second; but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, so they were counted as one family and received a single
assignment.
And also unto the Levites; they shall no more carry the tabernacle, nor any vessels of it for the service thereof.
So now the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle or any of the articles for its service.”
But
Nadab and
Abihu died before their father, and had no children:
therefore Eleazar and
Ithamar executed the priest’s office.
And
there were more chief men found of the sons of
Eleazar than of the sons of
Ithamar; and thus were they divided. Among the sons of
Eleazar there were sixteen chief men of the house of their fathers, and eight among the sons of
Ithamar according to the house of their fathers.
Since more leaders were found among
Eleazar’s descendants than those of
Ithamar, they were divided accordingly.
There were sixteen heads of families from the descendants of
Eleazar and eight from the descendants of
Ithamar.
Thus were they divided by lot, one sort with another; for the governors of the sanctuary, and governors of the house of God, were of the sons of
Eleazar, and of the sons of
Ithamar.
Thus they were divided by lot, for
there were officers of the sanctuary and officers of God among both
Eleazar’s and
Ithamar’s descendants.
To Shuppim and Hosah the lot came forth westward, with the gate Shallecheth, by the
causeway of the going up, ward against ward.
The lots for the West Gate and the Shallecheth Gate on the ascending
highway fell to Shuppim and Hosah.
There were guards stationed at every watch.
Eastward were six Levites, northward four a day, southward four a day, and toward
Asuppim two and two.
Each day
there were six Levites on the east, four on the north, four on the south, and two pairs at the
storehouse.
At Parbar westward, four at the
causeway, and two at Parbar.
As for the court on the west,
there were four at the
highway and two at the court.
Among the Hebronites was Jerijah the chief, even among the Hebronites, according to the generations of his fathers. In the
fortieth year of the reign of David they were sought for, and
there were found among them mighty men of valour at Jazer of
Gilead.
As for the Hebronites, Jerijah was the chief of the Hebronites, according to the
genealogies of his ancestors. In the
fortieth year of David’s reign the records were searched, and strong, capable men were found among the Hebronites at Jazer in
Gilead.
And his brethren, men of valour, were two thousand and seven hundred chief fathers, whom king David made rulers over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of
Manasseh, for every matter pertaining to God, and affairs of the king.
Among Jerijah’s relatives
there were 2,700 capable men who were heads of families. King David appointed them over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of
Manasseh for every matter pertaining to God and to the affairs of the king.
Now the children of Israel after their number, to wit, the chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses, which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course were twenty and four thousand.
This is the list of the Israelites—the heads of families, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and their officers who served the king in every matter concerning the divisions on
rotating military duty each month throughout the year.
There were 24,000 men in each division:
Over the first course for the first month was Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
Jashobeam son of Zabdiel was in charge of the first division, which was assigned the first month. There were 24,000 men in his division.
And over the course of the second month was Dodai an Ahohite, and of his course was Mikloth also the ruler: in his course likewise were twenty and four thousand.
Dodai the Ahohite was in charge of the division for the second month, and Mikloth was the leader. There were 24,000 men in his division.
The third captain of the host for the third month was Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, a chief priest: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
The third army commander, as chief for the third month, was Benaiah son of Jehoiada the priest. There were 24,000 men in his division.
The fourth captain for the fourth month was
Asahel the brother of
Joab, and Zebadiah his son after him: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
The fourth, for the fourth month, was
Joab’s brother
Asahel, and his son Zebadiah was commander after him.
There were 24,000 men in his division.
The fifth captain for the fifth month was Shamhuth the Izrahite: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
The fifth, for the fifth month, was the commander Shamhuth the Izrahite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
The sixth captain for the sixth month was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
The sixth, for the sixth month, was Ira son of Ikkesh the Tekoite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
The seventh captain for the seventh month was Helez the Pelonite, of the children of Ephraim: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
The seventh, for the seventh month, was Helez the Pelonite, an Ephraimite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
The eighth captain for the eighth month was Sibbecai the Hushathite, of the Zarhites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
The eighth, for the eighth month, was Sibbecai the Hushathite, a Zerahite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
The ninth captain for the ninth month was Abiezer the Anetothite, of the Benjamites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
The ninth, for the ninth month, was Abiezer the Anathothite, a
Benjamite.
There were 24,000 men in his division.
The tenth captain for the tenth month was Maharai the Netophathite, of the Zarhites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
The tenth, for the tenth month, was Maharai the Netophathite, a Zerahite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
The
eleventh captain for the
eleventh month was Benaiah the Pirathonite, of the children of Ephraim: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
The
eleventh, for the
eleventh month, was Benaiah the Pirathonite, an Ephraimite.
There were 24,000 men in his division.
The
twelfth captain for the
twelfth month was Heldai the Netophathite, of Othniel: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
The
twelfth, for the
twelfth month, was Heldai the Netophathite, from the family of Othniel.
There were 24,000 men in his division.
Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but he finished not, because
there fell wrath for it against Israel; neither was the number put in the account of the chronicles of king David.
Joab son of Zeruiah began to count the men but did not finish. For because of this census wrath came upon Israel, and the number was not entered in the Book of the Chronicles of King David.
Now
therefore in the sight of all Israel the congregation of the LORD, and in the
audience of our God, keep and seek for all the commandments of the LORD your God: that ye may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance for your children after you for ever.
So now in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the LORD, and in the hearing of our God, keep and seek out all the commandments of the LORD your God, so that you may possess this good land and leave it as an inheritance to your descendants
forever.
Then David gave to Solomon his son the pattern of the
porch, and of the houses
thereof, and of the
treasuries thereof, and of the upper chambers
thereof, and of the inner parlours
thereof, and of the place of the mercy seat,
Then David gave his son Solomon the plans for the
portico of the temple, its buildings, storehouses, upper rooms, inner rooms, and the room for the mercy seat.
Even the weight for the candlesticks of gold, and for their lamps of gold, by weight for every
candlestick, and for the lamps
thereof: and for the candlesticks of silver by weight, both for the
candlestick, and also for the lamps
thereof, according to the use of every
candlestick.
the weight of the gold lampstands and their lamps, including the weight of each lampstand and its lamps; the weight of each silver lampstand and its lamps, according to the use of each lampstand;
And, behold, the courses of the priests and the Levites, even they shall be with thee for all the service of the house of God: and
there shall be with thee for all manner of
workmanship every willing skilful man, for any manner of service: also the princes and all the people will be wholly at thy commandment.
The divisions of the priests and Levites are ready for all the service of the house of God, and every willing man of every skill will be at your
disposal for the work. The officials and all the people are fully at your command.”
Now
therefore, our God, we
thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.
Now
therefore, our God, we give You
thanks, and we praise Your glorious name.
For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and
there is none
abiding.
For we are foreigners and strangers in Your presence, as were all our forefathers. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope.
So Solomon, and all the congregation with him, went to the high place that was at
Gibeon; for
there was the tabernacle of the congregation of God, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.
And Solomon and the whole assembly went to the high place at
Gibeon because it was the
location of God’s Tent of Meeting, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.
Moreover the
brasen altar, that Bezaleel the son of
Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the tabernacle of the LORD: and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.
But the bronze altar made by Bezalel son of
Uri, the son of Hur, was in
Gibeon before the tabernacle of the LORD. So Solomon and the assembly inquired of Him
there.
And Solomon went up thither to the
brasen altar before the LORD, which was at the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it.
Solomon offered sacrifices there before the LORD on the bronze altar in the Tent of Meeting, where he offered a thousand burnt offerings.
Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.
therefore wisdom and knowledge have been granted to you. And I will also give you riches and wealth and honor unlike anything given to the kings before you or after you.”
And Solomon sent to Huram the king of Tyre, saying, As thou
didst deal with David my father, and
didst send him cedars to build him an house to dwell
therein, even so deal with me.
Then Solomon sent word to
Hiram king of Tyre: “Do for me as you did for my father David when you sent him cedars to build himself a house to live in.
Send me now
therefore a man
cunning to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and
crimson, and blue, and that can skill to grave with the
cunning men that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father did provide.
Send me,
therefore, a
craftsman skilled in engraving to work with gold and silver, with bronze and iron, and with purple,
crimson, and blue yarn. He will work with my
craftsmen in Judah and Jerusalem, whom my father David provided.
Send me also
cedar trees,
fir trees, and
algum trees, out of
Lebanon: for I know that thy servants can skill to cut timber in
Lebanon; and, behold, my servants shall be with thy servants,
Send me also
cedar,
cypress, and
algum logs from
Lebanon, for I know that your servants have skill to cut timber
there. And indeed, my servants will work with yours
Now therefore the wheat, and the barley, the oil, and the wine, which my lord hath spoken of, let him send unto his servants:
Now let my lord send to his servants the wheat, barley, olive oil, and wine he promised.
And Solomon numbered all the strangers that were in the land of Israel, after the numbering
wherewith David his father had numbered them; and they were found an hundred and fifty thousand and three thousand and six hundred.
Solomon numbered all the foreign men in the land of Israel following the census his father David had conducted, and there were found to be 153,600 in all.
And the greater house he cieled with
fir tree, which he overlaid with fine gold, and set
thereon palm trees and chains.
He
paneled the main room with
cypress, which he overlaid with fine gold and decorated with palm trees and chains.
He overlaid also the house, the beams, the posts, and the walls thereof, and the doors thereof, with gold; and graved cherubims on the walls.
He overlaid its beams, thresholds, walls, and doors with gold, and he carved
cherubim on the walls.
And he made the most holy house, the length
whereof was according to the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and the breadth
thereof twenty cubits: and he overlaid it with fine gold, amounting to six hundred talents.
Then he made the Most Holy Place; its length corresponded to the width of the temple—twenty cubits long and twenty cubits wide. And he overlaid the inside with six hundred talents of fine gold.
And he made the
vail of blue, and purple, and
crimson, and fine linen, and wrought cherubims
thereon.
Moreover he made an altar of brass, twenty cubits the length thereof, and twenty cubits the breadth thereof, and ten cubits the height thereof.
He made a bronze altar twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and ten cubits high.
Also he made a
molten sea of ten cubits from
brim to
brim, round in compass, and five cubits the height
thereof; and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.
He also made the Sea of cast metal. It was circular in shape, measuring ten cubits from
rim to
rim, five cubits in height, and thirty cubits in circumference.
And the
snuffers, and the basons, and the spoons, and the censers, of pure gold: and the entry of the house, the inner doors
thereof for the most holy place, and the doors of the house of the temple, were of gold.
the
wick trimmers,
sprinkling bowls, ladles, and censers of purest gold; and the gold doors of the temple: the inner doors to the Most Holy Place as well as the doors of the main hall.
Also king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel that were assembled unto him before the ark, sacrificed sheep and oxen, which could not be told nor numbered for multitude.
There, before the ark, King Solomon and the whole congregation of Israel who had assembled with him sacrificed so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered.
For the cherubims spread forth their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubims covered the ark and the
staves thereof above.
For the
cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark and overshadowed the ark and its poles.
And they drew out the
staves of the ark, that the ends of the
staves were seen from the ark before the
oracle; but they were not seen without. And
there it is unto this day.
The poles of the ark extended far enough that their ends were visible from in front of the inner sanctuary, but not from outside the Holy Place; and they are there to this day.
There was nothing in the ark save the two tables which Moses put
therein at
Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt.
There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets that Moses had placed in it at
Horeb, where the LORD had made a covenant with the Israelites after they had come out of Egypt.
So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God.
so that the priests could not stand there to minister because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD filled the house of God.
And the king turned his face, and blessed the whole congregation of Israel: and all the congregation of Israel stood.
And as the whole assembly of Israel stood there, the king turned around and blessed them all
Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel:
‘Since the day I brought My people out of the land of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from any tribe of Israel in which to build a house so that My Name would be
there, nor have I chosen
anyone to be ruler over My people Israel.
But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.
But now I have chosen Jerusalem for My Name to be there, and I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.’
The LORD therefore hath performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built the house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
Now the LORD has fulfilled the word that He spoke. I have succeeded my father David, and I sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised. I have built the house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
And in it have I put the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, that he made with the children of Israel.
And there I have provided a place for the ark, which contains the covenant of the LORD that He made with the children of Israel.”
And said, O LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:
and said: “O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like You in heaven or on earth, keeping Your covenant of loving devotion with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts.
Now
therefore, O LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying,
There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take
heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.
Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk in My law as you have walked before Me.’
Have respect
therefore to the prayer of thy servant, and to his
supplication, O LORD my God, to
hearken unto the cry and the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee:
Yet regard the prayer and
plea of Your servant, O LORD my God, so that You may hear the cry and the prayer that Your servant is praying before You.
That thine eyes may be open upon this house day and night, upon the place
whereof thou hast said that thou wouldest put thy name
there; to
hearken unto the prayer which thy servant prayeth toward this place.
May Your eyes be open toward this temple day and night, toward the place where You said You would put Your Name, so that You may hear the prayer that Your servant prays toward this place.
Hearken therefore unto the supplications of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, which they shall make toward this place: hear thou from thy dwelling place, even from heaven; and when thou hearest,
forgive.
Hear the
plea of Your servant and of Your people Israel when they pray toward this place. May You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place. May You hear and
forgive.
When the heaven is shut up, and
there is no rain, because they have
sinned against thee; yet if they pray toward this place, and
confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou
dost afflict them;
When the
skies are shut and
there is no rain because Your people have
sinned against You, and they pray toward this place and
confess Your name, and they turn from their sins because You have
afflicted them,
When famine or plague comes upon the land, or
blight or
mildew or locusts or grasshoppers, or when their enemies
besiege them in their cities, whatever plague or sickness may come,
If they sin against thee, (for
there is no man which sinneth not,) and thou be
angry with them, and deliver them over before their enemies, and they carry them away
captives unto a land far off or near;
When they sin against You—for
there is no one who does not sin—and You become
angry with them and deliver them to an enemy who takes them as
captives to a land far or near,
Now
therefore arise, O LORD God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints
rejoice in goodness.
Now
therefore, arise, O LORD God, and enter Your resting place, You and the ark of Your might. May Your priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and may Your godly ones
rejoice in goodness.
Moreover Solomon
hallowed the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for
there he offered burnt offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, because the
brasen altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt offerings, and the meat offerings, and the fat.
Then Solomon consecrated the middle of the
courtyard in front of the house of the LORD, and
there he offered the burnt offerings and the fat of the peace offerings, since the bronze altar he had made could not contain all these offerings.
If I shut up heaven that
there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to
devour the land, or if I send
pestilence among my people;
If I close the sky so
there is no rain, or if I command the
locust to
devour the land, or if I send a plague among My people,
For now have I chosen and
sanctified this house, that my name may be
there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be
there perpetually.
For I have now chosen and consecrated this temple so that My Name may be
there forever. My eyes and My heart will be
there for all time.
Then will I
stablish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I have covenanted with David thy father, saying,
There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel.
then I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted with your father David when I said, ‘You will never fail to have a man to rule over Israel.’
And it shall be answered, Because they
forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them:
therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them.
And others will answer, ‘Because they have
forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them—because of this, He has brought all this
disaster upon them.’”
That the cities which Huram had restored to Solomon, Solomon built them, and caused the children of Israel to dwell there.
Solomon rebuilt the cities
Hiram had given him and settled Israelites
there.
And Huram sent him by the hands of his servants ships, and servants that had knowledge of the sea; and they went with the servants of Solomon to
Ophir, and took thence four hundred and fifty talents of gold, and brought them to king Solomon.
So
Hiram sent him ships captained by his servants, along with crews of experienced sailors. They went with Solomon’s servants to
Ophir and acquired from
there 450 talents of gold, which they delivered to King Solomon.
And Solomon told her all her questions: and
there was nothing
hid from Solomon which he told her not.
And Solomon answered all her questions; nothing was too difficult for him to explain.
And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their
apparel; his cupbearers also, and their
apparel; and his
ascent by which he went up into the house of the LORD;
there was no more spirit in her.
the food at his table, the seating of his servants, the service and
attire of his attendants and cupbearers, and the burnt offerings he presented at the house of the LORD, it took her breath away.
Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee to set thee on his throne, to be king for the LORD thy God: because thy God loved Israel, to establish them for ever, therefore made he thee king over them, to do judgment and justice.
Blessed be the LORD your God, who has delighted in you to set you on His throne to be king for the LORD your God. Because your God loved Israel enough to establish them
forever, He has made you king over them to carry out justice and righteousness.”
And she gave the king an hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices great abundance, and precious stones: neither was
there any such
spice as the queen of
Sheba gave king Solomon.
Then she gave the king 120 talents of gold, a great quantity of spices, and precious stones.
There had never been such spices as those the queen of
Sheba gave to King Solomon.
And the king made of the
algum trees terraces to the house of the LORD, and to the king’s palace, and harps and
psalteries for singers: and
there were none such seen before in the land of Judah.
The king made the
algum wood into steps for the house of the LORD and for the king’s palace, and into lyres and harps for the singers. Never before had anything like them been seen in the land of Judah.)
And
there were six steps to the throne, with a
footstool of gold, which were fastened to the throne, and stays on each side of the sitting place, and two lions standing by the stays:
The throne had six steps, and a
footstool of gold was attached to it.
There were armrests on both sides of the seat, with a lion standing beside each armrest.
And twelve lions stood there on the one side and on the other upon the six steps. There was not the like made in any kingdom.
Twelve lions stood on the six steps, one at either end of each step. Nothing like this had ever been made for any kingdom.
And all the drinking vessels of king Solomon were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of
Lebanon were of pure gold: none were of silver; it was not any thing accounted of in the days of Solomon.
All King Solomon’s drinking cups were gold, and all the utensils of the House of the Forest of
Lebanon were pure gold.
There was no silver, because it was accounted as nothing in the days of Solomon.
Then
Rehoboam went to
Shechem, for all Israel had gone
there to make him king.
Thy father made our yoke
grievous: now
therefore ease thou somewhat the
grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.
“Your father put a heavy yoke on us. But now you should
lighten the burden of your father’s service and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you.”
And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add
thereto: my father
chastised you with whips, but I will
chastise you with scorpions.
and spoke to them as the young men had
advised, saying, “Whereas my father made your yoke heavy, I will add to your yoke. Whereas my father
scourged you with whips, I will
scourge you with scorpions.”
Then came Shemaiah the prophet to
Rehoboam, and to the princes of Judah, that were gathered together to Jerusalem because of
Shishak, and said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Ye have
forsaken me, and
therefore have I also left you in the hand of
Shishak.
Then Shemaiah the prophet came to
Rehoboam and the leaders of Judah who had gathered at Jerusalem because of
Shishak, and he said to them, “This is what the LORD says: ‘You have
forsaken Me;
therefore, I have
forsaken you into the hand of
Shishak.’”
And when the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves;
therefore I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some
deliverance; and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of
Shishak.
When the LORD saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, “They have humbled themselves; I will not destroy them, but will soon grant them
deliverance. My wrath will not be poured out on Jerusalem through
Shishak.
So king
Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for
Rehoboam was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name
there. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess.
Thus King
Rehoboam established himself in Jerusalem. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the LORD had chosen from all the tribes of Israel in which to put His Name. His mother’s name was Naamah the
Ammonite.
