halves of the
carcasses.
That which was
torn of beasts I brought not unto thee; I bare the loss of it; of my hand
didst thou require it, whether
stolen by day, or
stolen by night.
I did not bring you anything
torn by wild beasts; I bore the loss myself. And you demanded payment from me for what was
stolen by day or night.

torn to pieces!”

morter of the house; and he shall carry them forth out of the city into an unclean place.

And
Joash said unto all that stood against him, Will ye
plead for
Baal? will ye save him? he that will
plead for him, let him be put to death whilst it is yet morning: if he be a god, let him
plead for himself, because one hath cast down his altar.
But
Joash said to all who stood against him, “Are you
contending for
Baal? Are you trying to save him?
Whoever pleads his case will be put to death by morning! If
Baal is a god, let him
contend for himself with the one who has
torn down his altar.”

shouted, “A sword for the LORD and for
Gideon!”

neighbor David.
Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through
therewith; lest these
uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and
abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was
sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
Then Saul said to his
armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run it through me, or these
uncircumcised men will come and run me through and
torture me!” But his
armor-bearer was
terrified and refused to do it. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.

disobedient unto the word of the LORD: therefore the LORD hath delivered him unto the lion, which hath
torn him, and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake unto him.
When the prophet who had brought him back from his journey heard this, he said, “It is the man of God who disobeyed the command of the LORD. Therefore the LORD has delivered him to the lion, and it has
mauled him and killed him, according to the word that the LORD had spoken to him.”

And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes;

earthquake:

earthquake, but the LORD was not in the
earthquake.

tore his clothes and asked, “Am I God, killing and giving life, that this man expects me to cure a
leper? Surely you can see that he is seeking a quarrel with me!”
And it was so, when

cried, Treason, Treason.
And she looked out and saw the king standing by the
pillar, according to the custom. The officers and trumpeters were beside the king, and all the people of the land were
rejoicing and blowing
trumpets. Then
Athaliah tore her clothes and
screamed, “Treason! Treason!”
And all the people of the land went into the house of
Baal, and
brake it down; his altars and his images
brake they in pieces thoroughly, and
slew Mattan the priest of
Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the LORD.
So all the people of the land went to the temple of
Baal and
tore it down. They
smashed the altars and idols to pieces, and they killed Mattan the priest of
Baal in front of the altars. And Jehoiada the priest posted guards for the house of the LORD.
For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made
Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and

And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes.

tore his clothes
Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled
thyself before the LORD, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a
desolation and a
curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and
wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the LORD.
because your heart was tender and you humbled
yourself before the LORD when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its people, that they would become a
desolation and a
curse, and because you have
torn your clothes and
wept before Me, I have heard you,’ declares the LORD.
And he
brake down the houses of the sodomites, that were by the house of the LORD, where the women
wove hangings for the
grove.

tore down the quarters of the male
shrine prostitutes that were in the house of the LORD, where the women had
woven tapestries for Asherah.
And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and
defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beer-
sheba, and
brake down the high places of the gates that were in the entering in of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man’s left hand at the gate of the city.
Then
Josiah brought all the priests from the cities of Judah and

Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through
therewith; lest these
uncircumcised come and
abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was
sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
Then Saul said to his
armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run it through me, or these
uncircumcised men will come and
torture me!” But his
armor-bearer was
terrified and refused to do it. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.
And she looked, and, behold, the king stood at his
pillar at the entering in, and the princes and the
trumpets by the king: and all the people of the land
rejoiced, and sounded with
trumpets, also the singers with instruments of musick, and such as taught to sing praise. Then
Athaliah rent her clothes, and said, Treason, Treason.
And she looked out and saw the king standing by his
pillar at the entrance. The officers and trumpeters were beside the king, and all the people of the land were
rejoicing and blowing
trumpets, while the singers with musical instruments were leading the praises. Then
Athaliah tore her clothes and
screamed, “Treason, treason!”
Then all the people went to the house of
Baal, and
brake it down, and
brake his altars and his images in pieces, and
slew Mattan the priest of
Baal before the altars.
So all the people went to the temple of
Baal and
tore it down. They
smashed the altars and idols to pieces and killed Mattan the priest of
Baal in front of the altars.
And he went forth and
warred against the Philistines, and
brake down the wall of
Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of
Ashdod, and built cities about
Ashdod, and among the Philistines.
Uzziah went out to
wage war against the Philistines, and he
tore down the walls of
Gath, Jabneh, and
Ashdod. Then he built cities near
Ashdod and among the Philistines.
Now when all this was finished, all Israel that were present went out to the cities of Judah, and
brake the images in pieces, and cut down the groves, and threw down the high places and the altars out of all Judah and Benjamin, in Ephraim also and
Manasseh, until they had utterly destroyed them all. Then all the children of Israel returned, every man to his possession, into their own cities.
When all this had ended, the Israelites in attendance went out to the cities of Judah and broke up the sacred pillars,
chopped down the Asherah poles, and
tore down the high places and altars throughout Judah and Benjamin, as well as in Ephraim and
Manasseh, until they had utterly destroyed them all. Then all the Israelites returned to their cities, each to his own property.
For he built again the high places which
Hezekiah his father had broken down, and he reared up altars for
Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.
For he rebuilt the high places that his father
Hezekiah had
torn down, and he raised up altars for the Baals and made Asherah poles. And he worshiped and served all the host of heaven.
And they
brake down the altars of
Baalim in his presence; and the images, that were on high above them, he cut down; and the groves, and the carved images, and the
molten images, he
brake in pieces, and made dust of them, and
strowed it upon the graves of them that had sacrificed unto them.
Then in his presence the altars of the Baals were
torn down, and he cut to pieces the incense altars that were above them. He
shattered the Asherah poles, the carved idols, and the cast images,
crushed them to dust, and scattered them over the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.
And when he had broken down the altars and the groves, and had beaten the
graven images into powder, and cut down all the idols throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.
He
tore down the altars and Asherah poles,
crushed the idols to powder, and cut to pieces all the incense altars throughout the land of Israel. Then he returned to Jerusalem.
And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the law, that he rent his clothes.
When the king heard the words of the Law, he
tore his clothes
Because thine heart was tender, and thou
didst humble
thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst
thyself before me, and
didst rend thy clothes, and
weep before me; I have even heard thee also, saith the LORD.
because your heart was tender and you humbled
yourself before God when you heard His words against this place and against its people, and because you have humbled
yourself before Me and you have
torn your clothes and
wept before Me, I have heard you,’ declares the LORD.
Also I have made a decree, that
whosoever shall alter this word, let timber be pulled down from his house, and being set up, let him be
hanged thereon; and let his house be made a
dunghill for this.
I also decree that if any man interferes with this directive, a beam is to be
torn from his house and raised up, and he is to be impaled on it. And his own house shall be made a pile of
rubble for this
offense.
And when I heard this thing, I rent my garment and my
mantle, and
plucked off the hair of my head and of my
beard, and sat down
astonied.
And at the evening sacrifice I arose up from my
heaviness; and having rent my garment and my
mantle, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto the LORD my God.
At the evening offering, I got up from my
humiliation with my
tunic and
cloak torn, and I fell on my knees, spread out my hands to the LORD my God,
When
Mordecai perceived all that was done,
Mordecai rent his clothes, and put on
sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midst of the city, and
cried with a loud and a bitter cry;
When
Mordecai learned of all that had happened, he
tore his clothes, put on
sackcloth and ashes, and went out into the middle of the city,
wailing loudly and bitterly.
Then Job arose, and rent his
mantle, and
shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,
Then Job stood up,
tore his
robe, and
shaved his head. He fell to the ground and worshiped,
And when they lifted up their eyes
afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and
wept; and they rent every one his
mantle, and
sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven.
When they lifted up their eyes from
afar, they could barely recognize Job. They began to
weep aloud, and each man
tore his
robe and threw dust in the air over his head.
The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man.
as water wears away the stones and torrents wash away the soil, so You destroy a man’s hope.
He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.
His anger has
torn me and opposed me; He gnashes His teeth at me. My
adversary pierces me with His eyes.
His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors.
He is
torn from the shelter of his tent and is marched off to the king of terrors.
How long will ye
vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?
Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder
blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.
then may my arm fall from my shoulder and be
torn from its
socket.
The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.
Thou hast made the earth to
tremble; thou hast broken it:
heal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh.
Behold, he
smote the rock, that the waters
gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?
When He struck the rock, water
gushed out and
torrents raged. But can He also give bread or supply His people with meat?”
Then the waters had
overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:
Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the
snare of the fowlers: the
snare is broken, and we are escaped.
We have escaped like a bird from the
snare of the fowler; the net is
torn, and we have
slipped away.
For there they that carried us away
captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us
mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of
Zion.
for there our captors requested a song; our
tormentors demanded songs of joy: “Sing us a song of
Zion.”
By the blessing of the upright the city is
exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
By the blessing of the upright a city is built up, but by the mouth of the wicked it is
torn down.
Therefore is the anger of the LORD
kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath
smitten them: and the hills did
tremble, and their carcases were
torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
Therefore the anger of the LORD burns against His people; His hand is raised against them to strike them down. The mountains
quake, and the corpses lay like refuse in the streets.
Despite all this, His anger is not turned away; His hand is still upraised.
And it shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard
bondage wherein thou
wast made to serve,
On the day that the LORD gives you rest from your pain and
torment, and from the hard labor into which you were forced,
And ye have numbered the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses have ye broken down to
fortify the wall.
You counted the houses of Jerusalem and
tore them down to
strengthen the wall.
And his breath, as an overflowing stream, shall reach to the midst of the neck, to
sift the nations with the
sieve of vanity: and there shall be a
bridle in the jaws of the people, causing them to
err.
His breath is like a
rushing torrent that rises to the neck. He comes to
sift the nations in a
sieve of destruction; He bridles the jaws of the peoples to lead them
astray.
For
Tophet is ordained of old;
yea, for the king it is prepared; he hath made it deep and large: the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of
brimstone,
doth kindle it.
For Topheth has long been prepared; it has been made ready for the king. Its funeral
pyre is deep and wide, with
plenty of fire and wood. The breath of the LORD, like a
torrent of burning sulfur, sets it
ablaze.
