scraped and replastered,
And he shall break down the house, the stones of it, and the timber thereof, and all the

Baal’s altar
torn down, with the Asherah pole cut down beside it and the second bull offered up on the newly built altar.

plead for

But
Joash said to all who stood against him, “Are you

torn down his altar.”

disobedient unto the word of the LORD: therefore the LORD hath delivered him unto the lion, which hath
torn him, and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake unto him.

Elijah said to all the people, “Come near to me.” So all the people approached him, and he repaired the altar of the LORD that had been
torn down.
And he said, I have been very
jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have
forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
“I have been very
zealous for the LORD, the God of Hosts,” he replied, “but the Israelites have
forsaken Your covenant,
torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I am the only one left, and they are seeking my life as well.”
And he said, I have been very
jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have

“I have been very
zealous for the LORD, the God of Hosts,” he replied, “but the Israelites have
forsaken Your covenant,
torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I am the only one left, and they are seeking my life as well.”
And it was so, when
Elisha the man of God had heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.

Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had
torn his clothes, he sent a message to the king: “Why have you
torn your clothes? Please let the man come to me, and he will know that there is a prophet in Israel.”
For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made
Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and
Jeroboam drave Israel from following the LORD, and made them sin a great sin.
When the LORD had
torn Israel away from the house of David, they made
Jeroboam son of Nebat king, and
Jeroboam led Israel away from following the LORD and caused them to commit a great sin.
Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the
scribe, and Joah the son of
Asaph the recorder, to
Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of
Rab-shakeh.
Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled
thyself before the LORD, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a
desolation and a
curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and
wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the LORD.
because your heart was tender and you humbled
yourself before the LORD when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its people, that they would become a
desolation and a
curse, and because you have
torn your clothes and
wept before Me, I have heard you,’ declares the LORD.
For he built again the high places which
Hezekiah his father had broken down, and he reared up altars for
Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.
For he rebuilt the high places that his father
Hezekiah had
torn down, and he raised up altars for the Baals and made Asherah poles. And he worshiped and served all the host of heaven.
And they
brake down the altars of
Baalim in his presence; and the images, that were on high above them, he cut down; and the groves, and the carved images, and the
molten images, he
brake in pieces, and made dust of them, and
strowed it upon the graves of them that had sacrificed unto them.
Then in his presence the altars of the Baals were
torn down, and he cut to pieces the incense altars that were above them. He
shattered the Asherah poles, the carved idols, and the cast images,
crushed them to dust, and scattered them over the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.
Because thine heart was tender, and thou
didst humble
thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst
thyself before me, and
didst rend thy clothes, and
weep before me; I have even heard thee also, saith the LORD.
because your heart was tender and you humbled
yourself before God when you heard His words against this place and against its people, and because you have humbled
yourself before Me and you have
torn your clothes and
wept before Me, I have heard you,’ declares the LORD.
Also I have made a decree, that
whosoever shall alter this word, let timber be pulled down from his house, and being set up, let him be
hanged thereon; and let his house be made a
dunghill for this.
I also decree that if any man interferes with this directive, a beam is to be
torn from his house and raised up, and he is to be impaled on it. And his own house shall be made a pile of
rubble for this
offense.
And at the evening sacrifice I arose up from my
heaviness; and having rent my garment and my
mantle, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto the LORD my God.

cloak torn, and I fell on my knees, spread out my hands to the LORD my God,
He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.

torn me and opposed me; He gnashes His teeth at me. My
adversary pierces me with His eyes.

blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.

torn from its
socket.
Thou hast made the earth to
tremble; thou hast broken it:
heal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh.
Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the
snare of the fowlers: the
snare is broken, and we are escaped.
We have escaped like a bird from the
snare of the fowler; the net is
torn, and we have
slipped away.
By the blessing of the upright the city is
exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
By the blessing of the upright a city is built up, but by the mouth of the wicked it is torn down.
Therefore is the anger of the LORD
kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath
smitten them: and the hills did
tremble, and their carcases were
torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
Therefore the anger of the LORD burns against His people; His hand is raised against them to strike them down. The mountains
quake, and the corpses lay like refuse in the streets.
Despite all this, His anger is not turned away; His hand is still upraised.
Then came Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the
scribe, and Joah, the son of
Asaph, the recorder, to
Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of
Rabshakeh.
I
beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger.
I looked, and the fruitful land was a desert. All its cities were torn down before the LORD, before His fierce anger.
I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and
burst the bonds.
I will go to the powerful and speak to them. Surely they know the way of the LORD, the justice of their God.” But they too, with one
accord, had broken the yoke and
torn off the chains.
Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall
slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall
spoil them, a
leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be
torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.
Therefore a lion from the forest will strike them down, a wolf from the desert will
ravage them. A
leopard will lie in wait near their cities, and
everyone who ventures out will be
torn to pieces. For their
rebellious acts are many, and their unfaithful deeds are numerous.
For a voice of
wailing is heard out of
Zion, How are we
spoiled! we are greatly confounded, because we have
forsaken the land, because our dwellings have cast us out.
For the sound of
wailing is heard from
Zion: ‘How
devastated we are! How great is our shame! For we have abandoned the land because our dwellings have been
torn down.’”
At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to
pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;
At any time I might
announce that a nation or kingdom will be uprooted,
torn down, and destroyed.
For thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are thrown down by the mounts, and by the sword;
For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says about the houses of this city and the palaces of the kings of Judah that have been
torn down for
defense against the siege ramps and the sword:
That there came certain from
Shechem, from
Shiloh, and from Samaria, even
fourscore men, having their beards
shaven, and their clothes rent, and having cut themselves, with offerings and incense in their hand, to bring them to the house of the LORD.
eighty men who had
shaved off their beards,
torn their garments, and cut themselves came from
Shechem,
Shiloh, and Samaria, carrying grain offerings and
frankincense for the house of the LORD.
Shout against her round about: she hath given her hand: her foundations are fallen, her walls are thrown down: for it is the
vengeance of the LORD: take
vengeance upon her; as she hath done, do unto her.
Raise a war cry against her on every side! She has thrown up her hands in surrender; her towers have fallen; her walls are
torn down. Since this is the
vengeance of the LORD, take out your
vengeance upon her; as she has done, do the same to her.
Then said I,
Ah Lord GOD! behold, my soul hath not been
polluted: for from my youth up even till now have I not eaten of that which dieth of itself, or is
torn in pieces; neither came there
abominable flesh into my mouth.
“
Ah, Lord GOD,” I said, “I have never
defiled myself. From my youth until now I have not eaten anything found dead or
mauled by wild beasts. No unclean meat has ever entered my mouth.”

Ethiopia, when the slain shall fall in Egypt, and they shall take away her multitude, and her foundations shall be broken down.

anguish in
Cush when the slain fall in Egypt, its wealth is taken away, and its foundations are
torn down.

The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings: I
beheld till the wings thereof were
plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man’s heart was given to it.
The first beast was like a lion, and it had the wings of an eagle. I watched until its wings were torn off and it was lifted up from the ground and made to stand on two feet like a man, and given the mind of a man.
Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath
torn, and he will
heal us; he hath
smitten, and he will bind us up.
Come, let us return to the LORD. For He has
torn us to pieces, but He will
heal us; He has wounded us, but He will bind up our wounds.
Ye said also, Behold, what a
weariness is it! and ye have
snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye brought that which was
torn, and the
lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD.
You also say: ‘Oh, what a
nuisance!’ And you turn up your nose at it,” says the LORD of Hosts. “You bring offerings that are
stolen,
lame, or sick! Should I accept these from your hands?” asks the LORD.
And, behold, the
veil of the temple was rent in
twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did
quake, and the rocks rent;
At that moment the
veil of the temple was
torn in two from top to bottom. The earth
quaked and the rocks were split.

torn him, and
cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.
At this, the unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions and came out with a loud
shriek.

veil of the temple was rent in
twain from the top to the bottom.
And the
veil of the temple was
torn in two from top to bottom.
And the sun was
darkened, and the
veil of the temple was rent in the midst.
The sun was
darkened, and the
veil of the temple was
torn down the middle.
Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, and hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.
So Simon Peter went
aboard and
dragged the net
ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many, the net was not
torn.
And it came to pass, that after we were
gotten from them, and had
launched, we came with a straight course unto Coos, and the day following unto
Rhodes, and from thence unto Patara:
After we had
torn ourselves away from them, we sailed directly to Cos, and the next day on to
Rhodes, and from there to Patara.
Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and
digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.
“Lord, they have killed Your prophets and torn down Your altars. I am the only one left, and they are seeking my life as well”?
For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a
transgressor.
If I rebuild what I have already
torn down, I prove myself to be a
lawbreaker.
Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have
plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me.
What then has become of your blessing? For I can
testify that, if it were possible, you would have
torn out your eyes and given them to me.
For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
For He Himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has torn down the dividing wall of hostility
For I am in a strait
betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:
I am torn between the two. I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better indeed.
But we, brethren, being taken from you for a short time in presence, not in heart, endeavoured the more abundantly to see your face with great desire.
Brothers, although we were torn away from you for a short time (in person, not in heart), our desire to see you face to face was even more intense.

mourning: and instead of precious ointments, she covered her head with ashes and dung, and she humbled her body greatly, and all the places of her joy she filled with her
torn hair.
Extol not
thyself in the counsel of thine own heart; that thy soul be not
torn in pieces as a bull
straying alone.
