And
Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for
nought? tell me, what shall thy
wages be?
Laban said to him, “Just because you are my relative, should you work for nothing? Tell me what your
wages should be.”
And he said,
Appoint me thy
wages, and I will give it.
And he added, “Name your wages, and I will pay them.”
I will pass through all thy flock to day, removing from thence all the
speckled and
spotted cattle, and all the brown cattle among the sheep, and the
spotted and
speckled among the goats: and of such shall be my
hire.
Let me go through all your flocks
today and remove from them every
speckled or
spotted sheep, every dark-colored lamb, and every
spotted or
speckled goat. These will be my
wages.
So shall my righteousness answer for me in time to come, when it shall come for my
hire before thy face: every one that is not
speckled and
spotted among the goats, and brown among the sheep, that shall be counted
stolen with me.
So my
honesty will
testify for me when you come to check on my
wages in the future. If I have any goats that are not
speckled or
spotted, or any lambs that are not dark-colored, they will be considered
stolen.”
And your father hath
deceived me, and changed my
wages ten times; but God suffered him not to
hurt me.
And although he has
cheated me and changed my
wages ten times, God has not allowed him to
harm me.
If he said, ‘The
speckled will be your
wages,’ then the whole flock bore
speckled offspring. If he said, ‘The
streaked will be your
wages,’ then the whole flock bore
streaked offspring.
Thus have I been twenty years in thy house; I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy cattle: and thou hast changed my wages ten times.
Thus for twenty years I have served in your household—fourteen years for your two daughters and six years for your flocks—and you have changed my wages ten times!
Now thou art commanded, this do ye; take you wagons out of the land of Egypt for your little ones, and for your wives, and bring your father, and come.
You are also directed to tell them: ‘Take wagons from the land of Egypt for your young children and your wives, and bring your father and come back.
And the children of Israel did so: and Joseph gave them wagons, according to the commandment of Pharaoh, and gave them provision for the way.
So the sons of Israel did as they were told. Joseph gave them
wagons as Pharaoh had
instructed, and he also gave them provisions for their journey.
And they told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said unto them: and when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived:
However, when they relayed all that Joseph had told them, and when he saw the wagons that Joseph had sent to carry him back, the spirit of their father Jacob was revived.
And Jacob rose up from Beer-
sheba: and the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, and their little ones, and their wives, in the
wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.
Then Jacob departed from
Beersheba, and the sons of Israel took their father Jacob in the
wagons Pharaoh had sent to carry him, along with their children and wives.
And Pharaoh’s daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and
nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy
wages. And the woman took the child, and
nursed it.
Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child and
nurse him for me, and I will pay your
wages.” So the woman took the boy and
nursed him.
Thou shalt not
defraud thy neighbour, neither
rob him: the
wages of him that is
hired shall not
abide with thee all night until the morning.
And he shall
reckon with him that bought him from the year that he was sold to him unto the year of jubile: and the price of his sale shall be according unto the number of years, according to the time of an
hired servant shall it be with him.
He and his purchaser will then count the time from the year he sold himself up to the Year of
Jubilee. The price of his sale will be determined by the number of years, based on the daily
wages of a
hired hand.
And they brought their offering before the LORD, six covered
wagons, and twelve oxen; a
wagon for two of the princes, and for each one an ox: and they brought them before the tabernacle.
They brought as their offering before the LORD six covered carts and twelve oxen—an ox from each leader and a
cart from every two leaders—and presented them before the tabernacle.
And Moses took the wagons and the oxen, and gave them unto the Levites.
So Moses took the carts and oxen and gave them to the Levites.
Two wagons and four oxen he gave unto the sons of Gershon, according to their service:
He gave the Gershonites two carts and four oxen, as their service required,
And four
wagons and eight oxen he gave unto the sons of Merari, according unto their service, under the hand of
Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.
and he gave the Merarites four carts and eight oxen, as their service required, all under the direction of
Ithamar son of Aaron the priest.
And they
warred against the Midianites, as the LORD commanded Moses; and they
slew all the males.
Then they
waged war against
Midian, as the LORD had commanded Moses, and they killed every male.
It shall not seem hard unto thee, when thou sendest him away free from thee; for he hath been worth a double
hired servant to thee, in serving thee six years: and the LORD thy God shall
bless thee in all that thou doest.
Do not regard it as a
hardship to set your servant free, because his six years of service were worth twice the
wages of a
hired hand. And the LORD your God will
bless you in all you do.
And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt
besiege it:
But if they refuse to make peace with you and
wage war against you, lay siege to that city.
Only the trees which thou knowest that they be not trees for meat, thou shalt destroy and cut them down; and thou shalt build bulwarks against the city that maketh war with thee, until it be subdued.
But you may destroy the trees that you know do not produce fruit. Use them to build siege works against the city that is
waging war against you, until it falls.
Thou shalt not bring the
hire of a
whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the LORD thy God for any
vow: for even both these are
abomination unto the LORD thy God.
You must not bring the
wages of a
prostitute, whether female or male, into the house of the LORD your God to
fulfill any
vow, because both are
detestable to the LORD your God.
At his day thou shalt give him his
hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee.
You are to pay his
wages each day before
sunset, because he is poor and depends on them. Otherwise he may cry out to the LORD against you, and you will be guilty of sin.
That they gathered themselves together, to fight with Joshua and with Israel, with one
accord.
they came together to
wage war against Joshua and Israel.
Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.
Joshua
waged war against all these kings for a long period of time.
Wherefore I have not
sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to war against me: the LORD the Judge be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of
Ammon.
I have not
sinned against you, but you have done me wrong by
waging war against me. May the LORD, the Judge, decide
today between the Israelites and the
Ammonites.”
Moreover the Philistines had yet war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines: and David waxed
faint.
Once again the Philistines
waged war against Israel, and David and his servants went down and fought against the Philistines; but David became exhausted.
Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.
“As you are well aware, due to the wars
waged on all sides against my father David, he could not build a house for the Name of the LORD his God until the LORD had put his enemies under his feet.
Now therefore command thou that they
hew me
cedar trees out of
Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants: and unto thee will I give
hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt
appoint: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that can skill to
hew timber like unto the Sidonians.
Now therefore, order that cedars of
Lebanon be cut down for me. My servants will be with your servants, and I will pay your servants whatever
wages you set, for you know that there are none among us as skilled in
logging as the Sidonians.”
And the rest of the acts of
Jeroboam, how he
warred, and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.
As for the rest of the acts of
Jeroboam, how he
waged war and how he reigned, they are indeed written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.
And Ben-
hadad the king of Syria gathered all his host together: and there were thirty and two kings with him, and horses, and
chariots: and he went up and besieged Samaria, and
warred against it.
Now Ben-
hadad king of
Aram assembled his entire army. Accompanied by thirty-two kings with their horses and
chariots, he marched up, besieged Samaria, and
waged war against it.
Now the rest of the acts of
Jehoshaphat, and his might that he shewed, and how he
warred, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
As for the rest of the acts of
Jehoshaphat, along with the might he exercised and how he
waged war, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with
Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
As for the rest of the acts of Jehoash, along with his accomplishments, his might, and how he
waged war against
Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
Now the rest of the acts of
Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he
warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and
Hamath, which belonged to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
As for the rest of the acts of
Jeroboam, along with all his accomplishments and might, and how he
waged war and recovered both Damascus and
Hamath for Israel from Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
Then Rezin king of Syria and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel came up to Jerusalem to war: and they besieged
Ahaz, but could not overcome him.
Then Rezin king of
Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel came up to
wage war against Jerusalem. They besieged
Ahaz but could not overcome him.
And in the days of Saul they made war with the Hagarites, who fell by their hand: and they dwelt in their tents throughout all the east land of
Gilead.
During the days of Saul they
waged war against the Hagrites, who were defeated at their hands, and they occupied the homes of the Hagrites throughout the region east of
Gilead.
And they made war with the Hagarites, with Jetur, and Nephish, and Nodab.
They
waged war against the Hagrites, as well as Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab.
But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars: thou shalt not build an house unto my name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight.
but this word of the LORD came to me: ‘You have shed much blood and
waged great wars. You are not to build a house for My Name because you have shed so much blood on the ground before Me.
And he went forth and
warred against the Philistines, and
brake down the wall of
Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of
Ashdod, and built cities about
Ashdod, and among the Philistines.
Uzziah went out to
wage war against the Philistines, and he
tore down the walls of
Gath, Jabneh, and
Ashdod. Then he built cities near
Ashdod and among the Philistines.
He fought also with the king of the
Ammonites, and prevailed against them. And the children of
Ammon gave him the same year an hundred talents of silver, and ten thousand measures of wheat, and ten thousand of barley. So much did the children of
Ammon pay unto him, both the second year, and the third.
Jotham
waged war against the king of the
Ammonites and defeated them, and that year they gave him a hundred talents of silver, ten thousand cors of wheat, and ten thousand cors of barley. They paid him the same in the second and third years.
As a servant earnestly desireth the shadow, and as an
hireling looketh for the reward of his work:
Like a slave he longs for shade; like a
hireling he waits for his
wages.
He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me: for there were many with me.
He redeems my soul in peace from the battle
waged against me, even though many
oppose me.
The wicked worketh a
deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.
The wicked man earns an empty
wage, but he who sows righteousness reaps a true reward.
Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.
For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.
Only with sound guidance should you
wage war, and victory lies in a multitude of counselors.
And it came to pass in the days of
Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it.
Now in the days that
Ahaz son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, was king of Judah, Rezin king of
Aram marched up to
wage war against Jerusalem. He was accompanied by Pekah son of Remaliah the king of Israel, but he could not overpower the city.
Yet her profits and wages will be set apart to the LORD; they will not be stored or saved, for her profit will go to those who live before the LORD, for abundant food and fine clothing.
Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that
contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of
nought.
You will seek them but will not find them. Those who
wage war against you will come to nothing.
And they shall bring all your brethren for an offering unto the LORD out of all nations upon horses, and in
chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, saith the LORD, as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the LORD.
And they will bring all your brothers from all the nations as a gift to the LORD on horses and
chariots and
wagons, on mules and camels, to My holy mountain Jerusalem,” says the LORD, “just as the Israelites bring an offering in a clean vessel to the house of the LORD.”
Enquire, I pray thee, of the LORD for us; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon maketh war against us; if so be that the LORD will deal with us according to all his
wondrous works, that he may go up from us.
“Please inquire of the LORD on our behalf, since
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon is
waging war against us. Perhaps the LORD will perform for us something like all His past wonders, so that
Nebuchadnezzar will withdraw from us.”
Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbour’s service without
wages, and giveth him not for his work;
“
Woe to him who builds his palace by unrighteousness, and his upper rooms without justice, who makes his countrymen serve without pay, and fails to pay their
wages,
Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that use their tongues, and say, He saith.
“
Yes,” declares the LORD, “I am against the prophets who
wag their own tongues and
proclaim, ‘The LORD declares it.’”
All that pass by
clap their hands at thee; they hiss and
wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, Is this the city that men call The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth?
All who pass by
clap their hands at you in
scorn. They hiss and
shake their heads at the Daughter of Jerusalem: “Is this the city that was called the perfection of beauty, the joy of all the earth?”
And they shall come against thee with
chariots,
wagons, and wheels, and with an assembly of people, which shall set against thee
buckler and shield and
helmet round about: and I will set judgment before them, and they shall judge thee according to their judgments.
They will come against you with a host of peoples, with weapons,
chariots, and
wagons. They will
array themselves against you on every side with
buckler and shield and
helmet. I will
delegate judgment to them, and they will
punish you according to their own standards.
By reason of the abundance of his horses their dust shall cover thee: thy walls shall
shake at the noise of the
horsemen, and of the wheels, and of the
chariots, when he shall enter into thy gates, as men enter into a city wherein is made a breach.
His multitude of horses will cover you in their dust. When he enters your gates as an army entering a breached city, your walls will
shake from the noise of cavalry,
wagons, and
chariots.
Son of man, Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon caused his army to serve a great service against Tyrus: every head was made
bald, and every shoulder was
peeled: yet had he no
wages, nor his army, for Tyrus, for the service that he had served against it:
“Son of man,
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon caused his army to labor
strenuously against Tyre. Every head was made
bald and every shoulder made raw. But he and his army received no
wages from Tyre for the labor they expended on it.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will give the land of Egypt unto Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall take her multitude, and take her
spoil, and take her prey; and it shall be the
wages for his army.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: I will give the land of Egypt to
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, who will carry off its wealth, seize its
spoil, and remove its
plunder. This will be the
wages for his army.
I
beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;
As I watched, this horn was
waging war against the saints and prevailing against them,
And I will destroy her vines and her fig trees,
whereof she hath said, These are my rewards that my lovers have given me: and I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall eat them.
I will destroy her vines and fig trees, which she thinks are the
wages paid by her lovers. So I will make them into a
thicket, and the beasts of the field will
devour them.
And all the
graven images thereof shall be beaten to pieces, and all the
hires thereof shall be burned with the fire, and all the idols thereof will I lay
desolate: for she gathered it of the
hire of an
harlot, and they shall return to the
hire of an
harlot.
All her carved images will be
smashed to pieces; all her
wages will be burned in the fire, and I will destroy all her idols. Since she collected the
wages of a
prostitute, they will be used again on a
prostitute.
This is the
rejoicing city that dwelt
carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a
desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and
wag his hand.
This carefree city that dwells securely, that thinks to herself: “I am it, and there is none besides me,” what a ruin she has become, a resting place for beasts.
Everyone who passes by her hisses and shakes his
fist.
Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye
clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth
wages earneth
wages to put it into a
bag with holes.
You have planted much but harvested little. You eat but never have enough. You drink but never have your fill. You put on clothes but never get warm. You
earn wages to put into a
bag pierced through.”
For before these days there was no
hire for man, nor any
hire for beast; neither was there any peace to him that went out or came in because of the
affliction: for I set all men every one against his neighbour.
For before those days neither man nor beast received
wages, nor was there safety from the enemy for
anyone who came or went, for I had turned every man against his
neighbor.
And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not,
forbear. So they
weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver.
Then I told them, “If it seems right to you, give me my
wages; but if not, keep them.” So they
weighed out my
wages, thirty pieces of silver.
And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that
oppress the
hireling in his
wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.
“Then I will draw near to you for judgment. And I will be a swift witness against sorcerers and adulterers and perjurers, against oppressors of the widowed and fatherless, and against those who
defraud laborers of their
wages and deny justice to the foreigner but do not fear Me,” says the LORD of Hosts.
So when even was come, the lord of the
vineyard saith unto his
steward, Call the labourers, and give them their
hire, beginning from the last unto the first.
When evening came, the owner of the
vineyard said to his
foreman, ‘Call the workers and pay them their
wages, starting with the last ones
hired and moving on to the first.’
And they that passed by railed on him,
wagging their heads, and saying,
Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,
And those who passed by
heaped abuse on Him,
shaking their heads and saying, “
Aha! You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,
And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither
accuse any falsely; and be content with your
wages.
Then some soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?” “Do not take money by force or false
accusation,” he said. “Be content with your
wages.”
And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his
hire. Go not from house to house.
Stay at the same house, eating and drinking whatever you are offered. For the worker is worthy of his wages. Do not move around from house to house.
And he that reapeth receiveth
wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may
rejoice together.
Already the
reaper draws his
wages and gathers a crop for eternal life, so that the
sower and the
reaper may
rejoice together.
Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
Now the wages of the worker are not credited as a gift, but as an obligation.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
For though we live in the flesh, we do not
wage war according to the flesh.
I
robbed other churches, taking
wages of them, to do you service.
I
robbed other churches by accepting their support in order to serve you.
For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not
muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.
For the Scripture says, “Do not
muzzle an ox while it is
treading out the grain,” and, “The worker is worthy of his
wages.”
Behold, the
hire of the labourers who have
reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by
fraud, crieth: and the
cries of them which have
reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of
sabaoth.
Look, the
wages you
withheld from the workmen who
mowed your fields are crying out against you. The
cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts.
And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to
riot in the
daytime. Spots they are and
blemishes,
sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;
Which have
forsaken the right way, and are gone
astray, following the way of
Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the
wages of unrighteousness;
They have left the straight way and
wandered off to follow the way of
Balaam son of Beor, who loved the
wages of wickedness.
Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
Therefore
repent! Otherwise I will come to you shortly and
wage war against them with the sword of My mouth.
And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
When the two witnesses have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the
Abyss will
wage war with them, and will overpower and kill them.
And they worshipped the
dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
They worshiped the
dragon who had given authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast, and who can
wage war against it?”
And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
Then the beast was permitted to
wage war against the saints and to
conquer them, and it was given authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation.
And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he
doth judge and make war.
Then I saw heaven standing open, and there before me was a white horse. And its rider is called Faithful and True. With righteousness He judges and wages war.
And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.
Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies assembled to
wage war against the One seated on the horse, and against His army.
And he commanded to give to all that kept the city pensions and wages.
And when she had sent them home to the owners, they paid her
wages, and gave her also besides a
kid.
But she replied upon me, It was given for a gift more than the
wages.
Howbeit I did not believe her, but
bade her render it to the owners: and I was
abashed at her. But she replied upon me, Where are thine
alms and thy righteous deeds? behold, thou and all thy works are known.
Let not the
wages of any man, which hath wrought for thee,
tarry with thee, but give him it out of hand: for if thou serve God, he will also repay thee: be
circumspect my son, in all things thou doest, and be wise in all thy conversation.
Then he gave him the
handwriting, and said unto him, Seek thee a man which may go with thee, whiles I yet live, and I will give him
wages: and go and receive the money.
But tell me, what
wages shall I give thee?
wilt thou a
drachm a day, and things necessary, as to mine own son?
Yea, moreover, if ye return safe, I will add something to thy
wages.
Then
Tobit called his son Tobias, and said unto him, My son, see that the man have his
wages, which went with thee, and thou must give him more.
As for the mysteries of God, they kn
ew them not: neither hoped they for the
wages of righteousness, nor
discerned a reward for
blameless souls.
At which time Simon rose up, and fought for his nation, and spent much of his own substance, and armed the
valiant men of his nation and gave them
wages,
