There
was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the
Hivites the inhabitants of
Gibeon: all other they took in battle.
No city made peace with the Israelites except the
Hivites living in
Gibeon; all others were taken in battle.
For it
was of the LORD to
harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favour, but that he might destroy them, as the LORD commanded Moses.
For it
was of the LORD to
harden their hearts to
engage Israel in battle, so that they would be set apart for destruction and would receive no mercy, being
annihilated as the LORD had commanded Moses.
There
was none of the Anakims left in the land of the children of Israel: only in
Gaza, in
Gath, and in
Ashdod, there remained.
Now Joshua
was old and
stricken in years; and the LORD said unto him, Thou art old and
stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.
Now Joshua was old and well along in years, and the LORD said to him, “You are old and well along in years, but very much of the land remains to be possessed.
And their coast
was from Aroer, that is on the bank of the river
Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river, and all the plain by Medeba;
The territory from Aroer on the
rim of the
Arnon Valley, along with the city in the middle of the valley, to the whole plateau beyond Medeba,
And the border of the children of
Reuben was Jordan, and the border thereof. This
was the inheritance of the children of
Reuben after their families, the cities and the villages thereof.
And the border of the Reubenites was the bank of the Jordan. This was the inheritance of the clans of the Reubenites, including the cities and villages.
And their coast
was Jazer, and all the cities of
Gilead, and half the land of the children of
Ammon, unto Aroer that is before Rabbah;
The territory of Jazer, all the cities of
Gilead, and half the land of the
Ammonites as far as Aroer, near Rabbah;
This is the inheritance of the children of
Gad after their families, the cities, and their villages.
This was the inheritance of the clans of the Gadites, including the cities and villages.
And Moses gave inheritance unto the half tribe of
Manasseh: and this
was the possession of the half tribe of the children of
Manasseh by their families.
This is what Moses had given to the clans of the half-tribe of
Manasseh, that is, to half the tribe of the descendants of
Manasseh:
And half
Gilead, and
Ashtaroth, and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of
Og in
Bashan, were pertaining unto the children of Machir the son of
Manasseh, even to the one half of the children of Machir by their families.
half of
Gilead; and
Ashtaroth and Edrei, the royal cities of
Og in
Bashan. All this
was for the clans of the descendants of Machir son of
Manasseh, that is, half of the descendants of Machir.
But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the LORD God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them.
To the tribe of Levi, however, Moses had given no inheritance. The LORD, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, just as He had promised them.
By lot was their inheritance, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes, and for the half tribe.
Their inheritance was assigned by lot for the nine and a half tribes, as the LORD had commanded through Moses.
For the children of Joseph were two tribes,
Manasseh and Ephraim: therefore they gave no part unto the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with their suburbs for their cattle and for their substance.
The descendants of Joseph became two tribes,
Manasseh and Ephraim. And no portion of the land
was given to the Levites, except for cities in which to live, along with pasturelands for their flocks and herds.
Forty years old
was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to
espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it
was in mine heart.
I
was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to
spy out the land, and I brought back to him an
honest report.
As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.
still as strong
today as I
was the day Moses sent me out. As my strength
was then, so it is now for war, for going out, and for coming in.
And the name of
Hebron before
was Kirjath-arba; which Arba
was a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.
(
Hebron used to be called Kiriath-arba, after Arba, the greatest man among the
Anakim.) Then the land had rest from war.
This then
was the lot of the tribe of the children of Judah by their families; even to the border of
Edom the wilderness of Zin southward
was the
uttermost part of the south coast.
Now the
allotment for the clans of the tribe of Judah extended to the border of
Edom, to the Wilderness of Zin at the extreme southern boundary:
And their south border was from the shore of the salt sea, from the bay that looketh southward:
Their southern border started at the bay on the southern
tip of the Salt Sea,
From thence it passed toward Azmon, and went out unto the river of Egypt; and the goings out of that coast were at the sea: this shall be your south coast.
It proceeded to Azmon, joined the
Brook of Egypt, and ended at the Sea. This
was their southern border.
And the east border
was the salt sea, even unto the end of Jordan. And their border in the north quarter
was from the bay of the sea at the
uttermost part of Jordan:
The eastern border was the Salt Sea as far as the mouth of the Jordan.
And the border was drawn from the top of the hill unto the fountain of the water of Nephtoah, and went out to the cities of mount Ephron; and the border was drawn to Baalah, which is Kirjath-jearim:
From the
hilltop the border curved to the spring of the Waters of Nephtoah, proceeded to the cities of Mount Ephron, and then bent around toward Baalah (that is, Kiriath-jearim).
And the border went out unto the side of
Ekron northward: and the border
was drawn to Shicron, and passed along to mount Baalah, and went out unto Jabneel; and the goings out of the border were at the sea.
Then it went out to the northern slope of
Ekron, curved toward Shikkeron, proceeded to Mount Baalah, went on to Jabneel, and ended at the Sea.
And the west border was to the great sea, and the coast thereof. This is the coast of the children of Judah round about according to their families.
And the western border was the coastline of the Great Sea. These are the boundaries around the clans of the descendants of Judah.
And unto
Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a part among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the LORD to Joshua, even the city of Arba the father of
Anak, which city is
Hebron.
According to the LORD’s command to him, Joshua gave
Caleb son of Jephunneh a portion among the sons of Judah—Kiriath-arba, that is,
Hebron. (Arba
was the
forefather of
Anak.)
And he went up thence to the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjath-sepher.
From there he marched against the inhabitants of Debir (formerly known as Kiriath-sepher).
And the border of the children of Ephraim according to their families was thus: even the border of their inheritance on the east side was Ataroth-addar, unto Beth-horon the upper;
This was the territory of the descendants of Ephraim by their clans: The border of their inheritance went from Ataroth-addar in the east to Upper Beth-horon
The border went out from Tappuah westward unto the river Kanah; and the goings out thereof were at the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Ephraim by their families.
From Tappuah the border went westward to the
Brook of Kanah and ended at the Sea. This
was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Ephraim,
There
was also a lot for the rest of the children of
Manasseh by their families; for the children of Abiezer, and for the children of Helek, and for the children of Asriel, and for the children of
Shechem, and for the children of Hepher, and for the children of Shemida: these were the male children of
Manasseh the son of Joseph by their families.
So this
allotment was for the rest of the descendants of
Manasseh—the clans of Abiezer, Helek, Asriel,
Shechem, Hepher, and Shemida. These are the other male descendants of the clans of
Manasseh son of Joseph.
And the coast of
Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethah, that lieth before
Shechem; and the border went along on the right hand unto the inhabitants of En-tappuah.
Now the border of
Manasseh went from Asher to Michmethath near
Shechem, then southward to include the inhabitants of En-tappuah.
And the coast descended unto the river Kanah, southward of the river: these cities of Ephraim are among the cities of
Manasseh: the coast of
Manasseh also
was on the north side of the river, and the outgoings of it were at the sea:
From there the border continued southward to the
Brook of Kanah. There were cities belonging to Ephraim among the cities of
Manasseh, but the border of
Manasseh was on the north side of the
brook and ended at the Sea.
Southward it
was Ephraim’s, and northward it
was Manasseh’s, and the sea is his border; and they met together in Asher on the north, and in
Issachar on the east.
Ephraim’s territory
was to the south, and
Manasseh’s
was to the north, having the Sea as its border and adjoining Asher on the north and
Issachar on the east.
And
Manasseh had in
Issachar and in Asher Beth-shean and her towns, and Ibleam and her towns, and the inhabitants of
Dor and her towns, and the inhabitants of
Endor and her towns, and the inhabitants of Taanach and her towns, and the inhabitants of
Megiddo and her towns, even three countries.
Within
Issachar and Asher,
Manasseh was assigned Beth-shean, Ibleam,
Dor (that is, Naphath),
Endor, Taanach, and
Megiddo, each with their surrounding settlements.
And the whole congregation of the children of Israel assembled together at
Shiloh, and set up the tabernacle of the congregation there. And the land
was subdued before them.
Then the whole congregation of Israel assembled at
Shiloh and set up the Tent of Meeting there. And though the land
was subdued before them,
And their border on the north side
was from Jordan; and the border went up to the side of
Jericho on the north side, and went up through the mountains westward; and the goings out thereof were at the wilderness of Beth-
aven.
On the north side their border began at the Jordan, went up past the northern slope of
Jericho, headed west through the hill country, and came out at the wilderness of Beth-
aven.
And the border
was drawn thence, and compassed the corner of the sea southward, from the hill that lieth before Beth-horon southward; and the goings out thereof were at Kirjath-
baal, which is Kirjath-jearim, a city of the children of Judah: this
was the west quarter.
On the west side the border curved southward from the hill facing Beth-horon on the south and came out at Kiriath-
baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim), a city of the sons of Judah. This
was the western side.
And the south quarter was from the end of Kirjath-jearim, and the border went out on the west, and went out to the well of waters of Nephtoah:
On the south side the border began at the outskirts of Kiriath-jearim and extended westward to the spring at the Waters of Nephtoah.
And
was drawn from the north, and went forth to En-shemesh, and went forth toward Geliloth, which is over against the going up of Adummim, and descended to the stone of Bohan the son of
Reuben,
From there it curved northward and proceeded to En-shemesh and on to Geliloth facing the
Ascent of Adummim, and continued down to the Stone of Bohan son of
Reuben.
And the border passed along to the side of Beth-hoglah northward: and the outgoings of the border were at the north bay of the salt sea at the south end of Jordan: this was the south coast.
The border continued to the northern slope of Beth-hoglah and came out at the northern bay of the Salt Sea, at the mouth of the Jordan. This was the southern border.
And Jordan was the border of it on the east side. This was the inheritance of the children of Benjamin, by the coasts thereof round about, according to their families.
On the east side the border was the Jordan. These were the borders around the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Benjamin.
And Zelah, Eleph, and Jebusi, which is Jerusalem, Gibeath, and Kirjath; fourteen cities with their villages. This is the inheritance of the children of Benjamin according to their families.
Zelah, Haeleph,
Jebus (that is, Jerusalem), Gibeah, and Kiriath-jearim—fourteen cities, along with their villages. This
was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Benjamin.
And the second lot came forth to
Simeon, even for the tribe of the children of
Simeon according to their families: and their inheritance
was within the inheritance of the children of Judah.
The second lot came out for the clans of the tribe of
Simeon:
And all the villages that were round about these cities to Baalath-beer, Ramath of the south. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of
Simeon according to their families.
and all the villages surrounding these cities as far as Baalath-beer (
Ramah of the Negev). This
was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of
Simeon.
Out of the portion of the children of Judah
was the inheritance of the children of
Simeon: for the part of the children of Judah
was too much for them: therefore the children of
Simeon had their inheritance within the inheritance of them.
The inheritance of the Simeonites was taken from the territory of Judah, because the share for Judah’s descendants was too large for them. So the Simeonites received an inheritance within Judah’s portion.
And the third lot came up for the children of
Zebulun according to their families: and the border of their inheritance
was unto Sarid:
The third lot came up for the clans of the tribe of
Zebulun:
This is the inheritance of the children of
Zebulun according to their families, these cities with their villages.
This
was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of
Zebulun, including these cities and their villages.
And their border
was toward
Jezreel, and Chesulloth, and Shunem,
Their territory included
Jezreel, Chesulloth, Shunem,
This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of
Issachar according to their families, the cities and their villages.
This
was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of
Issachar, including these cities and their villages.
And their border was Helkath, and Hali, and Beten, and Achshaph,
Their territory included Helkath, Hali, Beten, Achshaph,
This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Asher according to their families, these cities with their villages.
This was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Asher, including these cities and their villages.
And their coast was from Heleph, from Allon to Zaanannim, and Adami, Nekeb, and Jabneel, unto Lakum; and the outgoings thereof were at Jordan:
Their border started at Heleph and the great tree of Zaanannim, passing Adami-nekeb and Jabneel as far as Lakkum and ending at the Jordan.
This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of
Naphtali according to their families, the cities and their villages.
This
was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of
Naphtali, including these cities and their villages.
And the coast of their inheritance was Zorah, and Eshtaol, and Ir-shemesh,
The territory of their inheritance included Zorah, Eshtaol, Ir-shemesh,
And the coast of the children of
Dan went out too little for them: therefore the children of
Dan went up to fight against Leshem, and took it, and
smote it with the edge of the sword, and possessed it, and dwelt therein, and called Leshem,
Dan, after the name of
Dan their father.
(Later, when the territory of the Danites
was lost to them, they went up and fought against Leshem, captured it, and put it to the sword. So they took possession of Leshem, settled there, and renamed it after their father
Dan.)
This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of
Dan according to their families, these cities with their villages.
This
was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of
Dan, including these cities and their villages.
Which the children of Aaron, being of the families of the Kohathites, who were of the children of Levi, had: for theirs was the first lot.
to the descendants of Aaron from the Kohathite clans of the Levites, because the first lot fell to them:
And they gave them the city of Arba the father of
Anak, which city is
Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, with the suburbs thereof round about it.
They gave them Kiriath-arba (that is,
Hebron), with its surrounding pasturelands, in the hill country of Judah. (Arba
was the father of
Anak.)
These cities were every one with their suburbs round about them: thus were all these cities.
Each of these cities had its own surrounding pasturelands; this was true for all the cities.
There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.
Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to the house of Israel had failed; everything was fulfilled.
And with him ten princes, of each chief house a prince throughout all the tribes of Israel; and each one was an head of the house of their fathers among the thousands of Israel.
With him they sent ten chiefs—one family leader from each tribe of Israel, each the head of a family among the clans of Israel.
Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we are not
cleansed until this day, although there
was a plague in the congregation of the LORD,
Was not the sin of Peor enough for us, from which we have not
cleansed ourselves to this day? It even brought a plague upon the congregation of the LORD.
Did not
Achan the son of Zerah commit a
trespass in the
accursed thing, and wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel? and that man perished not alone in his iniquity.
Was not
Achan son of Zerah unfaithful regarding what
was set apart for destruction, bringing wrath upon the whole congregation of Israel? Yet it
was not only
Achan who perished because of his sin!’”
The LORD God of gods, the LORD God of gods, he knoweth, and Israel he shall know; if it be in rebellion, or if in
transgression against the LORD, (save us not this day,)
“The LORD, the Mighty One, is God! The LORD, the Mighty One, is God! He knows, and may Israel also know. If this
was in rebellion or breach of faith against the LORD, do not
spare us
today.
And it came to pass a long time after that the LORD had given rest unto Israel from all their enemies round about, that Joshua waxed old and
stricken in age.
A long time after the LORD had given Israel rest from all the enemies around them, when Joshua was old and well along in years,
And ye have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto all these nations because of you; for the LORD your God is he that hath fought for you.
“and you have seen everything that the LORD your God has done to all these nations for your sake, because it was the LORD your God who fought for you.
And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof.
Now behold,
today I am going the way of all the earth, and you know with all your heart and soul that not one of the good promises the LORD your God made to you has failed. Everything
was fulfilled for you; not one promise has failed.
And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of the LORD.
Joshua recorded these things in the Book of the Law of God. Then he took a large stone and set it up there under the oak that was near the sanctuary of the LORD.
And
Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him in a hill that
pertained to
Phinehas his son, which
was given him in mount Ephraim.
Eleazar son of Aaron also died, and they buried him at Gibeah, which had been given to his son
Phinehas in the hill country of Ephraim.
And Judah went against the
Canaanites that dwelt in
Hebron: (now the name of
Hebron before
was Kirjath-arba:) and they
slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
Judah also marched against the
Canaanites who were living in
Hebron (formerly known as Kiriath-arba), and they struck down Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai.
And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjath-sepher:
From there they marched against the inhabitants of Debir (formerly known as Kiriath-sepher).
And Judah went with
Simeon his brother, and they
slew the
Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city
was called Hormah.
Then the men of Judah went with their brothers the Simeonites, attacked the
Canaanites living in Zephath, and devoted the city to destruction. So it
was called Hormah.
And the LORD
was with Judah; and he
drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had
chariots of iron.
The LORD
was with Judah, and they took possession of the hill country; but they could not drive out the inhabitants of the plains because they had
chariots of iron.
And the house of Joseph, they also went up against
Bethel: and the LORD
was with them.
The house of Joseph also attacked
Bethel, and the LORD
was with them.
And the house of Joseph sent to
descry Bethel. (Now the name of the city before
was Luz.)
And it came to pass, when Israel
was strong, that they put the
Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.
When Israel became stronger, they pressed the
Canaanites into forced labor, but they never drove them out completely.
And the coast of the
Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
And the border of the
Amorites extended from the
Ascent of Akrabbim to Sela and beyond.
And the anger of the LORD
was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that
spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.
Then the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He delivered them into the hands of those who
plundered them. He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, whom they were no longer able to resist.
Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the LORD
was against them for evil, as the LORD had said, and as the LORD had
sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed.
Wherever Israel marched out, the hand of the LORD
was against them to bring
calamity, just as He had
sworn to them. So they were greatly distressed.
And when the LORD raised them up judges, then the LORD
was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it
repented the LORD because of their groanings by reason of them that
oppressed them and
vexed them.
Whenever the LORD raised up a judge for the Israelites, He
was with that judge and saved them from the hands of their enemies while the judge
was still alive; for the LORD
was moved to
pity by their
groaning under those who
oppressed them and
afflicted them.
And it came to pass, when the judge
was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their
stubborn way.
But when the judge died, the Israelites became even more corrupt than their fathers, going after other gods to serve them and bow down to them. They would not give up their evil practices and
stubborn ways.
And the anger of the LORD
was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath
transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not
hearkened unto my voice;
So the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He said, “Because this nation has
transgressed the covenant I laid down for their fathers and has not
heeded My voice,
Therefore the anger of the LORD
was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushan-rishathaim king of
Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushan-rishathaim eight years.
Then the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He sold them into the hand of Cushan-rishathaim king of
Aram-naharaim, and the Israelites served him eight years.
And he brought the present unto
Eglon king of Moab: and
Eglon was a very fat man.
and brought the tribute to
Eglon king of Moab, who
was an
obese man.
And Ehud came unto him; and he was sitting in a summer parlour, which he had for himself alone. And Ehud said, I have a message from God unto thee. And he arose out of his seat.
Then Ehud approached him while he was sitting alone in the coolness of his upper room. “I have a word from God for you,” Ehud said, and the king rose from his seat.
When he was gone out, his servants came; and when they saw that, behold, the doors of the parlour were locked, they said, Surely he covereth his feet in his summer chamber.
After Ehud
was gone,
Eglon’s servants came in and found the doors of the upper room locked. “He must be
relieving himself in the cool room,” they said.
And they
tarried till they were
ashamed: and, behold, he opened not the doors of the parlour; therefore they took a key, and opened them: and, behold, their lord
was fallen down dead on the earth.
So they waited until they became
worried and saw that he had still not opened the doors of the upper room. Then they took the key and opened the doors—and there
was their lord lying dead on the floor.
And it came to pass, when he
was come, that he
blew a
trumpet in the mountain of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the mount, and he before them.
On arriving in Seirah, he
blew the ram’s horn throughout the hill country of Ephraim. The Israelites came down with him from the hills, and he became their leader.
So Moab
was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest
fourscore years.
So Moab was subdued under the hand of Israel that day, and the land had rest for eighty years.
And after him
was Shamgar the son of Anath, which
slew of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox
goad: and he also delivered Israel.
After Ehud came Shamgar son of Anath. And he too saved Israel, striking down six hundred Philistines with an
oxgoad.
And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the LORD, when Ehud was dead.
After Ehud died, the Israelites again did evil in the sight of the LORD.
And the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of
Canaan, that reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose host
was Sisera, which dwelt in
Harosheth of the Gentiles.
So the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of
Canaan, who reigned in Hazor. The commander of his forces
was Sisera, who lived in
Harosheth-hagoyim.
Now
Heber the Kenite, which
was of the children of Hobab the father in law of Moses, had severed himself from the
Kenites, and pitched his tent unto the plain of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh.
Now
Heber the Kenite had moved away from the
Kenites, the descendants of Hobab the father-in-law of Moses, and had pitched his tent by the great tree of Zaanannim, which
was near Kedesh.
And they shewed Sisera that
Barak the son of Abinoam
was gone up to mount
Tabor.
When Sisera
was told that
Barak son of Abinoam had gone up Mount
Tabor,
But
Barak pursued after the
chariots, and after the host, unto
Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the host of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword; and there
was not a man left.
Then
Barak pursued the
chariots and army as far as
Harosheth-hagoyim, and the whole army of Sisera fell by the sword; not a single man
was left.
Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of
Heber the Kenite: for there
was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of
Heber the Kenite.
Meanwhile, Sisera had fled on foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of
Heber the Kenite, because there
was peace between Jabin king of Hazor and the house of
Heber the Kenite.
Then Jael
Heber’s wife took a
nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and
smote the
nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he
was fast
asleep and
weary. So he died.
But as he lay sleeping from
exhaustion,
Heber’s wife Jael took a tent
peg,
grabbed a hammer, and went silently to Sisera. She drove the
peg through his temple and into the ground, and he died.
And, behold, as
Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will
shew thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the
nail was in his temples.
When
Barak arrived in pursuit of Sisera, Jael went out to
greet him and said to him, “Come, and I will show you the man you are seeking.” So he went in with her, and there lay Sisera dead, with a tent
peg through his temple.
