Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
All the king’s servants, and the people of the king’s provinces, do know, that
whosoever,
whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden
sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days.
“All the royal officials and the people of the king’s provinces know that one law applies to every man or woman who approaches the king in the inner court without being summoned—that he be put to death. Only if the king extends the gold
scepter may that person live. But I have not been summoned to appear before the king for the past thirty days.”
For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there
enlargement and
deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth
whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
For if you remain silent at this time, relief and
deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows if perhaps you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:
But when He remains silent, who can
condemn Him? When He hides His face, who can see Him? Yet He watches over both man and nation,
Should it be according to thy mind? he will
recompense it,
whether thou refuse, or
whether thou choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.
Should God repay you on your own terms when you have
disavowed His? You must choose, not I; so tell me what you know.
He causeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy.
Whether for punishment or for His land, He accomplishes this in His loving devotion.
Before your pots can feel the thorns, he shall take them away as with a
whirlwind, both living, and in his wrath.
Before your pots can feel the burning thorns—
whether green or dry— He will
sweep them away.
Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.
Even a young man is known by his actions— whether his conduct is pure and upright.
If a wise man contendeth with a
foolish man,
whether he
rage or
laugh, there is no rest.
If a wise man goes to court with a
fool, there will be
raving and
laughing with no resolution.
And who knoweth
whether he shall be a wise man or a
fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labour wherein I have laboured, and wherein I have shewed myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity.
And who knows
whether that man will be wise or
foolish? Yet he will take over all the labor at which I have worked
skillfully under the sun. This too is
futile.
The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.
The sleep of the worker is sweet, whether he eats little or much, but the abundance of the rich man permits him no sleep.
For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them.
So I took all this to heart and concluded that the righteous and the wise, as well as their deeds, are in God’s hands. Man does not know what lies
ahead,
whether love or
hate.
If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.
If the clouds are full, they will pour out rain upon the earth; whether a tree falls to the south or to the north, in the place where it falls, there it will lie.
In the morning
sow thy seed, and in the evening
withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not
whether shall
prosper, either this or that, or
whether they both shall be alike good.
Sow your seed in the morning, and do not rest your hands in the evening, for you do not know which will succeed,
whether this or that, or if both will equally
prosper.
For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
For God will bring every deed into judgment, along with every hidden thing, whether good or evil.
I went down into the garden of nuts to see the fruits of the valley, and to see
whether the vine flourished, and the pomegranates
budded.
I went down to the
walnut grove to see the blossoms of the valley, to see if the vines were
budding or the pomegranates were in
bloom.
Let us get up early to the vineyards; let us see if the vine
flourish,
whether the tender
grape appear, and the pomegranates
bud forth: there will I give thee my loves.
Let us go early to the vineyards to see if the vine has
budded, if the
blossom has opened, if the pomegranates are in
bloom— there I will give you my love.
Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.
“Ask for a sign from the LORD your God,
whether from the depths of
Sheol or the heights of heaven.”
And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
And whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you: “This is the way. Walk in it.”
Ask ye now, and see
whether a man
doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in
travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?
Ask now, and see: Can a male give birth? Why then do I see every man with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labor and every face turned pale?
Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.
Whether it is pleasant or unpleasant, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God to whom we are sending you, so that it may go well with us, for we will obey the voice of the LORD our God!”
And they,
whether they will hear, or
whether they will
forbear, (for they are a
rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them.
And
whether they
listen or refuse to
listen—for they are a
rebellious house—they will know that a prophet has been among them.
And thou shalt speak my words unto them,
whether they will hear, or
whether they will
forbear: for they are most
rebellious.
And go, get thee to them of the captivity, unto the children of thy people, and speak unto them, and tell them, Thus saith the Lord GOD;
whether they will hear, or
whether they will
forbear.
Go to your people, the exiles; speak to them and tell them, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says,’
whether they
listen or refuse to
listen.”
The priests shall not eat of any thing that is dead of itself, or
torn,
whether it be fowl or beast.
The priests may not eat any bird or animal found dead or
torn by wild beasts.
Now when the prince shall prepare a voluntary burnt offering or peace offerings
voluntarily unto the LORD, one shall then open him the gate that looketh toward the east, and he shall prepare his burnt offering and his peace offerings, as he did on the sabbath day: then he shall go forth; and after his going forth one shall shut the gate.
When the prince makes a
freewill offering to the LORD,
whether a burnt offering or a peace offering, the gate facing east must be opened for him. He is to offer his burnt offering or peace offering just as he does on the Sabbath day. Then he shall go out, and the gate must be closed after he goes out.
For
whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be
forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?
Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are
forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk?’
Whether of them
twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them,
Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.
Which of the two did the will of his father?” “The first,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you.
Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes it sacred?
Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?
You blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar that makes it sacred?
But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I
adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us
whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
But Jesus remained silent. Then the high priest said to Him, “I charge You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God.”
The governor answered and said unto them,
Whether of the
twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.
“Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” asked the governor. “Barabbas,” they replied.
The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.
But the others said, “Leave Him alone. Let us see if
Elijah comes to save Him.”
Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the
palsy, Thy sins be
forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
“Which is easier: to say to a
paralytic, ‘Your sins are
forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up,
pick up your mat, and walk’?
And they watched him,
whether he would
heal him on the sabbath day; that they might
accuse him.
In order to
accuse Jesus, they were watching to see if He would
heal on the Sabbath.
Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at
midnight, or at the
cockcrowing, or in the morning:
Therefore keep watch, because you do not know when the master of the house will return—
whether in the evening, at
midnight, when the
rooster crows, or in the morning.
And one ran and filled a
spunge full of
vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see
whether Elias will come to take him down.
And someone ran and filled a
sponge with
sour wine. He put it on a reed and held it up for Jesus to drink, saying, “Leave Him alone. Let us see if
Elijah comes to take Him down.”
And
Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the
centurion, he asked him
whether he had been any while dead.
Pilate was surprised to hear that Jesus was already dead, so he summoned the
centurion to ask if this was so.
And as the people were in expectation, and all men
mused in their hearts of John,
whether he were the Christ, or not;
The people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John could be the Christ.
Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be
forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?
Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are
forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk?’
For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
Which of you, wishing to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost to see if he has the resources to complete it?
Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?
Or what king on his way to war with another king will not first sit down and consider
whether he can
engage with ten thousand men the one coming against him with twenty thousand?
For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.
For who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines? But I am among you as one who serves.
When
Pilate heard of
Galilee, he asked
whether the man were a Galilaean.
If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
If
anyone desires to do His will, he will know
whether My teaching is from God or
whether I speak on My own.
He answered and said,
Whether he be a
sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.
He answered, “
Whether He is a
sinner I do not know. There is one thing I do know: I was blind, but now I see!”
And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men,
shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,
And they prayed, “Lord, You know
everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two You have chosen
But Peter and John answered and said unto them,
Whether it be right in the sight of God to
hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
But Peter and John replied, “Judge for
yourselves whether it is right in God’s sight to
listen to you rather than God.
And Peter answered unto her, Tell me
whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said,
Yea, for so much.
“Tell me,” said Peter, “is this the price you and your husband got for the land?” “
Yes,” she answered, “that is the price.”
And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
and requested letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any men or women belonging to the Way, he could bring them as prisoners to Jerusalem.
And called, and asked
whether Simon, which was
surnamed Peter, were
lodged there.
They called out to ask if Simon called Peter was staying there.
These were more noble than those in
Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all
readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily,
whether those things were so.
Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the
Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true.
He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers?” “No,” they answered, “we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
And because I doubted of such manner of questions, I asked him whether he would go to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these matters.
Since I was at a loss as to how to
investigate these matters, I asked if he was willing to go to Jerusalem and be tried there on these charges.
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield
yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey;
whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
Do you not know that when you offer
yourselves as
obedient slaves, you are slaves to the one you obey,
whether you are slaves to sin leading to death, or to obedience leading to righteousness?
Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us,
whether prophecy, let us
prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
We have different gifts according to the grace given us. If one’s gift is prophecy, let him use it in proportion to his faith;
For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.
If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.
And I
baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not
whether I
baptized any other.
Whether Paul, or Apollos, or
Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours;
whether Paul or Apollos or
Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future. All of them belong to you,
For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?
How do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife?
For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as there are many so-called gods and lords),
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or
whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God.
Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:
Do not become a
stumbling block,
whether to Jews or Greeks or the church of God—
For by one Spirit are we all
baptized into one body,
whether we be Jews or Gentiles,
whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
For in one Spirit we were all
baptized into one body,
whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free, and we were all given one Spirit to drink.
And
whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members
rejoice with it.
If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
Charity never faileth: but
whether there be
prophecies, they shall fail;
whether there be tongues, they shall cease;
whether there be knowledge, it shall
vanish away.
Love never fails. But where there are
prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be restrained; where there is knowledge, it will be dismissed.
And even things without life giving sound,
whether pipe or
harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or
harped?
Even in the case of lifeless instruments, such as the
flute or
harp, how will
anyone recognize the
tune they are playing unless the notes are distinct?
Therefore
whether it were I or they, so we
preach, and so ye believed.
Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we
preach, and this is what you believed.
If we are
afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which accomplishes in you patient
endurance of the same sufferings we experience.
For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you,
whether ye be
obedient in all things.
My purpose in writing you was to see if you would stand the test and be
obedient in everything.
Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.
So we
aspire to please Him,
whether we are here in this body or away from it.
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive his due for the things done in the body, whether good or bad.
For
whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or
whether we be
sober, it is for your cause.
If we are out of our mind, it is for God; if we are of sound mind, it is for you.
Whether any do
enquire of
Titus, he is my
partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren be enquired of, they are the messengers of the churches, and the glory of Christ.
As for
Titus, he is my
partner and fellow worker among you. As for our brothers, they are messengers of the churches, to the glory of Christ.
I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.
I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of it I do not know, but God knows.
And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;)
And I know that this man—whether in the body or out of it I do not know, but God knows—
Examine
yourselves,
whether ye be in the faith; prove your own
selves. Know ye not your own
selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
Examine
yourselves to see
whether you are in the faith; test
yourselves. Can’t you see for
yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you—unless you actually fail the test?
Knowing that
whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord,
whether he be bond or free.
because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.
What then? notwithstanding, every way,
whether in
pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do
rejoice,
yea, and will
rejoice.
What then is the issue? Just this: that in every way,
whether by false motives or true, Christ is preached. And in this I
rejoice.
Yes, and I will continue to
rejoice,
According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be
ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be
magnified in my body,
whether it be by life, or by death.
I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be
ashamed, but will have complete boldness so that now as always Christ will be
exalted in my body,
whether by life or by death.
Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that
whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind
striving together for the faith of the gospel;
Nevertheless, conduct
yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then,
whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit,
contending side by side for the faith of the gospel,
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible,
whether they be thrones, or dominions, or
principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
For in Him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him.
And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to
reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say,
whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
and through Him to
reconcile to Himself all things,
whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through the blood of His cross.
Who died for us, that,
whether we
wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
He died for us so that,
whether we are
awake or
asleep, we may live together with Him.
Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
Therefore, brothers, stand firm and
cling to the traditions we taught you,
whether by speech or by letter.
Submit
yourselves to every
ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake:
whether it be to the king, as supreme;
Submit
yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution,
whether to the king as the supreme authority,
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God. For many false prophets have gone out into the world.
And
whosoever shall
transgress the law of thy God, and of the king, shall be punished
diligently,
whether it be by death, or other punishment, by penalty of money, or by imprisonment.
Shew me then
whether there be more to come than is past, or more past than is to come.
Then he said unto him, Go and
tarry not. So he went in and said to his father, Behold, I have found one which will go with me. Then he said, Call him unto me, that I may know of what tribe he is, and
whether he be a
trusty man to go with thee.
He said unto his wife Edna. Send one of the maids, and let her see
whether he be alive: if he be not, that we may
bury him, and no man know it.
Whether they were absent or present, they were
vexed alike.
For
whether he were
husbandman, or
shepherd, or a labourer in the field, he was overtaken, and
endured that necessity, which could not be avoided: for they were all bound with one chain of darkness.
Whether it were a
whistling wind, or a
melodious noise of birds among the spreading branches, or a pleasing fall of water running violently,
Whether he be rich, noble, or poor, their glory is the fear of the Lord.
The heart of a man changeth his countenance,
whether it be for good or evil: and a
merry heart maketh a
cheerful countenance.
He hath set fire and water before thee: stretch forth thy hand unto
whether thou
wilt.
Before man is life and death; and whether him liketh shall be given him.
Whether it be to friend or
foe, talk not of other men’s lives; and if thou canst without offence,
reveal them not.
Whether a man be rich or poor, if he have a good heart toward the Lord, he shall at all times
rejoice with a
cheerful countenance.
