Our little ones, our
wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall be there in the cities of

wives, our
livestock, and all our animals will remain here in the cities of

wives, and your little ones, and your cattle, (for I know that ye have much cattle,) shall
abide in your cities which I have given you;

wives of our daughters: for the children of Israel have
sworn, saying,
Cursed be he that giveth a wife to Benjamin.
But we cannot give them our daughters as
wives.” For the Israelites had
sworn, “
Cursed is he who gives a wife to a
Benjamite.”
And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come unto us to
complain, that we will say unto them, Be favourable unto them for our sakes: because we reserved not to each man his wife in the war: for ye did not give unto them at this time, that ye should be guilty.
When their fathers or brothers come to us to
complain, we will tell them, ‘Do us a favor by helping them, since we did not get
wives for each of them in the war. Since you did not actually give them your daughters, you have no guilt.’”

wives into thy
bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.

hadad says: ‘I have sent to you to demand your silver, your gold, your
wives, and your children.
Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this man seeketh mischief: for he sent unto me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not.

wives, and all thy goods:

And they came up into Judah, and
brake into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king’s house, and his sons also, and his
wives; so that there was never a son left him, save

wives; not a son was left to him except
Jehoahaz, his youngest.

And to the
genealogy of all their little ones, their
wives, and their sons, and their daughters, through all the congregation: for in their set office they
sanctified themselves in
holiness:
The
genealogy included all the little ones,
wives, sons, and daughters in the whole assembly. For they had faithfully consecrated themselves as holy.
For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands:
yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this
trespass.
Indeed, the Israelites have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, so that the holy seed has been mixed with the people of the land. And the leaders and officials have taken the lead in this unfaithfulness!”
And Shechaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of
Elam, answered and said unto
Ezra, We have
trespassed against our God, and have taken strange
wives of the people of the land: yet now there is hope in Israel concerning this thing.
Then Shecaniah son of Jehiel, an
Elamite, said to
Ezra: “We have been unfaithful to our God by marrying foreign women from the people of the land, yet in spite of this, there is hope for Israel.
Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the
wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those that
tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law.
So now let us make a covenant before our God to send away all the foreign
wives and their children, according to the counsel of my lord and of those who
tremble at the command of our God. Let it be done according to the Law.
And
Ezra the priest stood up, and said unto them, Ye have
transgressed, and have taken strange
wives, to increase the
trespass of Israel.
Then
Ezra the priest stood up and said to them, “You have been unfaithful by marrying foreign women, adding to the guilt of Israel.
Now therefore make confession unto the LORD God of your fathers, and do his pleasure: and separate
yourselves from the people of the land, and from the strange
wives.
Now, therefore, make a confession to the LORD, the God of your fathers, and do His will. Separate
yourselves from the people of the land and from your foreign
wives.”
Let now our rulers of all the congregation stand, and let all them which have taken strange wives in our cities come at appointed times, and with them the elders of every city, and the judges thereof, until the fierce wrath of our God for this matter be turned from us.
Let our leaders represent the whole assembly. Then let
everyone in our towns who has married a foreign woman come at an appointed time, together with the elders and judges of each town, until the fierce anger of our God in this matter is turned away from us.”
And they made an end with all the men that had taken strange wives by the first day of the first month.
and by the first day of the first month they had dealt with all the men who had married foreign women.
And among the sons of the priests there were found that had taken strange
wives: namely, of the sons of Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren; Maaseiah, and
Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah.
Among the descendants of the priests who had married foreign women were found these descendants of Jeshua son of Jozadak and his brothers:
And they gave their hands that they would put away their
wives; and being guilty, they offered a ram of the flock for their
trespass.
Maaseiah,
Eliezer, Jarib, and Gedaliah. They
pledged to send their
wives away, and for their guilt they presented a ram from the flock as a guilt offering.
All these had taken strange wives: and some of them had wives by whom they had children.
All these men had married foreign women, and some of them had children by these wives.
And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.
After I had made an inspection, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials, and the rest of the people, “Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and
awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons and your daughters, your
wives and your homes.”
And there was a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brethren the Jews.
About that time there was a great outcry from the people and their wives against their fellow Jews.
And the rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the
porters, the singers, the
Nethinims, and all they that had separated themselves from the people of the lands unto the law of God, their
wives, their sons, and their daughters, every one having knowledge, and having understanding;
“The rest of the people—the priests, Levites, gatekeepers, singers, temple servants, and all who had separated themselves from the people of the land to obey the Law of God—along with their wives and all their sons and daughters who are able to understand,
Also that day they offered great sacrifices, and
rejoiced: for God had made them
rejoice with great joy: the
wives also and the children
rejoiced: so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard even
afar off.
On that day they offered great sacrifices,
rejoicing because God had given them great joy. The women and children also
rejoiced, so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard from
afar.
In those days also saw I Jews that had married
wives of
Ashdod, of
Ammon, and of Moab:
In those days I also saw Jews who had married women from
Ashdod,
Ammon, and Moab.
And I
contended with them, and
cursed them, and
smote certain of them, and
plucked off their hair, and made them
swear by God, saying, Ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters unto your sons, or for
yourselves.
I
rebuked them and called down curses on them. I beat some of these men and pulled out their hair. Then I made them take an oath before God and said, “You must not give your daughters in marriage to their sons or take their daughters as
wives for your sons or for
yourselves!
Shall we then
hearken unto you to do all this great evil, to
transgress against our God in marrying strange
wives?
Must we now hear that you too are doing all this terrible evil and acting unfaithfully against our God by marrying foreign women?”
And when the king’s decree which he shall make shall be published throughout all his empire, (for it is great,) all the wives shall give to their husbands honour, both to great and small.
The edict the king issues will be heard throughout his vast kingdom—and so all women, from the least to the greatest, will honor their husbands.”
Their children also shall be
dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be
spoiled, and their
wives ravished.
Their infants will be
dashed to pieces before their eyes, their houses will be
looted, and their
wives will be
ravished.
And their houses shall be turned unto others, with their fields and wives together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.
Their houses will be turned over to others, their fields and wives as well, for I will stretch out My hand against the inhabitants of the land,” declares the LORD.
Therefore will I give their
wives unto others, and their fields to them that shall
inherit them: for every one from the least even unto the greatest is given to
covetousness, from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
Therefore I will give their
wives to other men and their fields to new owners. For from the least of them to the greatest, all are
greedy for gain; from prophet to priest, all practice
deceit.
And the people to whom they
prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to
bury them, them, their
wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them.
And the people to whom they
prophesy will be thrown into the streets of Jerusalem because of famine and sword. There will be no one to
bury them or their
wives, their sons or their daughters. I will pour out their own evil upon them.
Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword; and let their
wives be
bereaved of their children, and be widows; and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in battle.
Therefore, hand their children over to famine; pour out the power of the sword upon them. Let their wives become childless and widowed; let their husbands be slain by disease, their young men struck down by the sword in battle.
Take ye
wives, and
beget sons and daughters; and take
wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.
Take wives and have sons and daughters. Take wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Multiply there; do not decrease.
