Except it be for this one voice, that I
cried standing
among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.
unless it was this one thing I called out as I stood in their presence: ‘It is concerning the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial before you
today.’”
Let them therefore, said he, which
among you are able, go down with me, and
accuse this man, if there be any wickedness in him.
So if this man has done anything wrong, let some of your leaders come down with me and
accuse him there.”
And when he had
tarried among them more than ten days, he went down unto Caesarea; and the next day sitting on the judgment seat commanded Paul to be brought.
After
spending no more than eight or ten days with them,
Festus went down to Caesarea. The next day he sat on the judgment seat and ordered that Paul be brought in.
Especially because I know thee to be
expert in all customs and questions which are
among the Jews: wherefore I
beseech thee to hear me patiently.
especially since you are acquainted with all the Jewish customs and
controversies. I
beg you, therefore, to
listen to me patiently.
My manner of life from my youth, which was at the first among mine own nation at Jerusalem, know all the Jews;
Surely all the Jews know how I have lived from the earliest days of my youth, among my own people and in Jerusalem.
To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of
Satan unto God, that they may receive
forgiveness of sins, and inheritance
among them which are
sanctified by faith that is in me.
to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of
Satan to God, that they may receive
forgiveness of sins and an inheritance
among those
sanctified by faith in Me.’
But after long
abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have
hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from
Crete, and to have gained this
harm and loss.
After the men had gone a long time without food, Paul stood up
among them and said, “Men, you should have followed my advice not to sail from
Crete. Then you would have
averted this
disaster and loss.
And now I
exhort you to be of good
cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life
among you, but of the ship.
But now I
urge you to keep up your courage, because you will not experience any loss of life, but only of the ship.
And when the barbarians saw the
venomous beast
hang on his hand, they said
among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet
vengeance suffereth not to live.
When the islanders saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “Surely this man is a murderer. Although he was saved from the sea, Justice has not allowed him to live.”
And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,
They disagreed among themselves and began to leave after Paul had made this final statement: “The Holy Spirit was right when He spoke to your fathers through Isaiah the prophet:
And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.
By whom we have received grace and
apostleship, for obedience to the faith
among all nations, for his name:
Through Him and on behalf of His name, we received grace and
apostleship to call all those
among the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith.
Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:
And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.
Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that
oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit
among you also, even as
among other Gentiles.
I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, how often I
planned to come to you (but have been prevented from visiting until now), in order that I might have a harvest
among you, just as I have had
among the other Gentiles.
For the name of God is
blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.
As it is written: “God’s name is
blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”
For those God
foreknew, He also predestined to be
conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the
firstborn among many brothers.
And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree,
wert graffed in
among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;
Now if some branches have been broken off, and you, a wild olive shoot, have been
grafted in
among the others to share in the
nourishment of the olive root,
For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is
among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think
soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of
yourself more highly than you ought, but think of
yourself with
sober judgment, according to the measure of faith God has given you.
And that the Gentiles might
glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will
confess to thee
among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name.
so that the Gentiles may
glorify God for His mercy. As it is written: “Therefore I will praise You
among the Gentiles; I will sing hymns to Your name.”
For it hath pleased them of
Macedonia and
Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem.
For
Macedonia and
Achaia were pleased to make a contribution for the poor
among the saints in Jerusalem.
Salute Andronicus and Junia, my
kinsmen, and my fellowprisoners, who are of note
among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me.
Greet Andronicus and Junia, my fellow countrymen and fellow prisoners. They are outstanding
among the apostles, and they were in Christ before I was.
Now I
beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions
among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree together, so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be united in mind and conviction.
For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
My brothers, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you.
Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of
Cephas; and I of Christ.
What I mean is this: Individuals
among you are saying, “I follow Paul,” “I follow Apollos,” “I follow
Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.”
For I determined not to know any thing
among you, save Jesus Christ, and him
crucified.
For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and Him
crucified.
Howbeit we speak wisdom
among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to
nought:
Among the
mature, however, we speak a message of wisdom—but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.
For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
For who among men knows the thoughts of man except his own spirit within him? So too, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.
For ye are yet
carnal: for whereas there is
among you
envying, and
strife, and divisions, are ye not
carnal, and walk as men?
for you are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and
dissension among you, are you not worldly? Are you not walking in the way of man?
Let no man
deceive himself. If any man
among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a
fool, that he may be wise.
Let no one
deceive himself. If any of you thinks he is wise in this age, he should become a
fool, so that he may become wise.
It is reported commonly that there is
fornication among you, and such
fornication as is not so much as named
among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife.
It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality
among you, and of a kind that is
intolerable even
among pagans: A man has his father’s wife.
And ye are
puffed up, and have not rather
mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from
among you.
And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have been
stricken with grief and have removed from your
fellowship the man who did this?
But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from
among yourselves that wicked person.
God will judge those outside. “
Expel the wicked man from
among you.”
I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?
I say this to your shame. Is there really no one
among you wise enough to
arbitrate between his brothers?
Now therefore there is utterly a fault
among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer
yourselves to be
defrauded?
The very fact that you have lawsuits
among you means that you are thoroughly defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be
cheated?
If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall
reap your
carnal things?
If we have sown spiritual seed
among you, is it too much for us to
reap a material harvest from you?
For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.
First of all, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it.
For there must be also
heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest
among you.
And indeed, there must be differences among you to show which of you are approved.
For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.
That is why many
among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen
asleep.
And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.
and the secrets of his heart will be made known. So he will fall facedown and worship God,
proclaiming, “God is truly
among you!”
Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?
But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?
For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached
among you by us, even by me and
Silvanus and
Timotheus, was not
yea and
nay, but in him was
yea.
For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was proclaimed
among you by me and
Silvanus and
Timothy, was not “
Yes” and “No,” but in Him it has always been “
Yes.”
For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:
For we are to God the sweet
aroma of Christ
among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.
And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
What agreement can exist between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be My people.”
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
“Therefore come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.”
Whether any do
enquire of
Titus, he is my
partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren be enquired of, they are the messengers of the churches, and the glory of Christ.
As for
Titus, he is my
partner and fellow worker
among you. As for our brothers, they are messengers of the churches, to the glory of Christ.
Now I Paul myself
beseech you by the
meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base
among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
Now by the mildness and gentleness of Christ, I appeal to you—I, Paul, who am humble when face to face with you, but bold when away.
For we
dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that
commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves
among themselves, are not wise.
We do not
dare to
classify or compare ourselves with some who
commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they show their ignorance.
Not
boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men’s labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,
Neither do we
boast beyond our limits in the labors of others. But we hope that as your faith increases, our area of influence
among you will greatly increase as well,
But though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things.
Although I am not a polished speaker, I am certainly not lacking in knowledge. We have made this clear to you in every way possible.
In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;
In my frequent journeys, I have been in danger from rivers and from
bandits, in danger from my countrymen and from the Gentiles, in danger in the city and in the country, in danger on the sea and
among false brothers,
Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought
among you in all
patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.
The true marks of an apostle—signs, wonders, and miracles—were performed
among you with great
perseverance.
I am afraid that when I come again, my God will humble me before you, and I will be
grieved over many who have
sinned earlier and have not
repented of their acts of impurity, sexual immorality, and
debauchery.
Since ye seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, which to you-ward is not weak, but is mighty in you.
since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking through me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you.
To
reveal his Son in me, that I might
preach him
among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:
to
reveal His Son in me so that I might
preach Him
among the Gentiles, I did not
rush to
consult with flesh and blood,
And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I
preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain.
I went in
response to a revelation and set before them the gospel that I
preach among the Gentiles. But I spoke privately to those recognized as leaders, for fear that I was running or had already run in vain.
He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
Does God
lavish His Spirit on you and work miracles
among you because you practice the law, or because you hear and believe?
Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh,
fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
All of us also lived
among them at one time,
fulfilling the cravings of our flesh and
indulging its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature children of wrath.
Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should
preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
Though I am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given me: to
preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,
But
among you, as is proper
among the saints, there must not be even a
hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of
greed.
so that you may be
blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a
crooked and
perverse generation, in which you
shine as lights in the world
Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it
doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:
that has come to you. All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood the grace of God.
And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the
firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and
firstborn from
among the dead, so that in all things He may have preeminence.
To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this
mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
To them God has chosen to make known
among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this
mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
When you lived among them, you also used to walk in these ways.
And Jesus, which is called Justus, who are of the
circumcision. These only are my fellow workers unto the kingdom of God, which have been a comfort unto me.
Jesus, who is called Justus, also sends greetings. These are the only Jews among my fellow workers for the kingdom of God, and they have been a comfort to me.
And when this epistle is read
among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the epistle from
Laodicea.
After this letter has been read
among you, make sure that it is also read in the church of the Laodiceans, and that you in turn read the letter from
Laodicea.
For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.
because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power, in the Holy Spirit, and with great conviction—just as you know we lived among you for your sake.
But we were gentle
among you, even as a
nurse cherisheth her children:
On the contrary, we were gentle
among you, like a
nursing mother caring for her children.
Ye are witnesses, and God also, how
holily and justly and unblameably we
behaved ourselves
among you that believe:
You are witnesses, and so is God, of how holy, righteous, and
blameless our conduct was
among you who believed.
And we
beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour
among you, and are over you in the Lord, and
admonish you;
But we ask you, brothers, to acknowledge those who work
diligently among you, who preside over you in the Lord and give you instruction.
And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace
among yourselves.
In love, hold them in highest regard because of their work. Live in peace with one another.
See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both
among yourselves, and to all men.
Make sure that no one repays evil for evil. Always pursue what is good for one another and for all people.
So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your
patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye
endure:
When he shall come to be
glorified in his saints, and to be
admired in all them that believe (because our testimony
among you was believed) in that day.
on the day He comes to be
glorified in His saints and regarded with wonder by all who have believed, including you who have believed our testimony.
For
yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we
behaved not ourselves disorderly
among you;
For you
yourselves know how you ought to
imitate us, because we were not undisciplined
among you,
For we hear that there are some which walk
among you disorderly, working not at all, but are
busybodies.
Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto
Satan, that they may learn not to
blaspheme.
Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to
Satan to be taught not to
blaspheme.
And without controversy great is the
mystery of
godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
By common confession, the
mystery of
godliness is great: He appeared in the flesh, was
vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was proclaimed
among the nations, was believed in throughout the world, was taken up in glory.
And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
And the things that you have heard me say
among many witnesses,
entrust these to faithful men who will be qualified to teach others as well.
And their word will eat as
doth a
canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
and the talk of such men will spread like
gangrene.
Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus,
For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:
Every high priest is appointed from among men to represent them in matters relating to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
If
anyone considers himself religious and yet does not
bridle his tongue, he deceives his heart and his religion is worthless.
Are ye not then partial in
yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?
And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue
among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of
hell.
The tongue also is a fire, a world of wickedness
among the parts of the body. It pollutes the whole person, sets the course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by
hell.
Who is a wise man and
endued with knowledge
among you? let him
shew out of a good conversation his works with
meekness of wisdom.
Who is wise and understanding
among you? Let him show it by his good conduct, by deeds done in the
humility that comes from wisdom.
From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
What causes conflicts and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from the passions at war within you?
Is any
among you
afflicted? let him pray. Is any
merry? let him sing psalms.
Is any one of you suffering? He should pray. Is
anyone cheerful? He should sing praises.
Is any sick
among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him,
anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and
anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.
Having your conversation
honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold,
glorify God in the day of
visitation.
Conduct
yourselves with such honor
among the Gentiles that, though they
slander you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and
glorify God on the day He visits us.
And above all things have
fervent charity
among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
Above all, love one another deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
The elders which are
among you I
exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a
partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
As a fellow elder, a witness of Christ’s sufferings, and a
partaker of the glory to be revealed, I appeal to the elders
among you:
Feed the flock of God which is
among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by
constraint, but willingly; not for
filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
Be
shepherds of God’s flock that is
among you, watching over them not out of
compulsion, but because it is God’s will; not out of
greed, but out of eagerness;
But there were false prophets also
among the people, even as there shall be false teachers
among you, who
privily shall bring in
damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
Now there were also false prophets
among the people, just as there will be false teachers
among you. They will secretly introduce destructive
heresies, even denying the Master who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves.
And
spared not the old world, but saved
Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
if He did not
spare the ancient world when He brought the flood on its ungodly people, but preserved
Noah, a preacher of righteousness,
among the eight;
(For that righteous man dwelling
among them, in seeing and hearing,
vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)
(for that righteous man, living
among them day after day, was
tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)—
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only
begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
This is how God’s love was revealed among us: God sent His one and only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him.
Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
In this way, love has been perfected among us, so that we may have confidence on the day of judgment; for in this world we are just like Him.
I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.
I have written to the church about this, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will not accept our instruction.
For there are certain men
crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this
condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into
lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
For certain men have
crept in
among you unnoticed—ungodly ones who were designated long ago for
condemnation. They turn the grace of our God into a
license for immorality, and they deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
