And the sons of Jacob came out of the field when they heard it: and the men were
grieved, and they were very
wroth, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob’s daughter; which thing ought not to be done.
When Jacob’s sons heard what had happened, they returned from the field. They were filled with grief and
fury, because
Shechem had
committed an
outrage in Israel by lying with Jacob’s daughter—a thing that should not be done.
But he refused, and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master
wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath
committed all that he hath to my hand;
But he refused. “Look,” he said to his master’s wife, “with me here, my master does not
concern himself with anything in his house, and he has entrusted everything he owns to my care.
And the keeper of the prison
committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and
whatsoever they did there, he was the
doer of it.
And the
warden put all the prisoners under Joseph’s care, so that he was responsible for all that was done in the prison.
And it came to pass on the
morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have
sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the LORD;
peradventure I shall make an
atonement for your sin.
The next day Moses said to the people, “You have
committed a great sin. Now I will go up to the LORD; perhaps I can make
atonement for your sin.”
And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have
sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.
So Moses returned to the LORD and said, “Oh, what a great sin these people have committed! They have made gods of gold for themselves.
If the priest that is
anointed do sin according to the sin of the people; then let him bring for his sin, which he hath
sinned, a young
bullock without
blemish unto the LORD for a sin offering.
If the
anointed priest sins, bringing guilt on the people, he must bring to the LORD a young bull without
blemish as a sin offering for the sin he has
committed.
When the sin, which they have
sinned against it, is known, then the congregation shall offer a young
bullock for the sin, and bring him before the tabernacle of the congregation.
when they become aware of the sin they have committed, then the assembly must bring a young bull as a sin offering and present it before the Tent of Meeting.
Or if his sin, wherein he hath
sinned, come to his knowledge; he shall bring his offering, a
kid of the goats, a male without
blemish:
When he becomes aware of the sin he has
committed, he must bring an
unblemished male goat as his offering.
Or if his sin, which he hath
sinned, come to his knowledge: then he shall bring his offering, a
kid of the goats, a female without
blemish, for his sin which he hath
sinned.
When he becomes aware of the sin he has
committed, he must bring an
unblemished female goat as his offering for that sin.
And he shall take away all the fat thereof, as the fat of the lamb is taken away from the sacrifice of the peace offerings; and the priest shall burn them upon the altar, according to the offerings made by fire unto the LORD: and the priest shall make an
atonement for his sin that he hath
committed, and it shall be
forgiven him.
And he shall remove all the fat, just as the fat of the lamb is removed from the peace offerings, and he shall burn it on the altar along with the offerings made by fire to the LORD. In this way the priest will make
atonement for him for the sin he has
committed, and he will be
forgiven.
And it shall be, when he shall be guilty in one of these things, that he shall
confess that he hath
sinned in that thing:
If someone incurs guilt in one of these ways, he must
confess the sin he has
committed,
And he shall bring his
trespass offering unto the LORD for his sin which he hath
sinned, a female from the flock, a lamb or a
kid of the goats, for a sin offering; and the priest shall make an
atonement for him concerning his sin.
and he must bring his guilt offering to the LORD for the sin he has
committed: a female lamb or goat from the flock as a sin offering. And the priest will make
atonement for him concerning his sin.
And if he be not able to bring a lamb, then he shall bring for his
trespass, which he hath
committed, two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, unto the LORD; one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering.
If, however, he cannot afford a lamb, he may bring to the LORD as
restitution for his sin two turtledoves or two young pigeons—one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering.
And he shall offer the second for a burnt offering, according to the manner: and the priest shall make an
atonement for him for his sin which he hath
sinned, and it shall be
forgiven him.
And the priest must prepare the second bird as a burnt offering according to the
ordinance. In this way the priest will make
atonement for him for the sin he has
committed, and he will be
forgiven.
And the priest shall make an
atonement for him as touching his sin that he hath
sinned in one of these, and it shall be
forgiven him: and the
remnant shall be the priest’s, as a meat offering.
In this way the priest will make
atonement for him for any of these sins he has
committed, and he will be
forgiven. The remainder will belong to the priest, like the grain offering.”
If a soul
commit a
trespass, and sin through ignorance, in the holy things of the LORD; then he shall bring for his
trespass unto the LORD a ram without
blemish out of the flocks, with thy
estimation by shekels of silver, after the
shekel of the sanctuary, for a
trespass offering:
“If someone acts unfaithfully and sins
unintentionally against any of the LORD’s holy things, he must bring his guilt offering to the LORD: an
unblemished ram from the flock, of proper value in silver shekels according to the sanctuary
shekel; it is a guilt offering.
And if a soul sin, and
commit any of these things which are forbidden to be done by the commandments of the LORD; though he
wist it not, yet is he guilty, and shall bear his iniquity.
If someone sins and
violates any of the LORD’s commandments even though he was unaware, he is guilty and shall bear his punishment.
And he shall bring a ram without
blemish out of the flock, with thy
estimation, for a
trespass offering, unto the priest: and the priest shall make an
atonement for him concerning his ignorance wherein he
erred and
wist it not, and it shall be
forgiven him.
He is to bring to the priest an
unblemished ram of proper value from the flock as a guilt offering. Then the priest will make
atonement on his behalf for the wrong he has
committed in ignorance, and he will be
forgiven.
If a soul sin, and
commit a
trespass against the LORD, and lie unto his neighbour in that which was delivered him to keep, or in
fellowship, or in a thing taken away by violence, or hath
deceived his neighbour;
“If someone sins and acts unfaithfully against the LORD by
deceiving his
neighbor in regard to a deposit or security entrusted to him or
stolen, or if he extorts his
neighbor Or have found that which was lost, and lieth concerning it, and sweareth falsely; in any of all these that a man doeth,
sinning therein:
or finds lost property and lies about it and swears falsely, or if he commits any such sin that a man might commit—
Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you:
But you are to keep My statutes and ordinances, and you must not commit any of these abominations—neither your native-born nor the foreigner who lives among you.
(For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is
defiled;)
For the men who were in the land before you
committed all these abominations, and the land has become
defiled.
For
whosoever shall
commit any of these abominations, even the souls that
commit them shall be cut off from among their people.
Therefore
anyone who
commits any of these abominations must be cut off from among his people.
Therefore shall ye keep mine
ordinance, that ye
commit not any one of these
abominable customs, which were
committed before you, and that ye
defile not
yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God.
You must keep My charge not to practice any of the
abominable customs that were practiced before you, so that you do not
defile yourselves by them. I am the LORD your God.”
And the priest shall make an
atonement for him with the ram of the
trespass offering before the LORD for his sin which he hath done: and the sin which he hath done shall be
forgiven him.
The priest shall make
atonement on his behalf before the LORD with the ram of the guilt offering for the sin he has
committed, and he will be
forgiven the sin he has
committed.
Then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and will cut him off, and all that go a
whoring after him, to
commit whoredom with
Molech, from among their people.
then I will set My face against that man and his family and cut off from among their people both him and all who follow him in
prostituting themselves with
Molech.
And the man that
committeth adultery with another man’s wife, even he that
committeth adultery with his neighbour’s wife, the
adulterer and the
adulteress shall surely be put to death.
If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have
committed an
abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
If a man lies with a man as with a woman, they have both
committed an
abomination. They must surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.
And ye shall not walk in the manners of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they
committed all these things, and therefore I
abhorred them.
You must not follow the statutes of the nations I am driving out before you. Because they did all these things, I
abhorred them.
Speak unto the children of Israel, When a man or woman shall
commit any sin that men
commit, to do a
trespass against the LORD, and that person be guilty;
“Tell the Israelites that when a man or woman acts unfaithfully against the LORD by
committing any sin against another, that person is guilty
Then they shall
confess their sin which they have done: and he shall
recompense his
trespass with the principal thereof, and add unto it the fifth part thereof, and give it unto him against whom he hath
trespassed.
and must
confess the sin he has
committed. He must make full
restitution, add a fifth to its value, and give all this to the one he has wronged.
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man’s wife go aside, and
commit a
trespass against him,
“Speak to the Israelites and tell them that if any man’s wife goes
astray and is unfaithful to him
And Aaron said unto Moses,
Alas, my lord, I
beseech thee, lay not the sin upon us, wherein we have done
foolishly, and wherein we have
sinned.
and said to Moses, “My lord, please do not hold against us this sin we have so
foolishly committed.
Then it shall be, if ought be
committed by ignorance without the knowledge of the congregation, that all the congregation shall offer one young
bullock for a burnt offering, for a sweet savour unto the LORD, with his meat offering, and his drink offering, according to the manner, and one
kid of the goats for a sin offering.
and if it was done
unintentionally without the knowledge of the congregation, then the whole congregation is to prepare one young bull as a burnt offering, a pleasing
aroma to the LORD, with its grain offering and drink offering according to the regulation, and one male goat as a sin offering.
And Israel abode in
Shittim, and the people began to
commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.
While Israel was staying in
Shittim, the men began to
indulge in sexual immorality with the daughters of Moab,
Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of
Balaam, to
commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.
“Look, these women caused the sons of Israel, through the counsel of
Balaam, to turn unfaithfully against the LORD at Peor, so that the plague struck the congregation of the LORD.
And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which ye
sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to
provoke him to anger.
Then I fell down before the LORD for forty days and forty nights, as I had done the first time. I did not eat bread or drink water because of all the sin you had
committed in doing what was evil in the sight of the LORD and
provoking Him to anger.
Then shalt thou
enquire, and make search, and ask
diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such
abomination is wrought among you;
Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.
you must bring out to your gates the man or woman who has done this evil thing, and you must stone that person to death.
One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.
A
lone witness is not sufficient to establish any
wrongdoing or sin against a man, regardless of what
offense he may have
committed. A matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.
And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.
Then the rest of the people will hear and be afraid, and they will never again do anything so evil among you.
And if a man have
committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou
hang him on a tree:
If a man has
committed a sin worthy of death, and he is executed, and you
hang his body on a tree,
Then they shall bring out the
damsel to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the
whore in her father’s house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you.
she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house, and there the men of her city will stone her to death. For she has
committed an
outrage in Israel by being
promiscuous in her father’s house. So you must
purge the evil from among you.
But unto the
damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the
damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so is this matter:
Do nothing to the young woman, because she has
committed no sin worthy of death. This case is just like one in which a man attacks his
neighbor and murders him.
The LORD shall send upon thee
cursing,
vexation, and
rebuke, in all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast
forsaken me.
The LORD will send curses upon you, confusion and reproof in all to which you put your hand, until you are destroyed and quickly perish because of the wickedness you have
committed in
forsaking Him.
But the children of Israel
committed a
trespass in the
accursed thing: for
Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the
accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was
kindled against the children of Israel.
The Israelites, however, acted unfaithfully regarding the things devoted to destruction.
Achan son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of what was set apart. So the anger of the LORD burned against the Israelites.
And it shall be, that he that is taken with the
accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath
transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.
The one who is caught with the things devoted to destruction must be burned, along with all that belongs to him, because he has
transgressed the covenant of the LORD and
committed an
outrage in Israel.’”
Thus saith the whole congregation of the LORD, What
trespass is this that ye have
committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following the LORD, in that ye have builded you an altar, that ye might
rebel this day against the LORD?
“This is what the whole congregation of the LORD says: ‘What is this breach of faith you have
committed today against the God of Israel by turning away from the LORD and building for
yourselves an altar, that you might
rebel against the LORD this day?
Did not
Achan the son of Zerah
commit a
trespass in the
accursed thing, and wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel? and that man perished not alone in his iniquity.
Was not
Achan son of Zerah unfaithful regarding what was set apart for destruction, bringing wrath upon the whole congregation of Israel? Yet it was not only
Achan who perished because of his sin!’”
And
Phinehas the son of
Eleazar the priest said unto the children of
Reuben, and to the children of
Gad, and to the children of
Manasseh, This day we perceive that the LORD is among us, because ye have not
committed this
trespass against the LORD: now ye have delivered the children of Israel out of the hand of the LORD.
Phinehas son of
Eleazar the priest said to the descendants of
Reuben,
Gad, and
Manasseh, “
Today we know that the LORD is among us, because you have not
committed this breach of faith against Him. Consequently, you have delivered the Israelites from the hand of the LORD.”
And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, and said unto them,
Nay, my brethren,
nay, I pray you, do not so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly.
The owner of the house went out and said to them, “No, my brothers, do not do this wicked thing! After all, this man is a
guest in my house. Do not
commit this
outrage.
And I took my
concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel: for they have
committed lewdness and folly in Israel.
Then I took my
concubine, cut her into pieces, and sent her throughout the land of Israel’s inheritance, because they had
committed a
lewd and disgraceful act in Israel.
And we will take ten men of an hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and an hundred of a thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to
fetch victual for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that they have wrought in Israel.
We will take ten men out of every hundred from all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred out of every thousand, and a thousand out of every ten thousand, to supply provisions for the army when they go to Gibeah in Benjamin to
punish them for the
atrocity they have
committed in Israel.”
Is it not wheat harvest to day? I will call unto the LORD, and he shall send
thunder and rain; that ye may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking you a king.
Is it not the wheat harvest
today? I will call on the LORD to send
thunder and rain, so that you will know and see what a great evil you have
committed in the sight of the LORD by asking for a king.”
And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart;
“Do not be afraid,” Samuel replied. “Even though you have committed all this evil, do not turn aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart.
Then said Saul, I have
sinned: return, my son David: for I will no more do thee
harm, because my soul was precious in thine eyes this day: behold, I have played the
fool, and have
erred exceedingly.
Then Saul replied, “I have
sinned. Come back, David my son. I will never
harm you again, because
today you considered my life precious. I have played the
fool and have
committed a grave error!”
I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he
commit iniquity, I will
chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:
I will be his Father, and he will be My son. When he does wrong, I will discipline him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men.
and when they come to their senses in the land to which they were taken, and they
repent and
plead with You in the land of their captors, saying, ‘We have
sinned and done wrong; we have acted wickedly,’
May You
forgive Your people who have
sinned against You and all the transgressions they have
committed against You, and may You grant them
compassion in the eyes of their captors to show them mercy.
And he shall give Israel up because of the sins of
Jeroboam, who did sin, and who made Israel to sin.
So He will give Israel over on account of the sins
Jeroboam has
committed and has caused Israel to
commit.”
And Judah did evil in the sight of the LORD, and they
provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had
committed, above all that their fathers had done.
And Judah did evil in the sight of the LORD, and by the sins they
committed they
provoked Him to
jealous anger more than all their fathers had done.
And king
Rehoboam made in their
stead brasen shields, and
committed them unto the hands of the chief of the guard, which kept the door of the king’s house.
Then King
Rehoboam made bronze shields in their place and
committed them to the care of the captains of the guard on duty at the entrance to the royal palace.
And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father.
And Abijam walked in all the sins that his father before him had
committed, and his heart was not as fully devoted to the LORD his God as the heart of David his
forefather had been.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin
wherewith he made Israel to sin.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD and walked in the way of his father and in his sin, which he had caused Israel to commit.
because of the sins
Jeroboam had
committed and had caused Israel to
commit, and because he had
provoked the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of
Jeroboam, and in his sin
wherewith he made Israel to sin.
And
Baasha did evil in the sight of the LORD and walked in the way of
Jeroboam and in his sin, which he had caused Israel to
commit.
For all the sins of
Baasha, and the sins of Elah his son, by which they
sinned, and by which they made Israel to sin, in
provoking the LORD God of Israel to anger with their
vanities.
This happened because of all the sins
Baasha and his son Elah had
committed and had caused Israel to
commit,
provoking the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger with their worthless idols.
For his sins which he
sinned in doing evil in the sight of the LORD, in walking in the way of
Jeroboam, and in his sin which he did, to make Israel to sin.
because of the sins he had
committed, doing evil in the sight of the LORD and following the example of
Jeroboam and the sin he had
committed and had caused Israel to
commit.
Now the rest of the acts of Zimri, and his treason that he wrought, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
As for the rest of the acts of Zimri and the treason he committed, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
For he walked in all the way of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and in his sin
wherewith he made Israel to sin, to
provoke the LORD God of Israel to anger with their
vanities.
For he walked in all the ways of
Jeroboam son of Nebat and in his sins, which he caused Israel to
commit,
provoking the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger with their worthless idols.
And he did very
abominably in following idols, according to all things as did the
Amorites, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.
He
committed the most
detestable acts by going after idols, just like the
Amorites whom the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.)
Nevertheless he
cleaved unto the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not
therefrom.
Nevertheless, he
clung to the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to
commit; he did not turn away from them.
Howbeit from the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin,
Jehu departed not from after them, to wit, the golden
calves that were in
Bethel, and that were in
Dan.
but he did not turn away from the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to
commit—the worship of the golden
calves at
Bethel and
Dan.
But
Jehu took no
heed to walk in the law of the LORD God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of
Jeroboam, which made Israel to sin.
Yet
Jehu was not careful to follow the instruction of the LORD, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He did not turn away from the sins that
Jeroboam had caused Israel to
commit.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and followed the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not
therefrom.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD and followed the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to
commit; he did not turn away from them.
Nevertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of
Jeroboam, who made Israel sin, but walked therein: and there remained the
grove also in Samaria.)
Nevertheless, they did not turn away from the sins that the house of
Jeroboam had caused Israel to
commit, but they continued to walk in them. The Asherah pole even remained standing in Samaria.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD; he departed not from all the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin: but he walked therein.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD and did not turn away from all the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to
commit, but he walked in them.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from all the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD and did not turn away from all the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to
commit.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as his fathers had done: he departed not from the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, as his fathers had done. He did not turn away from the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to
commit.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not all his days from the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and throughout his reign he did not turn away from the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to
commit.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD and did not turn away from the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to
commit.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD and did not turn away from the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to
commit.
For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made
Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and
Jeroboam drave Israel from following the LORD, and made them sin a great sin.
When the LORD had
torn Israel away from the house of David, they made
Jeroboam son of Nebat king, and
Jeroboam led Israel away from following the LORD and caused them to
commit a great sin.
For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of
Jeroboam which he did; they departed not from them;
The Israelites
persisted in all the sins that
Jeroboam had
committed and did not turn away from them.
Because
Manasseh king of Judah hath done these abominations, and hath done wickedly above all that the
Amorites did, which were before him, and hath made Judah also to sin with his idols:
“Since
Manasseh king of Judah has
committed all these abominations, acting more wickedly than the
Amorites who preceded him, and with his idols has caused Judah to sin,
Moreover
Manasseh shed innocent blood very much, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another; beside his sin
wherewith he made Judah to sin, in doing that which was evil in the sight of the LORD.
Moreover,
Manasseh shed so much innocent blood that he filled Jerusalem from end to end, in addition to the sin that he had caused Judah to
commit, doing evil in the sight of the LORD.
Now the rest of the acts of
Manasseh, and all that he did, and his sin that he
sinned, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
As for the rest of the acts of
Manasseh, along with all his accomplishments and the sin that he
committed, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
So Saul died for his
transgression which he
committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to
enquire of it;
So Saul died for his unfaithfulness to the LORD, because he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance,
Then on that day David delivered first this
psalm to
thank the LORD into the hand of
Asaph and his brethren.
On that day David first
committed to
Asaph and his brothers this song of
thanksgiving to the LORD:
Instead of which king
Rehoboam made shields of brass, and
committed them to the hands of the chief of the guard, that kept the entrance of the king’s house.
Then King
Rehoboam made bronze shields in their place and
committed them to the care of the captains of the guard on duty at the entrance to the royal palace.
Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to
commit fornication, and compelled Judah
thereto.
Jehoram had also built high places on the hills of Judah; he had caused the people of Jerusalem to
prostitute themselves and had led Judah
astray.
And Shaphan carried the book to the king, and brought the king word back again, saying, All that was committed to thy servants, they do it.
Then Shaphan brought the book to the king and reported, “Your servants are doing all that has been placed in their hands.
Now the rest of the acts of
Jehoiakim, and his abominations which he did, and that which was found in him, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah: and
Jehoiachin his son reigned in his
stead.
As for the rest of the acts of
Jehoiakim, the abominations he
committed, and all that was found against him, they are indeed written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah. And his son
Jehoiachin reigned in his place.
Should we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the people of these abominations? wouldest not thou be
angry with us till thou hadst consumed us, so that there should be no
remnant nor escaping?
shall we again break Your commandments and
intermarry with the peoples who
commit these abominations? Would You not become so
angry with us as to
wipe us out, leaving no
remnant or
survivor?
Let thine ear now be
attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and
confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have
sinned against thee: both I and my father’s house have
sinned.
let Your eyes be open and Your ears
attentive to hear the prayer that I, Your servant, now pray before You day and night for Your servants, the Israelites. I
confess the sins that we Israelites have
committed against You. Both I and my father’s house have
sinned.
Yea, when they had made them a
molten calf, and said, This is thy God that brought thee up out of Egypt, and had wrought great provocations;
Even when they cast for themselves an image of a
calf and said, ‘This is your God who brought you up out of Egypt,’ and when they
committed terrible blasphemies,
Nevertheless they were
disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and
slew thy prophets which
testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations.
But they were
disobedient and rebelled against You; they
flung Your law behind their backs. They killed Your prophets, who had
admonished them to return to You. They
committed terrible blasphemies.
They
clave to their brethren, their nobles, and entered into a
curse, and into an oath, to walk in God’s law, which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of the LORD our Lord, and his judgments and his statutes;
hereby join with their noble brothers and
commit themselves with a
sworn oath to follow the Law of God given through His servant Moses and to carefully obey all the commandments, ordinances, and statutes of the LORD our Lord.
