And he said, What
pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy
signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that is in thine hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.
“What
pledge should I give you?” he asked. She answered, “Your seal and your
cord, and the staff in your hand.” So he gave them to her and
slept with her, and she became
pregnant by him.
When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said,
Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the
signet, and bracelets, and staff.
As she was being brought out, Tamar sent a message to her father-in-law: “I am
pregnant by the man to whom these items belong.” And she added, “Please examine them. Whose seal and
cord and staff are these?”

wreathen work shalt thou make them, and
fasten the

attach these chains to the settings.
For the breastpiece, make
braided chains like
cords of pure gold.

tied to the rings of the
ephod with a
cord of blue yarn, so that the breastpiece is above the
waistband of the
ephod and does not
swing out from the
ephod.
And thou shalt put it on a blue lace, that it may be upon the
mitre; upon the
forefront of the
mitre it shall be.
Fasten to it a blue
cord to mount it on the
turban; it shall be on the front of the
turban.

And they did bind the
breastplate by his rings unto the rings of the
ephod with a lace of blue, that it might be above the curious
girdle of the
ephod, and that the
breastplate might not be loosed from the
ephod; as the LORD commanded Moses.
Then they
tied the rings of the breastpiece to the rings of the
ephod with a
cord of blue yarn, so that the breastpiece was above the
waistband of the
ephod and would not
swing out from the
ephod, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
And they
tied unto it a lace of blue, to
fasten it on high upon the
mitre; as the LORD commanded Moses.
Then they fastened to it a blue
cord to mount it on the
turban, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.

Speak unto the children of Israel, and
bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the
fringe of the borders a
ribband of blue:
“Speak to the Israelites and tell them that throughout the generations to come they are to make for themselves tassels for the corners of their garments, with a blue
cord on each
tassel.
Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.
Then
Rahab let them down by a rope through the window, since the house where she lived was built into the wall of the city.
Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou
didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father’s household, home unto thee.
unless, when we enter the land, you have
tied this scarlet
cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you have brought your father and mother and brothers and all your family into your house.
And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.
“Let it be as you say,” she replied, and she sent them away. And when they had gone, she
tied the scarlet
cord in the window.
And they spake unto him, saying, No; but we will bind thee fast, and deliver thee into their hand: but surely we will not kill thee. And they bound him with two new cords, and brought him up from the rock.
“No,” they answered, “we will not kill you, but we will
tie you up securely and hand you over to them.” So they bound him with two new ropes and led him up from the rock.
And when he came unto Lehi, the Philistines
shouted against him: and the Spirit of the LORD came
mightily upon him, and the
cords that were upon his arms became as flax that was burnt with fire, and his bands loosed from off his hands.
When
Samson arrived in Lehi, the Philistines came out
shouting against him. And the Spirit of the LORD came
mightily upon him. The ropes on his arms became like burnt flax, and the bonds broke loose from his hands.
And he
smote Moab, and measured them with a line, casting them down to the ground; even with two lines measured he to put to death, and with one full line to keep alive. And so the Moabites became David’s servants, and brought gifts.
David also defeated the Moabites, made them lie down on the ground, and measured them off with a
cord. He measured off with two lengths those to be put to death, and with one length those to be
spared. So the Moabites became subject to David and brought him tribute.
The sorrows of
hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me;
Where were white, green, and blue, hangings, fastened with
cords of fine linen and purple to silver rings and pillars of marble: the beds were of gold and silver, upon a
pavement of red, and blue, and white, and black, marble.
Hangings of white and blue linen were fastened with
cords of fine white and purple material to silver rings on the marble pillars. Gold and silver couches were arranged on a mosaic
pavement of
porphyry, marble, mother-of-
pearl, and other costly stones.
Doth not their
excellency which is in them go away? they die, even without wisdom.
Are not their tent cords pulled up, so that they die without wisdom?’
Because he hath loosed my
cord, and
afflicted me, they have also let loose the
bridle before me.
Because God has unstrung my bow and
afflicted me, they have cast off restraint in my presence.
And if men are bound with chains, caught in
cords of
affliction,
Canst thou draw out
leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a
cord which thou lettest down?
“Can you pull in
Leviathan with a hook or
tie down his tongue with a rope?
Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a
thorn?
Can you put a
cord through his nose or
pierce his jaw with a hook?
Let us break their bands
asunder, and cast away their
cords from us.
“Let us break Their chains and cast away Their cords.”
The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.
The sorrows of
hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me.
God is the LORD, which hath shewed us light: bind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar.
The LORD is God; He has made His light to
shine upon us. Bind the
festal sacrifice with
cords to the horns of the altar.
The LORD is righteous: he hath cut
asunder the
cords of the wicked.
The LORD is righteous; He has cut me from the cords of the wicked.
The proud have
hid a
snare for me, and
cords; they have spread a net by the
wayside; they have set gins for me.
Selah.
The proud hide a
snare for me; the
cords of their net are spread along the path, and lures are set out for me.
Selah His own
iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be
holden with the
cords of his sins.
And if one prevail against him, two shall
withstand him; and a
threefold cord is not quickly broken.
And though one may be overpowered, two can resist. Moreover, a cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
Or ever the silver
cord be loosed, or the golden
bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the
cistern.
Remember Him before the silver
cord is
snapped and the golden
bowl is
crushed, before the pitcher is
shattered at the spring and the wheel is broken at the well,
Woe unto them that draw iniquity with
cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a
cart rope:
Woe to those who draw iniquity with
cords of
deceit and pull sin along with
cart ropes,
Look upon
Zion, the city of our
solemnities: thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet
habitation, a tabernacle that shall not be taken down; not one of the stakes thereof shall ever be removed, neither shall any of the
cords thereof be broken.
Look upon
Zion, the city of our appointed feasts. Your eyes will see Jerusalem, a peaceful pasture, a tent that does not
wander; its tent pegs will not be pulled up, nor will any of its
cords be broken.
Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations:
spare not,
lengthen thy
cords, and
strengthen thy stakes;
“
Enlarge the site of your tent, stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, do not hold back.
Lengthen your ropes and drive your stakes in deep.
Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to
undo the heavy burdens, and to let the
oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
Isn’t this the fast that I have chosen: to break the chains of wickedness, to
untie the
cords of the yoke, to set the
oppressed free and
tear off every yoke?
My tabernacle is
spoiled, and all my
cords are broken: my children are gone forth of me, and they are not: there is none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.
My tent is destroyed, and all its ropes are
snapped. My sons have departed from me and are no more. I have no one left to pitch my tent or set up my curtains.
Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the
dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: and they let down Jeremiah with
cords. And in the
dungeon there was no water, but
mire: so Jeremiah sunk in the
mire.
So they took Jeremiah and dropped him into the
cistern of Malchiah, the king’s son, which was in the
courtyard of the guard. They lowered Jeremiah with ropes into the
cistern, which had no water but only mud, and Jeremiah
sank down into the mud.
So Ebed-melech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took thence old cast clouts and old
rotten rags, and let them down by
cords into the
dungeon to Jeremiah.
Then Ebed-melech took the men with him and went to the king’s palace, to a place below the
storehouse. From there he took old rags and worn-out clothes and lowered them with ropes to Jeremiah in the
cistern.
And Ebed-melech the
Ethiopian said unto Jeremiah, Put now these old cast clouts and
rotten rags under thine armholes under the
cords. And Jeremiah did so.
Ebed-melech the
Cushite cried out to Jeremiah, “Put these worn-out rags and clothes under your arms to
pad the ropes.” Jeremiah did so,
So they drew up Jeremiah with
cords, and took him up out of the
dungeon: and Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
and they pulled him up with the ropes and lifted him out of the
cistern. And Jeremiah remained in the
courtyard of the guard.
On the day of your birth your
cord was not cut, nor were you washed with water for
cleansing. You were not
rubbed with salt or
wrapped in cloths.
These were thy merchants in all sorts of things, in blue clothes, and
broidered work, and in chests of rich
apparel, bound with
cords, and made of
cedar, among thy
merchandise.
In your marketplace they traded with you fine garments of blue,
embroidered work, and multicolored rugs with
cords tightly twisted and
knotted.
And he brought me thither, and, behold, there was a man, whose appearance was like the appearance of brass, with a line of flax in his hand, and a measuring reed; and he stood in the gate.
So He took me there, and I saw a man whose appearance was like bronze. He was standing in the
gateway with a linen
cord and a measuring rod in his hand.
I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love: and I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws, and I laid meat unto them.
I led them with cords of kindness, with ropes of love; I lifted the yoke from their necks and bent down to feed them.
Therefore thou shalt have none that shall cast a cord by lot in the congregation of the LORD.
Therefore, you will have no one in the assembly of the LORD to divide the land by lot.
And when he had made a
scourge of small
cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables;
So He made a
whip out of
cords and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle. He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.
The women also with
cords about them, sitting in the ways, burn
bran for
perfume: but if any of them, drawn by some that passeth by, lie with him, she reproacheth her fellow, that she was not thought as worthy as herself, nor her
cord broken.
