quail from the sea, and brought them near the camp, about two
cubits above the surface of the ground, for a day’s journey in every direction around the camp.

For only
Og king of
Bashan remained of the
remnant of giants; behold, his
bedstead was a
bedstead of iron; is it not in
Rabbath of the children of
Ammon? nine
cubits was the length thereof, and four
cubits the breadth of it, after the
cubit of a man.
(For only
Og king of
Bashan had remained of the
remnant of the
Rephaim. His bed of iron, nine
cubits long and four
cubits wide, is still in Rabbah of the
Ammonites.)
Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand
cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way
heretofore.
But keep a distance of about two thousand
cubits between
yourselves and the ark. Do not go near it, so that you can see the way to go, since you have never traveled this way before.”

For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father and his men, that they be mighty men, and they be
chafed in their minds, as a bear
robbed of her whelps in the field: and thy father is a man of war, and will not
lodge with the people.
He continued, “You know your father and his men. They are mighty men, and as fierce as a wild bear
robbed of her
cubs. Moreover, your father is a man of war who will not
spend the night with the troops.
And the house which king Solomon built for the LORD, the length thereof was
threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty
cubits, and the height thereof thirty
cubits.
The house that King Solomon built for the LORD was sixty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and thirty cubits high.
And the
porch before the temple of the house, twenty
cubits was the length thereof, according to the breadth of the house; and ten
cubits was the breadth thereof before the house.
The
portico at the front of the main hall of the temple was twenty
cubits long, extending across the width of the temple and projecting out ten
cubits in front of the temple.
The
nethermost chamber was five
cubits broad, and the middle was six
cubits broad, and the third was seven
cubits broad: for without in the wall of the house he made narrowed rests round about, that the beams should not be fastened in the walls of the house.
The bottom floor was five
cubits wide, the middle floor six
cubits, and the third floor seven
cubits. He also placed
offset ledges around the outside of the temple, so that nothing would be inserted into its walls.
And then he built chambers against all the house, five
cubits high: and they rested on the house with timber of
cedar.
He built chambers all along the temple, each five
cubits high and attached to the temple with beams of
cedar.
And he built twenty
cubits on the sides of the house, both the floor and the walls with boards of
cedar: he even built them for it within, even for the
oracle, even for the most holy place.
He partitioned off the twenty
cubits at the rear of the temple with
cedar boards from floor to
ceiling to form within the temple an inner sanctuary, the Most Holy Place.
And the house, that is, the temple before it, was forty cubits long.
And the main hall in front of this room was forty cubits long.
And the
oracle in the
forepart was twenty
cubits in length, and twenty
cubits in breadth, and twenty
cubits in the height thereof: and he overlaid it with pure gold; and so covered the altar which was of
cedar.
The inner sanctuary was twenty
cubits long, twenty
cubits wide, and twenty
cubits high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold, and he also overlaid the altar of
cedar.
And within the
oracle he made two cherubims of olive tree, each ten
cubits high.
In the inner sanctuary he made two
cherubim, each ten
cubits high, out of olive wood.
And five
cubits was the one wing of the
cherub, and five
cubits the other wing of the
cherub: from the
uttermost part of the one wing unto the
uttermost part of the other were ten
cubits.
One wing of the first
cherub was five
cubits long, and the other wing was five
cubits long as well. So the full wingspan was ten
cubits.
And the other
cherub was ten
cubits: both the cherubims were of one measure and one size.
The second
cherub also measured ten
cubits; both
cherubim had the same size and shape,
The height of the one
cherub was ten
cubits, and so was it of the other
cherub.
and the height of each
cherub was ten
cubits.
He built also the house of the forest of
Lebanon; the length thereof was an hundred
cubits, and the breadth thereof fifty
cubits, and the height thereof thirty
cubits, upon four rows of
cedar pillars, with
cedar beams upon the pillars.
He built the House of the Forest of
Lebanon a hundred
cubits long, fifty
cubits wide, and thirty
cubits high, with four rows of
cedar pillars supporting the
cedar beams.
And he made a
porch of pillars; the length thereof was fifty
cubits, and the breadth thereof thirty
cubits: and the
porch was before them: and the other pillars and the thick beam were before them.
Solomon made his
colonnade fifty
cubits long and thirty
cubits wide, with a
portico in front of it and a
canopy with pillars in front of the
portico.
And the foundation was of costly stones, even great stones, stones of ten cubits, and stones of eight cubits.
The foundations were laid with large, costly stones, some ten cubits long and some eight cubits long.
For he cast two pillars of brass, of eighteen
cubits high
apiece: and a line of twelve
cubits did compass either of them about.
He cast two pillars of bronze, each eighteen cubits high and twelve cubits in circumference.
And he made two chapiters of
molten brass, to set upon the tops of the pillars: the height of the one
chapiter was five
cubits, and the height of the other
chapiter was five
cubits:
He also made two capitals of cast bronze to set on top of the pillars, each capital five cubits high.
And the chapiters that were upon the top of the pillars were of
lily work in the
porch, four
cubits.
And the capitals
atop the pillars in the
portico were shaped like
lilies, four
cubits high.
And he made a
molten sea, ten
cubits from the one
brim to the other: it was round all about, and his height was five
cubits: and a line of thirty
cubits did compass it round about.
He also made the Sea of cast metal. It was circular in shape, measuring ten
cubits from
rim to
rim, five
cubits in height, and thirty
cubits in circumference.
And under the
brim of it round about there were knops compassing it, ten in a
cubit, compassing the sea round about: the knops were cast in two rows, when it was cast.
Below the
rim, ornamental buds
encircled it, ten per
cubit all the way around the Sea, cast in two rows as a part of the Sea.
And he made ten bases of brass; four cubits was the length of one base, and four cubits the breadth thereof, and three cubits the height of it.
In addition, he made ten movable stands of bronze, each four cubits long, four cubits wide, and three cubits high.
And the mouth of it within the
chapiter and above was a
cubit: but the mouth thereof was round after the work of the base, a
cubit and an half: and also upon the mouth of it were gravings with their borders,
foursquare, not round.
The opening to each stand inside the crown at the top was one
cubit deep, with a round opening like the design of a
pedestal, a
cubit and a half wide. And around its opening were engravings, but the panels of the stands were square, not round.
And under the borders were four wheels; and the axletrees of the wheels were joined to the base: and the height of a wheel was a
cubit and a half a
cubit.
There were four wheels under the panels, and the axles of the wheels were attached to the stand; each wheel was a
cubit and a half in diameter.
And in the top of the base was there a round compass of half a
cubit high: and on the top of the base the ledges thereof and the borders thereof were of the same.
At the top of each stand was a circular band half a
cubit high. The supports and panels were cast as a unit with the top of the stand.
Then made he ten lavers of brass: one
laver contained forty baths: and every
laver was four
cubits: and upon every one of the ten bases one
laver.
He also made ten bronze basins, each holding forty baths and measuring four cubits across, one basin for each of the ten stands.
And Jehoash king of Israel took
Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of
Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and
brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred
cubits.
There at Beth-shemesh, Jehoash king of Israel captured
Amaziah king of Judah, the son of
Joash, the son of
Ahaziah. Then Jehoash went to Jerusalem and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate—a section of four hundred
cubits.
The height of the one
pillar was eighteen
cubits, and the
chapiter upon it was brass: and the height of the
chapiter three
cubits; and the
wreathen work, and pomegranates upon the
chapiter round about, all of brass: and like unto these had the second
pillar with
wreathen work.
Each
pillar was eighteen
cubits tall. The bronze capital
atop one
pillar was three
cubits high, with a network of bronze pomegranates all around. The second
pillar, with its network, was similar.
And he
slew an Egyptian, a man of great
stature, five
cubits high; and in the Egyptian’s hand was a
spear like a
weaver’s beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and
plucked the
spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and
slew him with his own
spear.
He also killed an Egyptian, a huge man five
cubits tall. Although the Egyptian had a
spear like a
weaver’s beam in his hand, Benaiah went against him with a club,
snatched the
spear from his hand, and killed the Egyptian with his own
spear.
Now these are the things wherein Solomon was
instructed for the building of the house of God. The length by
cubits after the first measure was
threescore cubits, and the breadth twenty
cubits.
The foundation that Solomon laid for the house of God was sixty cubits long and twenty cubits wide, according to the old standard.
And the
porch that was in the front of the house, the length of it was according to the breadth of the house, twenty
cubits, and the height was an hundred and twenty: and he overlaid it within with pure gold.
The
portico at the front, extending across the width of the temple, was twenty
cubits long and twenty
cubits high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold.
And he made the most holy house, the length
whereof was according to the breadth of the house, twenty
cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty
cubits: and he overlaid it with fine gold, amounting to six hundred talents.
Then he made the Most Holy Place; its length corresponded to the width of the temple—twenty cubits long and twenty cubits wide. And he overlaid the inside with six hundred talents of fine gold.
And the wings of the cherubims were twenty
cubits long: one wing of the one
cherub was five
cubits, reaching to the wall of the house: and the other wing was likewise five
cubits, reaching to the wing of the other
cherub.
The total wingspan of the
cherubim was twenty
cubits. One wing of the first
cherub was five
cubits long and touched the wall of the temple, and its other wing was five
cubits long and touched the wing of the other
cherub.
And one wing of the other
cherub was five
cubits, reaching to the wall of the house: and the other wing was five
cubits also, joining to the wing of the other
cherub.
The wing of the second
cherub also measured five
cubits and touched the wall of the temple, while its other wing measured five
cubits and touched the wing of the first
cherub.
The wings of these cherubims spread themselves forth twenty cubits: and they stood on their feet, and their faces were inward.
So the total wingspan of these
cherubim was twenty
cubits. They stood on their feet, facing the main room.
Also he made before the house two pillars of thirty and five
cubits high, and the
chapiter that was on the top of each of them was five
cubits.
In front of the temple he made two pillars, which together were thirty-five cubits high, each with a capital on top measuring five cubits.
Moreover he made an altar of brass, twenty cubits the length thereof, and twenty cubits the breadth thereof, and ten cubits the height thereof.
He made a bronze altar twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and ten cubits high.
Also he made a
molten sea of ten
cubits from
brim to
brim, round in compass, and five
cubits the height thereof; and a line of thirty
cubits did compass it round about.
He also made the Sea of cast metal. It was circular in shape, measuring ten
cubits from
rim to
rim, five
cubits in height, and thirty
cubits in circumference.
And under it was the
similitude of oxen, which did compass it round about: ten in a
cubit, compassing the sea round about. Two rows of oxen were cast, when it was cast.
Below the
rim, figures of oxen
encircled it, ten per
cubit all the way around the Sea, cast in two rows as a part of the Sea.
For Solomon had made a
brasen scaffold, of five
cubits long, and five
cubits broad, and three
cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court: and upon it he stood, and
kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven,
Now Solomon had made a bronze platform five
cubits long, five
cubits wide, and three
cubits high, and had placed it in the middle of the
courtyard. He stood on it,
knelt down before the whole assembly of Israel, spread out his hands toward heaven,
And
Joash the king of Israel took
Amaziah king of Judah, the son of
Joash, the son of
Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and
brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred
cubits.
There at Beth-shemesh, Jehoash king of Israel captured
Amaziah king of Judah, the son of
Joash, the son of
Jehoahaz. Then Jehoash brought him to Jerusalem and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate—a section of four hundred
cubits.
In the first year of Cyrus the king the same Cyrus the king made a decree concerning the house of God at Jerusalem, Let the house be builded, the place where they offered sacrifices, and let the foundations thereof be strongly laid; the height thereof
threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof
threescore cubits;
In the first year of King Cyrus, he issued a decree concerning the house of God in Jerusalem: Let the house be rebuilt as a place for offering sacrifices, and let its foundations be firmly laid. It is to be sixty cubits high and sixty cubits wide,
The valley gate repaired Hanun, and the inhabitants of Zanoah; they built it, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof, and a thousand cubits on the wall unto the dung gate.
The Valley Gate was repaired by Hanun and the residents of Zanoah. They rebuilt it,
installed its doors, bolts, and bars, and repaired a thousand
cubits of the wall as far as the Dung Gate.
His wife Zeresh and all his friends told him, “Have them build a
gallows fifty
cubits high, and ask the king in the morning to have
Mordecai hanged on it. Then go to the
banquet with the king and enjoy
yourself.” The advice pleased
Haman, and he had the
gallows constructed.
And Harbonah, one of the chamberlains, said before the king, Behold also, the
gallows fifty
cubits high, which
Haman had made for
Mordecai, who had spoken good for the king, standeth in the house of
Haman. Then the king said,
Hang him
thereon.
Then Harbonah, one of the eunuchs attending the king, said: “There is a
gallows fifty
cubits high at
Haman’s house. He had it built for
Mordecai, who gave the report that saved the king.” “
Hang him on it!” declared the king.
The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the
stout lion’s whelps are scattered abroad.
The old lion perishes for lack of prey, and the
cubs of the
lioness are scattered.
Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide
Arcturus with his sons?
Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons or lead out the Bear and her cubs?
Let a bear
robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a
fool in his folly.
It is better to meet a bear
robbed of her
cubs than a
fool in his folly.
They shall
roar together like lions: they shall
yell as lions’ whelps.
They will
roar together like young lions; they will
growl like lion
cubs.
And concerning the pillars, the height of one
pillar was eighteen
cubits; and a
fillet of twelve
cubits did compass it; and the thickness thereof was four fingers: it was hollow.
Each
pillar was eighteen
cubits tall and twelve
cubits in circumference; each was hollow, four fingers thick.
And a
chapiter of brass was upon it; and the height of one
chapiter was five
cubits, with network and pomegranates upon the chapiters round about, all of brass. The second
pillar also and the pomegranates were like unto these.
The bronze capital
atop one
pillar was five
cubits high, with a network of bronze pomegranates all around. The second
pillar, with its pomegranates, was similar.
And say, What is thy mother? A
lioness: she lay down among lions, she
nourished her whelps among young lions.
and say: ‘What was your mother? A
lioness among the lions! She lay down among the young lions; she reared her
cubs.
And she brought up one of her whelps: it became a young lion, and it learned to catch the prey; it
devoured men.
She brought up one of her
cubs, and he became a young lion. After learning to
tear his prey, he
devoured men.
Now when she saw that she had waited, and her hope was lost, then she took another of her whelps, and made him a young lion.
When she saw that she had waited in vain, that her hope was lost, she took another of her cubs and made him a young lion.
And behold a wall on the outside of the house round about, and in the man’s hand a measuring reed of six
cubits long by the
cubit and an hand breadth: so he measured the breadth of the building, one reed; and the height, one reed.
And I saw a wall surrounding the temple area. Now the length of the measuring rod in the man’s hand was six long
cubits (each measuring a
cubit and a
handbreadth), and he measured the wall to be one rod thick and one rod high.
And every little chamber was one reed long, and one reed broad; and between the little chambers were five
cubits; and the
threshold of the gate by the
