And it came to pass after these things, that the
butler of the king of Egypt and his
baker had
offended their lord the king of Egypt.
And Pharaoh was
wroth against two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.
And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the
butler and the
baker of the king of Egypt, which were bound in the prison.
both of these men—the Egyptian king’s
cupbearer and
baker, who were being held in the prison—had a dream on the same night, and each dream had its own meaning.
And the chief
butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;
So the chief
cupbearer told Joseph his dream: “In my dream there was a vine before me,
And Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.
Pharaoh’s
cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes,
squeezed them into his
cup, and placed the
cup in his hand.”
Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh’s
cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou
wast his
butler.
Within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore your position. You will put Pharaoh’s
cup in his hand, just as you did when you were his
cupbearer.
And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh’s
birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief
butler and of the chief
baker among his servants.
On the third day, which was Pharaoh’s
birthday, he held a feast for all his officials, and in their presence he lifted up the heads of the chief
cupbearer and the chief
baker.
And he restored the chief
butler unto his
butlership again; and he gave the
cup into Pharaoh’s hand:
Pharaoh restored the chief
cupbearer to his position, so that he once again placed the
cup in Pharaoh’s hand.
Yet did not the chief
butler remember Joseph, but
forgat him.
The chief
cupbearer, however, did not remember Joseph; he
forgot all about him.
Then spake the chief
butler unto Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day:
Then the chief
cupbearer said to Pharaoh, “
Today I recall my failures.
And put my
cup, the silver
cup, in the
sack’s mouth of the youngest, and his corn money. And he did according to the word that Joseph had spoken.
Put my
cup, the silver one, in the mouth of the youngest one’s
sack, along with the silver for his grain.” So the
steward did as Joseph had
instructed.
Is not this it in which my lord drinketh, and whereby indeed he divineth? ye have done evil in so doing.
Is this not the
cup my master drinks from and uses for
divination? What you have done is wicked!’”
And he said, Now also let it be according unto your words; he with whom it is found shall be my servant; and ye shall be
blameless.
“As you say,” replied the
steward. “But only the one who is found with the
cup will be my slave, and the rest of you shall be free of
blame.”
And he searched, and began at the eldest, and left at the youngest: and the
cup was found in Benjamin’s
sack.
The
steward searched, beginning with the oldest and ending with the youngest—and the
cup was found in Benjamin’s
sack.
And Judah said, What shall we say unto my lord? what shall we speak? or how shall we clear ourselves? God hath found out the iniquity of thy servants: behold, we are my lord’s servants, both we, and he also with whom the cup is found.
“What can we say to my lord?” Judah replied. “How can we
plead? How can we
justify ourselves? God has exposed the iniquity of your servants. We are now my lord’s slaves—both we and the one who was found with the
cup.”
And he said, God
forbid that I should do so: but the man in whose hand the
cup is found, he shall be my servant; and as for you, get you up in peace unto your father.
But Joseph replied, “Far be it from me to do this. The man who was found with the cup will be my slave. The rest of you may return to your father in peace.”
And thou shalt make a
candlestick of pure gold: of beaten work shall the
candlestick be made: his shaft, and his branches, his
bowls, his knops, and his flowers, shall be of the same.
Then you are to make a lampstand of pure, hammered gold. It shall be made of one piece, including its base and shaft, its cups, and its buds and petals.
Three
bowls made like unto almonds, with a
knop and a flower in one branch; and three
bowls made like almonds in the other branch, with a
knop and a flower: so in the six branches that come out of the
candlestick.
There are to be three
cups shaped like
almond blossoms on the first branch, each with buds and petals, three on the next branch, and the same for all six branches that extend from the lampstand.
And in the
candlestick shall be four
bowls made like unto almonds, with their knops and their flowers.
And on the lampstand there shall be four
cups shaped like
almond blossoms with buds and petals.
And he made the
candlestick of pure gold: of beaten work made he the
candlestick; his shaft, and his branch, his
bowls, his knops, and his flowers, were of the same:
Then he made the lampstand out of pure hammered gold, all of one piece: its base and shaft, its cups, and its buds and petals.
Three
bowls made after the fashion of almonds in one branch, a
knop and a flower; and three
bowls made like almonds in another branch, a
knop and a flower: so throughout the six branches going out of the
candlestick.
There were three
cups shaped like
almond blossoms on the first branch, each with buds and petals, three on the next branch, and the same for all six branches that extended from the lampstand.
And in the
candlestick were four
bowls made like almonds, his knops, and his flowers:
And on the lampstand were four
cups shaped like
almond blossoms with buds and petals.
And upon the table of
shewbread they shall spread a cloth of blue, and put
thereon the dishes, and the spoons, and the
bowls, and covers to cover
withal: and the continual bread shall be
thereon:
Over the table of the Presence they are to spread a blue cloth and place the plates and
cups on it, along with the
bowls and pitchers for the drink offering. The regular bread offering is to remain on it.
But the poor man had nothing, save one little
ewe lamb, which he had bought and
nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and
drank of his own
cup, and lay in his
bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.
but the poor man had nothing except one small
ewe lamb that he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food and
drank from his
cup; it
slept in his arms and was like a daughter to him.
And it was an hand breadth thick, and the
brim thereof was wrought like the
brim of a
cup, with flowers of
lilies: it contained two thousand baths.
And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their
apparel, and his
cupbearers, and his
ascent by which he went up unto the house of the LORD; there was no more spirit in her.
the food at his table, the seating of his servants, the service and
attire of his attendants and
cupbearers, and the burnt offerings he presented at the house of the LORD, it took her breath away.
And all king Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of
Lebanon were of pure gold; none were of silver: it was nothing accounted of in the days of Solomon.
All King Solomon’s drinking
cups were gold, and all the utensils of the House of the Forest of
Lebanon were pure gold. There was no silver, because it was accounted as nothing in the days of Solomon.
So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said,
Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
So
Elijah got up and went to Zarephath. When he arrived at the city gate, there was a widow gathering sticks.
Elijah called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a
cup, so that I may drink.”
Also pure gold for the fleshhooks, and the
bowls, and the
cups: and for the golden basons he gave gold by weight for every
bason; and likewise silver by weight for every
bason of silver:
the weight of the pure gold for the forks,
sprinkling bowls, and pitchers; the weight of each gold
dish; the weight of each silver
bowl;
And the thickness of it was an
handbreadth, and the
brim of it like the work of the
brim of a
cup, with flowers of
lilies; and it received and held three thousand baths.
And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their
apparel; his
cupbearers also, and their
apparel; and his
ascent by which he went up into the house of the LORD; there was no more spirit in her.
the food at his table, the seating of his servants, the service and
attire of his attendants and
cupbearers, and the burnt offerings he presented at the house of the LORD, it took her breath away.
And all the drinking vessels of king Solomon were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of

All King Solomon’s drinking
cups were gold, and all the utensils of the House of the Forest of

O Lord, I
beseech thee, let now thine ear be
attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and
prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king’s
cupbearer.
O Lord, may Your ear be
attentive to my prayer and to the prayers of Your servants who delight to
revere Your name. Give Your servant success this day, I pray, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.” (At that time I was the
cupbearer to the king.)
Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and
brimstone, and an
horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their
cup.
On the wicked He will rain down
fiery coals and sulfur; a
scorching wind will be their portion.
The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.
The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; You have made my lot secure.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You
anoint my head with oil; my
cup overflows.
Therefore his people return
hither: and waters of a full
cup are
wrung out to them.
So their people return to this place and drink up waters in abundance.
For in the hand of the LORD there is a
cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the
dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall
wring them out, and drink them.
For a
cup is in the hand of the LORD, full of
foaming wine mixed with spices. He pours from His
cup, and all the wicked of the earth drink it down to the
dregs.
I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD.
I will lift the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD.
Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the
cup, when it moveth itself
aright.
Do not
gaze at wine while it is red, when it sparkles in the
cup and goes down smoothly.
And they shall
hang upon him all the glory of his father’s house, the offspring and the issue, all vessels of small quantity, from the vessels of
cups, even to all the vessels of flagons.
So they will
hang on him all the glory of his father’s house: the descendants and the offshoots—all the lesser vessels, from
bowls to every kind of
jar.
Thus saith thy Lord the LORD, and thy God that pleadeth the cause of his people, Behold, I have taken out of thine hand the
cup of
trembling, even the
dregs of the
cup of my
fury; thou shalt no more drink it again:
Thus says your Lord, the LORD, even your God, who defends His people: “See, I have removed from your hand the
cup of
staggering. From that
goblet, the
cup of My
fury, you will never drink again.
Neither shall men
tear themselves for them in
mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the
cup of
consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.
No food will be offered to comfort those who
mourn the dead; not even a
cup of
consolation will be given for the loss of a father or mother.
For thus saith the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take the wine
cup of this
fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it.
This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, said to me: “Take from My hand this cup of the wine of wrath, and make all the nations to whom I send you drink from it.
Then took I the cup at the LORD’S hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me:
So I took the cup from the LORD’s hand and made all the nations drink from it, each one to whom the LORD had sent me,
And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at thine hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ye shall certainly drink.
If they refuse to take the cup from your hand and drink it, you are to tell them that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘You most certainly must drink it!
And I set before the sons of the house of the
Rechabites pots full of wine, and
cups, and I said unto them, Drink ye wine.
Then I set pitchers full of wine and some
cups before the men of the house of the
Rechabites, and I said to them, “Drink some wine.”
For thus saith the LORD; Behold, they whose judgment was not to drink of the
cup have
assuredly drunken; and art thou he that shall altogether go unpunished? thou shalt not go unpunished, but thou shalt surely drink of it.
For this is what the LORD says: “If those who do not deserve to drink the cup must drink it, can you possibly remain unpunished? You will not go unpunished, for you must drink it too.
Babylon hath been a golden
cup in the LORD’S hand, that made all the earth
drunken: the nations have
drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are
mad.
Babylon was a gold
cup in the hand of the LORD, making the whole earth
drunk. The nations
drank her wine; therefore the nations have gone
mad.
And the basons, and the firepans, and the
bowls, and the caldrons, and the candlesticks, and the spoons, and the
cups; that which was of gold in gold, and that which was of silver in silver, took the captain of the guard away.
The captain of the guard also took away the basins, censers,
sprinkling bowls, pots, lampstands, pans, and drink offering
bowls—anything made of pure gold or fine silver.
Rejoice and be
glad, O daughter of
Edom, that dwellest in the land of
Uz; the
cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be
drunken, and shalt make
thyself naked.
Thou hast walked in the way of thy sister; therefore will I give her cup into thine hand.
Because you have followed the path of your sister, I will put her cup into your hand.’
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou shalt drink of thy sister’s
cup deep and large: thou shalt be
laughed to
scorn and had in
derision; it containeth much.
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘You will drink your sister’s
cup, a
cup deep and wide. It will bring
scorn and
derision, for it holds so much.
Thou art filled with shame for glory: drink thou also, and let thy
foreskin be uncovered: the
cup of the LORD’S right hand shall be turned unto thee, and shameful
spewing shall be on thy glory.
You will be filled with shame instead of glory. You too must drink and
expose your
uncircumcision! The
cup in the LORD’s right hand will come around to you, and utter disgrace will cover your glory.
Behold, I will make Jerusalem a
cup of
trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.
“Behold, I will make Jerusalem a
cup of
drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples. Judah will be besieged, as well as Jerusalem.
And
whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a
cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple,
verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
And if
anyone gives even a
cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.”
But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the
cup that I shall drink of, and to be
baptized with the baptism that I am
baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.
“You do not know what you are asking,” Jesus replied. “Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?” “We can,” the brothers answered.
And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my
cup, and be
baptized with the baptism that I am
baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.
“You will indeed drink My cup,” Jesus said. “But to sit at My right or left is not Mine to grant. These seats belong to those for whom My Father has prepared them.”
Thou blind
Pharisee,
cleanse first that which is within the
cup and
platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
Blind
Pharisee! First clean the inside of the
cup and
dish, so that the outside may become clean as well.
And he took the
cup, and gave
thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
Then He took the
cup, gave
thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you.
And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this
cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou
wilt.
Going a little farther, He fell facedown and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.”
He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.
A second time He went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cup cannot pass unless I drink it, may Your will be done.”
And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of
cups, and pots,
brasen vessels, and of tables.
And on returning from the market, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other traditions for them to observe, including the washing of
cups, pitchers, kettles, and couches for
dining.
For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
You have disregarded the commandment of God to keep the tradition of men.”
For
whosoever shall give you a
cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ,
verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
Indeed, if
anyone gives you even a
cup of water because you bear the name of Christ, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.
But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the
cup that I drink of? and be
baptized with the baptism that I am
baptized with?
“You do not know what you are asking,” Jesus replied. “Can you drink the
cup I will drink, or be
baptized with the baptism I will undergo?”
And they said unto him, We can. And Jesus said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the
cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am
baptized withal shall ye be
baptized:
“We can,” the brothers answered. “You will drink the
cup that I drink,” Jesus said, “and you will be
baptized with the baptism that I undergo.
And he took the
cup, and when he had given
thanks, he gave it to them: and they all
drank of it.
Then He took the
cup, gave
thanks, and gave it to them, and they all
drank from it.
And he said,
Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this
cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou
wilt.
“
Abba, Father,” He said, “all things are possible for You. Take this
cup from Me. Yet not what I will, but what You will.”
And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye
Pharisees make clean the outside of the
cup and the
platter; but your inward part is full of
ravening and wickedness.
“Now then,” said the Lord, “you
Pharisees clean the outside of the
cup and
dish, but inside you are full of
greed and wickedness.
And he took the
cup, and gave
thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among
yourselves:
After taking the
cup, He gave
thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among
yourselves.
Likewise also the
cup after
supper, saying, This
cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
In the same way, after
supper He took the
cup, saying, “This
cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you.
Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
“Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me. Yet not My will, but Yours be done.”
Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the
sheath: the
cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?
“Put your sword back in its
sheath!” Jesus said to Peter. “Shall I not drink the
cup the Father has given Me?”
The
cup of blessing which we
bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?
Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.
You cannot drink the
cup of the Lord and the
cup of demons too; you cannot
partake in the table of the Lord and the table of demons too.
After the same manner also he took the
cup, when he had
supped, saying, This
cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as
oft as ye drink it, in
remembrance of me.
In the same way, after
supper He took the
cup, saying, “This
cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in
remembrance of Me.”
For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this
cup, ye do
shew the Lord’s death till he come.
For as often as you eat this bread and drink this
cup, you
proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
Wherefore
whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this
cup of the Lord,
unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
Therefore,
whoever eats the bread or drinks the
cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of
sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.
But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
Each one must examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup.
The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the
cup of his
indignation; and he shall be
tormented with fire and
brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
he too will drink the wine of God’s anger, poured undiluted into the
cup of His wrath. And he will be
tormented in fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb.
And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in
remembrance before God, to give unto her the
cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.
The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations
collapsed. And God remembered Babylon the great and gave her the
cup of the wine of the
fury of His wrath.
And the woman was
arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden
cup in her hand full of abominations and
filthiness of her
fornication:
The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls. She held in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of her sexual immorality.
Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.
Give back to her as she has done to others; pay her back double for what she has done;
mix her a double portion in her own
cup.
And this was the number of them; A thousand golden cups, and a thousand of silver, censers of silver twenty nine, vials of gold thirty, and of silver two thousand four hundred and ten, and a thousand other vessels.
And when they are in their
cups, they
forget their love both to friends and brethren, and a little after draw out swords:
Then opened I my mouth, and, behold, he reached me a full cup, which was full as it were with water, but the colour of it was like fire.
And Achiacharus intreating for me, I returned to Nineve. Now Achiacharus was
cupbearer, and keeper of the
signet, and
steward, and
overseer of the accounts: and Sarchedonus appointed him next unto him: and he was my brother’s son.
He stretched out his hand to the
cup, and poured of the blood of the
grape, he poured out at the foot of the altar a sweetsmelling savour unto the most high King of all.
So Athenobius the king’s friend came to Jerusalem: and when he saw the glory of Simon, and the
cupboard of gold and silver plate, and his great attendance, he was
astonished, and told him the king’s message.
