In my
distress I called upon the LORD, and
cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.
In my
distress I called upon the LORD; I
cried out to my God. And from His temple He heard my voice, and my cry for help reached His ears.
He shot His arrows and scattered the foes; He
hurled lightning and routed them.
And the channels of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were
discovered, at the
rebuking of the LORD, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils.
The channels of the sea appeared, and the foundations of the world were exposed at the
rebuke of the LORD, at the blast of the breath of His nostrils.
For all his judgments were before me: and as for his statutes, I did not depart from them.
For all His ordinances are before me; I have not disregarded His statutes.
And David said unto
Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his
mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man.
David answered
Gad, “I am deeply
distressed. Please, let us fall into the hand of the LORD, for His
mercies are great; but do not let me fall into the hands of men.”
And his father had not
displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after
Absalom.
(His father had never once
reprimanded him by saying, “Why do you act this way?” Adonijah was also very handsome, born next after
Absalom.)
And the king
sware, and said, As the LORD liveth, that hath redeemed my soul out of all
distress,
And the king
swore an oath, saying, “As surely as the LORD lives, who has redeemed my life from all
distress,
Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may
discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
Therefore give Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people and to
discern between good and evil. For who is able to
govern this great people of Yours?”
And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for
thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for
thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for
thyself understanding to
discern judgment;
So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this instead of requesting long life or wealth for
yourself or death for your enemies—but you have asked for
discernment to
administer justice—
Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.
behold, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and
discerning heart, so that there has never been nor will ever be another like you.
And when I rose in the morning to give my child
suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear.
The next morning, when I got up to
nurse my son, I
discovered he was dead. But when I examined him, I realized that he was not the son I had borne.”
My servants shall bring them down from
Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in floats unto the place that thou shalt
appoint me, and will cause them to be
discharged there, and thou shalt receive them: and thou shalt
accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.
My servants will
haul the logs from
Lebanon to the Sea, and I will
float them as rafts by sea to the place you
specify. There I will separate the logs, and you can take them away. And in exchange, you can meet my needs by providing my household with food.”
Moreover concerning a stranger, that is not of thy people Israel, but cometh out of a far country for thy name’s sake;
And as for the foreigner who is not of Your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of Your name—
And they shall answer, Because they
forsook the LORD their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath the LORD brought upon them all this evil.
And others will answer, ‘Because they have
forsaken the LORD their God who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them—because of this, the LORD has brought all this
disaster upon them.’”
And he
cried unto the man of God that came from Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD,
Forasmuch as thou hast
disobeyed the mouth of the LORD, and hast not kept the commandment which the LORD thy God commanded thee,
and the prophet
cried out to the man of God who had come from Judah, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Because you have
defied the word of the LORD and have not kept the commandment that the LORD your God gave you,
And when the prophet that brought him back from the way heard thereof, he said, It is the man of God, who was
disobedient unto the word of the LORD: therefore the LORD hath delivered him unto the lion, which hath
torn him, and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake unto him.
When the prophet who had brought him back from his journey heard this, he said, “It is the man of God who
disobeyed the command of the LORD. Therefore the LORD has delivered him to the lion, and it has
mauled him and killed him, according to the word that the LORD had spoken to him.”
And
Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I pray thee, and
disguise thyself, that thou be not known to be the wife of
Jeroboam; and get thee to
Shiloh: behold, there is
Ahijah the prophet, which told me that I should be king over this people.
And the LORD said unto
Ahijah, Behold, the wife of
Jeroboam cometh to ask a thing of thee for her son; for he is sick: thus and thus shalt thou say unto her: for it shall be, when she cometh in, that she shall
feign herself to be another woman.
But the LORD had said to
Ahijah, “Behold, the wife of
Jeroboam is coming to ask you about her son, for he is ill. You are to say such and such to her, because when she arrives, she will be
disguised.”
And it was so, when
Ahijah heard the sound of her feet as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of
Jeroboam; why feignest thou
thyself to be another? for I am sent to thee with heavy
tidings.
So when
Ahijah heard the sound of her feet entering the door, he said, “Come in, wife of
Jeroboam! Why are you
disguised? For I have been sent to you with bad news.
Therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of
Jeroboam, and will cut off from
Jeroboam him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel, and will take away the
remnant of the house of
Jeroboam, as a man taketh away dung, till it be all gone.
Because of all this, behold, I am bringing
disaster on the house of
Jeroboam: I will cut off from
Jeroboam every male, both slave and free, in Israel; I will burn up the house of
Jeroboam as one burns up dung until it is gone!
The rest of all the acts of
Asa, and all his might, and all that he did, and the cities which he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? Nevertheless in the time of his old age he was
diseased in his feet.
Now the rest of the acts of
Asa, along with all his might, all his accomplishments, and the cities he built, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? In his old age, however, he became
diseased in his feet.
And
Ahab said, By whom? And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Even by the young men of the princes of the provinces. Then he said, Who shall order the battle? And he answered, Thou.
“By whom?”
Ahab asked. And the prophet replied, “This is what the LORD says: ‘By the young officers of the
district governors.’” “Who will start the battle?” asked
Ahab. “You will,” answered the prophet.
Then he numbered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty two: and after them he numbered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand.
So
Ahab assembled the young officers of the
district governors, and there were 232 men. And after them, he assembled the rest of the
Israelite troops, 7,000 in all.
And the young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Ben-
hadad sent out, and they told him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria.
And the young officers of the
district governors marched out first. Now Ben-
hadad had sent out scouts, who reported to him, “Men are marching out of Samaria.”
So these young men of the princes of the provinces came out of the city, and the army which followed them.
Meanwhile, these young officers of the district governors marched out of the city, with the army behind them,
And do this thing, Take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their rooms:
So do this: Dismiss all the kings from their positions and replace them with other officers.
So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and
disguised himself with ashes upon his face.
and the prophet went and waited on the road for the king,
disguising himself with a
bandage over his eyes.
And as thy servant was
busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So shall thy judgment be;
thyself hast decided it.
But while your servant was
busy here and there, the man
disappeared.” And the king of Israel said to him, “So shall your judgment be; you have pronounced it on
yourself.”
And he hasted, and took the ashes away from his face; and the king of Israel
discerned him that he was of the prophets.
Then the prophet quickly removed the
bandage from his eyes, and the king of Israel recognized him as one of the prophets.
And the king of Israel went to his house heavy and displeased, and came to Samaria.
Sullen and
angry, the king of Israel went home to Samaria.
And
Ahab came into his house heavy and
displeased because of the word which
Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him: for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.
So
Ahab went to his palace,
sullen and
angry because
Naboth the Jezreelite had told him, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” He lay down on his bed, turned his face away, and refused to eat.
Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.
So you see, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of all these prophets of yours, and the LORD has pronounced
disaster against you.”
And the king of Israel said unto
Jehoshaphat, I will
disguise myself, and enter into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. And the king of Israel
disguised himself, and went into the battle.
And the king of Israel said to
Jehoshaphat, “I will
disguise myself and go into battle, but you wear your royal robes.” So the king of Israel
disguised himself and went into battle.
And
Ahaziah fell down through a
lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick: and he sent messengers, and said unto them, Go,
enquire of
Baal-
zebub the god of
Ekron whether I shall recover of this
disease.
Now
Ahaziah had fallen through the
lattice of his upper room in Samaria and injured himself. So he sent messengers and
instructed them: “Go inquire of
Baal-
zebub, the god of
Ekron, whether I will recover from this injury.”
And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view
afar off: and they two stood by Jordan.
Then a company of fifty of the sons of the prophets went and stood at a
distance, facing
Elijah and
Elisha as the two of them stood by the Jordan.
So she went and came unto the man of God to mount
Carmel. And it came to pass, when the man of God saw her
afar off, that he said to Gehazi his servant, Behold,
yonder is that Shunammite:
So she set out and went to the man of God at Mount
Carmel. When the man of God saw her at a
distance, he said to his servant Gehazi, “Look, there is the Shunammite woman.
And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught him by the feet: but Gehazi came near to thrust her away. And the man of God said, Let her alone; for her soul is
vexed within her: and the LORD hath
hid it from me, and hath not told me.
When she reached the man of God at the mountain, she
clung to his feet. Gehazi came over to
push her away, but the man of God said, “Leave her alone, for her soul is in deep
distress, and the LORD has hidden it from me and has not told me.”
And he said unto him, Go in peace. So he departed from him a little way.
“Go in peace,” said
Elisha. But after
Naaman had traveled a short
distance,
And he said, All is well. My master hath sent me, saying, Behold, even now there be come to me from mount Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets: give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments.
“Everything is all right,” Gehazi replied. “My master has sent me to say, ‘I have just now discovered that two young men from the sons of the prophets have come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two sets of clothing.’”
And when he came to the tower, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house: and he let the men go, and they departed.
When Gehazi came to the hill, he took the gifts from the servants and stored them in the house. Then he dismissed the men, and they departed.
And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that
Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.
When they had entered Samaria,
Elisha said, “O LORD, open the eyes of these men that they may see.” Then the LORD opened their eyes, and they looked around and
discovered that they were in Samaria.
And the king said unto
Hazael, Take a present in thine hand, and go, meet the man of God, and
enquire of the LORD by him, saying, Shall I recover of this
disease?
So the king said to
Hazael, “Take a gift in your hand, go to meet the man of God, and inquire of the LORD through him, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”
So
Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels’ burden, and came and stood before him, and said, Thy son Ben-
hadad king of Syria hath sent me to thee, saying, Shall I recover of this
disease?
So
Hazael went to meet
Elisha, taking with him a gift of forty
camel loads of every good thing from Damascus. And he went in and stood before him and said, “Your son Ben-
hadad king of
Aram has sent me to ask, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”
And the king of Assyria found
conspiracy in Hoshea: for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and brought no present to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year: therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison.
But the king of Assyria
discovered that Hoshea had
conspired to send envoys to King So of Egypt, and that he had not paid tribute to the king of Assyria as in previous years. Therefore the king of Assyria arrested Hoshea and put him in prison.
And they said unto him, Thus saith
Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of
rebuke, and
blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.
to tell him, “This is what
Hezekiah says:
Today is a day of
distress,
rebuke, and
disgrace; for children have come to the point of birth, but there is no strength to deliver them.
Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were
dismayed and confounded; they were as the grass of the field, and as the green
herb, as the grass on the house tops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up.
Therefore their inhabitants, devoid of power, are
dismayed and
ashamed. They are like plants in the field, tender green shoots, grass on the rooftops,
scorched before it is grown.
Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king
Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And
Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country, even from Babylon.
Then the prophet Isaiah went to King
Hezekiah and asked, “Where did those men come from, and what did they say to you?” “They came from a
distant land,”
Hezekiah replied, “from Babylon.”
And I will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria, and the
plummet of the house of
Ahab: and I will
wipe Jerusalem as a man wipeth a
dish,
wiping it, and turning it
upside down.
I will stretch out over Jerusalem the measuring line used against Samaria and the
plumb line used against the house of
Ahab, and I will
wipe out Jerusalem as one wipes out a
bowl—
wiping it and turning it
upside down.
So Hilkiah the priest, and
Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went unto Huldah the
prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the
wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college;) and they communed with her.
So Hilkiah the priest,
Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went and spoke to Huldah the
prophetess, the wife of Shallum son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, the keeper of the
wardrobe. She lived in Jerusalem, in the Second
District.
And he said, Let him alone; let no man move his bones. So they let his bones alone, with the bones of the prophet that came out of Samaria.
“Let him rest,” said
Josiah. “Do not let
anyone disturb his bones.” So they left his bones undisturbed, along with those of the prophet who had come from Samaria.
And the pots, and the shovels, and the
snuffers, and the spoons, and all the vessels of brass
wherewith they ministered, took they away.
They also took away the pots, shovels,
wick trimmers,
dishes, and all the articles of bronze used in the temple service.
And the sons of
Seir; Lotan, and Shobal, and Zibeon, and Anah, and
Dishon, and Ezar, and
Dishan.
The sons of
Seir: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,
Dishon, Ezer, and
Dishan.
The sons of Anah; Dishon. And the sons of Dishon; Amram, and Eshban, and Ithran, and Cheran.
The son of Anah: Dishon. The sons of Dishon: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran.
The sons of Ezer; Bilhan, and Zavan, and Jakan. The sons of
Dishan;
Uz, and Aran.
The sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan. The sons of
Dishan:
Uz and Aran.
And David was
displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzza: wherefore that place is called
Perez-uzza to this day.
Then David became
angry because the LORD had
burst forth against Uzzah; so he named that place
Perez-uzzah, as it is called to this day.
And he dealt to every one of Israel, both man and woman, to every one a
loaf of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a
flagon of wine.
Then he
distributed to every man and woman of Israel a
loaf of bread, a date
cake, and a
raisin cake.
Also I will
ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,
And I will provide a place for My people Israel and will plant them so that they may dwell in a place of their own and be
disturbed no more. No longer will the sons of wickedness
oppress them as they did at the beginning
And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant’s house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God.
And as if this was a small thing in Your eyes, O God, You have spoken about the future of the house of Your servant and have regarded me as a man of great distinction, O LORD God.
And God was
displeased with this thing; therefore he
smote Israel.
This command was also evil in the sight of God; so He struck Israel.
And David said unto
Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the LORD; for very great are his
mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of man.
David answered
Gad, “I am deeply
distressed. Please, let me fall into the hand of the LORD, for His
mercies are very great; but do not let me fall into the hands of men.”
Then shalt thou
prosper, if thou takest
heed to fulfil the statutes and judgments which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage;
dread not, nor be
dismayed.
Then you will succeed, if you carefully follow the statutes and ordinances that the LORD commanded Moses for Israel. Be strong and
courageous. Do not be afraid or
discouraged.
And David
distributed them, both
Zadok of the sons of
Eleazar, and
Ahimelech of the sons of
Ithamar, according to their offices in their service.
Also pure gold for the fleshhooks, and the
bowls, and the cups: and for the golden basons he gave gold by weight for every
bason; and likewise silver by weight for every
bason of silver:
the weight of the pure gold for the forks,
sprinkling bowls, and pitchers; the weight of each gold
dish; the weight of each silver
bowl;
And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be
dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor
forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.
David also said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and
courageous, and do it. Do not be afraid or
discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will neither fail you nor
forsake you before all the work for the service of the house of the LORD is finished.
And, behold, the courses of the priests and the Levites, even they shall be with thee for all the service of the house of God: and there shall be with thee for all manner of
workmanship every willing skilful man, for any manner of service: also the princes and all the people will be wholly at thy commandment.
The divisions of the priests and Levites are ready for all the service of the house of God, and every willing man of every skill will be at your
disposal for the work. The officials and all the people are fully at your command.”
Behold, I build an house to the name of the LORD my God, to
dedicate it to him, and to burn before him sweet incense, and for the continual
shewbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts of the LORD our God. This is an
ordinance for ever to Israel.
Behold, I am about to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God to
dedicate to Him for burning
fragrant incense before Him, for
displaying the
showbread continuously, and for making burnt offerings every morning and evening as well as on the Sabbaths, New Moons, and appointed feasts of the LORD our God. This is ordained for Israel
forever.
Moreover concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a far country for thy great name’s sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; if they come and pray in this house;
And as for the foreigner who is not of Your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of Your great name and Your mighty hand and outstretched arm—when he comes and prays toward this temple,
And it shall be answered, Because they
forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them.
And others will answer, ‘Because they have
forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them—because of this, He has brought all this
disaster upon them.’”
And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their coasts.
Moreover, the priests and Levites from all their
districts throughout Israel stood with
Rehoboam.
And he dealt wisely, and
dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every
fenced city: and he gave them
victual in abundance. And he desired many wives.
Rehoboam also acted wisely by
dispersing some of his sons throughout the
districts of Judah and Benjamin, and to all the fortified cities. He gave them abundant provisions and sought many wives for them.
And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they
cried unto the LORD, and the priests sounded with the
trumpets.
When Judah turned and
discovered that the battle was both before and behind them, they
cried out to the LORD. Then the priests
blew the
trumpets,
But when they in their trouble did turn unto the LORD God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them.
But in their distress they turned to the LORD, the God of Israel, and sought Him, and He was found by them.
Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.
But as for you, be strong; do not be discouraged, for your work will be rewarded.”
And
Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was
diseased in his feet, until his
disease was exceeding great: yet in his
disease he sought not to the LORD, but to the physicians.
In the thirty-ninth year of his reign,
Asa became
diseased in his feet, and his
malady became increasingly severe. Yet even in his illness he did not seek the LORD, but only the physicians.
Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil against thee.
So you see, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of these prophets of yours, and the LORD has pronounced
disaster against you.”
And the king of Israel said unto
Jehoshaphat, I will
disguise myself, and will go to the battle; but put thou on thy robes. So the king of Israel
disguised himself; and they went to the battle.
And the king of Israel said to
Jehoshaphat, “I will
disguise myself and go into battle, but you wear your royal robes.” So the king of Israel
disguised himself and went into battle.
Moreover in Jerusalem did
Jehoshaphat set of the Levites, and of the priests, and of the chief of the fathers of Israel, for the judgment of the LORD, and for
controversies, when they returned to Jerusalem.
Moreover,
Jehoshaphat appointed in Jerusalem some of the Levites, priests, and heads of the
Israelite families to judge on behalf of the LORD and to settle
disputes. And they lived in Jerusalem.
And what cause
soever shall come to you of your brethren that dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and judgments, ye shall even
warn them that they
trespass not against the LORD, and so wrath come upon you, and upon your brethren: this do, and ye shall not
trespass.
For every
dispute that comes before you from your brothers who dwell in their cities—whether it regards
bloodshed or some other
violation of law, commandments, statutes, or ordinances—you are to
warn them, so that they will not
incur guilt before the LORD and wrath will not come upon you and your brothers. Do this, and you will not
incur guilt.
If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or
pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our
affliction, then thou
wilt hear and help.
‘If
disaster comes upon us—whether sword or judgment, plague or famine—we will stand before this temple and before You, for Your Name is in this temple. We will cry out to You in our
distress, and You will hear us and save us.’
And he said,
Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king
Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor
dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
And he said, “
Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem!
Listen, King
Jehoshaphat! This is what the LORD says: ‘Do not be afraid or
discouraged because of this vast army, for the battle does not belong to you, but to God.
Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set
yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be
dismayed; to
morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.
You need not fight this battle. Take up your positions, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or
discouraged. Go out and face them
tomorrow, for the LORD is with you.’”
And thou shalt have great sickness by
disease of thy
bowels, until thy
bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.
And day after day you
yourself will suffer from a severe illness, a
disease of your
bowels, until it causes your
bowels to come out.’”
And after all this the LORD
smote him in his
bowels with an incurable
disease.
After all this, the LORD
afflicted Jehoram with an incurable
disease of the
bowels.
And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his
bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of
sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.
This continued day after day until two full years had passed. Finally, his intestines came out because of his disease, and he died in severe pain. And his people did not make a fire in his honor as they had done for his fathers.
So the Levites and all Judah did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest had commanded, and took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that were to go out on the sabbath: for Jehoiada the priest dismissed not the courses.
So the Levites and all Judah did everything that Jehoiada the priest had ordered. Each of them took his men—those coming on duty on the Sabbath and those going off duty—for Jehoiada the priest had not released any of the divisions.
Also Jehoiada appointed the offices of the house of the LORD by the hand of the priests the Levites, whom David had
distributed in the house of the LORD, to offer the burnt offerings of the LORD, as it is written in the law of Moses, with
rejoicing and with singing, as it was ordained by David.
Moreover, Jehoiada put the oversight of the house of the LORD into the hands of the
Levitical priests, whom David had appointed over the house of the LORD, to offer burnt offerings to the LORD as is written in the Law of Moses, with
rejoicing and song, as ordained by David.
And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada,
whereof were made vessels for the house of the LORD, even vessels to minister, and to offer
withal, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada.
When they were finished, they brought the rest of the money to the king and Jehoiada to make with it the articles for the house of the LORD—utensils for the service and for the burnt offerings, dishes, and other objects of gold and silver. Throughout the days of Jehoiada, burnt offerings were presented regularly in the house of the LORD.
And when they were departed from him, (for they left him in great
diseases,) his own servants
conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and
slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the
sepulchres of the kings.
And when the Arameans had withdrawn, they left
Joash severely wounded. His own servants
conspired against him for
shedding the blood of the son of Jehoiada the priest, and they killed him on his bed. So he died and was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
Then
Amaziah separated them, to wit, the army that was come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again: wherefore their anger was greatly
kindled against Judah, and they returned home in great anger.
So
Amaziah dismissed the troops who had come to him from Ephraim and sent them home. And they were
furious with Judah and returned home in great anger.
But the soldiers of the army which
Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell upon the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-horon, and
smote three thousand of them, and took much
spoil.
Meanwhile the troops that
Amaziah had
dismissed from battle
raided the cities of Judah, from Samaria to Beth-horon. They struck down 3,000 people and carried off a great deal of
plunder.
And Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria came unto him, and distressed him, but strengthened him not.
And in the time of his
distress did he
trespass yet more against the LORD: this is that king
Ahaz.
In the time of his
distress, King
Ahaz became even more unfaithful to the LORD.
And Kore the son of Imnah the

And next him were
Eden, and Miniamin, and Jeshua, and Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah, in the cities of the priests, in their set office, to give to their brethren by courses, as well to the great as to the small:
Under his authority,
Eden, Miniamin, Jeshua, Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah faithfully
distributed portions to their fellow priests in their cities, according to their divisions, old and young alike.

As for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, who lived on the farmlands around each of their cities or in any other city, men were designated by name to
distribute a portion to every male among the priests and to every
Levite listed by the
genealogies.
Be strong and
courageous, be not afraid nor
dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him:
“Be strong and
courageous! Do not be afraid or
discouraged before the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater One with us than with him.
And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own
bowels slew him there with the sword.
and the LORD sent an angel who
annihilated every mighty man of
valor and every leader and commander in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he withdrew to his own land in
disgrace. And when he entered the temple of his god, some of his own sons struck him down with the sword.
And when he was in
affliction, he
besought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers,
And in his
distress,
Manasseh sought the favor of the LORD his God and earnestly humbled himself before the God of his fathers.
And Hilkiah, and they that the king had appointed, went to Huldah the
prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the
wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college:) and they spake to her to that effect.
So Hilkiah and those the king had designated went and spoke to Huldah the
prophetess, the wife of Shallum son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, the keeper of the
wardrobe. She lived in Jerusalem, in the Second
