hid; and I shall be a
fugitive and a
vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall
slay me.

fugitive and a
wanderer on the earth, and

And they
baked unleavened cakes of the
dough which they brought forth out of Egypt, for it was not
leavened; because they were thrust out of Egypt, and could not
tarry, neither had they prepared for themselves any
victual.

dough had no
leaven, the people
baked what they had brought out of Egypt into
unleavened loaves. For when they had been
driven out of Egypt, they could not delay and had not prepared any provisions for themselves.

ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast, to keep; and it die, or be

drive out the Hivite, the

drive them out from before thee in one year; lest the land become

drive them out before you in a single year; otherwise the land would become
desolate and wild animals would multiply against you.

drive them out from before thee, until thou be increased, and
inherit the land.

drive them out
ahead of you, until you become fruitful and possess the land.

drive out the

drive out before thee the Amorite, and the

enlarge thy borders: neither shall any man desire thy land, when thou shalt go up to appear before the LORD thy God

covet your land when you go up three times a year to appear before the LORD your God.

curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me:
peradventure I shall prevail, that we may
smite them, and that I may
drive them out of the land: for I
wot that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is
cursed.
So please come now and put a
curse on this people, because they are too mighty for me. Perhaps I may be able to defeat them and
drive them out of the land; for I know that those you
bless are blessed, and those you
curse are
cursed.”

drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their
molten images, and quite
pluck down all their high places:
you must
drive out before you all the inhabitants of the land, destroy all their carved images and cast idols, and
demolish all their high places.
But if ye will not
drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall
vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.

drive out the inhabitants of the land before you, those you allow to remain will become barbs in your eyes and thorns in your sides; they will
harass you in the land where you settle.
And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.

enticed to bow down and worship what the LORD your God has
apportioned to all the nations under heaven.
And the LORD shall
scatter you among the nations, and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen,
whither the LORD shall lead you.

drive you.
To drive out nations from before thee greater and mightier than thou art, to bring thee in, to give thee their land for an inheritance, as it is this day.
to drive out before you nations greater and mightier than you, and to bring you into their land and give it to you for your inheritance, as it is this day.
When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land
whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the
Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the
Amorites, and the
Canaanites, and the
Perizzites, and the
Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;
When the LORD your God brings you into the land that you are entering to possess, and He
drives out before you many nations—the
Hittites, Girgashites,
Amorites,
Canaanites,
Perizzites,
Hivites, and Jebusites, seven nations larger and stronger than you—
If thou shalt say in thine heart, These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?
You may say in your heart, “These nations are greater than we are; how can we drive them out?”
And the LORD thy God will put out those nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not
consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee.

drive out these nations before you little by little. You will not be enabled to
eliminate them all at once, or the wild animals would multiply around you.

ahead of you as a
consuming fire; He will destroy them and
subdue them before you. And you will
drive them out and
annihilate them swiftly, as the LORD has promised you.
Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD
doth drive them out from before thee.
When the LORD your God has driven them out before you, do not say in your heart, “Because of my righteousness the LORD has brought me in to possess this land.” Rather, the LORD is driving out these nations before you because of their wickedness.
Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart,
dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God
doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the LORD
sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
It is not because of your righteousness or uprightness of heart that you are going in to possess their land, but it is because of their wickedness that the LORD your God is driving out these nations before you, to keep the promise He
swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Then will the LORD
drive out all these nations from before you, and ye shall possess greater nations and mightier than
yourselves.

When the LORD thy God shall cut off the nations from before thee,

When the LORD your God cuts off before you the nations you are entering to dispossess, and you drive them out and live in their land,
For all that do these things are an
abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God
doth drive them out from before thee.

When the LORD thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the LORD thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses;
When the LORD your God has cut off the nations whose land He is giving you, and when you have driven them out and settled in their cities and houses,
So that thou shalt be
mad for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.
You will be
driven mad by the sights you see.
You will become an object of
horror,
scorn, and
ridicule among all the nations to which the LORD will
drive you.
And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the
curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations,
whither the LORD thy God hath
driven thee,
“When all these things come upon you—the blessings and curses I have set before you—and you call them to mind in all the nations to which the LORD your God has banished you,
If any of thine be
driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from thence will the LORD thy God gather thee, and from thence will he
fetch thee:
Even if you have been banished to the
farthest horizon, He will gather you and return you from there.
The eternal God is thy refuge, and
underneath are the
everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.
The eternal God is your dwelling place, and
underneath are the
everlasting arms. He
drives out the enemy before you, giving the command, ‘Destroy him!’
And Joshua said,
Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail
drive out from before you the
Canaanites, and the
Hittites, and the
Hivites, and the

Amorites, and the Jebusites.
All the inhabitants of the hill country from
Lebanon unto Misrephoth-
maim, and all the Sidonians, them will I
drive out from before the children of Israel: only divide thou it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee.

Lebanon to Misrephoth-
maim—all the Sidonians—I Myself will
drive out before the Israelites. Be sure to divide it by lot as an inheritance to Israel, as I have commanded you.
Nevertheless the children of Israel expelled not the Geshurites, nor the Maachathites: but the Geshurites and the Maachathites dwell among the Israelites until this day.

Now therefore give me this mountain,
whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and
fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to
drive them out, as the LORD said.
Now therefore give me this hill country that the LORD promised me on that day, for you
yourself heard then that the
Anakim were there, with great and fortified cities. Perhaps with the LORD’s help I will
drive them out, as the LORD has spoken.”

Yet it came to pass, when the children of Israel were
waxen strong, that they put the
Canaanites to tribute; but did not utterly
drive them out.
However, when the Israelites grew stronger, they put the

drive them out completely.
But the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine: for thou shalt
drive out the
Canaanites, though they have iron
chariots, and though they be strong.
because the hill country will be yours as well. It is a forest; clear it, and its
farthest limits will be yours. Although the
Canaanites have iron
chariots and although they are strong, you can
drive them out.”
And the LORD your God, he shall
expel them from before you, and
drive them from out of your sight; and ye shall possess their land, as the LORD your God hath promised unto you.

push them out of your way and
drive them out before you, so that you can take possession of their land, as the LORD your God promised you.

drive out any of these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and
traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you.
know for sure that the LORD your God will no longer
drive out these nations before you. Instead, they will become for you a
snare and a
trap, a
scourge in your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land that the LORD your God has given you.

drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not

drive out the inhabitants of the plains because they had
chariots of iron.

Neither did
Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of
Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of
Megiddo and her towns: but the
Canaanites would dwell in that land.
At that time
Manasseh failed to
drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shean, Taanach,
Dor, Ibleam,
Megiddo, and their villages; for the
Canaanites were determined to dwell in that land.
And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the
Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly
drive them out.

drive out the inhabitants of
Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of

drive out the inhabitants of Acco,
Sidon, Ahlab,
Achzib, Helbah, Aphik, and Rehob.
But the Asherites dwelt among the
Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not
drive them out.
So the Asherites lived among the
Canaanite inhabitants of the land, because they did not
drive them out.
Neither did
Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath; but he dwelt among the
Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became tributaries unto them.
Naphtali failed to
drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and Beth-anath. So the Naphtalites also lived among the
Canaanite inhabitants of the land, but the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and Beth-anath served them as forced laborers.
Wherefore I also said, I will not
drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a
snare unto you.
So now I tell you that I will not
drive out these people before you; they will be thorns in your sides, and their gods will be a
snare to you.”
I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:
I will no longer drive out before them any of the nations Joshua left when he died.
Therefore the LORD left those nations, without driving them out
hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.
That is why the LORD had left those nations in place and had not driven them out immediately by delivering them into the hand of Joshua.
So now the LORD God of Israel hath dispossessed the
Amorites from before his people Israel, and shouldest thou possess it?
Now since the LORD, the God of Israel, has
driven out the
Amorites from before His people Israel, should you now possess it?
Wilt not thou possess that which
Chemosh thy god giveth thee to possess? So
whomsoever the LORD our God shall
drive out from before us, them will we possess.
Do you not possess whatever your god
Chemosh grants you? So also, we possess whatever the LORD our God has granted us.
Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If the LORD have
stirred thee up against me, let him accept an offering: but if they be the children of men,
cursed be they before the LORD; for they have
driven me out this day from
abiding in the inheritance of the LORD, saying, Go, serve other gods.
Now please, may my lord the king hear the words of his servant: If the LORD has
stirred you up against me, then may He accept an offering. But if men have done it, may they be
cursed in the presence of the LORD! For
today they have
driven me away from sharing in the inheritance of the LORD, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods.’
And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.
There were even male
shrine prostitutes in the land. They imitated all the abominations of the nations the LORD had
driven out before the Israelites.
And he did very
abominably in following idols, according to all things as did the
Amorites, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.
He committed the most
detestable acts by going after idols, just like the
Amorites whom the LORD had
driven out before the Israelites.)
And a certain man drew a bow at a
venture, and
smote the king of Israel between the joints of the
harness: wherefore he said unto the
driver of his
chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.
However, a certain man drew his bow without taking special aim, and he struck the king of Israel between the joints of his
armor. So the king said to his
charioteer, “Turn around and take me out of the battle, for I am badly wounded!”
Then she
saddled an
ass, and said to her servant,
Drive, and go forward;
slack not thy riding for me, except I
bid thee.
And the
watchman told, saying, He came even unto them, and cometh not again: and the driving is like the driving of
Jehu the son of Nimshi; for he
driveth furiously.
Again the
watchman reported, “He reached them, but he is not coming back. And the
charioteer is driving like
Jehu son of Nimshi—he is driving like a
madman!”
But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel,
yea, and made his son to pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel.
Instead, he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel and even sacrificed his son in the fire, according to the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
And walked in the statutes of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made.

And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the heathen whom the LORD carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to
provoke the LORD to anger:

driven out before them. They did wicked things,
provoking the LORD to anger.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.

Have ye not cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the nations of other lands? so that
whosoever cometh to
consecrate himself with a young
bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.
But did you not
drive out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites? And did you not make priests for
yourselves as do the peoples of other lands? Now
whoever comes to
consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams can become a priest of things that are not gods.
Art not thou our God, who
didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?
Our God, did You not
drive out the inhabitants of this land before Your people Israel and give it
forever to the descendants of Abraham Your friend?
Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to
inherit.
See how they are repaying us by coming to drive us out of the possession that You gave us as an inheritance.
Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of
Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
Moreover,
Ahaz burned incense in the Valley of
Hinnom and sacrificed his sons in the fire, according to the abominations of the nations that the LORD had
driven out before the Israelites.
But did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD by following the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
Is not my help in me? and is wisdom driven quite from me?
Is there any help within me now that success is driven from me?
Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet.
He shall be
driven from light into darkness, and
chased out of the world.
He is
driven from light into darkness and is
chased from the inhabited world.
They
drive away the
ass of the fatherless, they take the widow’s ox for a
pledge.
They
drive away the
donkey of the fatherless and take the widow’s ox in
pledge.
They were
driven forth from among men, (they
cried after them as after a
thief;)
They were children of fools,
yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth.
A senseless and nameless
brood, they were
driven off the land.
Terrors are turned upon me: they pursue my soul as the wind: and my
welfare passeth away as a cloud.
Terrors are turned loose against me; they drive away my dignity as by the wind, and my prosperity has passed like a cloud.
Thou liftest me up to the wind; thou causest me to
ride upon it, and dissolvest my substance.
You
snatch me up into the wind and
drive me before it; You
toss me about in the storm.
He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.
He scorns the
tumult of the city and never hears the shouts of a
driver.
The ungodly are not so: but are like the
chaff which the wind
driveth away.
Not so the wicked! For they are like
chaff driven off by the wind.
Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.
Declare them guilty, O God; let them fall by their own devices. Drive them out for their many transgressions, for they have rebelled against You.
Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that
devise my
hurt.
May those who seek my life be disgraced and put to shame; may those who plan to
harm me be
driven back and confounded.
Let them be as
chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD
chase them.
May they be like
chaff in the wind, as the angel of the LORD
drives them away.
Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked remove me.
Let not the foot of the proud come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away.
Let them be
ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be
driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil.
How thou
didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou
didst afflict the people, and cast them out.
With Your hand You drove out the nations and planted our fathers there; You
crushed the peoples and cast them out.
As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.
As smoke is
blown away, You will
drive them out; as wax melts before the fire, the wicked will perish in the presence of God.
The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back.
The sea observed and fled; the Jordan turned back;
What
ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou
wast driven back?
Why was it, O sea, that you fled, O Jordan, that you turned back,
The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.
The wicked man is thrown down by his own sin, but the righteous man has a refuge even in death.
He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.
A worker’s
appetite works for him because his hunger
drives him
