And one of the same place answered and said, But who is their
father? Therefore it became a
proverb, Is Saul also among the prophets?
Then a man who lived there replied, “And who is their
father?” So the saying became a
proverb: “Is Saul also among the prophets?”
And Samuel said unto the people, It is the LORD that advanced Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.
Then Samuel said to the people, “The LORD is the One who appointed Moses and Aaron, and who brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.
Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD of all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers.
Now present
yourselves, so that I may
confront you before the LORD with all the righteous acts He has done for you and your
fathers.
When Jacob was come into Egypt, and your
fathers cried unto the LORD, then the LORD sent Moses and Aaron, which brought forth your
fathers out of Egypt, and made them dwell in this place.
When Jacob went to Egypt, your
fathers cried out to the LORD, and He sent them Moses and Aaron, who brought your
fathers out of Egypt and settled them in this place.
But if ye will not obey the voice of the LORD, but
rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you, as it was against your
fathers.
But if you disobey the LORD and
rebel against His command, then the hand of the LORD will be against you as it was against your
fathers.
Now it came to pass upon a day, that
Jonathan the son of Saul said unto the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over to the Philistines’ garrison, that is on the other side. But he told not his
father.
One day
Jonathan son of Saul said to the young man bearing his
armor, “Come, let us cross over to the
Philistine outpost on the other side.” But
Jonathan did not tell his
father.
But
Jonathan heard not when his
father charged the people with the oath: wherefore he put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand, and
dipped it in an
honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes were
enlightened.
Jonathan, however, had not heard that his
father had charged the people with the oath. So he reached out the end of the staff in his hand,
dipped it into the
honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes
brightened.
Then answered one of the people, and said, Thy
father straitly charged the people with an oath, saying,
Cursed be the man that eateth any food this day. And the people were
faint.
Then one of the soldiers told him, “Your
father bound the troops with a solemn oath, saying, ‘
Cursed is the man who eats food
today.’ That is why the people are
faint.”
Then said
Jonathan, My
father hath troubled the land: see, I pray you, how mine eyes have been
enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.
“My
father has brought trouble to the land,”
Jonathan replied. “Just look at how my eyes have
brightened because I tasted a little of this honey.
And
Kish was the
father of Saul; and
Ner the
father of
Abner was the son of Abiel.
Saul’s
father Kish and
Abner’s
father Ner were sons of Abiel.
But Saul and the people
spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the
fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was
vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.
Saul and his troops
spared Agag, along with the best of the sheep and cattle, the
fat calves and lambs, and the best of everything else. They were unwilling to destroy them, but they devoted to destruction all that was
despised and worthless.
And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to
hearken than the
fat of rams.
But Samuel declared: “Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obedience to His voice? Behold, obedience is better than sacrifice, and
attentiveness is better than the
fat of rams.
But David went and returned from Saul to feed his
father’s sheep at
Bethlehem.
but David went back and forth from Saul to tend his
father’s sheep in
Bethlehem.
And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to
defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will
enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his
father’s house free in Israel.
Now the men of Israel had been saying, “Do you see this man who keeps coming out to
defy Israel? To the man who kills him the king will give great riches. And he will give him his daughter in marriage and
exempt his
father’s house from taxation in Israel.”
And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:
David replied, “Your servant has been tending his father’s sheep, and whenever a lion or a bear came and carried off a lamb from the flock,
And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father’s house.
And from that day Saul kept David with him and did not let him return to his father’s house.
And David said unto Saul, Who am I? and what is my life, or my father’s family in Israel, that I should be son in law to the king?
And David said to Saul, “Who am I, and what is my family or my father’s clan in Israel, that I should become the son-in-law of the king?”
But
Jonathan Saul’s son delighted much in David: and
Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my
father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take
heed to
thyself until the morning, and
abide in a secret place, and hide
thyself:
so he
warned David, saying, “My
father Saul intends to kill you. Be on your guard in the morning; find a secret place and hide there.
And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou art, and I will commune with my father of thee; and what I see, that I will tell thee.
I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are, so I can ask about you. And if I find out anything, I will tell you.”
And
Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his
father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not
sinned against thee, and because his works have been to thee-ward very good:
Then
Jonathan spoke well of David to his
father Saul and said to him, “The king should not sin against his servant David; he has not
sinned against you. In fact, his actions have been highly
beneficial to you.
And David fled from Naioth in
Ramah, and came and said before
Jonathan, What have I done? what is mine iniquity? and what is my sin before thy
father, that he seeketh my life?
Then David fled from Naioth in
Ramah. He came to
Jonathan and asked, “What have I done? What is my iniquity? How have I
sinned against your
father, that he wants to take my life?”
And he said unto him, God
forbid; thou shalt not die: behold, my
father will do nothing either great or small, but that he will
shew it me: and why should my
father hide this thing from me? it is not so.
“Far from it!”
Jonathan replied. “You will not die. Indeed, my
father does nothing, great or small, without telling me. So why would he hide this matter from me? This cannot be true!”
And David
sware moreover, and said, Thy
father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not
Jonathan know this, lest he be
grieved: but truly as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.
But David again
vowed, “Your
father knows very well that I have found favor in your eyes, and he has said, ‘
Jonathan must not know of this, or he will be
grieved.’ As surely as the LORD lives and as you
yourself live, there is but a step between me and death.”
If thy
father at all miss me, then say, David earnestly asked leave of me that he might run to
Bethlehem his city: for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family.
If your
father misses me at all, tell him, ‘David
urgently requested my permission to
hurry to
Bethlehem, his hometown, because there is an annual sacrifice for his whole clan.’
Therefore thou shalt deal kindly with thy servant; for thou hast brought thy servant into a covenant of the LORD with thee: notwithstanding, if there be in me iniquity,
slay me
thyself; for why shouldest thou bring me to thy
father?
Therefore deal faithfully with your servant, for you have brought me into a covenant with you before the LORD. If there is iniquity in me, then kill me
yourself; why should you bring me to your
father?”
And
Jonathan said, Far be it from thee: for if I knew certainly that evil were determined by my
father to come upon thee, then would not I tell it thee?
“Never!”
Jonathan replied. “If I ever found out that my
father had evil intentions against you, would I not tell you?”
Then said David to
Jonathan, Who shall tell me? or what if thy
father answer thee roughly?
Then David asked
Jonathan, “Who will tell me if your
father answers you harshly?”
And
Jonathan said unto David, O LORD God of Israel, when I have sounded my
father about to
morrow any time, or the third day, and, behold, if there be good toward David, and I then send not unto thee, and
shew it thee;
and
Jonathan said, “By the LORD, the God of Israel, I will sound out my
father by this time
tomorrow or the next day. If he is favorable toward you, will I not send for you and tell you?
The LORD do so and much more to
Jonathan: but if it please my
father to do thee evil, then I will
shew it thee, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace: and the LORD be with thee, as he hath been with my
father.
But if my
father intends to bring evil on you, then may the LORD
punish me, and ever so severely, if I do not tell you and send you on your way in safety. May the LORD be with you, just as He has been with my
father.
And
Jonathan answered Saul his
father, and said unto him, Wherefore shall he be slain? what hath he done?
“Why must he be put to death?”
Jonathan replied. “What has he done?”
So
Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and did eat no meat the second day of the month: for he was
grieved for David, because his
father had done him shame.
Jonathan got up from the table in fierce anger and did not eat any food that second day of the month, for he was
grieved by his
father’s shameful treatment of David.
David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave
Adullam: and when his brethren and all his
father’s house heard it, they went down thither to him.
So David left
Gath and took refuge in the cave of
Adullam. When his brothers and the rest of his
father’s household heard about it, they went down to him there.
And David went thence to Mizpeh of Moab: and he said unto the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth, and be with you, till I know what God will do for me.
From there David went to Mizpeh of Moab, where he said to the king of Moab, “Please let my father and mother stay with you until I learn what God will do for me.”
Then the king sent to call
Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his
father’s house, the priests that were in
Nob: and they came all of them to the king.
Then the king sent messengers to
summon Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and his
father’s whole family, who were priests at
Nob. And all of them came to the king.
Did I then begin to
enquire of God for him? be it far from me: let not the king
impute any thing unto his servant, nor to all the house of my
father: for thy servant knew nothing of all this, less or more.
Was that day the first time I inquired of God for him? Far be it from me! Let not the king
accuse your servant or any of my
father’s household, for your servant knew nothing of this whole
affair—not in part or in whole.”
And the king said, Thou shalt surely die,
Ahimelech, thou, and all thy
father’s house.
But the king replied, “You will surely die,
Ahimelech, you and all your
father’s house!”
And David said unto
Abiathar, I knew it that day, when Doeg the
Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul: I have occasioned the death of all the persons of thy
father’s house.
Then David said to
Abiathar, “I knew that Doeg the
Edomite was there that day, and that he was sure to tell Saul. I myself am responsible for the lives of
everyone in your
father’s house.
And he said unto him, Fear not: for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee; and that also Saul my father knoweth.
saying, “Do not be afraid, for my father Saul will never lay a hand on you. And you will be king over Israel, and I will be your second-in-command. Even my father Saul knows this is true.”
Moreover, my
father, see,
yea, see the
skirt of thy
robe in my hand: for in that I cut off the
skirt of thy
robe and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor
transgression in mine hand, and I have not
sinned against thee; yet thou huntest my soul to take it.
See, my
father, look at the corner of your
robe in my hand. For I cut it off, but I did not kill you. See and know that there is no evil or rebellion in my hands. I have not
sinned against you, even though you are hunting me down to take my life.
Swear now therefore unto me by the LORD, that thou
wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou
wilt not destroy my name out of my
father’s house.
So now,
swear to me by the LORD that you will not cut off my descendants or
wipe out my name from my
father’s house.”
And the woman had a
fat calf in the house; and she hasted, and killed it, and took flour, and
kneaded it, and did
bake unleavened bread thereof:
From the blood of the slain, from the
fat of the mighty, the bow of
Jonathan turned not back, and the sword of Saul returned not empty.
From the blood of the slain, from the
fat of the mighty, the bow of
Jonathan did not retreat, and the sword of Saul did not return empty.
And they took up
Asahel, and buried him in the
sepulchre of his
father, which was in
Bethlehem. And
Joab and his men went all night, and they came to
Hebron at break of day.
And Saul had a
concubine, whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah: and
Ish-bosheth said to
Abner, Wherefore hast thou gone in unto my
father’s
concubine?
Meanwhile, Saul had a
concubine named Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah. So
Ish-bosheth questioned
Abner, “Why did you sleep with my
father’s
concubine?”
Then was
Abner very
wroth for the words of
Ish-bosheth, and said, Am I a dog’s head, which against Judah do
shew kindness this day unto the house of Saul thy
father, to his brethren, and to his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David, that thou chargest me to day with a fault concerning this woman?
Abner was
furious over
Ish-bosheth’s
accusation. “Am I the head of a dog that belongs to Judah?” he asked. “All this time I have been
loyal to the house of your
father Saul, to his brothers, and to his friends. I have not delivered you into the hand of David, but now you
accuse me of
wrongdoing with this woman!
Let it rest on the head of
Joab, and on all his
father’s house; and let there not fail from the house of
Joab one that hath an issue, or that is a
leper, or that leaneth on a staff, or that falleth on the sword, or that lacketh bread.
May it
whirl over the heads of
Joab and the entire house of his
father, and may the house of
Joab never be without one having a discharge or skin disease, or one who leans on a staff or falls by the sword or lacks food.”
And it was so, that when they that bare the ark of the LORD had gone six paces, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings.
When those carrying the ark of the LORD had advanced six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a
fattened calf.
And David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, which chose me before thy
father, and before all his house, to
appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel: therefore will I play before the LORD.
But David said to Michal, “I was dancing before the LORD, who chose me over your
father and all his house when He appointed me ruler over the LORD’s people Israel. I will
celebrate before the LORD,
And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy
fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy
bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
And when your days are fulfilled and you rest with your
fathers, I will raise up your
descendant after you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom.
I will be his
father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will
chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:
I will be his Father, and he will be My son. When he does wrong, I will discipline him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men.
And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely
shew thee kindness for
Jonathan thy
father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy
father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.
“Do not be afraid,” said David, “for surely I will show you kindness for the sake of your
father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land of your
grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.”
Then said David, I will
shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his
father shewed kindness unto me. And David sent to comfort him by the hand of his servants for his
father. And David’s servants came into the land of the children of
Ammon.
And David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, just as his
father showed kindness to me.” So David sent some of his servants to
console Hanun concerning his
father. But when they arrived in the land of the
Ammonites,
And the princes of the children of
Ammon said unto Hanun their lord, Thinkest thou that David
doth honour thy
father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? hath not David rather sent his servants unto thee, to search the city, and to
spy it out, and to overthrow it?
the princes of the
Ammonites said to Hanun their lord, “Just because David has sent you comforters, do you really believe he is showing respect for your
father? Has not David instead sent his servants to
explore the city,
spy it out, and overthrow it?”
And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make
thyself sick: and when thy
father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.
Jonadab told him, “Lie down on your bed and pretend you are ill. When your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘Please let my sister Tamar come and give me something to eat. Let her prepare it in my sight so I may watch her and eat it from her hand.’”
And the woman of Tekoah said unto the king, My lord, O king, the iniquity be on me, and on my father’s house: and the king and his throne be guiltless.
But the woman of Tekoa said to the king, “My lord the king, may any
blame be on me and on my
father’s house, and may the king and his throne be guiltless.”
But if thou return to the city, and say unto
Absalom, I will be thy servant, O king; as I have been thy
father’s servant hitherto, so will I now also be thy servant: then mayest thou for me defeat the counsel of
Ahithophel.
But you can
thwart the counsel of
Ahithophel for me if you return to the city and say to
Absalom: ‘I will be your servant, my king; in the past I was your
father’s servant, but now I will be your servant.’
And the king said, And where is thy master’s son? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he abideth at Jerusalem: for he said,
Today shall the house of Israel restore me the kingdom of my
father.
“Where is your master’s grandson?” asked the king. And Ziba answered, “Indeed, he is staying in Jerusalem, for he has said, ‘
Today, the house of Israel will restore to me the kingdom of my
grandfather.’”
And again, whom should I serve? should I not serve in the presence of his son? as I have served in thy father’s presence, so will I be in thy presence.
Furthermore, whom should I serve if not the son? As I served in your
father’s presence, so also I will serve in yours.”
And
Ahithophel said unto
Absalom, Go in unto thy
father’s concubines, which he hath left to keep the house; and all Israel shall hear that thou art
abhorred of thy
father: then shall the hands of all that are with thee be strong.
Ahithophel replied, “Sleep with your
father’s concubines, whom he has left to keep the palace. When all Israel hears that you have become a
stench to your
father, then the hands of all who are with you will be strengthened.”
So they spread
Absalom a tent upon the top of the house; and
Absalom went in unto his
father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel.
So they pitched a tent for
Absalom on the roof, and he
slept with his
father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel.
For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy
father and his men, that they be mighty men, and they be
chafed in their minds, as a bear
robbed of her whelps in the field: and thy
father is a man of war, and will not
lodge with the people.
He continued, “You know your
father and his men. They are mighty men, and as fierce as a wild bear
robbed of her cubs. Moreover, your
father is a man of war who will not
spend the night with the troops.
And he also that is
valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, shall utterly
melt: for all Israel knoweth that thy
father is a mighty man, and they which be with him are
valiant men.
Then even the most
valiant soldier with the heart of a lion will
melt with fear, because all Israel knows that your
father is a mighty man who has
valiant men with him.
And when
Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he
saddled his
ass, and arose, and
gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and
hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the
sepulchre of his
father.
When
Ahithophel saw that his advice had not been followed, he
saddled his
donkey and set out for his house in his hometown. He put his affairs in order and
hanged himself. So he died and was buried in his
father’s tomb.
For all of my
father’s house were but dead men before my lord the king: yet
didst thou set thy servant among them that did eat at thine own table. What right therefore have I yet to cry any more unto the king?
For all the house of my
grandfather deserves death from my lord the king, yet you have set your servant among those who eat at your table. What further right, then, do I have to keep appealing to the king?”
Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, and be buried by the grave of my father and of my mother. But behold thy servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto thee.
Please let your servant return, that I may die in my own city near the tomb of my father and mother. But here is your servant Chimham. Let him cross over with my lord the king, and do for him what is good in your sight.”
And the bones of Saul and
Jonathan his son buried they in the country of Benjamin in Zelah, in the
sepulchre of
Kish his
father: and they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was intreated for the land.
And they buried the bones of Saul and his son
Jonathan in Zela in the land of Benjamin, in the tomb of Saul’s
father Kish. After they had done everything the king had commanded, God answered their prayers for the land.
And David spake unto the LORD when he saw the angel that
smote the people, and said, Lo, I have
sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my
father’s house.
When David saw the angel striking down the people, he said to the LORD, “Surely I, the
shepherd, have
sinned and acted wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done? Please, let Your hand fall upon me and my
father’s house.”
And his
father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after
Absalom.
(His
father had never once
reprimanded him by saying, “Why do you act this way?” Adonijah was also very handsome, born next after
Absalom.)
And Adonijah
slew sheep and oxen and
fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by En-rogel, and called all his brethren the king’s sons, and all the men of Judah the king’s servants:
And Adonijah sacrificed sheep, oxen, and
fattened calves near the stone of Zoheleth, which is next to En-rogel. He invited all his royal brothers and all the men of Judah who were servants of the king.
And he hath slain oxen and
fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the sons of the king, and
Abiathar the priest, and
Joab the captain of the host: but Solomon thy servant hath he not called.
And he has sacrificed an abundance of oxen,
fattened calves, and sheep, and has invited all the other sons of the king, as well as
Abiathar the priest and
Joab the commander of the army. But he did not
invite your servant Solomon.
Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.
Otherwise, when my lord the king rests with his fathers, I and my son Solomon will be counted as criminals.”
For he is gone down this day, and hath slain oxen and
fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the king’s sons, and the captains of the host, and
Abiathar the priest; and, behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, God save king Adonijah.
For
today he has gone down and sacrificed an abundance of oxen,
fattened calves, and sheep, and has invited all the sons of the king, the commanders of the army, and
Abiathar the priest. And behold, they are eating and drinking before him, saying, ‘Long live King Adonijah!’
So David
slept with his
fathers, and was buried in the city of David.
Then David rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David.
Then sat Solomon upon the throne of David his father; and his kingdom was established greatly.
So Solomon sat on the throne of his father David, and his kingdom was firmly established.
Now therefore, as the LORD liveth, which hath established me, and set me on the throne of David my father, and who hath made me an house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day.
And now, as surely as the LORD lives—the One who established me, who set me on the throne of my
father David, and who founded for me a dynasty as He promised—surely Adonijah shall be put to death
today!”
And unto
Abiathar the priest said the king, Get thee to Anathoth, unto thine own fields; for thou art worthy of death: but I will not at this time put thee to death, because thou barest the ark of the Lord GOD before David my
father, and because thou hast been
afflicted in all wherein my
father was
afflicted.
Then the king said to
Abiathar the priest, “Go back to your fields in Anathoth. Even though you deserve to die, I will not put you to death at this time, since you carried the ark of the Lord GOD before my
father David, and you suffered through all that my
father suffered.”
And the king said unto him, Do as he hath said, and fall upon him, and
bury him; that thou mayest take away the innocent blood, which
Joab shed, from me, and from the house of my
father.
And the king replied, “Do just as he says. Strike him down and
bury him, and so remove from me and from the house of my
father the innocent blood that
Joab shed.
And the LORD shall return his blood upon his own head, who fell upon two men more righteous and better than he, and
slew them with the sword, my
father David not knowing thereof, to wit,
Abner the son of
Ner, captain of the host of Israel, and
Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the host of Judah.
The LORD will bring his
bloodshed back upon his own head, for without the knowledge of my
father David he struck down two men more righteous and better than he when he put to the sword
Abner son of
Ner, commander of Israel’s army, and
Amasa son of Jether, commander of Judah’s army.
The king said moreover to Shimei, Thou knowest all the wickedness which thine heart is privy to, that thou
didst to David my
father: therefore the LORD shall return thy wickedness upon thine own head;
The king also said, “You know in your heart all the evil that you did to my father David. Therefore the LORD will bring your evil back upon your head.
And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.
And Solomon loved the LORD and walked in the statutes of his father David, except that he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.
And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
Solomon replied, “You have shown much loving devotion to Your servant, my father David, because he walked before You in faithfulness, righteousness, and uprightness of heart. And You have maintained this loving devotion by giving him a son to sit on his throne this very day.
And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.
And now, O LORD my God, You have made Your servant king in my father David’s place. But I am only a little child, not knowing how to go out or come in.
And if thou
wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy
father David did walk, then I will
lengthen thy days.
So if you walk in My ways and keep My statutes and commandments, just as your
father David did, I will
prolong your days.”

And
Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had
anointed him king in the room of his
father: for
Hiram was ever a lover of David.
Now when
Hiram king of Tyre heard that Solomon had been
anointed king in his
father’s place, he sent envoys to Solomon; for
Hiram had always been a friend of David.
Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.
“As you are well aware, due to the wars
waged on all sides against my
father David, he could not build a house for the Name of the LORD his God until the LORD had put his enemies under his feet.
And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.
So behold, I plan to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God, according to what the LORD said to my father David: ‘I will put your son on your throne in your place, and he will build the house for My Name.’
Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou
wilt walk in my statutes, and
execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy
father:
“As for this temple you are building, if you walk in My statutes, carry out My ordinances, and keep all My commandments by walking in them, I will
fulfill through you the promise I made to your
father David.
He was a widow’s son of the tribe of
Naphtali, and his
father was a man of Tyre, a worker in brass: and he was filled with wisdom, and understanding, and
cunning to work all works in brass. And he came to king Solomon, and wrought all his work.
He was the son of a widow from the tribe of
Naphtali, and his
father was a man of Tyre, a
craftsman in bronze. Huram had great skill, understanding, and knowledge for every kind of bronze work. So he came to King Solomon and carried out all his work.
So was ended all the work that king Solomon made for the house of the LORD. And Solomon brought in the things which David his father had dedicated; even the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, did he put among the treasures of the house of the LORD.
So all the work that King Solomon had performed for the house of the LORD was completed. Then Solomon brought in the items his
father David had dedicated—the silver, the gold, and the furnishings—and he placed them in the
treasuries of the house of the LORD.
Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the
fathers of the children of Israel, unto king Solomon in Jerusalem, that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is
Zion.
At that time Solomon assembled before him in Jerusalem the elders of Israel—all the
tribal heads and family leaders of the Israelites—to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from
Zion, the City of David.
And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which spake with his mouth unto David my father, and hath with his hand fulfilled it, saying,
and said: “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who has fulfilled with His own hand what He spoke with His mouth to my father David, saying,
And it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
And the LORD said unto David my
father, Whereas it was in thine heart to build an house unto my name, thou
didst well that it was in thine heart.
But the LORD said to my father David, ‘Since it was in your heart to build a house for My Name, you have done well to have this in your heart.
And the LORD hath performed his word that he spake, and I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
Now the LORD has fulfilled the word that He spoke. I have succeeded my father David, and I sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised. I have built the house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
And I have set there a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.
And there I have provided a place for the ark, which contains the covenant of the LORD that He made with our fathers when He brought them out of the land of Egypt.”
Who hast kept with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him: thou spakest also with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.
You have kept Your promise to Your servant, my father David. What You spoke with Your mouth You have fulfilled with Your hand this day.
Therefore now, LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my
father that thou promisedst him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel; so that thy children take
heed to their way, that they walk before me as thou hast walked before me.
Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk before Me as you have done.’
And now, O God of Israel, let thy word, I pray thee, be
verified, which thou spakest unto thy servant David my
father.
And now, O God of Israel, please
confirm what You promised to Your servant, my
father David.
