And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed
from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the LORD, and pitched in
Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.
Then the whole congregation of Israel left the Desert of Sin, moving
from place to place as the LORD commanded. They camped at
Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a
memorial in a book, and
rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the
remembrance of Amalek
from under heaven.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write this on a
scroll as a reminder and
recite it to Joshua, because I will utterly
blot out the memory of Amalek
from under heaven.”
For he said, Because the LORD hath
sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek
from generation to generation.
“Indeed,” he said, “a hand was lifted up toward the throne of the LORD. The LORD will war against Amalek from generation to generation.”
And the name of the other was
Eliezer; for the God of my father, said he, was mine help, and delivered me
from the sword of Pharaoh:
The other son was named
Eliezer, for Moses had said, “The God of my father was my helper and delivered me
from the sword of Pharaoh.”
And Jethro
rejoiced for all the goodness which the LORD had done to Israel, whom he had delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians.
And Jethro
rejoiced over all the good things the LORD had done for Israel, whom He had
rescued from the hand of the Egyptians.
And Jethro said, Blessed be the LORD, who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh, who hath delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.
Jethro declared, “Blessed be the LORD, who has delivered you from the hand of the Egyptians and of Pharaoh, and who has delivered the people from the hand of the Egyptians.
And it came to pass on the
morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses
from the morning unto the evening.
The next day Moses took his seat to judge the people, and they stood around him from morning until evening.
And when Moses’ father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou
thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee
from morning unto even?
When his father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he asked, “What is this that you are doing for the people? Why do you sit alone as judge, with all the people standing around you from morning till evening?”
Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth,
hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of
fifties, and rulers of tens:
And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of
fifties, and rulers of tens.
So Moses chose capable men
from all Israel and made them heads over the people as leaders of thousands, of hundreds, of
fifties, and of tens.
For they were departed
from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of
Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.
After they had set out
from Rephidim, they entered the Wilderness of
Sinai, and Israel camped there in front of the mountain.
And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;
Then Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain, “This is what you are to tell the house of Jacob and explain to the sons of Israel:
And Moses went down
from the mount unto the people, and
sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.
When Moses came down from the mountain to the people, he consecrated them, and they washed their clothes.
And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.
“Do not be afraid,” Moses replied. “For God has come to test you, so that the fear of Him may be before you, to keep you
from sinning.”
And the LORD said unto Moses, Thus thou shalt say unto the children of Israel, Ye have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “This is what you are to tell the Israelites: ‘You have seen for
yourselves that I have spoken to you
from heaven.
But if a man come
presumptuously upon his neighbour, to
slay him with
guile; thou shalt take him
from mine altar, that he may die.
But if a man schemes and acts
willfully against his
neighbor to kill him, you must take him away
from My altar to be put to death.
If men
strive, and
hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart
from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.
If men who are fighting strike a
pregnant woman and her child is born
prematurely, but there is no further injury, he shall surely be fined as the woman’s husband demands and as the court allows.
If a man shall cause a field or
vineyard to be eaten, and shall put in his beast, and shall feed in another man’s field; of the best of his own field, and of the best of his own
vineyard, shall he make
restitution.
If a man shall deliver unto his neighbour money or stuff to keep, and it be
stolen out of the man’s house; if the
thief be found, let him pay double.
If a man gives his
neighbor money or goods for safekeeping and they are
stolen from the
neighbor’s house, the
thief, if caught, must pay back double.
And if a man
borrow ought of his neighbour, and it be
hurt, or die, the owner thereof being not with it, he shall surely make it good.
If a man borrows an animal
from his
neighbor and it is injured or dies while its owner is not present, he must make full
restitution.
Thou shalt not delay to offer the first of thy ripe fruits, and of thy liquors: the
firstborn of thy sons shalt thou give unto me.
You must not hold back offerings
from your
granaries or vats. You are to give Me the
firstborn of your sons.
Keep thee far
from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous
slay thou not: for I will not
justify the wicked.
Stay far away
from a false
accusation. Do not kill the innocent or the just, for I will not
acquit the guilty.
But the seventh year thou shalt let it rest and lie still; that the poor of thy people may eat: and what they leave the beasts of the field shall eat. In like manner thou shalt deal with thy
vineyard, and with thy oliveyard.
but in the seventh year you must let it rest and lie
fallow, so that the poor among your people may eat
from the field and the wild animals may
consume what they leave. Do the same with your
vineyard and olive
grove.
Thou shalt keep the feast of
unleavened bread: (thou shalt eat
unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded thee, in the time appointed of the month
Abib; for in it thou camest out
from Egypt: and none shall appear before me empty:)
You are to keep the Feast of
Unleavened Bread as I commanded you: At the appointed time in the month of
Abib you are to eat
unleavened bread for seven days, because that was the month you came out of Egypt. No one may appear before Me empty-handed.
And the feast of harvest, the firstfruits of thy labours, which thou hast sown in the field: and the feast of ingathering, which is in the end of the year, when thou hast gathered in thy labours out of the field.
You are also to keep the Feast of Harvest with the firstfruits of the produce
from what you
sow in the field. And keep the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you gather your produce
from the field.
And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall
bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away
from the midst of thee.
So you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will
bless your bread and your water. And I will take away sickness
from among you.
And I will send hornets before thee, which shall drive out the Hivite, the
Canaanite, and the Hittite,
from before thee.
I will not drive them out
from before thee in one year; lest the land become
desolate, and the beast of the field multiply against thee.
I will not drive them out before you in a single year; otherwise the land would become
desolate and wild animals would multiply against you.
By little and little I will drive them out
from before thee, until thou be increased, and
inherit the land.
Little by little I will drive them out
ahead of you, until you become fruitful and possess the land.
And I will set thy bounds from the Red sea even unto the sea of the Philistines, and from the desert unto the river: for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand; and thou shalt drive them out before thee.
And I will establish your borders from the Red Sea to the Sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the Euphrates. For I will deliver the inhabitants into your hand, and you will drive them out before you.
And the glory of the LORD abode upon mount
Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud.
and the glory of the LORD settled on Mount
Sinai. For six days the cloud covered it, and on the seventh day the LORD called to Moses
from within the cloud.
Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering.
“Tell the Israelites to bring Me an offering. You are to receive My offering from every man whose heart compels him.
And this is the offering which ye shall take of them; gold, and silver, and brass,
This is the offering you are to accept from them: gold, silver, and bronze;
The
staves shall be in the rings of the ark: they shall not be taken
from it.
The poles are to remain in the rings of the ark; they must not be removed.
And make one
cherub on the one end, and the other
cherub on the other end: even of the mercy seat shall ye make the cherubims on the two ends thereof.
one
cherub on one end and one on the other, all made
from one piece of gold.
And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.
And I will meet with you there above the mercy seat, between the two
cherubim that are over the ark of the Testimony; I will speak with you about all that I command you regarding the Israelites.
And six branches shall come out of the sides of it; three branches of the
candlestick out of the one side, and three branches of the
candlestick out of the other side:
Six branches are to extend from the sides of the lampstand—three on one side and three on the other.
Three
bowls made like unto almonds, with a
knop and a flower in one branch; and three
bowls made like almonds in the other branch, with a
knop and a flower: so in the six branches that come out of the
candlestick.
There are to be three cups shaped like
almond blossoms on the first branch, each with buds and petals, three on the next branch, and the same for all six branches that extend
from the lampstand.
And there shall be a
knop under two branches of the same, and a
knop under two branches of the same, and a
knop under two branches of the same, according to the six branches that proceed out of the
candlestick.
For the six branches that extend
from the lampstand, a
bud must be under the first pair of branches, a
bud under the second pair, and a
bud under the third pair.
Of a talent of pure gold shall he make it, with all these vessels.
The lampstand and all these utensils shall be made from a talent of pure gold.
And thou shalt make loops of blue upon the edge of the one
curtain from the
selvedge in the coupling; and likewise shalt thou make in the
uttermost edge of another
curtain, in the coupling of the second.
Make loops of blue material on the edge of the end
curtain in the first set, and do the same for the end
curtain in the second set.
And they shall be coupled together beneath, and they shall be coupled together above the head of it unto one ring: thus shall it be for them both; they shall be for the two corners.
coupled together from bottom to top and fitted into a single ring. These will serve as the two corners.
And the middle bar in the midst of the boards shall reach from end to end.
The central
crossbar in the middle of the frames shall extend
from one end to the other.
And thou shalt
hang up the
vail under the taches, that thou mayest bring in thither within the
vail the ark of the testimony: and the
vail shall divide unto you between the holy place and the most holy.
And
hang the
veil from the clasps and place the ark of the Testimony behind the
veil. So the
veil will separate the Holy Place
from the Most Holy Place.
In the tabernacle of the congregation without the
vail, which is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall order it
from evening to morning before the LORD: it shall be a statute for ever unto their generations on the behalf of the children of Israel.
In the Tent of Meeting, outside the
veil that is in front of the Testimony, Aaron and his sons are to tend the lamps before the LORD
from evening until morning. This is to be a permanent statute for the Israelites for the generations to come.
And take thou unto thee Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him,
from among the children of Israel, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office, even Aaron,
Nadab and
Abihu,
Eleazar and
Ithamar, Aaron’s sons.
“Next, have your brother Aaron brought to you
from among the Israelites, along with his sons
Nadab,
Abihu,
Eleazar, and
Ithamar, to serve Me as priests.
The rings of the breastpiece shall be
tied to the rings of the
ephod with a cord of blue yarn, so that the breastpiece is above the
waistband of the
ephod and does not
swing out
from the
ephod.
And thou shalt make them linen
breeches to cover their nakedness;
from the loins even unto the thighs they shall reach:
Make linen undergarments to cover their bare flesh, extending
from waist to
thigh.
Also thou shalt take of the ram the fat and the
rump, and the fat that covereth the inwards, and the
caul above the liver, and the two
kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and the right shoulder; for it is a ram of
consecration:
Take the fat
from the ram, the fat tail, the fat covering the
entrails, the
lobe of the liver, both
kidneys with the fat on them, and the right
thigh (since this is a ram for
ordination),
And thou shalt receive them of their hands, and burn them upon the altar for a burnt offering, for a sweet savour before the LORD: it is an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
Then take them
from their hands and burn them on the altar
atop the burnt offering as a pleasing
aroma before the LORD; it is an offering made by fire to the LORD.
And thou shalt
sanctify the breast of the wave offering, and the shoulder of the
heave offering, which is waved, and which is
heaved up, of the ram of the
consecration, even of that which is for Aaron, and of that which is for his sons:
Consecrate for Aaron and his sons the breast of the wave offering that is waved and the
thigh of the
heave offering that is lifted up
from the ram of
ordination.
And it shall be Aaron’s and his sons’ by a statute for ever
from the children of Israel: for it is an
heave offering: and it shall be an
heave offering
from the children of Israel of the sacrifice of their peace offerings, even their
heave offering unto the LORD.
This will belong to Aaron and his sons as a regular portion
from the Israelites, for it is the
heave offering the Israelites will make to the LORD
from their peace offerings.
And with the one lamb a tenth deal of flour mingled with the fourth part of an
hin of beaten oil; and the fourth part of an
hin of wine for a drink offering.
With the first lamb offer a tenth of an
ephah of fine flour, mixed with a quarter
hin of oil
from pressed olives, and a drink offering of a quarter
hin of wine.
Every one that passeth among them that are numbered, from twenty years old and above, shall give an offering unto the LORD.
Everyone twenty years of age or older who crosses over must give this offering to the LORD.
And thou shalt take the
atonement money of the children of Israel, and shalt
appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; that it may be a
memorial unto the children of Israel before the LORD, to make an
atonement for your souls.
Take the
atonement money
from the Israelites and use it for the service of the Tent of Meeting. It will serve as a
memorial for the Israelites before the LORD to make
atonement for your lives.”
Whosoever compoundeth any like it, or
whosoever putteth any of it upon a stranger, shall even be cut off
from his people.
Anyone who mixes
perfume like it or puts it on an outsider shall be cut off
from his people.’”
Whosoever shall make like unto that, to smell
thereto, shall even be cut off
from his people.
Anyone who makes something like it to enjoy its
fragrance shall be cut off
from his people.”
Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for
whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off
from among his people.
Keep the Sabbath, for it is holy to you.
Anyone who profanes it must surely be put to death.
Whoever does any work on that day must be cut off
from among his people.
And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we
wot not what is become of him.
Now when the people saw that Moses was delayed in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, “Come, make us gods who will go before us. As for this Moses who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has happened to him!”
And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a
molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
He took the gold
from their hands, and with an engraving tool he fashioned it into a
molten calf. And they said, “These, O Israel, are your gods, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!”
They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a
molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed
thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
How quickly they have turned aside
from the way that I commanded them! They have made for themselves a
molten calf and have bowed down to it. They have sacrificed to it and said, ‘These, O Israel, are your gods, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.’”
Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to
slay them in the mountains, and to
consume them
from the face of the earth? Turn
from thy fierce wrath, and
repent of this evil against thy people.
Why should the Egyptians declare, ‘He brought them out with evil intent, to kill them in the mountains and
wipe them
from the face of the earth’? Turn
from Your fierce anger and relent
from doing
harm to Your people.
And the LORD
repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.
So the LORD relented
from the
calamity He had threatened to bring on His people.
And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony were in his hand: the tables were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written.
Then Moses turned and went down the mountain with the two tablets of the Testimony in his hands. They were inscribed on both sides, front and back.
And he said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out
from gate to gate throughout the camp, and
slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour.
He told them, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Each of you men is to
fasten his sword to his side, go back and forth through the camp
from gate to gate, and
slay his brother, his friend, and his
neighbor.’”
For the LORD had said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, Ye are a stiffnecked people: I will come up into the midst of thee in a moment, and
consume thee: therefore now put off thy ornaments
from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee.
For the LORD had said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. If I should go with you for a single moment, I would destroy you. Now take off your
jewelry, and I will decide what to do with you.’”
And the children of Israel
stripped themselves of their ornaments by the mount
Horeb.
And Moses took the tabernacle, and pitched it without the camp,
afar off
from the camp, and called it the Tabernacle of the congregation. And it came to pass, that every one which sought the LORD went out unto the tabernacle of the congregation, which was without the camp.
Now Moses used to take the tent and pitch it at a distance outside the camp. He called it the Tent of Meeting, and
anyone inquiring of the LORD would go to the Tent of Meeting outside the camp.
And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.
“If Your Presence does not go with us,” Moses replied, “do not lead us up from here.
For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.
For how then can it be known that Your people and I have found favor in Your sight, unless You go with us? How else will we be distinguished from all the other people on the face of the earth?”
The feast of
unleavened bread shalt thou keep. Seven days thou shalt eat
unleavened bread, as I commanded thee, in the time of the month
Abib: for in the month
Abib thou camest out
from Egypt.
You are to keep the Feast of
Unleavened Bread. For seven days at the appointed time in the month of
Abib, you are to eat
unleavened bread as I commanded you. For in the month of
Abib you came out of Egypt.
Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with
leaven; neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the
passover be left unto the morning.
Do not offer the blood of a sacrifice to Me along with anything
leavened, and do not let any of the sacrifice
from the
Passover Feast remain until morning.
And it came to pass, when Moses came down
from mount
Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down
from the mount, that Moses
wist not that the skin of his face
shone while he talked with him.
And when Moses came down
from Mount
Sinai with the two tablets of the Testimony in his hands, he was unaware that his face had become
radiant from speaking with the LORD.
Take ye
from among you an offering unto the LORD:
whosoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it, an offering of the LORD; gold, and silver, and brass,
Take
from among you an offering to the LORD. Let
everyone whose heart is willing bring an offering to the LORD: gold, silver, and bronze;
And all the congregation of the children of Israel departed from the presence of Moses.
Then the whole congregation of Israel withdrew from the presence of Moses.
And they received of Moses all the offering, which the children of Israel had brought for the work of the service of the sanctuary, to make it
withal. And they brought yet unto him free offerings every morning.
They received
from Moses all the contributions that the Israelites had brought to carry out the service of constructing the sanctuary. Meanwhile, the people continued to bring
freewill offerings morning after morning,
And all the wise men, that wrought all the work of the sanctuary, came every man from his work which they made;
so that all the skilled
craftsmen who were doing all the work on the sanctuary left their work
And Moses gave commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying, Let neither man nor woman make any more work for the offering of the sanctuary. So the people were restrained from bringing.
After Moses had given an order, they sent a
proclamation throughout the camp: “No man or woman should make anything else as an offering for the sanctuary.” So the people were restrained
from bringing more,
And he made loops of blue on the edge of one
curtain from the
selvedge in the coupling: likewise he made in the
uttermost side of another
curtain, in the coupling of the second.
He made loops of blue material on the edge of the end
curtain in the first set, and also on the end
curtain in the second set.
One board had two tenons, equally distant one from another: thus did he make for all the boards of the tabernacle.
Two tenons were connected to each other for each frame. He made all the frames of the tabernacle in this way.
And they were coupled beneath, and coupled together at the head thereof, to one ring: thus he did to both of them in both the corners.
coupled together from bottom to top and fitted into a single ring. He made both corners in this way.
And he made the middle bar to shoot through the boards from the one end to the other.
He made the central
crossbar to run through the center of the frames,
from one end to the other.
One
cherub on the end on this side, and another
cherub on the other end on that side: out of the mercy seat made he the cherubims on the two ends thereof.
one
cherub on one end and one on the other, all made
from one piece of gold.
And six branches going out of the sides thereof; three branches of the
candlestick out of the one side thereof, and three branches of the
candlestick out of the other side thereof:
Six branches extended from the sides, three on one side and three on the other.
Three
bowls made after the fashion of almonds in one branch, a
knop and a flower; and three
bowls made like almonds in another branch, a
knop and a flower: so throughout the six branches going out of the
candlestick.
There were three cups shaped like
almond blossoms on the first branch, each with buds and petals, three on the next branch, and the same for all six branches that extended
from the lampstand.
And a
knop under two branches of the same, and a
knop under two branches of the same, and a
knop under two branches of the same, according to the six branches going out of it.
A
bud was under the first pair of branches that extended
from the lampstand, a
bud under the second pair, and a
bud under the third pair.
Of a talent of pure gold made he it, and all the vessels thereof.
He made the lampstand and all its utensils from a talent of pure gold.
And he made the altar of burnt offering of
shittim wood: five cubits was the length thereof, and five cubits the breadth thereof; it was
foursquare; and three cubits the height thereof.
Bezalel constructed the altar of burnt offering
from acacia wood. It was square, five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high.
And he made for the altar a
brasen grate of network under the compass thereof beneath unto the midst of it.
And he made the
laver of brass, and the foot of it of brass, of the lookingglasses of the women
assembling, which assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
Next he made the bronze basin and its stand from the mirrors of the women who served at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
All the gold that was occupied for the work in all the work of the holy place, even the gold of the offering, was twenty and nine talents, and seven hundred and thirty shekels, after the
shekel of the sanctuary.
All the gold
from the wave offering used for the work on the sanctuary totaled 29 talents and 730 shekels, according to the sanctuary
shekel.
And the silver of them that were numbered of the congregation was an hundred talents, and a thousand seven hundred and
threescore and fifteen shekels, after the
shekel of the sanctuary:
The silver
from those numbered among the congregation totaled 100 talents and 1,775 shekels, according to the sanctuary
shekel—
A
bekah for every man, that is, half a
shekel, after the
shekel of the sanctuary, for every one that went to be numbered,
from twenty years old and upward, for six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty men.
a beka per person, that is, half a
shekel, according to the sanctuary
shekel,
from everyone twenty years of age or older who had crossed over to be numbered, a total of 603,550 men.
And of the hundred talents of silver were cast the sockets of the sanctuary, and the sockets of the
vail; an hundred sockets of the hundred talents, a talent for a
socket.
The hundred talents of silver were used to cast the bases of the sanctuary and the bases of the
veil—100 bases
from the 100 talents, one talent per base.
And the brass of the offering was seventy talents, and two thousand and four hundred shekels.
The bronze from the wave offering totaled 70 talents and 2,400 shekels.
And of the blue, and purple, and scarlet, they made cloths of service, to do service in the holy place, and made the holy garments for Aaron; as the LORD commanded Moses.
From the blue, purple, and scarlet yarn they made specially
woven garments for ministry in the sanctuary, as well as the holy garments for Aaron, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
And they did beat the gold into thin plates, and cut it into wires, to work it in the blue, and in the purple, and in the scarlet, and in the fine linen, with
cunning work.
They hammered out thin sheets of gold and cut threads
from them to
interweave with the blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and fine linen—the work of a skilled
craftsman.
