I pray thee, let me go over, and see the
good land that is beyond Jordan, that
goodly mountain, and
Lebanon.
Please let me cross over and see the
good land beyond the Jordan—that pleasant hill country as well as
Lebanon!”
Take ye therefore
good heed unto
yourselves; for ye saw no manner of
similitude on the day that the LORD spake unto you in
Horeb out of the midst of the fire:
So since you saw no form of any kind on the day the LORD spoke to you out of the fire at
Horeb, be careful
Furthermore the LORD was
angry with me for your sakes, and
sware that I should not go over Jordan, and that I should not go in unto that
good land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance:
The LORD, however, was
angry with me on account of you, and He
swore that I would not cross the Jordan to enter the
good land that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance.
But I must die in this land, I must not go over Jordan: but ye shall go over, and possess that good land.
For I will not be crossing the Jordan, because I must die in this land. But you shall cross over and take possession of that good land.
And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he
sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and
goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,
And when the LORD your God brings you into the land He
swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, that He would give you—a land with great and splendid cities that you did not build,
And houses full of all
good things, which thou filledst not, and wells
digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;
with houses full of every
good thing with which you did not fill them, with wells that you did not
dig, and with vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant—and when you eat and are satisfied,
And thou shalt do that which is right and
good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the
good land which the LORD
sware unto thy fathers,
Do what is right and
good in the sight of the LORD, so that it may be well with you and that you may enter and possess the
good land that the LORD your God
swore to give your fathers,
And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.
And the LORD commanded us to observe all these statutes and to fear the LORD our God, that we may always be prosperous and preserved, as we are to this day.
For the LORD thy God bringeth thee into a
good land, a land of
brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills;
For the LORD your God is bringing you into a
good land, a land of
brooks and fountains and springs that flow through the valleys and hills;
When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt
bless the LORD thy God for the
good land which he hath given thee.
When you eat and are satisfied, you are to
bless the LORD your God for the
good land that He has given you.
Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein;
Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses in which to dwell,
Who fed thee in the wilderness with
manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee
good at thy latter end;
He fed you in the wilderness with
manna that your fathers had not known, in order to humble you and test you, so that in the end He might cause you to
prosper.
Understand therefore, that the LORD thy God giveth thee not this good land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiffnecked people.
Understand, then, that it is not because of your righteousness that the LORD your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stiff-necked people.
To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?
and to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD that I am giving you this day for your own good?
And then the LORD’S wrath be
kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and lest ye perish quickly from off the
good land which the LORD giveth you.
or the anger of the LORD will be
kindled against you. He will shut the heavens so that there will be no rain, nor will the land yield its produce, and you will soon perish from the
good land that the LORD is giving you.
Observe and hear all these words which I command thee, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee for ever, when thou doest that which is good and right in the sight of the LORD thy God.
Be careful to obey all these things I command you, so that it may always go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is good and right in the eyes of the LORD your God.
And thou shalt
rejoice in every
good thing which the LORD thy God hath given unto thee, and unto thine house, thou, and the
Levite, and the stranger that is among you.
So you shall
rejoice—you, the
Levite, and the foreigner dwelling among you—in all the
good things the LORD your God has given to you and your household.
And the LORD shall make thee
plenteous in
goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD
sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
The LORD will make you
prosper abundantly—in the fruit of your
womb, the offspring of your
livestock, and the produce of your land—in the land that the LORD
swore to your fathers to give you.
The LORD shall open unto thee his
good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to
bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt
lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not
borrow.
The LORD will open the heavens, His abundant
storehouse, to send rain on your land in season and to
bless all the work of your hands. You will
lend to many nations, but
borrow from none.
And it shall come to pass, that as the LORD
rejoiced over you to do you
good, and to multiply you; so the LORD will
rejoice over you to destroy you, and to bring you to
nought; and ye shall be
plucked from off the land
whither thou goest to possess it.
Just as it pleased the LORD to make you
prosper and multiply, so also it will please Him to
annihilate you and destroy you. And you will be uprooted from the land you are entering to possess.
And the LORD thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers.
And the LORD your God will bring you into the land your fathers possessed, and you will take possession of it. He will cause you to
prosper and multiply more than your fathers.
And the LORD thy God will make thee
plenteous in every work of thine hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy land, for
good: for the LORD will again
rejoice over thee for
good, as he
rejoiced over thy fathers:
So the LORD your God will make you abound in all the work of your hands and in the fruit of your
womb, the offspring of your
livestock, and the produce of your land. Indeed, the LORD will again delight in your
goodness, as He delighted in that of your fathers,
See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;
See, I have set before you
today life and
goodness, as well as death and
disaster.
Be strong and of a
good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that
doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor
forsake thee.
Be strong and
courageous; do not be afraid or
terrified of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you; He will never leave you nor
forsake you.”
And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a
good courage: for thou must go with this people unto the land which the LORD hath
sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to
inherit it.
Then Moses called for Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and
courageous, for you will go with this people into the land that the LORD
swore to their fathers to give them, and you shall give it to them as an inheritance.
And he gave Joshua the son of
Nun a charge, and said, Be strong and of a
good courage: for thou shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which I
sware unto them: and I will be with thee.
Then the LORD commissioned Joshua son of
Nun and said, “Be strong and
courageous, for you will bring the Israelites into the land that I
swore to give them, and I will be with you.”
And for the precious things of the earth and
fulness thereof, and for the
good will of him that dwelt in the
bush: let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the top of the head of him that was separated from his brethren.
with the choice gifts of the land and everything in it, and with the favor of Him who dwelt in the burning
bush. May these rest on the head of Joseph and crown the
brow of the prince of his brothers.
Be strong and of a
good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I
sware unto their fathers to give them.
Be strong and
courageous, for you shall give these people the inheritance of the land that I
swore to their fathers I would give them.
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt
meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have
good success.
This Book of the Law must not depart from your mouth;
meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. For then you will
prosper and succeed in all you do.
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a
good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee
whithersoever thou goest.
Have I not commanded you to be strong and
courageous? Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
Whosoever he be that
doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not
hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a
good courage.
Anyone who rebels against your order and does not obey your words, all that you command him, will be put to death. Above all, be strong and
courageous!”
When I saw among the spoils a
goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a
wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I
coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are
hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.
When I saw among the spoils a beautiful
cloak from
Shinar, two hundred shekels of silver, and a bar of gold weighing fifty shekels, I
coveted them and took them. They are hidden in the ground inside my tent, with the silver
underneath.”
And now, behold, we are in thine hand: as it seemeth good and right unto thee to do unto us, do.
Now we are in your hands. Do to us whatever seems good and right to you.”
And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.
“Do not be afraid or discouraged,” Joshua said. “Be strong and
courageous, for the LORD will do this to all the enemies you fight.”
There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.
Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to the house of Israel had failed; everything was fulfilled.
Take
good heed therefore unto
yourselves, that ye love the LORD your God.
Therefore watch
yourselves carefully, that you love the LORD your God.
Know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive out any of these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and
traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this
good land which the LORD your God hath given you.
know for sure that the LORD your God will no longer drive out these nations before you. Instead, they will become for you a
snare and a
trap, a
scourge in your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this
good land that the LORD your God has given you.
And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof.
Now behold,
today I am going the way of all the earth, and you know with all your heart and soul that not one of the
good promises the LORD your God made to you has failed. Everything was fulfilled for you; not one promise has failed.
Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all good things are come upon you, which the LORD your God promised you; so shall the LORD bring upon you all evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you.
But just as every
good thing the LORD your God promised you has come to pass, likewise the LORD will bring upon you the
calamity He has threatened, until He has destroyed you from this
good land He has given you.
When ye have
transgressed the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed
yourselves to them; then shall the anger of the LORD be
kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the
good land which he hath given unto you.
If you
transgress the covenant of the LORD your God, which He commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them, then the anger of the LORD will burn against you, and you will quickly perish from this
good land He has given you.”
If ye
forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you
hurt, and
consume you, after that he hath done you
good.
If you
forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, He will turn and bring
disaster on you and
consume you, even after He has been
good to you.”
And
Gideon the son of
Joash died in a
good old age, and was buried in the
sepulchre of
Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abi-ezrites.
Later,
Gideon son of
Joash died at a ripe old age and was buried in the tomb of his father
Joash in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
Neither shewed they kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, namely,
Gideon, according to all the
goodness which he had shewed unto Israel.
They did not show kindness to the house of Jerubbaal (that is,
Gideon) for all the
good things he had done for Israel.
But the fig tree said unto them, Should I
forsake my sweetness, and my
good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees?
But the fig tree replied, ‘Should I stop giving my sweetness and my
good fruit, to hold
sway over the trees?’
And the children of Israel said unto the LORD, We have
sinned: do thou unto us
whatsoever seemeth
good unto thee; deliver us only, we pray thee, this day.
“We have
sinned,” the Israelites said to the LORD. “Deal with us as You see fit; but please deliver us
today!”
Then said
Micah, Now know I that the LORD will do me
good, seeing I have a
Levite to my priest.
Then
Micah said, “Now I know that the LORD will be
good to me, because a
Levite has become my priest.”
And they said, Arise, that we may go up against them: for we have seen the land, and, behold, it is very
good: and are ye still? be not
slothful to go, and to enter to possess the land.
They answered, “Come on, let us go up against them, for we have seen the land, and it is very
good. Why would you fail to act? Do not
hesitate to go there and take possession of the land!
And when they were a
good way from the house of
Micah, the men that were in the houses near to
Micah’s house were gathered together, and overtook the children of
Dan.
After they were some distance from
Micah’s house, the men in the houses near
Micah’s house
mobilized and overtook the Danites.
Behold, here is my daughter a
maiden, and his
concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth
good unto you: but unto this man do not so
vile a thing.
Look, let me bring out my virgin daughter and the man’s
concubine, and you can use them and do with them as you wish. But do not do such a
vile thing to this man.”
And they lifted up their voice, and
wept again: and Orpah
kissed her mother in law; but
Ruth clave unto her.
And
Naomi said unto
Ruth her daughter in law, It is
good, my daughter, that thou go out with his maidens, that they meet thee not in any other field.
And
Naomi said to her daughter-in-law
Ruth, “My daughter, it is
good for you to work with his young women, so that nothing will happen to you in another field.”
And when Boaz had eaten and
drunk, and his heart was
merry, he went to lie down at the end of the
heap of corn: and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid her down.
After Boaz had finished eating and drinking and was in
good spirits, he went to lie down at the end of the
heap of grain. Then
Ruth went in secretly, uncovered his feet, and lay down.
Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a
kinsman, well; let him do the
kinsman’s part: but if he will not do the part of a
kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a
kinsman to thee, as the LORD liveth: lie down until the morning.
Stay here
tonight, and in the morning, if he wants to
redeem you,
good. Let him
redeem you. But if he does not want to
redeem you, as surely as the LORD lives, I will. Now lie here until morning.”
And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee
good;
tarry until thou have
weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son
suck until she
weaned him.
“Do what you think is best,” her husband Elkanah replied, “and stay here until you have
weaned him. Only may the LORD
confirm His word.” So
Hannah stayed and
nursed her son until she had
weaned him.
Nay, my sons; for it is no
good report that I hear: ye make the LORD’S people to
transgress.
No, my sons; it is not a
good report I hear
circulating among the LORD’s people.
And thou shalt see an enemy in my
habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever.
You will see distress in My dwelling place.
Despite all that is
good in Israel, no one in your house will ever again reach old age.
And Samuel told him every
whit, and
hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what seemeth him
good.
So Samuel told him everything and did not hide a thing from him. “He is the LORD,” replied
Eli. “Let Him do what is
good in His eyes.”
And he will take your menservants, and your maidservants, and your
goodliest young men, and your
asses, and put them to his work.
And he will take your menservants and maidservants and your best cattle and
donkeys and put them to his own use.
And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people.
And he had a son named Saul, choice and handsome, without equal among the Israelites—a head taller than any of the people.
Then said Saul to his servant, Well said; come, let us go. So they went unto the city where the man of God was.
“Good,” said Saul to his servant. “Come, let us go.” So they set out for the city where the man of God was.
Therefore the men of
Jabesh said, To
morrow we will come out unto you, and ye shall do with us all that seemeth
good unto you.
Then the men of
Jabesh said to Nahash, “
Tomorrow we will come out, and you can do with us whatever seems
good to you.”
Moreover as for me, God
forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the
good and the right way:
As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by ceasing to pray for you. And I will continue to teach you the good and right way.
And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and
spoil them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do
whatsoever seemeth
good unto thee. Then said the priest, Let us draw near
hither unto God.
And Saul said, “Let us go down after the Philistines by night and
plunder them until
dawn, leaving no man alive!” “Do what seems
good to you,” the troops replied. But the priest said, “We must
consult God here.”
Then said he unto all Israel, Be ye on one side, and I and
Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And the people said unto Saul, Do what seemeth
good unto thee.
Then Saul said to all Israel, “You stand on one side, and I and my son
Jonathan will stand on the other side.” “Do what seems
good to you,” the troops replied.
But Saul and the people
spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was
good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was
vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.
Saul and his troops
spared Agag, along with the best of the sheep and cattle, the fat
calves and lambs, and the best of everything else. They were unwilling to destroy them, but they devoted to destruction all that was
despised and worthless.
And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was
ruddy, and
withal of a beautiful countenance, and
goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise,
anoint him: for this is he.
So
Jesse sent for his youngest son and brought him in. He was
ruddy, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And the LORD said, “Rise and
anoint him, for he is the one.”
And
Jonathan spake
good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not
sinned against thee, and because his works have been to thee-ward very
good:
Then
Jonathan spoke well of David to his father Saul and said to him, “The king should not sin against his servant David; he has not
sinned against you. In fact, his actions have been highly
beneficial to you.
If he say thus, It is well; thy servant shall have peace: but if he be very
wroth, then be sure that evil is determined by him.
If he says, ‘
Good,’ then your servant is safe, but if he is
enraged, you will know he has evil intentions.
And
Jonathan said unto David, O LORD God of Israel, when I have sounded my father about to
morrow any time, or the third day, and, behold, if there be
good toward David, and I then send not unto thee, and
shew it thee;
and
Jonathan said, “By the LORD, the God of Israel, I will sound out my father by this time
tomorrow or the next day. If he is favorable toward you, will I not send for you and tell you?
And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the LORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem
good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the
skirt of Saul’s
robe privily.
So David’s men said to him, “This is the day about which the LORD said to you, ‘Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, that you may do with him as you wish.’” Then David
crept up secretly and cut off a corner of Saul’s
robe.
And he said to David, Thou art more righteous than I: for thou hast rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded thee evil.
and said to David, “You are more righteous than I, for you have rewarded me with good, though I have rewarded you with evil.
For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore the LORD reward thee good for that thou hast done unto me this day.
When a man finds his enemy, does he let him go away
unharmed? May the LORD reward you with
good for what you have done for me this day.
Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife
Abigail: and she was a woman of
good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was
churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of the house of
Caleb.
His name was Nabal, and his wife’s name was
Abigail. She was an intelligent and beautiful woman, but her husband, a Calebite, was harsh and evil in his dealings.
Ask thy young men, and they will
shew thee. Wherefore let the young men find favour in thine eyes: for we come in a
good day: give, I pray thee,
whatsoever cometh to thine hand unto thy servants, and to thy son David.
Ask your young men, and they will tell you. So let my young men find favor with you, for we have come on the day of a feast. Please give whatever you can afford to your servants and to your son David.’”
But the men were very
good unto us, and we were not
hurt, neither missed we any thing, as long as we were
conversant with them, when we were in the fields:
Yet these men were very
good to us. When we were in the field, we were not
harassed, and nothing of ours went missing the whole time we lived among them.
Now David had said, Surely in vain have I kept all that this fellow hath in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that
pertained unto him: and he hath requited me evil for
good.
Now David had just finished saying, “In vain I have protected all that belonged to this man in the wilderness. Nothing that belongs to him has gone missing, yet he has paid me back evil for good.
And it shall come to pass, when the LORD shall have done to my lord according to all the good that he hath spoken concerning thee, and shall have appointed thee ruler over Israel;
When the LORD has done for my lord all the good He promised, and when He has appointed you ruler over Israel,
This thing is not
good that thou hast done. As the LORD liveth, ye are worthy to die, because ye have not kept your master, the LORD’S
anointed. And now see where the king’s
spear is, and the
cruse of water that was at his
bolster.
This thing you have done is not
good. As surely as the LORD lives, all of you deserve to die, since you did not protect your lord, the LORD’s
anointed. Now look around. Where are the king’s
spear and water
jug that were by his head?”
Then Achish called David, and said unto him, Surely, as the LORD liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host is good in my sight: for I have not found evil in thee since the day of thy coming unto me unto this day: nevertheless the lords favour thee not.
So Achish summoned David and told him, “As surely as the LORD lives, you have been upright in my sight, and it seems right that you should march in and out with me in the army, because I have found no fault in you from the day you came to me until this day. But you have no favor in the sight of the leaders.
And Achish answered and said to David, I know that thou art good in my sight, as an angel of God: notwithstanding the princes of the Philistines have said, He shall not go up with us to the battle.
Achish replied, “I know that you are as pleasing in my sight as an angel of God. But the commanders of the Philistines have said, ‘He must not go into battle with us.’
And he said, Well; I will make a league with thee: but one thing I require of thee, that is, Thou shalt not see my face, except thou first bring Michal Saul’s daughter, when thou comest to see my face.
“Good,” replied David, “I will make a covenant with you. But there is one thing I require of you: Do not appear before me unless you bring Saul’s daughter Michal when you come to see me.”
And
Abner also spake in the ears of Benjamin: and
Abner went also to speak in the ears of David in
Hebron all that seemed
good to Israel, and that seemed
good to the whole house of Benjamin.
Abner also spoke to the Benjamites and went to
Hebron to tell David all that seemed
good to Israel and to the whole house of Benjamin.
When one told me, saying, Behold, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought
good tidings, I took hold of him, and
slew him in
Ziklag, who thought that I would have given him a reward for his
tidings:
when someone told me, ‘Look, Saul is dead,’ and thought he was a bearer of
good news, I seized him and put him to death at
Ziklag. That was his reward for his news!
And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one a
cake of bread, and a
good piece of flesh, and a
flagon of wine. So all the people departed every one to his house.
Then he distributed to every man and woman among the multitude of Israel a
loaf of bread, a date
cake, and a
raisin cake. And all the people departed, each for his own home.
And now, O Lord GOD, thou art that God, and thy words be true, and thou hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:
And now, O Lord GOD, You are God! Your words are true, and You have promised this goodness to Your servant.
Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the LORD do that which seemeth him good.
Be strong and let us fight
bravely for our people and for the cities of our God. May the LORD do what is
good in His sight.”
And
Absalom spake unto his brother Amnon neither
good nor bad: for
Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.
And
Absalom never said a word to Amnon, either
good or bad, because he
hated Amnon for disgracing his sister Tamar.
Then thine
handmaid said, The word of my lord the king shall now be comfortable: for as an angel of God, so is my lord the king to
discern good and bad: therefore the LORD thy God will be with thee.
And now your servant says, ‘May the word of my lord the king bring me rest, for my lord the king is able to
discern good and evil, just like the angel of God. May the LORD your God be with you.’”
And
Absalom answered
Joab, Behold, I sent unto thee, saying, Come
hither, that I may send thee to the king, to say, Wherefore am I come from Geshur? it had been
good for me to have been there still: now therefore let me see the king’s face; and if there be any iniquity in me, let him kill me.
“Look,” said
Absalom, “I sent for you and said, ‘Come here. I want to send you to the king to ask: Why have I come back from Geshur? It would be better for me if I were still there.’ So now, let me see the king’s face, and if there is iniquity in me, let him kill me.”
And
Absalom said unto him, See, thy matters are
good and right; but there is no man
deputed of the king to hear thee.
Absalom would say, “Look, your claims are
good and right, but the king has no deputy to hear you.”
But if he thus say, I have no delight in thee; behold, here am I, let him do to me as seemeth good unto him.
But if He should say, ‘I do not delight in you,’ then here I am; let Him do to me whatever seems good to Him.”
It may be that the LORD will look on mine
affliction, and that the LORD will requite me
good for his
cursing this day.
And the saying pleased
Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.
This proposal seemed
good to
Absalom and all the elders of Israel.
And Hushai said unto
Absalom, The counsel that
Ahithophel hath given is not
good at this time.
Hushai replied, “This time the advice of
Ahithophel is not sound.”
And
Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of
Ahithophel. For the LORD had appointed to defeat the
good counsel of
Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon
Absalom.
Then
Ahimaaz son of
Zadok said, “Please let me run and tell the king the
good news that the LORD has
avenged him of his enemies.”
And
Joab said unto him, Thou shalt not bear
tidings this day, but thou shalt bear
tidings another day: but this day thou shalt bear no
tidings, because the king’s son is dead.
But
Joab replied, “You are not the man to take
good news
today. You may do it another day, but you must not do so
today, because the king’s son is dead.”
And the
watchman cried, and told the king. And the king said, If he be alone, there is
tidings in his mouth. And he came
apace, and drew near.
So he called out and told the king. “If he is alone,” the king replied, “he bears
good news.” As the first
runner drew near,
And the
watchman saw another man running: and the
watchman called unto the porter, and said, Behold another man running alone. And the king said, He also bringeth
tidings.
the
watchman saw another man running, and he called out to the gatekeeper, “Look! Another man is running alone!” “This one also brings
good news,” said the king.
And the
watchman said, Me thinketh the running of the foremost is like the running of
Ahimaaz the son of
Zadok. And the king said, He is a
good man, and cometh with
good tidings.
The
watchman said, “The first man appears to me to be running like
Ahimaaz son of
Zadok.” “This is a
good man,” said the king. “He comes with
good news.”
