I also told them about the
gracious hand of my God upon me, and what the king had said to me. “Let us start rebuilding,” they replied, and they set their
hands to this good work.

Sanballat his servant unto me in like manner the fifth time with an open letter in his

For they all made us afraid, saying, Their
hands shall be
weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God,
strengthen my
hands.
For they were all trying to
frighten us, saying, “Their
hands will be
weakened in the work, and it will never be finished.” But now, my God,
strengthen my
hands.

Ezra the
scribe stood upon a

hand; and on his left
hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana,
Zechariah, and Meshullam.

And madest known unto them thy holy sabbath, and commandedst them precepts, statutes, and laws, by the hand of Moses thy servant:
You revealed to them Your holy Sabbath and gave them commandments and statutes and laws through Your servant Moses.
So the children went in and possessed the land, and thou subduedst before them the inhabitants of the land, the
Canaanites, and gavest them into their
hands, with their kings, and the people of the land, that they might do with them as they would.
So their descendants went in and possessed the land; You subdued before them the
Canaanites dwelling in the land. You delivered into their
hands the kings and peoples of the land, to do with them as they wished.
Therefore thou deliveredst them into the
hand of their enemies, who
vexed them: and in the time of their trouble, when they
cried unto thee, thou heardest them from heaven; and according to thy
manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours, who saved them out of the
hand of their enemies.
So You delivered them into the
hands of enemies who
oppressed them, and in their time of distress they
cried out to You. From heaven You heard them, and in Your great
compassion You gave them deliverers who saved them from the
hands of their enemies.
But after they had rest, they did evil again before thee: therefore leftest thou them in the
hand of their enemies, so that they had the dominion over them: yet when they returned, and
cried unto thee, thou heardest them from heaven; and many times
didst thou deliver them according to thy
mercies;
But as soon as they had rest, they again did evil in Your sight. So You abandoned them to the
hands of their enemies, who had dominion over them. When they
cried out to You again, You heard from heaven, and You delivered them many times in Your
compassion.
Yet many years
didst thou
forbear them, and testifiedst against them by thy spirit in thy prophets: yet would they not give ear: therefore gavest thou them into the
hand of the people of the lands.
You were patient with them for many years, and Your Spirit
admonished them through Your prophets. Yet they would not
listen, so You gave them into the
hands of the
neighboring peoples.

thanks,
whereof one went on the right
hand upon the wall toward the dung gate:

thanksgiving choirs. One was to proceed along the top of the wall to the right, toward the Dung Gate.

testified against them, and said unto them, Why
lodge ye about the wall? if ye do so again, I will lay
hands on you. From that time forth came they no more on the sabbath.

warned them, “Why are you camping in front of the wall? If you do it again, I will lay
hands on you.” From that time on, they did not return on the Sabbath.
In those days, while
Mordecai sat in the king’s gate, two of the king’s chamberlains, Bigthan and Teresh, of those which kept the door, were
wroth, and sought to lay
hand on the king
Ahasuerus.
And he thought
scorn to lay
hands on
Mordecai alone; for they had shewed him the people of
Mordecai: wherefore
Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of
Ahasuerus, even the people of
Mordecai.
And when he learned the identity of
Mordecai’s people, he
scorned the notion of laying
hands on
Mordecai alone. Instead, he sought to destroy all of
Mordecai’s people, the Jews, throughout the kingdom of
Xerxes.
If it please the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the
hands of those that have the charge of the business, to bring it into the king’s
treasuries.
If it pleases the king, let a decree be issued to destroy them, and I will deposit ten thousand talents of silver into the royal treasury to pay those who carry it out.”

sceptre.

Esther standing in the court, she found favor in his sight. The king extended the gold

Mordecai had exposed Bigthana and Teresh, two of the eunuchs who guarded the king’s entrance, when they had
conspired to

Xerxes.
And let this
apparel and horse be delivered to the
hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may
array the man
withal whom the king delighteth to honour, and bring him on
horseback through the street of the city, and
proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honour.
Let the
robe and the horse be entrusted to one of the king’s most noble princes. Let them
array the man the king wants to honor and
parade him on the horse through the city square,
proclaiming before him, ‘This is what is done for the man whom the king is delighted to honor!’”

Xerxes, the Jews assembled in their cities to attack those who sought to
harm them. No man could
withstand them, because the fear of them had fallen upon all peoples.
The ten sons of
Haman the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews,
slew they; but on the
spoil laid they not their
hand.
They killed these ten sons of
Haman son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews, but they did not lay a
hand on the
plunder.
For the Jews that were in
Shushan gathered themselves together on the
fourteenth day also of the month
Adar, and
slew three hundred men at
Shushan; but on the prey they laid not their
hand.
On the
fourteenth day of the month of
Adar, the Jews in
Susa came together again and put to death three hundred men there, but they did not lay a
hand on the
plunder.
But the other Jews that were in the king’s provinces gathered themselves together, and stood for their lives, and had rest from their enemies, and
slew of their foes seventy and five thousand, but they laid not their
hands on the prey,

Hast not thou made an
hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his
hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
Have You not placed a
hedge on every side around him and his household and all that he owns? You have blessed the work of his
hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.
But put forth thine
hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will
curse thee to thy face.
But stretch out Your
hand and strike all that he has, and he will surely
curse You to Your face.”
And the LORD said unto
Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine
hand. So
Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.
“Very well,” said the LORD to
Satan. “Everything he has is in your
hands, but you must not lay a
hand on the man himself.” Then
Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.
But put forth thine
hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will
curse thee to thy face.
But stretch out Your
hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely
curse You to Your face.”
And the LORD said unto
Satan, Behold, he is in thine
hand; but save his life.
“Very well,” said the LORD to
Satan. “He is in your
hands, but you must
spare his life.”
But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the
foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the
hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.
“You speak as a
foolish woman speaks,” he told her. “Should we accept from God only good and not
adversity?” In all this, Job did not sin in what he said.
Behold, thou hast
instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak
hands.
Surely you have
instructed many, and have strengthened their feeble
hands.
He disappointeth the devices of the
crafty, so that their
hands cannot perform their enterprise.
He thwarts the schemes of the
crafty, so that their
hands find no success.
But he saveth the poor from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.
He saves the
needy from the sword in their mouth and from the
clutches of the powerful.
For he maketh
sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his
hands make whole.
For He wounds, but He also binds; He strikes, but His
hands also
heal.
Even that it would please God to destroy me; that he would let loose his hand, and cut me off!
that God would be willing to
crush me, to
unleash His
hand and cut me off!
Or, Deliver me from the enemy’s
hand? or,
Redeem me from the
hand of the mighty?
Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth? are not his days also like the days of an
hireling?
“Is not man
consigned to labor on earth? Are not his days like those of a
hired hand?
Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers:
The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?
The earth is given into the hand of the wicked; He blindfolds its judges. If it is not He, then who is it?
If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;
If I should wash myself with snow and
cleanse my
hands with
lye,
Neither is there any
daysman betwixt us, that might lay his
hand upon us both.
Nor is there a
mediator between us, to lay his
hand upon us both.
Is it good unto thee that thou shouldest
oppress, that thou shouldest
despise the work of thine
hands, and
shine upon the counsel of the wicked?
Does it please You to
oppress me, to
reject the work of Your
hands and favor the schemes of the wicked?
Thou knowest that I am not wicked; and there is none that can deliver out of thine hand.
though You know that I am not guilty, and there is no
deliverance from Your
hand?
Thine
hands have made me and fashioned me together round about; yet thou
dost destroy me.
Your hands shaped me and altogether formed me. Would You now turn and destroy me?
If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;
As for you, if you direct your heart and lift up your hands to Him,
If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.
if you put away the iniquity in your hand, and allow no injustice to dwell in your tents,
The tabernacles of robbers
prosper, and they that
provoke God are secure; into whose
hand God bringeth abundantly.
The tents of robbers are safe, and those who
provoke God are secure— those who carry their god in their
hands.
Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?
Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this?
In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.
The life of every living thing is in His hand, as well as the breath of all mankind.
Wherefore do I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in mine hand?
Why do I put myself at risk and take my life in my own hands?
Withdraw thine
hand far from me: and let not thy
dread make me afraid.
Withdraw Your
hand from me, and do not let Your terror
frighten me.
look away from him and let him rest, so he can enjoy his day as a
hired hand.
Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou
wilt have a desire to the work of thine
hands.
You will call, and I will answer; You will desire the work of Your hands.
He wandereth abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
He wanders about as food for vultures; he knows the day of darkness is at hand.
For he stretcheth out his
hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the
Almighty.
For he has stretched out his
hand against God and has
vaunted himself against the
Almighty,
God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.
God has delivered me to unjust men; He has thrown me to the
clutches of the wicked.
Not for any injustice in mine hands: also my prayer is pure.
yet my hands are free of violence and my prayer is pure.
Lay down now, put me in a
surety with thee; who is he that will strike
hands with me?
The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.
Yet a righteous one holds to his way, and the one with clean hands grows stronger.
Have
pity upon me, have
pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the
hand of God hath touched me.
Have
pity on me, my friends, have
pity, for the
hand of God has struck me.
His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.
His sons will seek the favor of the poor, for his own hands must return his wealth.
In the
fulness of his
sufficiency he shall be in straits: every
hand of the wicked shall come upon him.
In the midst of his
plenty, he will be distressed; the full force of misery will come upon him.
Mark me, and be
astonished, and lay your
hand upon your mouth.
Look at me and be
appalled; put your
hand over your mouth.
Lo, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
Still, their prosperity is not in their own hands, so I stay far from the counsel of the wicked.
Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
You sent widows away empty-
handed, and the strength of the fatherless was
crushed.
He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.
He will deliver even one who is not innocent,
rescuing him through the cleanness of your
hands.”
On the left
hand, where he
doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right
hand, that I cannot see him:
When He is at work in the north, I cannot behold Him; when He turns to the south, I cannot see Him.
By his spirit he hath
garnished the heavens; his
hand hath formed the
crooked serpent.
By His breath the
skies were cleared; His
hand pierced the
fleeing serpent.
I will teach you by the
hand of God: that which is with the
Almighty will I not
conceal.
For God shall cast upon him, and not
spare: he would
fain flee out of his
hand.
It hurls itself against him without mercy as he flees
headlong from its power.
Men shall
clap their
hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.
It
claps its
hands at him and hisses him out of his place.
He putteth forth his hand upon the rock; he overturneth the mountains by the roots.
The miner strikes the flint; he overturns mountains at their base.
The princes
refrained talking, and laid their
hand on their mouth.
The princes
refrained from speaking and covered their mouths with their
hands.
My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.
My glory is ever new within me, and my bow is renewed in my hand.’
Yea,
whereto might the strength of their
hands profit me, in whom old age was perished?
What use to me was the strength of their
hands, since their
vigor had left them?
Upon my right
hand rise the youth; they
push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.
The
rabble arises at my right; they lay snares for my feet and build siege ramps against me.
Thou art become cruel to me: with thy strong
hand thou opposest
thyself against me.
Howbeit he will not stretch out his
hand to the grave, though they cry in his destruction.
Yet no one stretches out his
hand to a ruined man when he
cries for help in his distress.
If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any
blot hath
cleaved to mine
hands;
If my steps have turned from the path, if my heart has followed my eyes, or if impurity has
stuck to my
hands,
If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:
if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless because I saw that I had support in the gate,
If I
rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because mine
hand had
gotten much;
if I have
rejoiced in my great wealth because my
hand had gained so much,
And my heart hath been secretly
enticed, or my mouth hath
kissed my
hand:
so that my heart was secretly
enticed and my
hand threw a
kiss from my mouth,
Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.
Surely no fear of me should
terrify you; nor will my
hand be heavy upon you.
How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.
who is not partial to princes and does not favor rich over poor? For they are all the work of His hands.
In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at
midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without
hand.
They die in an instant, in the middle of the night. The people
convulse and pass away; the mighty are removed without human
hand.
For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth his hands among us, and multiplieth his words against God.
For he adds rebellion to his sin; he
claps his
hands among us and multiplies his words against God.”
If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?
If you are righteous, what do you give Him, or what does He receive from your hand?
With clouds he covereth the light; and commandeth it not to
shine by the cloud that cometh
betwixt.
He fills His
hands with
lightning and commands it to strike its mark.
He sealeth up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work.
He seals up the hand of every man, so that all men may know His work.
Behold, I am
vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine
hand upon my mouth.
“Behold, I am insignificant. How can I reply to You? I place my hand over my mouth.
Then will I also
confess unto thee that thine own right
hand can save thee.
Then I will
confess to you that your own right
hand can save you.
Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.
If you lay a
hand on him, you will remember the battle and never
repeat it!
O LORD my God, if I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands;
O LORD my God, if I have done this, if injustice is on my hands,
Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:
You made him ruler of the works of Your hands; You have placed everything under his feet:
The LORD is known by the judgment which he executeth: the wicked is
snared in the work of his own
hands. Higgaion.
Selah.
The LORD is known by the justice He brings; the wicked are ensnared by the work of their
hands. Higgaion
Selah Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up thine
hand:
forget not the humble.
Arise, O LORD! Lift up Your
hand, O God! Do not
forget the helpless.
Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless.
But You have regarded trouble and grief; You see to repay it by Your
hand. The
victim entrusts himself to You; You are the helper of the fatherless.
