And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s
hand. And he said, Go up, say unto
Ahab, Prepare thy
chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.
On the seventh time the servant reported, “There is a cloud as small as a man’s
hand rising from the sea.” And
Elijah replied, “Go and tell
Ahab, ‘Prepare your
chariot and go down before the rain stops you.’”
And the
hand of the LORD was on
Elijah; and he
girded up his loins, and ran before
Ahab to the entrance of
Jezreel.
Yet I will send my servants unto thee to
morrow about this time, and they shall search thine house, and the houses of thy servants; and it shall be, that
whatsoever is pleasant in thine eyes, they shall put it in their
hand, and take it away.
But about this time
tomorrow I will send my servants to search your palace and the houses of your servants. They will seize and carry away all that is precious to you.’”
And Ben-
hadad sent unto him, and said, The gods do so unto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for
handfuls for all the people that follow me.
Then Ben-
hadad sent another message to
Ahab: “May the gods deal with me, and ever so severely, if enough dust remains of Samaria for each of my men to have a
handful.”
And, behold, there came a prophet unto
Ahab king of Israel, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thine
hand this day; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.
Meanwhile a prophet approached
Ahab king of Israel and declared, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Do you see this entire great army? Behold, I will deliver it into your
hand this very day, and you will know that I am the LORD.’”
And there came a man of God, and spake unto the king of Israel, and said, Thus saith the LORD, Because the Syrians have said, The LORD is God of the hills, but he is not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
Then the man of God approached the king of Israel and said, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Because the Arameans think the LORD is a god of the hills and not of the valleys, I will deliver all this great army into your hand. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’”
And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Because thou hast let go out of thy hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people.
And the prophet said to the king, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Because you have let slip from your hand the man I had devoted to destruction, your life will be exchanged for his life, and your people for his people.’”
And the king of Israel said unto his servants, Know ye that
Ramoth in
Gilead is ours, and we be still, and take it not out of the
hand of the king of Syria?
who said to his servants, “Do you not know that
Ramoth-
gilead is ours, but we have failed to take it from the
hand of the king of
Aram?”
Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go against
Ramoth-
gilead to battle, or shall I
forbear? And they said, Go up; for the Lord shall deliver it into the
hand of the king.
So the king of Israel assembled the prophets, about four hundred men, and asked them, “Should I go to war against
Ramoth-
gilead, or should I
refrain?” “Go up,” they replied, “and the Lord will deliver it into the
hand of the king.”
So he came to the king. And the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go against
Ramoth-
gilead to battle, or shall we
forbear? And he answered him, Go, and
prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the
hand of the king.
When Micaiah arrived, the king asked him, “Micaiah, should we go to war against
Ramoth-
gilead, or should we
refrain?” “Go up and triumph,” Micaiah replied, “for the LORD will give it into the
hand of the king.”
And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.
Micaiah continued, “Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing by Him on His right and on His left.
And a certain man drew a bow at a
venture, and
smote the king of Israel between the joints of the
harness: wherefore he said unto the driver of his
chariot, Turn thine
hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.
However, a certain man drew his bow without taking special aim, and he struck the king of Israel between the joints of his
armor. So the king said to his
charioteer, “Turn around and take me out of the battle, for I am badly wounded!”
And the king of Israel said,
Alas! that the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the
hand of Moab!
“
Alas,” said the king of Israel, “for the LORD has summoned these three kings to deliver them into the
hand of Moab!”
But
Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may
enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel’s servants answered and said, Here is
Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the
hands of
Elijah.
But
Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there no prophet of the LORD here? Let us inquire of the LORD through him.” And one of the servants of the king of Israel answered, “
Elisha son of Shaphat is here. He used to pour water on the
hands of
Elijah.”
And
Elisha said unto the king of Israel, What have I to do with thee? get thee to the prophets of thy father, and to the prophets of thy mother. And the king of Israel said unto him,
Nay: for the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the
hand of Moab.
Elisha, however, said to the king of Israel, “What have we to do with each other? Go to the prophets of your father and of your mother!” “No,” replied the king of Israel, “for it is the LORD who has summoned these three kings to deliver them into the
hand of Moab.”
But now bring me a
minstrel. And it came to pass, when the
minstrel played, that the
hand of the LORD came upon him.
And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will deliver the Moabites also into your hand.
This is a simple matter in the sight of the LORD, and He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand.
And
Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine
handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.
“How can I help you?” asked
Elisha. “Tell me, what do you have in the house?” She answered, “Your servant has nothing in the house but a
jar of oil.”
And he said, About this season, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said,
Nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie unto thine
handmaid.
And
Elisha declared, “At this time next year, you will hold a son in your arms.” “No, my lord,” she said. “Do not lie to your
maidservant, O man of God.”
Then he said to Gehazi,
Gird up thy loins, and take my staff in thine
hand, and go thy way: if thou meet any man,
salute him not; and if any
salute thee, answer him not again: and lay my staff upon the face of the child.
So
Elisha said to Gehazi, “
Tie up your garment, take my staff in your
hand, and go! If you meet
anyone, do not
greet him, and if
anyone greets you, do not answer him. Then lay my staff on the boy’s face.”
And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm.
Then
Elisha got on the bed and lay on the boy, mouth to mouth, eye to eye, and
hand to
hand. As he stretched himself out over him, the boy’s body became warm.
But
Naaman was
wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his
hand over the place, and recover the
leper.
But
Naaman went away
angry, saying, “I thought that he would surely come out, stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, and wave his
hand over the spot to cure my
leprosy.
In this thing the LORD
pardon thy servant, that when my master goeth into the house of
Rimmon to worship there, and he leaneth on my
hand, and I bow myself in the house of
Rimmon: when I bow down myself in the house of
Rimmon, the LORD
pardon thy servant in this thing.
Yet may the LORD
forgive your servant this one thing: When my master goes into the temple of
Rimmon to worship there, and he leans on my arm, and I bow down in the temple of
Rimmon, may the LORD
forgive your servant in this matter.”
But Gehazi, the servant of
Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master hath
spared Naaman this
Syrian, in not receiving at his
hands that which he brought: but, as the LORD liveth, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him.
Gehazi, the servant of
Elisha the man of God, said, “Look, my master has
spared this
Aramean,
Naaman, while not accepting what he brought. As surely as the LORD lives, I will run after him and get something from him.”
And when he came to the tower, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house: and he let the men go, and they departed.
When Gehazi came to the hill, he took the gifts from the servants and stored them in the house. Then he dismissed the men, and they departed.
Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.
“Lift it out,” he said, and the man reached out his hand and took it.
Then a lord on whose
hand the king
leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.
But the officer on whose arm the king
leaned answered the man of God, “Look, even if the LORD were to make windows in heaven, could this really happen?” “You will see it with your own eyes,” replied
Elisha, “but you will not eat any of it.”
And the king appointed the lord on whose
hand he
leaned to have the charge of the gate: and the people
trode upon him in the gate, and he died, as the man of God had said, who spake when the king came down to him.
Now the king had appointed the officer on whose arm he
leaned to be in charge of the gate, but the people
trampled him in the
gateway, and he died, just as the man of God had
foretold when the king had come to him.
And the king said unto
Hazael, Take a present in thine
hand, and go, meet the man of God, and
enquire of the LORD by him, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
So the king said to
Hazael, “Take a gift in your
hand, go to meet the man of God, and inquire of the LORD through him, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”
In his days
Edom revolted from under the
hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.
In the days of Jehoram,
Edom rebelled against the
hand of Judah and appointed their own king.
Yet
Edom revolted from under the
hand of Judah unto this day. Then
Libnah revolted at the same time.
So to this day
Edom has been in rebellion against the
hand of Judah. Likewise,
Libnah rebelled at the same time.
And
Elisha the prophet called one of the children of the prophets, and said unto him,
Gird up thy loins, and take this box of oil in thine
hand, and go to
Ramoth-
gilead:
Now
Elisha the prophet summoned one of the sons of the prophets and said to him, “
Tuck your
cloak under your belt, take this
flask of oil, and go to
Ramoth-
gilead.
And thou shalt
smite the house of
Ahab thy master, that I may
avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the LORD, at the
hand of
Jezebel.
And you are to strike down the house of your master
Ahab, so that I may
avenge the blood of My servants the prophets and the blood of all the servants of the LORD shed by the
hand of
Jezebel.
But king
Joram was returned to be
healed in
Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him, when he fought with
Hazael king of Syria.) And
Jehu said, If it be your minds, then let none go forth nor escape out of the city to go to tell it in
Jezreel.
but King
Joram had returned to
Jezreel to recover from the wounds he had suffered at the
hands of the Arameans in the battle against
Hazael their king.) So
Jehu said, “If you commanders wish to make me king, then do not let
anyone escape from the city to go and tell it in
Jezreel.”
And they went to
bury her: but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her
hands.
But when they went out to
bury her, they found nothing but her skull, her feet, and the palms of her
hands.
And when he was departed thence, he lighted on Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him: and he
saluted him, and said to him, Is thine heart right, as my heart is with thy heart? And Jehonadab answered, It is. If it be, give me thine
hand. And he gave him his
hand; and he took him up to him into the
chariot.
When he left there, he found Jehonadab son of Rechab, who was coming to meet him.
Jehu greeted him and asked, “Is your heart as true to mine as my heart is to yours?” “It is!” Jehonadab replied. “If it is,” said
Jehu, “give me your
hand.” So he gave him his
hand, and
Jehu helped him into his
chariot,
And when they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings,
Jehu appointed
fourscore men without, and said, If any of the men whom I have brought into your
hands escape, he that letteth him go, his life shall be for the life of him.
And they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now
Jehu had stationed eighty men outside and
warned them, “If
anyone allows one of the men I am delivering into your
hands to escape, he will
forfeit his life for theirs.”
And ye shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand: and he that cometh within the ranges, let him be slain: and be ye with the king as he goeth out and as he cometh in.
You must
surround the king with weapons in
hand, and
anyone who approaches the ranks must be put to death. You must stay close to the king wherever he goes.”
And the guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, round about the king, from the right corner of the temple to the left corner of the temple, along by the altar and the temple.
And the guards stood with weapons in hand surrounding the king by the altar and the temple, from the south side to the north side of the temple.
And he brought forth the king’s son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and
anointed him; and they
clapped their
hands, and said, God save the king.
Then Jehoiada brought out the king’s son, put the crown on him, presented him with the Testimony, and proclaimed him king. They
anointed him, and the people
clapped their
hands and declared, “Long live the king!”
And they laid hands on her; and she went by the way by the which the horses came into the king’s house: and there was she slain.
So they seized
Athaliah as she reached the horses’ entrance to the palace grounds, and there she was put to death.
Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and the other priests, and said unto them, Why repair ye not the breaches of the house? now therefore receive no more money of your acquaintance, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.
So King
Joash called Jehoiada and the other priests and said, “Why have you not repaired the damage to the temple? Now, therefore, take no more money from your
constituency, but
hand it over for the repair of the temple.”
And they gave the money, being told, into the hands of them that did the work, that had the oversight of the house of the LORD: and they laid it out to the carpenters and builders, that wrought upon the house of the LORD,
Then they would put the counted money into the
hands of those who
supervised the work on the house of the LORD, who in turn would pay those doing the work—the carpenters, builders,
Moreover they reckoned not with the men, into whose hand they delivered the money to be bestowed on workmen: for they dealt faithfully.
No accounting was required from the men who received the money to pay the workmen, because they acted with
integrity.
And the anger of the LORD was
kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the
hand of
Hazael king of Syria, and into the
hand of Ben-
hadad the son of
Hazael, all their days.
So the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He delivered them continually into the
hands of
Hazael king of
Aram and his son Ben-
hadad.
(And the LORD gave Israel a saviour, so that they went out from under the
hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as
beforetime.
So the LORD gave Israel a deliverer, and they escaped the power of the Arameans. Then the people of Israel lived in their own homes as they had before.
And he said to the king of Israel, Put thine
hand upon the bow. And he put his
hand upon it: and
Elisha put his
hands upon the king’s
hands.
Then
Elisha said to the king of Israel, “Put your
hand on the bow.” So the king put his
hand on the bow, and
Elisha put his
hands on the king’s
hands.
And Jehoash the son of
Jehoahaz took again out of the
hand of Ben-
hadad the son of
Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the
hand of
Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times did
Joash beat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.
Then Jehoash son of
Jehoahaz took back from Ben-
hadad son of
Hazael the cities that
Hazael had taken in battle from his father
Jehoahaz. Jehoash defeated Ben-
hadad three times, and so recovered the cities of Israel.
And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was confirmed in his
hand, that he
slew his servants which had slain the king his father.
As soon as the kingdom was firmly in his
grasp,
Amaziah executed the servants who had murdered his father the king.
He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of
Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the LORD God of Israel, which he spake by the
hand of his servant
Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of
Gath-hepher.
This
Jeroboam restored the boundary of Israel from Lebo-
hamath to the Sea of the Arabah, according to the word that the LORD, the God of Israel, had spoken through His servant
Jonah son of Amittai, the prophet from
Gath-hepher.
And the LORD said not that he would
blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the
hand of
Jeroboam the son of
Joash.
and since the LORD had said that He would not
blot out the name of Israel from under heaven, He saved them by the
hand of
Jeroboam son of Jehoash.
And
Pul the king of Assyria came against the land: and Menahem gave
Pul a thousand talents of silver, that his
hand might be with him to
confirm the kingdom in his
hand.
Then
Pul king of Assyria invaded the land, and Menahem gave
Pul a thousand talents of silver in order to gain his support and
strengthen his own
grip on the kingdom.
So
Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, I am thy servant and thy son: come up, and save me out of the
hand of the king of Syria, and out of the
hand of the king of Israel, which rise up against me.
So
Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, “I am your servant and your son. Come up and save me from the
hands of the kings of
Aram and Israel, who are rising up against me.”
For so it was, that the children of Israel had
sinned against the LORD their God, which had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the
hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,
All this happened because the people of Israel had
sinned against the LORD their God, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt from under the
hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. They had worshiped other gods
And the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel, and
afflicted them, and delivered them into the
hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight.
So the LORD rejected all the descendants of Israel. He
afflicted them and delivered them into the
hands of plunderers, until He had banished them from His presence.
But the LORD your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.
but worship the LORD your God, and He will deliver you from the hands of all your enemies.”
Now, behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this
bruised reed, even upon Egypt, on which if a man
lean, it will go into his
hand, and
pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt unto all that trust on him.
Look now, you are trusting in Egypt, that
splintered reed of a staff that will
pierce the
hand of
anyone who leans on it. Such is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.
Thus saith the king, Let not
Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you out of his
hand:
This is what the king says: Do not let
Hezekiah deceive you; he cannot deliver you from my
hand.
Neither let
Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be delivered into the
hand of the king of Assyria.
Do not let
Hezekiah persuade you to trust in the LORD when he says, ‘The LORD will surely deliver us; this city will not be given into the
hand of the king of Assyria.’
Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered at all his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
Has the god of any nation ever delivered his land from the hand of the king of Assyria?
Where are the gods of
Hamath, and of Arpad? where are the gods of
Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah? have they delivered Samaria out of mine
hand?
Where are the gods of
Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of
Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah? Have they delivered Samaria from my
hand?
Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of mine hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of mine hand?
Who among all the gods of these lands has delivered his land from my hand? How then can the LORD deliver Jerusalem from my hand?”
Thus shall ye speak to
Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God in whom thou trustest
deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the
hand of the king of Assyria.
“Give this message to
Hezekiah king of Judah: ‘Do not let your God, in whom you trust,
deceive you by saying that Jerusalem will not be delivered into the
hand of the king of Assyria.
And
Hezekiah received the letter of the
hand of the messengers, and read it: and
Hezekiah went up into the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.
So
Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers, read it, and went up to the house of the LORD and spread it out before the LORD.
And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.
They have cast their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods, but only wood and stone—the work of human hands.
Now therefore, O LORD our God, I
beseech thee, save thou us out of his
hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD God, even thou only.
And now, O LORD our God, please save us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You alone, O LORD, are God.”
And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.
I will add fifteen years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for My sake and for the sake of My servant David.’”
And I will
forsake the
remnant of mine inheritance, and deliver them into the
hand of their enemies; and they shall become a prey and a
spoil to all their enemies;
So I will
forsake the
remnant of My inheritance and deliver them into the
hands of their enemies. And they will become
plunder and
spoil to all their enemies,
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD and walked in all the ways of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right or to the left.
And let them deliver it into the hand of the doers of the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD: and let them give it to the doers of the work which is in the house of the LORD, to repair the breaches of the house,
And let them deliver it into the hands of the supervisors of those doing the work on the house of the LORD, who in turn are to give it to the workmen repairing the damages to the house of the LORD—
Howbeit there was no
reckoning made with them of the money that was delivered into their
hand, because they dealt faithfully.
But they need not account for the money put into their
hands, since they work with
integrity.”
And Shaphan the
scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, Thy servants have gathered the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the
hand of them that do the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD.
And Shaphan the
scribe went to the king and reported, “Your servants have paid out the money that was found in the temple and have put it into the
hands of the workers and supervisors of the house of the LORD.”
Because they have
forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might
provoke me to anger with all the works of their
hands; therefore my wrath shall be
kindled against this place, and shall not be
quenched.
because they have
forsaken Me and burned incense to other gods, that they might
provoke Me to anger with all the works of their
hands. My wrath will be
kindled against this place and will not be
quenched.’
And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and
defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beer-
sheba, and
brake down the high places of the gates that were in the entering in of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man’s left
hand at the gate of the city.
Then
Josiah brought all the priests from the cities of Judah and
desecrated the high places, from Geba to
Beersheba, where the priests had burned incense. He
tore down the high places of the gates at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which was to the left of the city gate.
And the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right
hand of the mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had builded for
Ashtoreth the
abomination of the Zidonians, and for
Chemosh the
abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the
abomination of the children of
Ammon, did the king
defile.
And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest
bless me indeed, and
enlarge my coast, and that thine
hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not
grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
And Jabez called out to the God of Israel, “If only You would
bless me and
enlarge my territory! May Your
hand be with me and keep me from
harm, so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted the request of Jabez.
And in the days of Saul they made war with the Hagarites, who fell by their
hand: and they dwelt in their tents throughout all the east land of
Gilead.
During the days of Saul they
waged war against the Hagrites, who were defeated at their
hands, and they occupied the homes of the Hagrites throughout the region east of
Gilead.
And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their
hand, and all that were with them: for they
cried to God in the battle, and he was intreated of them; because they put their trust in him.
And because they
cried out to God in battle, they were helped against their enemies, and the Hagrites and all their allies were delivered into their
hands. Because they put their trust in God, He answered their prayers.
And Jehozadak went into captivity, when the LORD carried away Judah and Jerusalem by the
hand of
Nebuchadnezzar.
Jehozadak went into captivity when the LORD sent Judah and Jerusalem into exile by the
hand of
Nebuchadnezzar.
And his brother
Asaph, who stood on his right
hand, even
Asaph the son of Berachiah, the son of Shimea,
And their brethren the sons of Merari stood on the left
hand:
Ethan the son of Kishi, the son of Abdi, the son of Malluch,
On the left were their
kinsmen, the sons of Merari:
And he
slew an Egyptian, a man of great
stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian’s
hand was a
spear like a
weaver’s beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and
plucked the
spear out of the Egyptian’s
hand, and
slew him with his own
spear.
He also killed an Egyptian, a huge man five cubits tall. Although the Egyptian had a
spear like a
weaver’s beam in his
hand, Benaiah went against him with a club,
snatched the
spear from his
hand, and killed the Egyptian with his own
spear.
They were armed with bows, and could use both the right
hand and the left in
hurling stones and shooting arrows out of a bow, even of Saul’s brethren of Benjamin.
they were archers using both the right and left
hands to
sling stones and shoot arrows; and they were Saul’s
kinsmen from Benjamin):
And of the Gadites there separated themselves unto David into the hold to the wilderness men of might, and men of war fit for the battle, that could
handle shield and
buckler, whose faces were like the faces of lions, and were as swift as the roes upon the mountains;
Some Gadites defected to David at his
stronghold in the desert. They were mighty men of
valor, trained for battle, experts with the shield and
spear, whose faces were like the faces of lions and who were as swift as gazelles on the mountains:
And David went out to meet them, and answered and said unto them, If ye be come
peaceably unto me to help me, mine heart shall be
knit unto you: but if ye be come to
betray me to mine enemies, seeing there is no wrong in mine
hands, the God of our fathers look
thereon, and
rebuke it.
And David went out to meet them, saying, “If you have come to me in peace to help me, my heart will be united with you; but if you have come to
betray me to my enemies when my
hands are free of violence, may the God of our fathers see it and judge you.”
And when they came unto the threshingfloor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his
hand to hold the ark; for the oxen
stumbled.
When they came to the
threshing floor of Chidon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark, because the oxen had
stumbled.
And the anger of the LORD was
kindled against Uzza, and he
smote him, because he put his
hand to the ark: and there he died before God.
And the anger of the LORD burned against Uzzah, and He struck him down because he had put his hand on the ark. So he died there before God.
And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and
wilt thou deliver them into mine
hand? And the LORD said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine
hand.
So David inquired of God, “Should I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” “Go,” replied the LORD, “for I will deliver them into your hand.”
So they came up to
Baal-perazim; and David
smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine
hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place
Baal-perazim.
So David and his men went up to
Baal-perazim, where he defeated the Philistines and said, “Like a
bursting flood, God has
burst out against my enemies by my
hand.” So they called that place
Baal-perazim.
Then on that day David delivered first this
psalm to
thank the LORD into the
hand of
Asaph and his brethren.
On that day David first committed to
Asaph and his brothers this song of
thanksgiving to the LORD:
Now after this it came to pass, that David
smote the Philistines, and subdued them, and took
Gath and her towns out of the
hand of the Philistines.
Some time later, David defeated the Philistines, subdued them, and took
Gath and its villages from the
hand of the Philistines.
And the rest of the people he delivered unto the
hand of
Abishai his brother, and they set themselves in
array against the children of
Ammon.
And he placed the rest of the forces under the command of his brother
Abishai, who
arrayed them against the
Ammonites.
And yet again there was war at
Gath, where was a man of great
stature, whose fingers and toes were four and twenty, six on each
hand, and six on each foot: and he also was the son of the
giant.
And there was still another battle at
Gath, where there was a man of great
stature with six fingers on each
hand and six toes on each foot—twenty-four in all. He too was descended from Rapha,
These were born unto the
giant in
Gath; and they fell by the
hand of David, and by the
hand of his servants.
So these descendants of Rapha in
Gath fell at the
hands of David and his servants.
And David said unto
Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the
hand of the LORD; for very great are his
mercies: but let me not fall into the
hand of man.
David answered
Gad, “I am deeply distressed. Please, let me fall into the
hand of the LORD, for His
mercies are very great; but do not let me fall into the
hands of men.”
And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the LORD
beheld, and he
repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine
hand. And the angel of the LORD stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Then God sent an angel to destroy Jerusalem, but as the angel was doing so, the LORD saw it and relented from the
calamity, and He said to the angel who was destroying the people, “Enough! Withdraw your
hand now!” At that time the angel of the LORD was standing by the
threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the LORD stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his
hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in
sackcloth, fell upon their faces.
When David lifted up his eyes and saw the angel of the LORD standing between heaven and earth, with a drawn sword in his
hand stretched out over Jerusalem, David and the elders, clothed in
sackcloth, fell facedown.
And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have
sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine
hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father’s house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.
And David said to God, “Was it not I who gave the order to count the people? I am the one who has
sinned and acted wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done? O LORD my God, please let Your
hand fall upon me and my father’s house, but do not let this plague remain upon Your people.”
