And Israel
smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed
his land from
Arnon unto
Jabbok, even unto the children of
Ammon: for the border of the children of
Ammon was strong.
And Israel put him to the sword and took possession of
his land, from the
Arnon to the
Jabbok—but only up to the border of the
Ammonites, because it was fortified.
For
Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the
Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all
his land out of
his hand, even unto
Arnon.
Heshbon was the city of Sihon king of the
Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab and taken all
his land as far as the
Arnon.
Woe to thee, Moab! thou art undone, O people of
Chemosh: he hath given
his sons that escaped, and
his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the
Amorites.
Woe to you, O Moab! You are destroyed, O people of
Chemosh! He gave up
his sons as refugees, and
his daughters into captivity to Sihon king of the
Amorites.
And they turned and went up by the way of
Bashan: and
Og the king of
Bashan went out against them, he, and all
his people, to the battle at Edrei.
Then they turned and went up the road to
Bashan, and
Og king of
Bashan and
his whole army came out to meet them in battle at Edrei.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into thy hand, and all
his people, and
his land; and thou shalt do to him as thou
didst unto Sihon king of the
Amorites, which dwelt at
Heshbon.
But the LORD said to Moses, “Do not fear him, for I have delivered him into your hand, along with all
his people and
his land. Do to him as you did to Sihon king of the
Amorites, who lived in
Heshbon.”
So they
smote him, and
his sons, and all
his people, until there was none left him alive: and they possessed
his land.
So they struck down
Og, along with
his sons and
his whole army, until no
remnant was left. And they took possession of
his land.
He sent messengers therefore unto
Balaam the son of Beor to
Pethor, which is by the river of the land of the children of
his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they
abide over against me:
he sent messengers to
Balaam son of Beor at
Pethor, which is by the Euphrates in the land of
his people. “Behold, a people has come out of Egypt,” said Balak. “They cover the face of the land and have settled next to me.
And
Balaam answered and said unto the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me
his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do less or more.
But
Balaam replied to the servants of Balak, “If Balak were to give me
his house full of silver and gold, I could not do anything small or great to go beyond the command of the LORD my God.
And
Balaam rose up in the morning, and
saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.
And God’s anger was
kindled because he went: and the angel of the LORD stood in the way for an
adversary against him. Now he was riding upon
his ass, and
his two servants were with him.
Then God’s anger was
kindled because
Balaam was going along, and the angel of the LORD stood in the road to
oppose him.
Balaam was riding
his donkey, and
his two servants were with him.
And the
ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and
his sword drawn in
his hand: and the
ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and
Balaam smote the
ass, to turn her into the way.
When the
donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with a drawn sword in
his hand, she turned off the path and went into a field. So
Balaam beat her to return her to the path.
When the
donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she lay down under
Balaam, and he became
furious and beat her with
his staff.
Then the LORD opened the eyes of
Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and
his sword drawn in
his hand: and he bowed down
his head, and fell flat on
his face.
Then the LORD opened
Balaam’s eyes, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with a drawn sword in
his hand. And
Balaam bowed low and fell facedown.
And when Balak heard that
Balaam was come, he went out to meet him unto a city of Moab, which is in the border of
Arnon, which is in the utmost coast.
When Balak heard that
Balaam was coming, he went out to meet him at the
Moabite city on the
Arnon border, at the edge of
his territory.
And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Moab.
So he returned to Balak, who was standing there beside his burnt offering, with all the princes of Moab.
And he took up
his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from
Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come,
curse me Jacob, and come,
defy Israel.
And
Balaam lifted up an
oracle, saying: “Balak brought me from
Aram, the king of Moab from the mountains of the east. ‘Come,’ he said, ‘put a
curse on Jacob for me; come and
denounce Israel!’
Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!
Who can count the dust of Jacob or number even a fourth of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous; let my end be like theirs!”
And the LORD met
Balaam, and put a word in
his mouth, and said, Go again unto Balak, and say thus.
And the LORD met with
Balaam and put a message in
his mouth, saying, “Return to Balak and speak what I tell you.”
And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath the LORD spoken?
So he returned to Balak, who was standing there by his burnt offering with the princes of Moab. “What did the LORD say?” Balak asked.
And he took up
his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear;
hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor:
Then
Balaam lifted up an
oracle, saying: “Arise, O Balak, and
listen; give ear to me, O son of Zippor.
God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should
repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
God is not a man, that He should lie, or a son of man, that He should change
His mind. Does He speak and not act? Does He promise and not
fulfill?
He hath not
beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen
perverseness in Israel: the LORD
his God is with him, and the
shout of a king is among them.
He considers no
disaster for Jacob; He sees no trouble for Israel. The LORD their God is with them, and the
shout of the King is among them.
And when
Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to
bless Israel, he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set
his face toward the wilderness.
And when
Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to
bless Israel, he did not resort to
sorcery as on previous occasions, but he turned
his face toward the wilderness.
And
Balaam lifted up
his eyes, and he saw Israel
abiding in
his tents according to their tribes; and the spirit of God came upon him.
When
Balaam looked up and saw Israel
encamped tribe by tribe, the Spirit of God came upon him,
And he took up
his parable, and said,
Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said:
and he lifted up an
oracle, saying: “This is the prophecy of
Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of a man whose eyes are open,
He hath said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the
Almighty, falling into a
trance, but having
his eyes open:
the prophecy of one who hears the words of God, who sees a vision from the
Almighty, who bows down with eyes wide open:
He shall pour the water out of
his buckets, and
his seed shall be in many waters, and
his king shall be higher than
Agag, and
his kingdom shall be
exalted.
Water will flow from
his buckets, and
his seed will have abundant water.
His king will be greater than
Agag, and
his kingdom will be
exalted.
God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an
unicorn: he shall eat up the nations
his enemies, and shall break their bones, and
pierce them through with
his arrows.
God brought him out of Egypt with strength like a wild ox, to
devour hostile nations and
crush their bones, to
pierce them with arrows.
And Balak’s anger was
kindled against
Balaam, and he
smote his hands together: and Balak said unto
Balaam, I called thee to
curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast altogether blessed them these three times.
Then Balak’s anger burned against
Balaam, and he struck
his hands together and said to
Balaam, “I summoned you to
curse my enemies, but behold, you have
persisted in blessing them these three times.
If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of the LORD, to do either good or bad of mine own mind; but what the LORD saith, that will I speak?
that even if Balak were to give me
his house full of silver and gold, I could not do anything of my own
accord, good or bad, to go beyond the command of the LORD? I will speak whatever the LORD says.
And he took up
his parable, and said,
Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said:
Then
Balaam lifted up an
oracle, saying, “This is the prophecy of
Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of a man whose eyes are open,
He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the
Almighty, falling into a
trance, but having
his eyes open:
the prophecy of one who hears the words of God, who has knowledge from the Most High, who sees a vision from the
Almighty, who bows down with eyes wide open:
And
Edom shall be a possession,
Seir also shall be a possession for
his enemies; and Israel shall do
valiantly.
Edom will become a possession, as will
Seir,
his enemy; but Israel will perform with
valor.
And when he looked on Amalek, he took up his parable, and said, Amalek was the first of the nations; but his latter end shall be that he perish for ever.
Then
Balaam saw Amalek and lifted up an
oracle, saying: “Amalek was first among the nations, but
his end is destruction.”
And he looked on the
Kenites, and took up
his parable, and said, Strong is thy dwellingplace, and thou puttest thy nest in a rock.
Next he saw the
Kenites and lifted up an
oracle, saying: “Your dwelling place is secure, and your nest is set in a
cliff.
And he took up
his parable, and said,
Alas, who shall live when God doeth this!
Once more
Balaam lifted up an
oracle, saying: “
Ah, who can live unless God has ordained it?
And
Balaam rose up, and went and returned to
his place: and Balak also went
his way.
Then
Balaam arose and returned to
his homeland, and Balak also went on
his way.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and
hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Take all the leaders of the people and
execute them in broad
daylight before the LORD, so that
His fierce anger may turn away from Israel.”
And Moses said unto the judges of Israel,
Slay ye every one
his men that were joined unto
Baal-peor.
So Moses told the judges of Israel, “Each of you must kill all of
his men who have joined in worshiping
Baal of Peor.”
And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto
his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were
weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
Just then an
Israelite man brought to
his family a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses and the whole congregation of Israel while they were
weeping at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
And when
Phinehas, the son of
Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a
javelin in
his hand;
On seeing this,
Phinehas son of
Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, got up from the assembly, took a
spear in
his hand,
And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her
belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.
followed the
Israelite into
his tent, and drove the
spear through both of them—through the
Israelite and on through the
belly of the woman. So the plague against the Israelites was
halted,
And he shall have it, and
his seed after him, even the covenant of an
everlasting priesthood; because he was
zealous for
his God, and made an
atonement for the children of Israel.
It will be a covenant of permanent priesthood for him and
his descendants, because he was
zealous for
his God and made
atonement for the Israelites.”
And Zelophehad the son of Hepher had no sons, but daughters: and the names of the daughters of Zelophehad were Mahlah, and
Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
Now Zelophehad son of Hepher had no sons but only daughters. The names of
his daughters were Mahlah,
Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
To many thou shalt give the more inheritance, and to few thou shalt give the less inheritance: to every one shall his inheritance be given according to those that were numbered of him.
Increase the inheritance for a large tribe and decrease it for a small one; each tribe is to receive its inheritance according to the number of those registered.
Then came the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of
Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of
Manasseh, of the families of
Manasseh the son of Joseph: and these are the names of
his daughters; Mahlah,
Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah.
Now the daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, the son of
Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of
Manasseh, belonged to the clans of
Manasseh son of Joseph. These were the names of
his daughters: Mahlah,
Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. They approached
Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of them that gathered themselves together against the LORD in the company of
Korah; but died in
his own sin, and had no sons.
“Our father died in the wilderness, but he was not among the followers of
Korah who gathered together against the LORD. Instead, he died because of
his own sin, and he had no sons.
Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he hath no son? Give unto us therefore a possession among the brethren of our father.
Why should the name of our father disappear from his clan because he had no sons? Give us property among our father’s brothers.”
And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a man die, and have no son, then ye shall cause his inheritance to pass unto his daughter.
Furthermore, you shall say to the Israelites, ‘If a man dies and leaves no son, you are to transfer
his inheritance to
his daughter.
And if he have no daughter, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his brethren.
If he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers.
And if he have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his father’s brethren.
If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father’s brothers.
And if
his father have no brethren, then ye shall give
his inheritance unto
his kinsman that is next to him of
his family, and he shall possess it: and it shall be unto the children of Israel a statute of judgment, as the LORD commanded Moses.
And if
his father has no brothers, give
his inheritance to the next of
kin from
his clan, that he may take possession of it. This is to be a
statutory ordinance for the Israelites, as the LORD has commanded Moses.’”
And he shall stand before
Eleazar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the judgment of
Urim before the LORD: at
his word shall they go out, and at
his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.
He shall stand before
Eleazar the priest, who will seek counsel for him before the LORD by the judgment of the
Urim. At
his command, he and all the Israelites with him—the entire congregation—will go out and come in.”
And he laid his hands upon him, and gave him a charge, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses.
and laid
his hands on him and commissioned him, as the LORD had
instructed through Moses.
This is the burnt offering of every sabbath, beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.
This is the burnt offering for every Sabbath, in addition to the regular burnt offering and its drink offering.
And one
kid of the goats for a sin offering unto the LORD shall be offered, beside the continual burnt offering, and
his drink offering.
In addition to the regular burnt offering with its drink offering, one male goat is to be presented to the LORD as a sin offering.
After this manner ye shall offer daily, throughout the seven days, the meat of the sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD: it shall be offered beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.
Offer the same food each day for seven days as an offering made by fire, a pleasing
aroma to the LORD. It is to be offered with its drink offering and the regular burnt offering.
Ye shall offer them beside the continual burnt offering, and
his meat offering, (they shall be unto you without
blemish) and their drink offerings.
Offer them with their drink offerings in addition to the regular burnt offering and its grain offering. The animals must be
unblemished.
Beside the burnt offering of the month, and his meat offering, and the daily burnt offering, and his meat offering, and their drink offerings, according unto their manner, for a sweet savour, a sacrifice made by fire unto the LORD.
These are in addition to the monthly and daily burnt offerings with their prescribed grain offerings and drink offerings. They are a pleasing
aroma, an offering made by fire to the LORD.

kid of the goats for a sin offering; beside the continual burnt offering,
his meat offering, and
his drink offering.
Include one male goat as a sin offering, in addition to the regular burnt offering with its grain offering and drink offering.

If a man
vow a
vow unto the LORD, or
swear an oath to bind
his soul with a bond; he shall not break
his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of
his mouth.
If a man makes a
vow to the LORD or swears an oath to
obligate himself by a
pledge, he must not break
his word; he must do everything he has promised.
And her father hear her
vow, and her bond
wherewith she hath bound her soul, and her father shall hold
his peace at her: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond
wherewith she hath bound her soul shall stand.
and her father hears about her
vow or
pledge but says nothing to her, then all the vows or pledges by which she has bound herself shall stand.
And her husband heard it, and held
his peace at her in the day that he heard it: then her vows shall stand, and her bonds
wherewith she bound her soul shall stand.
and her husband hears of it but says nothing to her on that day, then the vows or pledges by which she has bound herself shall stand.
And her husband heard it, and held
his peace at her, and disallowed her not: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond
wherewith she bound her soul shall stand.
and her husband hears of it but says nothing to her and does not
prohibit her, then all the vows or pledges by which she has bound herself shall stand.
But if her husband altogether hold his peace at her from day to day; then he establisheth all her vows, or all her bonds, which are upon her: he confirmeth them, because he held his peace at her in the day that he heard them.
But if her husband says nothing to her from day to day, then he confirms all the vows and pledges that bind her. He has confirmed them, because he said nothing to her on the day he heard about them.
These are the statutes, which the LORD commanded Moses, between a man and his wife, between the father and his daughter, being yet in her youth in her father’s house.
These are the statutes that the LORD commanded Moses concerning the relationship between a man and his wife, and between a father and a young daughter still in his home.
And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of every tribe, them and
Phinehas the son of
Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the
trumpets to blow in
his hand.
And Moses sent the thousand from each tribe into battle, along with
Phinehas son of
Eleazar the priest, who took with him the vessels of the sanctuary and the
trumpets for signaling.
And the LORD’S anger was
kindled against Israel, and he made them
wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed.
The anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He made them
wander in the wilderness forty years, until the whole generation who had done evil in
His sight was gone.
We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance.
We will not return to our homes until every
Israelite has taken possession of
his inheritance.
And will go all of you armed over Jordan before the LORD, until he hath driven out his enemies from before him,
and if every one of your armed men crosses the Jordan before the LORD, until He has driven His enemies out before Him,
And Nobah went and took Kenath, and the villages thereof, and called it Nobah, after his own name.
And Nobah went and captured Kenath and its villages and called it Nobah, after his own name.
And ye shall divide the land by lot for an inheritance among your families: and to the more ye shall give the more inheritance, and to the fewer ye shall give the less inheritance: every man’s inheritance shall be in the place where
his lot falleth; according to the tribes of your fathers ye shall
inherit.
And you are to divide the land by lot according to your clans. Give a larger inheritance to a larger clan and a smaller inheritance to a smaller one. Whatever falls to each one by lot will be his. You will receive an inheritance according to the tribes of your fathers.
And the cities which ye shall give shall be of the possession of the children of Israel: from them that have many ye shall give many; but from them that have few ye shall give few: every one shall give of his cities unto the Levites according to his inheritance which he inheriteth.
The cities that you
apportion from the territory of the Israelites should be given to the Levites in proportion to the inheritance of each tribe: more from a larger tribe and less from a smaller one.”
And if he
smite him with throwing a stone,
wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
Or if
anyone has in
his hand a stone of deadly size, and he strikes and kills another, he is a murderer; the murderer must surely be put to death.
Or if he
smite him with an hand weapon of wood,
wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
If
anyone has in
his hand a deadly object of wood, and he strikes and kills another, he is a murderer; the murderer must surely be put to death.
Or in
enmity smite him with
his hand, that he die: he that
smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the
revenger of blood shall
slay the murderer, when he meeteth him.
or if in hostility he strikes him with
his hand and he dies, the one who struck him must surely be put to death; he is a murderer. When the
avenger of blood finds the murderer, he is to kill him.
Or with any stone,
wherewith a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, that he die, and was not
his enemy, neither sought
his harm:
or without looking drops a heavy stone that kills him, but he was not an enemy and did not intend to
harm him,
And the congregation shall deliver the
slayer out of the hand of the
revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of
his refuge,
whither he was fled: and he shall
abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was
anointed with the holy oil.
The assembly is to protect the
manslayer from the hand of the
avenger of blood. Then the assembly will return him to the city of refuge to which he fled, and he must live there until the death of the high priest, who was
anointed with the holy oil.
But if the
slayer shall at any time come without the border of the city of
his refuge,
whither he was fled;
But if the
manslayer ever goes outside the limits of the city of refuge to which he fled
And the
revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of
his refuge, and the
revenger of blood kill the
slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood:
and the
avenger of blood finds him outside of
his city of refuge and kills him, then the
avenger will not be guilty of
bloodshed Because he should have remained in the city of
his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the
slayer shall return into the land of
his possession.
because the
manslayer must remain in
his city of refuge until the death of the high priest. Only after the death of the high priest may he return to the land he owns.
And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.
Nor should you accept a
ransom for the person who flees to a city of refuge and allow him to return and live on
his own land before the death of the high priest.
And they said, The LORD commanded my lord to give the land for an inheritance by lot to the children of Israel: and my lord was commanded by the LORD to give the inheritance of Zelophehad our brother unto his daughters.
saying, “When the LORD commanded my lord to give the land as an inheritance to the Israelites by lot, He also commanded him to give the inheritance of our brother Zelophehad to his daughters.
So shall not the inheritance of the children of Israel remove from tribe to tribe: for every one of the children of Israel shall keep himself to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.
No inheritance in Israel may be transferred from tribe to tribe, because each of the Israelites is to retain the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.
And every daughter, that possesseth an inheritance in any tribe of the children of Israel, shall be wife unto one of the family of the tribe of her father, that the children of Israel may enjoy every man the inheritance of his fathers.
Every daughter who possesses an inheritance from any
Israelite tribe must marry within a clan of the tribe of her father, so that every
Israelite will possess the inheritance of
his fathers.
Neither shall the inheritance remove from one tribe to another tribe; but every one of the tribes of the children of Israel shall keep himself to his own inheritance.
No inheritance may be transferred from one tribe to another, for each tribe of Israel must retain its inheritance.”
And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him.
At that time I charged your judges: “Hear the disputes between your brothers, and judge fairly between a man and his brother or a foreign resident.
And in the wilderness, where thou hast seen how that the LORD thy God bare thee, as a man
doth bear
his son, in all the way that ye went, until ye came into this place.
and in the wilderness, where the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, all the way by which you traveled until you reached this place.”
Save
Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him will I give the land that he hath
trodden upon, and to
his children, because he hath wholly followed the LORD.
except
Caleb son of Jephunneh. He will see it, and I will give him and
his descendants the land on which he has set foot, because he followed the LORD wholeheartedly.”
Then ye answered and said unto me, We have
sinned against the LORD, we will go up and fight, according to all that the LORD our God commanded us. And when ye had
girded on every man
his weapons of war, ye were ready to go up into the hill.
“We have
sinned against the LORD,” you replied. “We will go up and fight, as the LORD our God has commanded us.” Then each of you put on
his weapons of war, thinking it easy to go up into the hill country.
Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a
footbreadth; because I have given mount
Seir unto
Esau for a possession.
Do not
provoke them, for I will not give you any of their land, not even a
footprint, because I have given Mount
Seir to
Esau as
his possession.
The Horims also dwelt in
Seir beforetime; but the children of
Esau succeeded them, when they had destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their
stead; as Israel did unto the land of
his possession, which the LORD gave unto them.
The Horites used to live in

Arnon Valley. See, I have delivered into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of
